Confirmed LFC team vs. Udinese: Great news as Italians spring line-up shock...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has made a strong statement of intent by naming a very strong side for tonight's Europa League clash with Udinese.

Based on the players selected, it seems unlikely that Rodgers will go with a 352; instead, it looks like the familiar 433 formation will be employed.

After sitting out the last few games, both Sahin and Suso come back into the side, and Luis Suarez starts the game too, before serving a one game suspension this weekend.

FULL TEAM: Reina, Johnson, Enrique, Carragher (c), Skrtel, Henderson, Sahin, Allen, Suso, Downing, Suarez.

SUBS: Jones, Cole, Coates, Sterling, Shelvey, Assaidi, Wisdom.

In what has to go down as a major surprise, Udinese's top scorer Antonio Di Natale doesn't make the starting line-up, which should, theoretically, work in Liverpool's favour.

UDINESE TEAM: Padelli, Danilo, Faraoni, Pasquale, Armero, Heurtaux, Badu, Pereyra, Pinzi, Ranégie, Fabbrini.

  1. Henderson picked over Assaidi and Shelvey (holds head in hands).

9 times out of 10 Carragher circa 2012 + Henderson = Liverpool lose, with minimum of 2 goals conceded.

  2. Should be good enough team, but Henderson and Downing dont deserve to be in the team and Assaidi and Shelvey should be taking there place.

  3. Personally I dont care much about this competition, if we go through good, if not I wont lose my sleep, I dont think a club like lfc deserves to play in EL, yes we are not good enough to play in CL but considering the history the tradition we have EL is too small for us plus playing on tuesday hurts players to death picking up injuries etc, so not looking forward to this one.

Its heartbreaking as well as humiliating for LFC to be plying out trade in this charitable cup for the clubs who arent good enough for the elite.Under Rafa we were always competing in Champions league semi final and finals and due to this Rafa created enormous wealth for the club.Since Rafa has been shown the door i honestly have never felt less excited about watching LFC.I rmember all the great nights of the past, and the only consolation is the people who have destroyed LFC by getting rid of Rafa and trusting LFC with clowns is you will never destroy my memories of LFC up until Rafa was sacked.

  6. Annoying to see Downing and Henderson in the line up yet again. Would much rather prefer Shelvy and Assaidi. I'm no expert though so what do I know, right. It just seems like Downing and Henderson have had their chances and it's time to give some other players a chance. Oh well, I still think we can win.

  7. Henderson in the team? Surely Shelvey or Cole would have had at least a fifty-fifty chance of scoring an open goal? Sunderland must still be laughing till the tears roll down their legs. What on earth was KD thinking to buy Henderson? How on earth could a man whose whole life revolves around football pay 18 mill for a total and complete carthorse? Strange the way some players at LFC are given next to no chance at all ( e.g. Jovanovic ) while others - and Henderson is a case in point - are given hundreds. But it's been that way for a long time now. Rank favouritism, presumably.

  8. i personally think that we don't have the squad to fight on two fronts this season. We need to build a more competitive team starting this January. Liverpool is good to remain ambitious but as a friend of reality i have to say that the Europa League is a complete waste of time this year. Let's instead work on bringing in the right people and finishing in a top four position so that we can avoid the Europa competition all together. We all know that the real bragging rights and real tv money come from champions league football.

  9. Hendo just scored :)

  10. What happens if we do get back in CL? A squad with zero European experience? Any European football is good for the club from top to bottom! From the stewards that have to deal with foreign supporters to the logistics of flying the squad and back room staff and gear out, all gears the club back for a CL return.

  11. 05 and 06 were but do you really count 07 08 09 and 10 as GLORY DAYS? When was finishing second and losing finals classed as glory to Liverpool????????

  12. Ref got quite a few calls wrong. Poor. The Italians do what they can do best. That's falling over and whinge.

Towards what weve achieved since Rafa left yes i would class losing champions league finals and finishing second in the prem on 86 pts the highest ever never to win it as successful.Especially considering when we finished second we had 1 recognisable striker while the winners man utd had Tevez Rooney Ronaldo and Berbatov to pick from so in a sense it was a moral victory for Rafa.No wonder John Henry refused to shake Dalglishs and Carraghers hands in the FA cup final,I applaud you John Henry for showing great courage in the face of these 2 selfish self centred parasites.

  14. 'moral victory'

    pfffft

    nauseating and cringeworthy waffle

  15. Wow, his influence knows no limits, Ferguson doesn't even want us doing well in Europa League(!)

  16. I know. Worst news possible for LFC fans. Now he's there for ever.

  17. :)

    Nearly a second for him!

  18. Successful but not glory! Think most Liverpool fans felt the Rafa bubble burst after Lyon away 09/10 and that late equaliser I know it did for me. Games that we would hold onto for a win we were drawing and games we would draw we were losing in the league and Europe. Managers don't get chances to put things right any more he spent badly in that summer and he paid for it.

  19. Don't think it's down to Ferguson. The ref has been poor for both sides to be honest. Plenty of very soft yellow cards.

  20. Circa since he's been posting on here 10 out of 10 times Steyg is posting negative rubbish.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah, good old Rafa. Took over a team that had qualified for the CL but left a team which hadn't. Now, where exactly did it start that we didn't qualify for the CL?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Bloody hell, talk about the last kick of the game, Di Natale.

Udinese played like a side that had nothing to play for. Relatively easy for us. Well done lads.

    ReplyDelete
  23. A win, clean sheet + a goal for Hendo

    ReplyDelete
  24. OriginalChan, Steyg won't be able to take in all those positive things you are posting.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, they fell over quite a bit and as soon as they felt that they might not get back into the game they started getting dirty, little kicks here and there and everywhere. Where I live Italians don't have the best of reputations when it comes to football and I never quite agreed, but today's Udinese side confirmed all the stereotypes.

  26. The teams you play in the Europa League are the teams you need to beat in the 2 qualifying rounds to get into the CL seeing that we are mainly aiming for fourth.

  27. Downing's corner that led to Henderson's goal you must be gutted!:)

Then RH KD and BR all come in and between them buy 25 players costing over £200m and we still rely on what was left by Rafa with the exception of Suarez.Reina Agger Skertle Johson Lucas Suso Sterling Wisdom Shelvey all brought in by Rafa, all left by Rafa all who we rely on now as our best players, imagine if Rafa had been given over £200m to add to these players where we would of been, yes imagine.plus add the fact KD gave Tom Ince away for free who Rafa brough tin because Dalglish cant spot potential its disgusting whats happened since Rafa left and people still trying to justify whats happened since rafa left, how can rafa be blamed when 25 players have been brought in since he left and the only decent ones are what he left and Suarez

    ReplyDelete
  29. Great prediction by original chan! Got another for sunday, i,ll stick a few quid on it, lol. Nrarly blew it at the end but well done lads :)

  30. and we are mid-table mediocrity with a squad that has a lot of players from Rafa. That sure reflects well on Rafa(!)

  31. RAFASdaysWEREtheGLORYdays8:28 pm, December 06, 2012

Reina under Rafa won 3 golden gloves,Agger and Skertle best central defender partnership in England, lucas hailed as our saviour by the morons who used to slate him.Suso Shelvey Wisdom Sterling the future of the club.Lastly Tom Ince well the less said about Tom Ince the better.

    ReplyDelete
  32. What has golden gloves, golden fleece, golden touch, golden shower, etc, got to do with whats going on now? Leave them back in the museum, where they belong. You go on about how the only 'decent' options in the squad are mostly players brought in by Benitez but we are in a mid-table position with these 'decent' players. These 'decent' players of Benitez have been poor in the last few seasons.

  33. LFC was not founded in 2005 !

The glory days were long before Rafa and your description of KD as a self centred parasite is quite frankly a disgrace.

You obviously have no idea of the history of our club and what KD did for it..

I'll put it down to you been young.. if your not then I 'm not sure what I would have to say to you would get past the word filter on this site.

If you love Rafa so much mate buy yourself a Chelsea jersey and sling your hook down south.. god knows he could do with some support down there..

I appreciate everything Rafa done for LFC but he's gone.. he's not coming back and I wish fanatics like you would give it a rest already !!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Rafa has gone time to move on.
Rodgers has come in and is taking Liverpool forward some can't see it because the results aren't coming but the football is there to see but unfortunately not the goals and wins to go with it.

  35. line up was great- hendo, downing and carra are perfect for not so important competition, with couple of those(like suso) that need games and a couple that can play both europa and pl. assaidi should have got the chance and say yesil or morgan, but they will(hopefully) in future when we will have to rest Suarez. good night, overall.
imagine chelsea in the next round, that would be great!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love kenny but he made some serious balls ups in the transfer market, but anyone who can call can him or carra parasites either needs a lobotomy or is obviously a troll, these guys will always be red legends!

    ReplyDelete
  37. let it go, please... loved rafa, but he is girlfriend from the past(great one) that is now fcuking with that guy with more money and when you were together told you she is not into that kind of stuff and that she is too romantic for him...

  38. Why are my comments suddenly needing approval? Because i took the piss out of sam alladyce, lol, jesus, lighten up!

  39. HENDERSON GETS US THROUGH! HES THE BEST LIVERPOOL PLAYER ALIVE!!!!....until sunday.
Downing did ok today, defensively anyway because he still doesnt really offer anything going forward.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Good to have gotten this over and done with. Well done to the lads, regardless of the 'importance' of the competition. Now, if we can keep a clean sheet this weekend with Henderson or Downing scoring, it'll be more progress!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well put anteater.

We finished 5th in 04/05 behind Everton in Rafa's first season so we did not qualify for the CL but we were given grace for winning the competition.

09/10 which was Rafa's last season we finished 7th and we were knocked out in the group stages of the CL.

Funny how you can win the CL but are unable to qualify for it as per 04/05?

    ReplyDelete
  42. i dont know why the manager is not playing Assaidi. What a talented player he is.Even better than Suso. They cant play their best players all the time

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well, UEFA have changed the rules since, otherwise Chelsea wouldn't have been in the competition this year. Not that it would have made much of a difference for them. Good match that, Chelsea and Rafa.

Yes your right i have no idea of the history of this club, yes well done well spotted correct.Id just like to say one of my greatest moments was in 1976 going to molyneaux watching Liverpool clinch the first division with Toshack and Keegan and Ray Kennedy but I have no idea of the history of the club. This was before Dalglish signed for lfc to replace Keegan.

  45. Haha. I think you need to add the term 'golden shower' to your filter system, JK!
