Good news? Prem rivals to bid for 'terrific' £20m LFC star. Let him go...?

Fulham are reportedly preparing a January offer for Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson.

In recent weeks, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has played Jordan Henderson regularly in his favoured central midfield position, and according to Goal, the player's decent performances have attracted the attention of Martin Jol, who is ready to 'test Liverpool's resolve' with a January bid:

"Fulham are preparing to make another move to sign Jordan Henderson in January.

"Fulham were offered Henderson in part-exchange for Clint Dempsey during the summer but the England international rejected the move and decided to fight for his place at Anfield"

Earlier this week, Liverpool apologised to Fulham for tapping up Dempsey, and that appears to have paved the way for the clubs to do business again.

Earlier this week, Rodgers hailed Henderson's 'terrific' recent performances, and highlighted the 'importances he has within the group':

“He’s understanding what his role is, and the importance that he has within the group, and he’s done very well. He works very, very hard at his game and he’s been coming on in games and starting games for us and doing very well"

Henderson - who cost Liverpool a ludicrous £20m - has played well recently, but he is eminently expendable, and if Fulham put in a half-decent bid then Liverpool should take it. The club will inevitably make a loss, but where Kenny Dalglish's signings are concerned, that's just something FSG and Rodgers will have to accept.

With Lucas, Gerrard and Allen around, I can't see how Henderson will ever be a consistent first-choice for Liverpool, and at his age, it would be better for his career if he was playing regular first-team football.

  1. Well i think he should stay and believe not only will he be a valuable contributor but if the time comes in coming seasons and he wants a move it will probably be a lot more money than Fulham will offer.
Also Gerrards time is nearly up and i do not see Cole or Sahin being around come next season.

  2. Awesome news, hope it materialises. Just as it had been clear he was no more than Sunderland standard before Dalglish and Comolli splashed ridiculous amounts of cash on him, it is clear now the club will benefit from getting rid of him.

  3. If the offer is about 15 million or more i think it's better for the club to sell him but if the offer is less than 15 million it's better to keep him cause he is still 21 years old and he can improve more under Brandon Rodgers!! YNWA

  4. I dont think its worth it, he is just starting to play well, and we wouldnt get a decent offer for him. There is no harm in keeping him until the summer, see how he performs for the rest of the season. If they offered something close to what we paid, then it would be worth it, but I dont think that would happen. Also why should we sell to Fulham after they gave us such a ball ache over Dempsey. How about we file a complaint about them tapping up Henderson!

  5. Have a feeling it won't happen. Rodgers appears to actually like Henderson compared to Downing & Carroll so won't be surprised if he wants to keep him as a 'handyman'. Expensive one, no doubt.

  6. Henderson offers different option in midfield compared to other midfielders we have, his workrate, athleticism and energy in midfield are second to none and has started contributing to the buildup play and attack as well. It was a bad decision to buy him for 16m but it would be worse decision to sell him for a big loss. But if anyone can match the fee or even close to we paid for him then i wouldn't mind selling him.

  7. Give the kid another 6 months and see where he's at. There seems to be some form of solidity to his game now. Maybe the psycho hired can build some confidence in him????

  8. Well even if thats true they wont pay 20m for him like stupid dalglish or comolli did, so to sell him on cheap wont help us, I say keep him for these europa games and fa cup he might do well there

  9. If its less than £10M then definitely not. Personally I'd like to keep him regardless, hes still young, has shown clear improvement, has a lot more confidence & is willing to fight for his Lfc future which is the attitude you need to look for in up and coming players. Contrast to Downing who has wilted away without a fight. We do have a lot of options now, but looking to the future who do we have-Lucas, Allen, Suso, Shelvey. Definitely a place for him in the squad.

  10. With his current improvement, Sahin being a loan player, Gerrard's powers waning, I can see why Rodgers may well keep him. But if Rodgers does need to raise funds before he can buy, than considering the numbers we have in for the CM positions in front of the defence for the short term and the need to bring in a wide player/forward/attacking midfielder, wouldn't surprise me to see Hendo sacrificed for the short term needs of the team. Could well come down to priorities as well as the balance between long term and short term, as whether we keep him or not. We'd do well to get £10m for him. He has just got to keep on showing improvement, to stake a claim for a long term future at the club and so far, he is going in the right direction.

  11. We need a figure before committing on whether to sell him. He cost us £16m, so 14m-15m yes, £10m no.

i've often wondered what he brings to thge team, particularly now Allen can do that link up role better. But if he is now understanding his role better and can start making forward runs more often, as he has the last few games, then let him stay anmd develop. We've spent that maney already, so let's see what they're talking about as a fee. Bet it's £8-10m and they're playing us for fools. If not, then he certainly isn't indespensible

  12. I Totally agree, and what is the "right price" in your opinion, if we do need to sell him?

  13. He's young and the England U-21 captain so as long as they're prepared to pay ridiculous money for him, yes. They have no one left to offer to us so straight cash will do. Anything starting from 10 million would do me fine.

  14. Why would anyone say he cost us £20m?
Fans of other clubs will to run the kid down but if you read between the lines of DC's comments it was up to £16m maximum and far more likely £14m.
Now that's still a few million overpriced but not as bad as paying double what he's worth like some would have you believe.

Now maybe DC was spronging dung and the official accounts will reveal it was over £16m??
but until it comes out as fact, I wish people would stop this talk of 18-20m.

  15. There most likely won't be any big clubs after him. I don't see clubs like Fulham splashing big on a player like him, especially in times like these and also if his wages are high for medium/small clubs. You got a club like Arsenal who can't offload Bendtner permanently as probably because there isn't a club that is willing to spend big money on his transfer AND wages at the same time. Which was maybe the initial case with the Carroll-West Ham ordeal as to why it was dragged out for a month or so, though just guesstimating. So I think a club like Fulham will probably go upto £10m max. They haven't spent more than £10m on a player for a good few seasons (Ruiz was apparently £10m). I think last one was Johnson and that was in summer of 2008. They have been rather frugal for a while now. Maybe they will use some of the Dembele-Dempsey money but generally, at the moment, I just don't think there is enough money going around the small/medium clubs to be hopeful about getting more than £10m for Henderson.

  16. So Henderson for Huntelaar- not bad... You seem to know a thing or two about our club and football in general- how much did he cost us in the first place? I see some posters saying 14-16 instead of those 20 I heard about so far- what's the truth?

  17. I don't know, for sure, and I'd be guessing. Can't see it being more than £16m. Maybe rising to more in the future depending on success, which seems to be norm for buying young players and maybe where the talk of £20m has risen from.

  18. Well...after last season and the first few games this season, I was for unloading him at a garage sale if we had to. Lately though he has been coming on strong and playing well even if he looks like a lumbering clod doing it. And he has the added benefit of loving the very idea of Liverpool football and wants to truly wear red...and his total dedication to it is something that is hard to deny. That being said 20M quid is a lot of money and perhaps could be used to get that second high quality striker that we desparately need...Cavani, Llorente...Mario Gomez.

  19. When i watch interviews,JORDAN HENDERSON strikes me as a person that gets swallowed up by more powerful voices and bigger characters at the club. That shy timid person afraid to express himself is what i've seen on the field for most of his playing time.I'm not saying you've got to be a loud mouth to become a top player, but you need to believe in yourself and feel you belong in your surroundings.
BR needs to install some confidence in him because i think he has the tools to contribute to future success (from the bench mostly). His recent performances have improved and the high energy impact he made against WEST HAM is what he's capable of doing on regular basis.I hope he uses LUCAS as the shining light of inspiration on how things can change for the better.
Saying that,if a decent offer was put in front of us and we have a small amount to spend when the window opens anything over 12m (which in my opinion is very unlikely to be tabled) should be accepted.

  23. Well now I am more convinced that it was 14-16 and I want to believe that so you did help...

  24. I seriously don't think Fulham will offer anything more than 8 mil pounds for JH. We are destined to lose big on those Brit players bought by KD and Comolli. Whether or not, this transaction with have no impact at all, other than for BR to trim the wage bill.

On a side not, just saw an article at soccernet with Comolli defending LFC's transfer decisions during his reign as DOF. It makes me utterly sick after reading it, especially on his explanation regarding the deal for AC. Just because he's young and LFC is not traditionally a selling club does not give this man the right to offer 35 mil pounds for an unproven youngster that scored only 14 top flight goals in a short career, my two cents. Chelsea offered 50 mil pounds for Torres were legitimate because of the positive impact and goals produced by him. 35 mil pounds for a youngster that 'may come good' and 'player for the future' is a completely stupid idea that will send freaky shivers down the spines of Mansour or Abramovich. Or anyone here cares to cast his/her expertise on this complex financial term, 'net spending'?
