Good news? BR to make £6m offer for attacker who was 'proud' at LFC link...

Last week, Sporting Lisbon star Jeffrén Suarez distanced himself from comments made by his alleged Agent over the possibility of a January move to Liverpool. The attacking midfielder didn't specifically rule out a move, but claimed that Jorge Llagostera - the man who made the comments - was not his representative. Despite this pronouncement, speculation continues to rise, and Jeffren is once again being linked with a move to Anfield.

According to a report today in respected Portuguese newspaper Jornal Record:

"Liverpool are willing to offer £6m for Jeffrén. The Reds are strongly interested in acquiring the player, initially on loan until end of the season with an option to purchase"

Last week's comments from Jorge Llagostera were preceded by reports in several Portuguese newspapers, and responding to his comments on Twitter, Jeffren barked:

"Given the media statements produced by Jorge Llagostera, I want to clarify that this man is not my representative, so these statements have no value"

Jeffren probably doesn't want to appear to be seeking a move, hence his comments on Twitter.

Liverpool tried to sign Jeffrén in 2011, and the 24-year old confirmed the club's interest in an interview with radio station Cadena Ser. He said:

"It makes me proud that teams like Liverpool are interested in me. We’ll see what happens."

Jeffrén ended up signing a 5-year deal with Sporting Lisbon, and his contract contains a €30 million buy-out clause, as well as a €12m buy-back clause for Barcelona.

Jeffren is the type of player who will fit into Brendan Rodgers' 433 formation, but his creative stats are clearly not good enough:

* 1 goal/no assists in 8 appearances this season.
* 5 goals/1 assist in 28 appearances overall for Lisbon.

  4. We are out to get loan players really. We can not even put a best 11 on the pitch .Other teams have backup in every position. I dont blame Rodgers its FSG they did not spend 100M with kenny they sold torres for 50m . Ian ayre is saying who is value or not and not signing. We should be buying world class players not english bargins or loan deals how diffrent is this the Rafa days sell before buy. Suarez is being killed upfront for us When he wants to leave like torres did because we are not signing or going foward is he going to be a basterd aswell. We live die and work hard everyweek we put liverpool tattoo go to matches we are poor but can wait to watch our loved LFC. BUT this is heart breaking seriously its been Depressing for years .We need to do a model on Arsenal when they had henry viera berchamp . buy best players around dont buy for years cause team is big and full off talent build stadium that brings in more capital. FSG and Glaziers take more money out of football then put in. Im a rafa fan, but Give rodgers money before you hang him and not FSG.

  5. Oussama Assaidi is much better than Juafren Suarez and Fabio Borini. Keep often playing him.

  8. '6 million'

'you get what you pay for'

So what do you expect for £35m, in terms of quality? Andy Carroll?
What do you expect for £6m, in terms of quality? Agger?

'you get what you pay for' standard is not necessarily the most reliable of measures in football.

  12. '.....henry viera berchamp . buy best players around, don't buy for years.....'

Vieira was a young back up player for Milan and barely played for the first team. Henry was struggling in Serie A and was still a talented but raw player. Bergkamp, too, was struggling in Serie A. They weren't the best players around at the time and weren't that important (or at least became less important) to Milan, Juve and Inter respectively. So it wasn't as if Arsenal bought those players at their best, etc.

  14. Only seen him play twice but didn't look all that good.

But wouldn't surprise me if Rodgers went for a player that is ex/current Barca, and from teams like Dortmund and Bilbao. As they share some common traits about their passing and movement that Rodgers seems to be implementing here, as well as the high pressing.

  15. rodgers was always going to be the cheap option what manager in his position was going to turn down the chance o a lifetime cannot blame him for that but imo fsg have a hell of a lot to answer for as to the way they are running the club
