Liverpool could be set to capitalise on Derby County's ongoing financial struggles by lodging a bid for their coveted midfielder Will Hughes.
Despite ongoing cost-cutting measures at Pride Park, Derby boss Nigel Clough has reportedly being told that he must raise £1.8million for the club when the January transfer window opens.
One way of raising the money is to sell 17-year-old midfielder Will Hughes t the highest bidder, and according to one source, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool are currently 'considering bids'.
£4m-rated Hughes made his debut for England U21 squad last night. He came on as as a 65th-minute substitute for Josh McEachran, becoming the second youngest player to get capped for the U21s.
Derby youth academy director Darren Wassall praised Hughes after his call-up to the England U21 side. He enthused:
"It's a great achievement to get in at 17 and we are all delighted for him. To make that rise into the Under-21s so soon is fantastic for him and everyone at the club.
"For a 17-year-old to be playing in the first team of a Championship side is very unusual. I bet there are not many 17-year-olds playing at the level Will is week in, week out."
Hughes' current contract expires in 2015.

Only if we have spare money. As everybody knows we need to add first team strikers.
ReplyDeletederbys financial struggles what about ours
ReplyDeletebuy him for 1.8 million and loan him back to them tilll the end of the season, the fans want proven tried and tested players in January.
ReplyDeleteforget him.we need to buy either shola ameobi if he is willing or nicklas bendtner
ReplyDeleteI disagree with you mate, Bendtner is a poor player, he flopped at Arsenal, didnt set the world alight at Sunderland, he cant get a game in Italy. His ego is ten times bigger than Brendan Rodgers.
ReplyDeleteshola ameobi...you having a laugh !
ReplyDeleteI posted too soon Charlie Austin of Burnley is wort a punt if buying 2 strikers but not if buying just 1, he or Jordan Rhodes.
ReplyDeleteyean billy.i agree with you.austin seems a better buy than the two names i mentioned.just to clarify i meant sammy ameobi not shola
ReplyDeleteNewcastle will be able to retain their 2 African strikers in January as Senegal didnt qualify for the African Nations. However the rumoured 7m buy out clause for Demba Ba could trigger a bid from Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteNewcastle though play route one football as all Ba's goals seem to come from long balls, muscling his way to goal. Whether he would be effective with the style of football Rodgers endorses, who knows. I havent seen enough of Sammy Ameobi to pass judgement.
na not ten times no one has that big an ego
ReplyDeletethe names were talking about show how little we expect under rodgers and fsg god help us
ReplyDeletewho would you suggest?
ReplyDeletehe is quality.at borini's level
ReplyDeleteLook's like a good investment much much better than the 16 mil kenny pay for jordan.
ReplyDeletePowell and McEachran looked good yesterday from the bits I saw. Of course, McEachran has played under Rodgers. Maybe something that will happen down the line?
ReplyDeleteNo Thanks!
ReplyDeletewe should have been in for rvp huntalaar and other top strikers we are one of the most prestigess clubs in the world but we have porper pockets the big players will not even know who rodgers is and if they watched the recent documentory about the club they will have seen a buffoon mascaraiding as a manager
ReplyDeleteyou carry on supporting Everton, leave LFC supporting to us!
ReplyDeleteand you carry on beliveing in rodgers no matter what and leave the worrying about how hes dragging the club down to also rans his own quote think top 7 will be good this year to us
ReplyDeletemceachran no thank you rodgers spent 27million on 2 players who have played for him before and imo ones half decent the others a total waste of money
ReplyDeleteIf u believe RVP and other top strikers will come to liverpool when we cant offer CL, u are deluded...And this is his 1st season yet...give him atleast 3 transfer windows to prove his worth? We are not, and i repeat, WE ARE NOT CHELSEA TO SWAP MANAGERS JUST COZ OF A BAD RUN OF GAMES...
ReplyDeleteI just want to say that the amount of money so-called 'wasted' by BR is nothing compared to KD and DC. Or are you another accountant that supports the theory of 'net spending'? Let me remind you that paying 50 mil pounds for a kid that scored only 14 top-flight goals in his short career is a display of pure stupidity of its highest order, regardless of how much money one got from player sales.
ReplyDeletePlease get it right, big man, it was KD that wasted a big chunk of FSG's money but right now BR is getting the stick from us fans. You don't expect a non-oilfield-backed soccer club owner to throw hundreds of million pounds into it every season, do you? Why not try to understand that a normal soccer club needs to be operated profitably by its own turnover, something like what Arsenal is doing all these while.
Jason, I don't know if BR will get the sack if he finishes the season any lower than 8th position and if FSG is sicked of this not-so-fantastic profit making sporting business in UK and sells it off finally, but I really hope by supporting FSG and BR through this season can make you a happier man at the end of it.
Sorry for my mistake here, I'm talking about 35 mil pounds paid for AC and not the 50 mil pounds that I mentioned, but my stand for this transaction doesn't change.
ReplyDeletestuff your punnctuation how many managers have we had in the last 4 years did we not get rid of rafa and kenny and even roy for a bad run of results well rodgers as suppassed them all end of story buck up or ship out rodgers and the yanks
ReplyDeleteand rodgers spent 12 million on the worst striker i have seen at anfield in my lifetime how do we know kds signings would not make it downing apart they should have been given a bit more time same as you ask for rodgers but rodgers will not play kds signings eg coates on sunday when agger was unfit because he wants to be able to use the squad as a excuse he had kds squad and 30 million and we have gone from cup winners to chumps also lfc we 5th last xmas then we lost suarez how would rodgers team look now without him we would be in the bottom 3 when suarez came back we were out of champions league contention and we concentrated on winning the carling cup and nearly the fa cup after 12 games this season were out of cl contention yet rodgers chucks away the carling cup messed up in the europa league a draw in our last europa game would have just about got us throught so tell me what his he saving his players for a relagation battle
ReplyDeleteI dont know how you even compare KD's squad to Rodgers! Dalglish had some decent players like Kuyt, Bellamy, Maxi in the squad. So he could call them whenever he needed. Kuyt and Maxi left because KD didnt gave them a proper chance and their deal with the clubs had done even before Rodgers joined LFC. Bellamy left because he wants to spend more time with his family. KD failed to utilize the squad we had. He replaced Meireles with Adam, Kuyt with Henderson, Maxi with Downing. Raul,Dirk and Maxi along with Suarez actually saved the season for KD in 2010-2011 where we played brilliant in the 2nd half. Rodgers had to start from scrtach. Allen is a decent player. He can play CM,also more impotantly as a cover for Lucas. Borini was brought in as a replacement of Kuyt and he came from Serie A which is totally different from PL, so he needs some time to adjust. But his movements and workrate is good. BR is building a team and he has done well so far. However he will be judged after his performances of January. Transfer dealing are really important for managers. If he got that right in January and next season I'm sure we will win the PL title sooner than we're thinking. YNWA
