At the beginning of November, Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan revealed that Reds target Klass Jan Huntelaar is desperate to move to England, and is 'dying to join the others' in the Premier League. The Dutch striker has been continuously linked with a move to Anfield over the last few years, but he's now made it clear that a move in the January transfer window is out of the question.
In an interview with Sport1, Huntelaar - who grabbed 48 goals and 10 assists for Schalke last season - was asked about speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool. He responded:
"I've heard the rumours, but I have had no contact with any other club.
"I plan to stay with Schalke until the end of the season.
"What happens after that, you never know in football, but if there is interest after that, we will see".
Huntelaar's comments appear to rule out a January move, but given the fact his contract runs out in June 2013, it seems unlikely that a decision about his future will be delayed that long.
Schalke will want to get him tied down asap to a new deal, and if that cannot be done, then they won't wait till the summer to let him go as they would risk losing him for nothing.
In an interview with Bild in July, Shalke general manager Horst Heldt revealed Huntelaar's buy out clause:
"He has a €20m (£16m) buyout clause in his contract, and rich clubs can afford it"
After sixteen games played this season, Huntelaar has grabbed 8 goals and 3 assists for the Bundesliga club, thus maintaining his one-in-two strike rate.
A reunion with Luis Suarez is an exciting prospect to consider. At Ajax between 2007 and 2009, Suarez and Huntelaar grabbed over 125 goals/assists between them (!)

he hasn't had any contact that's the main thing he may say he wants to stay until the end of the season but if we make an offer which is too good to refuse he still could change his mind, i don't think what he has stated is written in concrete as he still refuses t sign a new deal with Schalke
ReplyDeleteIt would make perfect sense for Huntelaar to come to Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteIt therefore wont happen.
He'll go to Tottenham.
Please go for him to save our season. Brendan is trying to lower expectations by saying finishing 7th would be a fantastic finish, ohh please!!! GOD HELP LIVERPOOL YNWA!!!
ReplyDeleteIt would be a fantastic finish, considering the form we've shown thus far, but I doubt that he's aiming for seventh, it's perfectly understandable of him to downplay expectations, expectation has crippled the club in recent times with too many fans living in the past and expecting major trophies every year. The reality is, we lost ground to the more forward thinking clubs and we're still playing catch up. History aside, we have no divine right to expect the club to be in contention for anything major, and it is this absence of expectation that will ideally allow our squad to flourish and develop as a cohesive unit, with aspirations for future glory, while procuring the pieces for coming good in the here and now.
ReplyDeleteOne of the best comment this blog ever had.
ReplyDeletei wish all fans and supporters reasoned like him.......
ReplyDeleteAbout time fans stopped being so fickle and started to reason. The best comment I have ever seen about Liverpool. Fantastic
ReplyDeletespot on
ReplyDeleteHuntelaar will stay past jan due to the CL. His team will likely qualify for the knockout rounds.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like he'll come to the UK, as its one place he has not been yet, and the culture is not that different from his home land.
I believe there's a good chance he will join us. He's proven, he'll be free, he was lethal with luis at ajax...depending on if BR wants him.
Thats the only doubt in my mind, being as he's stated that luis is the false 9 and will stay central. Huntelaar needs to play centrally.
Make no mistake, LFC are looking for bargains. bosmans, unfashionable nations players and young, as yet 'unproven' players. Huntelaar falls into one of those categories.
We need to solve this issue in January, not next summer. So if Huntelaar is not an option in January, he's not an option.
ReplyDeletegreat post just one thing we are lfc and i am afraid they will always be expectations and at the begining of any season these will always be high and should be because when we start thinking that finishing 7th is good enought it will show this great club as finally thrown in the towel ..like i said great post
ReplyDeleteI have heard from a close source that theo walcott is on his way to liverpool in january
ReplyDeletethe last bosman signed was Joe Cole and look at his wages, Bosmans do not always represent good value for money because you pay the transfer fee in inflated wages usually.
ReplyDeleteI am looking around at other teams and very few pick up a 'good Bosman' if there is such a phrase.
Seb Larsson at Sunderland was ok though not a world beater, think Everton got Jermaine Beckford he lasted a season as was out of his depth.
Haha awesome. Was that a taxi driver from Mexico ? If so i can confirm he is a very reliable source
ReplyDeletea taxi driver in Llanfairfechangogogogoggoch more likely
ReplyDeletehow many times have you wrote about this same story ?
ReplyDeletehe is world class ofcourse and Suarez can be a great factor to make this move successful especially if they have a good relationship still
ReplyDeleteJan Lass Huntelaar and David Villa will be great addtion strikers if LFC can sign them.Natural and machine of goal scorer.Worth to signing.
ReplyDeletelike all the other great players?? dempsey??? Sigurðsson??? complete assholes they are
