Goal solution? Striker who once had 'heart set on LFC' can leave for €10m...

Thirteen games into the league season and Liverpool are still suffering from the same maddening problem: poor finishing and Luis Suarez aside, an inability to score goals regularly. Brendan Rodgers recently admitted there will not be 'wholesale changes' in January, but Liverpool desperately need to spend decent money on a new striker, and if that doesn't happen, fans will apoplectic. Who to buy, though? Well, Marseille striker Loic Remy is available, and he wouldn't cost the earth.

Speaking to Le10Sport yesterday, Bruno Satin - Remy's Agent - said:

"Marseille needs the money and Remy going could be a solution. If they were to get an offer of €10m, the club would let him leave."

Marseille chairman Vincent Labrune recently confirmed the Ligue 1 outfit is experiencing financial difficulties, and he specifically stated that certain players would be allowed to leave. He told France Football:

"Our objective is very clear: we must sell players. We are trying to reduce the wage bill and our priority since May has been to get money to make up for missing out on Champions League. We have three players we have agreed to let leave - Cesar Azpilicueta, Stephane Mbia and either Loic Remy or Andre Ayew"

Remy has been linked with a move to Anfield on several occasions over the last year, and prior to the Euros, the player's agent, Frederic Guerra, revealed that the France International harboured a 'dream' of playing in the English Premier League. Guerra has also made it clear that Remy wants to play for Liverpool:

"He [Remy] is ideally suited for the English game. He is determined to go to the Premier League, and his heart is set on playing for Liverpool. Remy is pure gold...He has great pace and that is something Liverpool need in attack".

If £13m-rated Remy 'had his heart set on playing for Liverpool' a year ago then I doubt much would've changed in the intervening time. The Reds were obviously interested in the player, and given the fact Marseille are desperate to sell, shouldn't Brendan Rodgers at least consider the possibility of a deal?

Remy's stats for the last two completed seasons:

* 71 games played
* 32 goals | 9 Assists
* Goal/assist every 1.73 games
* 13% conversion rate (Suarez = 16.3%)

Remy is not the most prolific goalscorer but his conversion rate is pretty decent, and this is what the club needs. Worth a bid?

  1. Rather have Demba Ba for less amount/ Huntelaar for more or less same amount. None of these gonna happen though.

  2. At £7-8M he would be a good move for us.

  3. ?last good striker to come from french football to england lol just a long line of flops

  4. Henry, though he had a stint at Juventus before going to Gunners.

  5. at 25 - 26 he'd represent a good buy of a player in his prime (like Suarez)... Generalizations like "long lines of French or Foreign players" failing are irrelevant, the player either has the quality or doesn't.

17 Appearances at national level, 4 goals and 1 assist is not a bad return, especially given how bad the French team has been over the past few years. I haven't seen Loic play much, but have heard many things about him... surely he's worth a look...

  6. so he came from italy thats why i said from france because there as not been one, us and arsenal have bought enought duds from there to realise that

  7. just saying the list of failures is endless

  8. Remy would be a good signing and would add quality to our attack and also add some pace on counterattack. But still we'll need to sign a goalscorer because Remy isn't one.

  9. Remy would do well at liverpool if he comes, but having Huntelaar or Cavani would be better.

  10. 71 goals in 196 games for club...

    39 in 95 for Marseille?

A goal every 2.8 games? We could do with that, and I'm sure given a bit of time (if he is the right fit for the team) he will improve his stats, as quite a few players have managed to do under Rogers already...

I'd tread carefully to say he "isn't a goalscorer"...

Counter attack and pace would be a great addition, we're lacking slightly on the counter and often get devastatingly hit on the break...

  11. Nicolas Anelka, Henry, Olivier Giroud, Louis Saha, Jérémie Aliadière , Charles N'Zogbia...

Admittedly, France are better at producing midfielders, but their players are highly technical. Loic has a lot of strengths...

  12. rodgers has the same league points as hodgeson after 13 games hodgeson won his 14th and we all know what happened to him stats mean nothing

  13. I dont care what everyone says. I like this guy - and for 7M-8M at 25, is a decent bargain any time of the year.

  14. giroud is looking ok now. 10m for remy= a steal.

  15. shame about huntelaar if we had been looking like having a chance of champions league next year it could have been possible. never mind we can have another go next year and the year after as long as we dont spend any money who cares i just want to see fsg get rich and rodgers carry on regaurdless then we can celerbrate a win against wigan like a fa cup semi final

  16. Sure... but most of us actually believe in Rogers... his philosophy and what he has done for the club thus far has been plain to see. Hodgeson took the mess we had and made more mess, tried to make us into a West Brom. Rogers took a mess, implemented his own philosophy, got the fans behind him, got his players firing, brought in the youth we so long hungered to see and has made do...the improvement there is for all to see.

Yes, stats are not everything, but they paint a pretty indicative picture. Compare Hodgeson's stats with Rogers'... JK would you be able to assist here? Maybe compare that of Rogers, Hodgeson and Dalglish... (You'd surely see improvement in possession, passing, goal attempts and perhaps even defensive form).

Kenny was actually pretty good the stats will tell you, but the results say otherwise. If a couple more of those shots hitting the upright, disallowed goals, unfair goals and missed penalties went in then maybe he would still be our manager. But alas, The King is dead, long live the new Shanks...

Loic Remy, similarly, if he is the player many have claimed him to be (Stats indicative), with the technique and mentality to match, then he could be an excellent player at Liverpool. He could be horrid, many have come and failed under the Anfield glare, but he is certainly an option... A player who could improve himself at Liverpool in my opinion...

  18. Alex Inglethorpe has left Spurs to join Liverpool as U21 coach, Rodlfo Borrell promoted to head of academy coaching.............on the LFC website now!!....................Inglethorpe has done wonders for Spurs recently!!

  19. Wilfred Bony is still the best option for me...

  20. Yip... truly not much to draw from, however, BR is here to write a new history... I believe he can get the best out of any player if they are willing to work, French or otherwise...

French Strikers do well in other leagues...

Argh... remember that David Ngog horse shyte?

  21. You talk like you know it is not gonna happen(Huntelaar). Something you read on the topic, or just your opinion?

  22. Heard a few people mention Darren Bent, iam hittin the bottle if we get him!

    ReplyDelete
  23. my opinion he wants champions league we are not in it this year we will not be in it year hes not going to wait 2 years if were lucky at is age

    ReplyDelete
  24. good post until you completly ruined it by even comparing rodgers with shanks

    ReplyDelete
  25. Lol... the two are miles apart currently, but they both had something in common:

A vision for the club we love!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Bony has made 14 appearances and scored 15 goals. All in a "lesser league" admittidly, but with his pace and power he might be that finisher who can fight his way into the box and get at the end of all those mazy suarez runs and put the ball in the back of the net. Only problem I see here is the Cup of Nations. He's only been capped once for his country but I'm sure if we've noticed him then so has the Ivory Coast FA. Might be worth a look in the summer though

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ah snap! forgot about that 1! African Cup of Nations...

Reminds me, I gotta get some tickets!

  28. Hope he is mercenary...

    ReplyDelete
  29. If he is available at 10m euros, then I think he is worth a punt.
I haven't seen him play too much but he's a player that has been linked to top clubs for the last five years or so. That usually means they've got something about them.

    ReplyDelete
  30. his current season is nothing short of disastrous. He has been injured most of the time and now is struggling to find any form. And the club desperate to get to rid of him, my only hope is go for huntelaar, that of course if we could better our position before january

    ReplyDelete
  31. think other clubs will match our wages offer so even thats not going to help us

    ReplyDelete
  32. and they will be miles apart when rodgers leaves lol

    ReplyDelete
  33. Lol... good 1... buuut I'm going to put my neck out and say that we won't see the back of Rogers any time soon ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. He,s an average journeyman pro, if thats the standard of player we aspire to then we,ll be qallowing with the no marks for ever, the guy is no way good enough for Anfield, buyin these pony players has got to stop

    ReplyDelete
  35. your right fsg wont sack him they love him hes there yes man

    ReplyDelete
  36. Riiight... cool mate, enjoy the game

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well if we don't spend too much on the fee, we can spend on the wages...

    ReplyDelete
  38. but other clubs can more than match the wages fsg want to pay

    ReplyDelete
  39. but no clubs bought him so usally means hes shit£ and his agent wants to make some money

    ReplyDelete
  40. Go support chelsea you muppet

  41. What could be more Scouse than a steal?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Not for me. One of his best features is his aerial presence and our team, and the style we play, wont make the best of it.

The same is true of Huntelaar, but I think Klaas is a better all around player (I resisted the strong, strong urge to make a pun just then). Rémy's pace would be welcome though. He has the right build for the Prem.

I still think we should be looking at Damiao. He looks very much like a Prem player.

  43. You do realise that if he leaves Schalke he will not be able to play Champions League football for another club this season and presently no club has qualified for next seasons' Champions league as far as most major leagues are concerned.
Liverpool is only 4 points off Arsenal who have qualified for Champions League 13 seasons in a row so may infact be the club to target rather than West Brom who are riding very high but like Spurs and Newcastle before them may falter to keep their brilliant form through out the season.
It is reassuring when direct rivals are not punishing our failure to secure maximum points by leaving a window open for us to catch up.
The fact Suarez joined when we not in a champions league spot is also a good reason to believe other stars may do the same in the hope they will make the difference and help the club climb up the table.

    ReplyDelete
  44. You can't copy paste a conversion rate to a goals per game ratio in different leagues though. In England, a striker gets a lot less chances than in France during a match. So if he converts 1.5 of every 10 chances, he may get a goal every three or four matches. Suarez gets away with it because he hardly ever gives the ball away so nearly every shot on goal is his. People notice that he scores nearly all of our goals and that Gerrard and Sahin have dried up but that has everything to do with Suarez selfishness as a striker and nothing with the quality of Gerrard and Sahin or most of the other midfielders and attackers.

  45. French players have never done well at LFC [at least none that I can remember]. As far as his cost, we're being heavily linked with Daniel Strurridge at £12m. So if that was the case i'd rather have Remy.

    ReplyDelete
  46. How much do tickets cost just out of interest?

    ReplyDelete
  47. For the last two decades, you can't really name one nationality that has done well at LFC :-)

well i'd like to suggest a really talented winger that i think can help improve lfc's creativity up front, that winger is the young egyptian Mohamed Salah, he plays for FC Basel and i was really impressed with his performance against brazil in the olympic games, yet, im pretty sure he wouldn't cost us that much, here are some videos for the lad

But it's all happening in the north so I gotta get a flight and maybe go stay with my brother...

  50. I would go for Darren Bent, proven in the premiership, Spurs top goalscorer even when Redknapp never played him in half of their games. Scored goals at Sunderland and now out of favour at Villa. He may not work hard up front, but he knows were the net is and that is our problem. Games are won with goals and he's a proven goalscorer at every club his played at.
