Earlier this week, Italian newspaper La Stampa claimed that Liverpool are ready to make an offer for Montpelier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who is currently serving a 5-match ban for violent conduct in a recent Ligue 1 match. In an interview yesterday, The 22-year old confirmed he is aware of the rumours, but he made it clear that a transfer is not on his mind at this moment in time.
When asked about rumours linking him with likes of Liverpool, Barcelona and Manchester City, Yanga-Mbiwa told Sky Sports:
"I'm flattered to be linked with the biggest clubs in the world, but to be honest I'm thinking only about Montpellier. We need to show strength of character to come back to our level and win games".
in May 2012, the defender talked about his desire to play in the Premier League. He told Canal Plus:
"Playing for Manchester United would give great satisfaction and it would mean a dream could become a reality. Arsenal too are a big team"
Yanga-Mbiwa's contract expires in June 2013, which means he will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January.
The £7m-rated France international recently sparked controversy after he viciously elbowed in the face Romain Hamouma in Montpelier's 1-1 home draw against St Etienne last Friday. He is now serving a 5 match ban for the incident.
Given the fact he's in the last year of his contract, any club that comes in will probably be able to get the player for a reduced fee. Worth a bid?
