'I would love to go back!' - LFC legend admits he wants Anfield return. Possible?

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has admitted that he would love to return to Anfield one day in a coaching capacity.

In an interview a few days ago, Fowler - who broke into the Liverpool team at the age of 17 and went on to score 183 goals for the club - was asked if he would like to return to Anfield and work with Brendan Rodgers. He said:

"I understand why people ask, and the simple answer is yes, I would love to go back.

"It's not just a case of me getting my bag and my boots and just turning up though; you've got to be asked to do these things, and if I was asked, I'd definitely jump on board".

If Rodgers was to bring in someone to coach the club's misfiring attacking players in the art of finishing then Fowler would seem to be the obvious choice.

Tonight's defeat to Udinese underlined again that Liverpool need to be more clinical in front of goal, and who better to teach the players how to do that than one of the greatest finishers in the history of the English game?

Rafa Benitez won major brownie points with Liverpool fans when he brought Fowler back to the club in 2006, and 'God' is still thankful for getting that second chance. He enthused:

"When Rafa brought me back to Liverpool, I was like a kid on Christmas day; I was so excited. I did reasonably well, and scored a few goals. I absolutely loved it; going back was the best part of my football career".

  1. I don't know what kind of people would answer "No" on the poll. I would have him back this minute!

  2. After the transfer deadline day everyone connected with the club was dissapointed, and rightly so, every lfc fan was worried as to where the goals are going to come from, again rightly so, as we haven't been good enough in front if goal... However an even bigger dissapointment came in the shape of schoolboy defending, we have been far worse defending than scoring and that worries me, it's all good playing attackIng football, but football also involves defending, and right now we are as poor as any team in the premier league.

  4. Misfiring attacking players? Seems the problems sre obvious and lie elsewhere atm.

  5. The younger strikers would benefit from his experience. But does he even know how to coach? I doubt BR would even consider an unexperienced trainer/coach - except for PR reasons...

  6. Before Rafa brought Fowler back in 2006, LFC was also struggling to score goals, but thing changed after Fowler coming, the kids started firing the balls into the back of the net once again. So why not coaching staff? Nothing to lose

  14. I am 'what kind of people'. Being a good striker does not mean you will be a good coach does it? Some of the thickest people in the world are former players on Sky Sports, some who can hardly string a sentence together. Would Paul Merson make a great coach? I don't think so. Sentiment alone should not be the only criteria for selecting a coach.

  15. That's the thing. We don't know yet. So I say lets give him a chance.

  16. The difference being Paul Mersin doesn't want to coach, Fowler does and has his badges and has managed teams already, mayb not successful but as a coach he already has experience and wants to be successful

  17. Being able to do doesn't mean you can teach it. Have you forgotten already who the manager was last season??? The club still employs a better striker than Fowler, two better players than Fowler, both FOOTBALL legends and neither of them is on the coaching staff, either.
