Good news? £9m triple hat-trick wing-star 'still being watched' by LFC.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur target Dries Mertens recently dismissed suggestions that he is angling for a move away from PSV Eindhover, but be that as it may, new reports indicate the the Reds are still interested in signing the winger in January.

Reports over the weekend claim that Mertens is still 'being watched by Liverpool', and the apparently Reds see the Belgian International as a potential 'alternative to Theo Walcott'.

A player of Mertens' undoubted quality could definitely improve Brendan Rodgers' squad, but an alternative to Walcott?

Forget Walcott! Mertens arguably has better technique, and he's more prolific, so Liverpool should focus their attention on him.

The Belgian star has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield over the last month, and a source close to the player recently claimed that the Reds have been following the 25-year old for a while:

"Liverpool first wanted Mertens when Kenny Dalglish was manager but they are still making their interest well known"

In his first season at PSV, £9.5m-rated Mertens scored 25 goals in 43 matches, grabbing 3 hat-tricks along the way, and he's started this season in superb form, grabbing 5 goals and six assists in PSV's first eleven league matches.

  1. jamie. Walcott will be a failure. enuff of overrated english players with premium price tag. alternatives are aplenty

  2. Looking at Suarez and Assaidi and many other signings from dutch league in recent time, I feel there is more value for money signings in the dutch league than in the premier league for sure!!

  3. less wages and a bit less predictable than theo. theo may be first choice for rodgers but id rather have mertens. theo could end up being a downing/cole type signing. he may also turn out to be a good player for LFC but there is something rather one dimensional about him.
If theo comes in, it needs to be as an impact /europa striker imo, other wise he blocks suso and raheem.

  6. We need a striker so I have no idea why we are being linked with midfielders left right and centre can no one see that we lack goals or are we going to sign as many midfielders as possible and play the false 9 like spain but in comparision fail to score and finish mid-table
