'You're finished!' - Angry Besiktas transfer-list €9m LFC winger target. Bid...?

Dubious reports today suggest that Liverpool are weighing up the possibility of signing Portuguese winger Ricardo Quaresma on a free transfer next summer.

Quaresma, currently at Besiktas, has been banished to the Turkish club's youth team after a bust-up with chairman Fikret Orman over his refusal to sign a contract extension, and in an interview yesterday, Besiktas board member Tamer Kıran confirmed that the winger is finished at the club. He barked:

"Despite being contracted to the club, we do not see a future for Quaresma here. We wish to part ways with Quaresma, we want to find him a new club.

"Quaresma will not be rejoining the squad, we have no plans to introduce him back into the team at a later date either."

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is allegedly 'ready to open talks with Quaresma over a pre-contract agreement in January', and on offer would be a two-year-deal worth £80,000-a-week.

I can't see Liverpool going in for Quaresma:

* He turned 29 yesterday, and doesn't fit FSG's transfer profile.

* His career is littered with disciplinary issues; why would Rodgers take the risk of upsetting the spirit he's building at LFC?

* 80k a week for a player who has flattered to deceive for his entire career? If FSG refused to pay a reasonable price for the infinitely more effective - and Premier League proven - Clint Dempsey, why would they pay a discipline case 80k a week?

* On top of everything else, the Portuguese has scored only 9 goals since 2008, which is not the kind of creative return LFC need.

Despite all this, would Quaresma be be worth a punt?

  1. Do not sign this rejected player.Christian Errikson and Younes Belhanda will be much better than him.Don't playing with crazy investment.

  2. No way. Wherever he's been, he's been all style, zero substance.

  3. I remember in 2006-07 when he was killing the Portuguese League and we were linked with him! He was fast, tricky and scored goals. Then the independent stated we made a bid for him and I was in dream land......the rest is history.

This played is good but only at smaller leagues. He can't hack playing for a big club or big league.

Poor record, 29, £80k pw...No thank you. Might as well have kept Rodriguez.

  4. This is only trouble and 80,000 a week is way to much!

  5. According to the Metro (-_-)...we might get him on a free.

  6. you need at least one player like this in your squad. if he is happy and feels wanted he could easily turn his career around. so many players have had new leases of life and settled at some clubs better than others. (look at pienaar, loved by everton fans and is great for them, but didnt work out at spurs, partly because he wasnt trusted enough to be an important member of the squad)) the only thing i would say is that if they want rid of him so bad, why not pay a small fee in january rather than wait. also i think its hard for any player to show consistent good form when they are in and out of the side as he was at barcelona, chelsea, inter and besiktas. at sporting and porto he was a key player so was able to find a rhythm and consistent form.

  7. All lfc need is a creative player and I Think he might fit well in the team.Rodgers can get the best out of Him.He could be as good as maxi and can easily replace kuyt, maxi,Downing,Henderson. His suprb crosses can even make poor carrol work too.
And he is desperate to prove his worth so lets get him.

  8. We need a speedy RW to come from the bench, can anyone suggest a name we should go for.

  9. I think the loss(es) for Liverpool will be both short-term and 2 fold. LFC will lose a lot this season. These losses will also affect it’s ability to draw players to Anfield. That’s a double blow.

I think Mark Halsey’s performance at Anfield was shameful. I would like to suggest — but I cannot prove (which is why I am suggesting) — that his bank was fattened up with his dubious and biased calls Sunday. Somebody should investigate him. Am I the only person who thinks that his decisions were very one-sided? Somebody review the video evidence and zoom in on his face when he made the calls. I swear I detected small smirks when he made those critical calls for Man Utd and against Liverpool. He should be investigated and if proven to be on the take, incarcerated!

  10. This is not going to happen. Wouldn't it be better to sign Demba Ba? He has a 7m quid release clause and he can be had in January and he is the most clinical finisher in the EPL this season and was really quite hot last season until Papiss Cisse showed up. 7m quid!!!

  11. All i am going to say here is simply this. If the player is indeed 29 years old then FSG are more than likely not going to sign off on the deal. We all saw the break down in communication between the owners and Brendan Rodgers on deadline day when Rodgers thought he would get a mere 6million pounds to get another 29 year old called Dempsey and had to find out last minute that it wasn't going to be possible. With FSG looking to get more value for their money these days I am under the understanding that there is a push to bring down the average age of players at Anfield. If the reports are to be believed that Rodgers is indeed ready to make the move for the Portuguese winger then I would have to caution him to approach very carefully knowing that his age would be a factor and his huge salary also might be a negative factor getting in the way of the deal going through with FSG.

I think that Quaresma's football would have to be so good that he would have to cause the owners to change their policy on age discrimination.

  12. Ref Halsey understandably makes a complaint re twitter abuse but to Manchester Police ? that tells you about His mindset re all things Liverpool.

  14. The truth must be faced - we are run by football ignorant businessmen who are making footballing decisions with other interests in mind. why will we get better before january ? we are losing players through injury. I know the owner of this site wont agree but we had a team (with a couple of additions) certain to be top 4, We now have a Manager who has torn it all apart and then had His hands tied behind His back so he cant improve what He has dismantled. Sadly these are the facts. the Manager has to be at fault for lack of striking options even buying Dempsey and keeping Carroll was far from enough yet we have niether. The best way to get a return on Carroll was to play him, Buying Borini was an in house money transfer, fear of a Boston redsocks backlash put paid to spending money on us. A dislike of the percieved power hold of Dalglish on the Club and Fans put paid to Him. Brendon might be the right guy but not one decision was made for the in the best interests of the Club. If I am proved wrong I wll be a very happy man.

  15. Rafa and Dalglish are GONE, deal with it.

Quaresma, no way do we need a disruptive player like him in the dressing room. Rodgers has enough problems to deal with, without adding more, and as you said JK 29, so pushing 30 by the time we would get him, he would be competing with Sterling, Suso, Assaidi, for a place, hate to say this, but i'd rather have Downing, god that hurt saying that.

  16. Pffft. He is simply a liability that had/has considerable talent but a wishy washy attitude. No, thanks.

  17. Get a grip, he made shite calls, he's not part of a fucking conspiracy. I mean for Christ's sake, it is stuff like this (which most fans of most clubs, who can only see things from their own myopic point of view, do as well as us) that fuels all that 'victim' bollocks.

  18. To be fair to him, he actually looked like the real deal for a small time at Porto.

  19. No chance, on about 5 levels. Terrible idea, that no-one, papers aside, has even thought of. That said, if we did buy him, I could quickly see the positive side of buying him because he can do lovely skills.

If we have to have nice build-up play with no cutting edge, we may as well throw in a few more step-overs.

  21. That release clause has well and truly gone, I myself was hopeing we signed him, before it ran out in the last transfer window. Imo we would have won at least 3 games already, if he was here but it wasn`t to be.

  22. Quaresma is an awesome footballer, has plenty of talent and potential compared to any Liverpool player. I personally think they should sign him but not with a 80k per week wage but rather an 50k per week wage as he hasn't established himself to be one of the best just yet. Hes diffenetly what Liverpool need, I guess the only thing hes been missing is trust in a team. If hes able to conduct himself as a mature footballer then he'll be able to shine in the EPL. Thats just my thought.
