'The deal collapsed' - Agent reveals latest on £12m target. Still time for LFC?

Last week, Bologna President Albano Guaraldi publicly criticised Gaston Ramirez for his 'premature' comments about signing for Southampton, and further revealed how he 'refused' the Saints' bid, leaving the Uruguayan in transfer limbo. Now, Oscar Betancourt, Ramirez's Agent, has confirmed that the Southampton deal is definitely dead, which potentially leaves the door open for a last-ditch Liverpool bid.

In a statement on Thursday, Betancourt confirmed:

"The deal with Southampton has definitely collapsed. The player was very happy with the offer but now there is every chance he will stay at Bologna"

It was obvious when the Southampton story broke that it was nonsense. There's no way Bologna would sell Ramirez for £12m, especially when the club has repeatedly maintained that the bidding would start at €20m. Indeed, only a couple of weeks ago, Bologna vice-president Maurizio Setti reiterated that "the negotiations for Ramirez start with at least €20m"

Liverpool could still move for Ramirez, but is this likely to happen? Based on Betancourt's comments, probably not. He added:

"The chances of going to Tottenham can be discarded because at the moment they are a long way from what Bologna want and Liverpool have never made a concrete offer."

If Liverpool haven't made a 'concrete offer' by now then they probably never will, especially when the asking price is €20m+, a price that the club is unlikely to pay.

NO! No more wingers... Just a striker will do me... On the wing we can play, borini, sterling, assidi, downing,Suarez, we don't have a proper striker who finishes properly.

  2. why should we go get another central mid. He is not worth 20m more like 10m to me. but we need a very good striker. not dempsey he is 29 he is american and too full of himself and will not push lfc into top 4. I think maybe negredo would be a decent buy or even keisuke honda.

  3. Very true, we need a goal scorer, but who?

  4. Though i think he could be a good signing i cant see it as just how many midfielders do we actually need? we have a squad swamped with midfielders, we should be looking to offload a few so we can get a striker who knows were the net is in i cannot believe BR hasnt sorted this out already... if we have to pay £10million to get dempsey in then pay it (though i know its a little steep for his age) but then i think we would get him for £7-8million, either way we need a striker who is gonna hit the back of the net ASAP!

Tbh wished we signed Jelavic is pure class.. But Dempsey wud do for now he knows where the back of the net is... :)

  7. Dempsey is super over rated because he is american. I bet if liverpool took the time to look into south american leagues they could find 10 strikers who are better than dempsey look at damiao but he is a CL player so i doubt he will join us.

  8. please remind me how the player who scored the 3rd most in the EPL last year is overrated at 10m pounds? Have you ever watched hime play. Was him not scoring against us last year not proof enough? comee off it.

He isn't overrated at all.. He works hard, scores cracking goals, and can finish off simple chances unlike Suarez, also a threat in the air

  10. dont like dempsey hes simply not pretty enough for liverpool!!! we need a goodlooking highly talented sticker and clone of teh late great TORRES!

A stricker who can stop for a photo and still put teh ball at the back of teh net!

  11. A three day old story lifted from the Daily Mirror??

    Pretty poor article

  12. A creative and intelligent midfielder(Sahin) trumps a striker right now.
I personally think we need a quality full back, can anyone safely say they feel 100% comfortable if either Skrtel or Agger where to get injured that we would be fine???
If Dempsey where available for a fee that would offset selling Spearing and Adam then i am ok with that, Dempsey would defo be on less than Adam a week so we also save a little on Spearings wages.
Coates and Carragher will not be the answer!!!

  13. the southampton deal broke down because they didnt want to or rather cant afford to pay 12 mill up front they wanted to pay 8 mil with the  rest in installment, bologna are in financial trouble and need the hence the reason 12 mil is acceptable but they need the money and they need it now not in installments

  14. We do have a decent striker in my opinion, but he has`nt been given a chance? 15mins just Isn`t good enough? yes Andy Carroll would score plenty if given the chance, Brenden Rodgers needs to play him for at least ten consecutive games, im sure big andy would relish the challenge, and come up with the goals we so need. Yes i do think Clint Dempsey would add to our goal tally too, so i hope we get him in asap. I think the team played quite well against Man-c, a few errors cost us all 3points, but im sure over the following weeks, we will get better and stamp them out. It was great to see Seb Coates given a start he had a decent game and will get even better if used more? Dont forget we played the league champions, and in the first 45mins made them look average at times. Although i would have liked to see Gaston Ramirez in the famous red, we would need to shift the deadwood, who imo are, Downing, Coal, Spearing, and maybe Adam? Downing is woefull, just look at the difference 17year old sterling made, that said it all to me. After todays game im feeling a lot more positive, we just need a little longer with the new system, and if the above mentioned come in Ie Dempsey, and Carroll starting, we will be hitting the net more and more. 16. He had one good season so what he is an average player who is not CL material. look at chicharito he is a nothing player who had one decent man u look at him now. All i am saying is he is gonna be 30 soon and he has no resale value bad piece of business if you ask me.

  18. He is not liverpool material and had one good season. he wont cut it. would rather see shane long signed thats how much i dont like dempsey

  19. If LFC wait until January, Ramirez should be able to buy at £10 million.

Perhaps Rodgers will wait until the final day of this transfer window to put in a bid of around £5m for Dempsey?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Don't think Dempsey is over rated, would be a good addition for 10mil or less or cash and Adam or Cole, failing that option spend some money and go for Sturridge,he's quick, skillful and want's to play in striker roll and he can score goal's!

  21. totally disagree with sahin trumping a striker. He is not a goalscorer we need someone how about erick torres from guadalajara

    ReplyDelete
  22. Heard on fox yesterday that "their cameras have stayed behind for any late development.." This relates to the documentary they are making of LFC for their US audience. Now what better way to market that documentary than signing the best US player. The Dempsey deal will be done.

With this midfield, imagine what this team could do with a Cavani / Falcoa type goalscorer...first time since Rafa that I'm excited about our players, good times are not far away!

  23. They can afford, they're reputedly 6th richest club in the league. The Chairman a hard nosed business man from a banking background, will not be messed around

    ReplyDelete
  24. We don't need Ramirez

Sterling showed today that he can cut it no problem at this level. Then we have Assaidi and Downing also.

Midfield looks very strong, Shelvey had a great game today. Sahin will likely play very often. Gerrard has been poor recently, another careless pass from him led to a goal.

I'd imagine that Dempsey will come in. And maybe a replacement for Carroll.

We looked really good today, can't wait for next week. Sahin and Assaidi will be available, we could give them a proper spanking

    ReplyDelete
  25. I believe the price for Ramirez to be closer to €15m, because that is amount Bologna require to pay off the bank.
I think he'd be well worth a punt, but we seriously need a goal poacher. How many midfielders do we already have......?

  26. Buy as many decent players as possible. Midfield, wingers, strikers and defenders: spend, spend, spend, on quality of course.  That is what Man City have done, brought at least four decent players for every key position and rotate them according to who and what they are playing in.  That is what you do with loads of money.  I know we do not have their money but we appear to magic it up from somewhere.  Instead of buying players here there and everywhere who do not have what it takes and having to sell them again 12 months later; put the money together to bring in four or five quality names, fill the main positions and sell those players we no longer can use: and then add to the squad as more becomes available, quality again and again, buy, buy buy!  Ramirez is at least worth a serious look and we can still get a couple of decent strikers to finish teams off.  What about bringing Torres back or are we too full of hatred for his big mistake?  Chelsea did win the Champions League in the end, so may be he was right and now he is scoring again.  What about bringing Alonso back?  He says he would come back, so why not?  Stick to quality, surely it is not that hard to find: we always did before.

    ReplyDelete
  27. A bloke I was chatting to today reckons Alonso will be back next season -especially if they sign Modric. Hope it wasn't the Bud talking......

With regard to Torres: I would have him back like a shot, but we should have tried last season when he was out of form. If he finds his feet, as looks to be the case, he'll be deadly and then Chelsea will be reluctant to sell him.

  28. Wow NEGREDO, dont use that word here, it might be misconstrued.

  29. I think Ramirez Agent was playing a bluff, hoping us or Spurs would jump in to hijack the supposed Southampton deal, it failed. I reckon we are no longer interested him, especially with the emergence of Sterling recently. I like the direction we are heading with Rodgers in charge, hope we have another signing or two, regardless of who it is, I trust Rodgers will buy selectively to suit his style of play. Despite what some say here, I thought Coates handled himself very well against City, the best team in the EPL. I G'tee Manu and Arsenal will be chitting in their boots when they arrive at Anfield, especially with other players (Sahin etc) to get into the team, and the improvement we are showing each game. Oh and i'd like to apologise publically to my dog Rommel for my red card offence when Skirtle made his blunder.

    ReplyDelete
  30. We should cut our losses on Downing, Cole and Adam. Sell these players and we should be able to buy 2 players. A leftback and a striker.
Rodgers system in attack is wingers and CF are all strikers. no out and out striker. Borini, Assaidi, Sahin, Suarez and Sterling will take these positions. Possibly Dempsey in addition.

I would still say we should keep Carroll. He can come in from the bench to give the team a different dimension to the game.

  31. Jesus give it a rest already, Ramirez was a target of the old regime that's why there has been no bid and no enquiry for him since Rodgers has joined.

  32. Yes, lets look at Chicharito now, i.e., latest full season (11/12). A player that was a rotational player last season and what you laughably call a 'nothing player', managed to score just one less PL goal than the our so-called messiah and 'world class' Suarez, who started considerably more league games than the Mexican. The funny thing is all it took for Suarez to be put on the messiah pedestal was a mere half-a-season of good form (as well as, boringly, acting as the latest catalyst in the anti-FA/anti-media/anti-Manure views that some of my fellow Liverpool fans like, which helped his popularity and god-like status among some) and since then, he has been below par to say the least.

Chicharito was and is not treated as a first XI player at Manure, considering that and the fee, he has done pretty well, in terms of goalscoring last season ( around 1 goal  in 3 games in the league (inc sub appearances), is a good record for a rotational player. Certainly not a contribution of a 'nothing player'). I'd love to have someone like Chicharito as a 2nd/3rd choice striker at least.

Dempsey has had good seasons before, just not as a prolific striker as he was last season but as a versatile attacking player. Saw some good performances in the past operating out wide as well as deep central positions in the last few seasons. Reliable as well, in relation to his versatility.

  35. Can we just sell the 4 expensive British dudes bought by KD and get a decent striker that may not be movement pretty like LS but have all the basics required to put the ball into the back of the net? We are having excessive number of players for certain positions but we definitely need a striker, an out-and-out striker.

  37. Sorry to go over old news but B R's squad selection & LFC's transfer activity just highlights the woefulness o f KD's signings. Dempsey is good value considering we bought dud Downing for 10mill aged 27-28. Adam, Downing, Cole have nothing to offer LFC. I'd love to see Darren Bent playing for us, considering the number of opportunities we could've signed him. That lone wolf comment from Comoli was plain stupid !

  41. No question, the man is Seydou Doumbia, 33 goals in 47 matches in last season with CSKA while around 40 goals with young boys bern.

I have been following himfor 2 years now and he is the perfect fit for liverpool.

*has a 26million euro release clause
Money can be generated from Carroll(15m), spearing(2m), Downing (8m), and Adam (5m).

  51. Forget the suarez evra affair. United obviously have connections in the FA. But chicharito is a cherry picker, sits on the goal line and scores tap ins and a few headers, i admit he is a speed demon but people start saying he is better than suarez, he is united's david villa. But he is not bad as backup to our reserves,

    ReplyDelete
  52. He is a mercenary (although most footballers are) but his attitude was brazen.

I can just picture us signing him and then when he finds himself on the bench he will start complaining etc... I can just see the kind of player he is.

Saying that, he is definitely talented I give him that. Would make a good addition, not so sure about his attitude.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I personally haven't heard or read many people saying Hernandez is better than Suarez. Though I have heard and read plenty about Suarez and his so-called world class ability. In my view, out of two, it is Suarez who gets far more hype. But that is just my view on it of course.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I like Donovan as well as Rossi, especially the latter (Yep, he plays for Italy but you know what I mean and seems to get lot of support back in US, from my vague reading on what US fans think of him. Will be interesting how his career and development pans out after these two big injuries. Cruel if his career pans out like Owen's did after his injuries, in terms of fulfilling his talent and the performances from his early/middle of his career).

Maybe overhyped over in the US, I don't know but in the UK, don't seem to be all that hyped, in my view. A lot of countries hype and get all optimistic over their own players, so I don't really give much weight to that as that is the norm, like British players get hyped up in UK, like German media/public hyped up the Germany team prior to the Euros, etc.
