Clint Dempsey is in the doghouse at Fulham right now, and it looks like he'll definitely be leaving Craven Cottage before the end of the transfer window. I hope and pray that Liverpool sign the goalscoring American striker, and when asked about the Dempsey transfer after the Reds' defeat to West Brom, Brendan Rodgers was predictably cagey on the subject.
In his post-match interview, Rodgers was asked whether Liverpool are actively pursuing Dempsey, to which he responded:
"We're linked with lots of players, but regarding Dempsey, there's nothing to report".
Earlier in the week, Fulham Boss Martin Jol slammed Liverpool over their pursuit of Dempsey, and after his team's 5-0 victory against QPR, the Dutchman provided another update on Dempsey's current status:
"To say he [Dempsey] refused to play is probably a bit harsh but he wanted to move. If you want to move, you don't want to take risks so you don't want to play in case you get an injury.
"There is nothing on the table from Liverpool. Maybe Clint knows more than us but we feel he should stay if there is no other bid. He was the most productive midfield player in the whole league last season and hopefully he will play for us again"
Dempsey has remained tight-lipped over his current conflict with Fulham, but he did post the following on his Twitter account last night:
"There are two sides to every story. The truth will come out soon"
Dempsey would be a brilliant signing, not least because it would almost certainly mean the end of Stewart Downing's first team career at LFC, and that can only be a good thing.

yeah dempsey would be a great addition :D YNWA
ReplyDeletetbh, I still think that we could do better than Dempsey - there are more explosive strikers out there, with the pace and power that we so desperately need, and better wingers with more pace and creativity to contribute to the team. Admittedly Dempsey would go some way to filling both needs at once, but if we're aiming for top 4 then we need quality specialists rather than more general 'jack of all trade' types.
ReplyDeleteDempsey is a good player, and would be a massive upgrade over Downing, Cole and/or Carroll (and Borini too imho!), so obviously I'd much rather see him coming in then have no further signings. But I'd hope that we can still find and pick up better & more exciting options than him at this point (even that Kevin Mirallas, that appears set to join Everton, looks a better option, while being a younger player that is available for a lesser fee)
I was expecting Downing to make an impact yesterday, but no such hunger... Dempsey better I think!
ReplyDeleteI guess at least with Dempsy we would have a player who would give 100% to the cause, which would help.....
ReplyDeleteSuarez on the right, borini on the left with dempse in the centre n carrol on the bench would b a decent start. Downing is just not happening in spite of all his potential. Sterling n assaidi as wing covers. Gerard n Allen attacking through the middle would do for now.
ReplyDeleteFor goodness sake Brendan why are you dithering? If you're worried about the sell on price forget it. Clint is strong and effective and will hit the ground running. Get in there we need his conversion prowess!
ReplyDeleteI'm hearing Tello still a chance. I thought he was a certainty to stay at Barca . God knows we need him.
ReplyDeleteDempsey is not being acquired by Liverpool unless it's on a free. We have never made an offer, or even spoken to him, which would be against the rules anyway. An enquiry was made, a price was quoted by either Jol or his board, was laughed at and here endeth the story. Except for the dodgy press and likewise bookmakers trying to milk the story for their own interests.
ReplyDeleteThey have to sign someone who can score or it'll be the same as last year. The delay is probably in the hope of getting him at a lower price but Liverpool never seem to acheive that. If Fulham are asking £10 million and Liverpool are offering £5 million my moneys on them getting him for £12 milliom.
ReplyDeleteDeadline day-£5 mil i reckon. If he is still refusing to play it may be because they are asking a ridiculous fee for a player with only a year on his contract and who doesnt seem wanted by many teams to drive the fee up-a la Van Persie, and who is 29.
ReplyDeletei don't know if Rodgers know what is coming ahead of us,loosing suche embarassing defeat to west brom i think Rodgers should sign these player and it's because Lfc showing interest that made him (Dempsey)to stay away from Fulham games expecting he will be part of Lfc squad that willl start our opening game but Rodgers refuse uptill now, what noncense again these season knowing that we are still having problem in finishing.
ReplyDeleteI hope and pray we dont sign him. It is not what the club or team needs we have younger players already at the club who should be given an opportunity. We already have far too many very average players at the club. Henderson Downing Adams all okay at previous clubs but not for LFC. Jus add Dempsey to that list
ReplyDeleteBe nice addition to the club. But, still think were light up front. Suarez should be kept out left. For all his directness and trickery. His final ball is still terrible at times. Reminds me of Tevez when he puts his head down and charges down the goal. A little worried about his ability to last the duration of the season. I think hes had the least rest of all our players. Be nice if we could get tello. Def think theres room for someone with pace.
ReplyDeleteDecent enough player but Do Man City, Man U, Chelsea etc want or need him? He is about as good as we are going to get but at 29 is at odds with the plan of the last few years to buy young players and build. That said, he's better than Carroll, Henderson, Allen, Downing or Borini who we have spent a total of (deep breath) £96m on in last 18months.
ReplyDeleteIt's too late to panic now, the last year of Benitez, the 6 months of Hodgson and the 18 months of Dalglish have done enormous damage to the club, we are now the worst we have been in 20 years and buying 30 year olds won't help. We just have to stick with Rodgers and let him build slowly, use the Europa and League cups to play Suso, Sterling etc and accept it will be no better for a bit. The comments from the chairman that we have to get back in the CL haven't helped either. That is a laughable premise to be honest. Not only are the top 5 or 6 better than us but so are at least 3 or 4 other teams and we will do well to finish 8th in all honesty. The last 3 years have set us back 10 years and it will take at least another 3 to be back challenging for the CL and people need to get used to it.
All that was missing from last year was a goal scorer, Dempsey scored, what, 24 goals? (correct me if I'm wrong) and would have done a job for us.
ReplyDeleteI thought we played better last season than yesterday but it is still early doors.
I think it's time for Adam Morgan to be given his chance, even from the bench, as the boy's a natural goalscorer in the mould of Robbie Fowler. Sterling is very similar to Michael Owen with his pace and eye for goal and the two of them link up well.
If we're going to spend time rebuilding then we should give our kids a chance to be part of that re-building process and get them built in to the foundations of this 'new' team.
The crisis is happening now, no good investing in players for a long term future for a new manager to sell on. Buy goal scorers so we actually get off the mark. Dempsey is 29 not blimmin 89 just pay a fee between 5-9 and close the speculation and get yourself a top player in doing so. Jol is beginning to realise that he cannot keep him now and risks letting him go for nothing.
ReplyDelete29, same age as RVP. Sometimes short term gains are what's needed for the long term future of a club.
ReplyDeleteOn yesterday's showing he is well needed for me. Br is the right man but he is short on the players he needs to implement his philosophy and it takes time Allen looked good but we need more goal scoring players or we will keep failing to put away the chances Suarez missed 5 sitters yesterday
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I was first opposed to signing Dempsey based on his age, but now after yesterday's performance we need a goal scorer to get us back into champions league contention (ie the long term gain younspeak of). If he gives us 10 goals in the league, that's 10 more than downing last year. With arsenal losing Rvp and AS, and tottenham set to lose modric and going through a transition, this is our best chance to get back into the top 4, but we need a goal scorer.
ReplyDeleteMore bad news .. seems Sahin has chosen the gooners over us .. after yesterday's performance and CL, no surprise there.
ReplyDeleteBR needs to act fast and get Dempsey. It is a no-brainer. We need goals, he has goals. We need a fighting and never say never attitude. Dempsey has in spades. Don't overpay, but anything less that 6M will be money well spent for a player that - if he reproduces anywhere near the form from last year - will be pivotal to where we end up.
According to news, Liverpool has lost battle for signing Nuri Sahin. He is going to Arsenal. One more blow to Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteWe badly need some proven quality in team. All raw tallent like Borini, Allen, Assaidi will take time to become good players. You can have a few young players but there have to be some proven players in team to sustain in Premier league. I hope liverpool sign some more players. Never mind if they are too old.

lets look on the bright side br has said they will be plenty of more days like yesterday great cannot wait just hope thursday is not one of them the grief i would get of soe of my hearts friends would be unbearable they were all thinking they were out of the europa but that all changed yesterday now they think they have a chance
ReplyDeleteI'd still rather have Dembele, though he is just as effective in front of goal as Suarez, it seems.
ReplyDeleteHey guys an interesting thing, I heard LFC has 184million in
ReplyDeleterevenues and player wages cost us 114million last year(according to a LFC blog).
If its true then :
1.Considering we sold some of our High earning playersour
wage shud be 108million, and the new deals(Warrior, Chevrolet) will increase
our revenue to possibly 200m.
2.We have less money this year coz we had a 50million loss coz
of the stadium and Roy sack. This
means next season Rodgers should have more money, I guess just how much:
Clarke &
Staff sack - 10m
KK sack -15m
Rodgers
arrival - 6m
Staff wage(Kamie
can u help) -10m
Other
Expense(Stadium?) - 10m
This should leave Rodgers 30million NET budget.
3. Considering we qual. for CL budget shud by possibly
10million.
4. Expect spending amount close to KK’s summer. possibly 50m will be
spent(GROSS).
5. THIS is why FSG wont sack BR unless we regress
Conc.:
BR will get net 30m budget only if there is no loss bcoz of
Stadium(Stanley Park), or owners want profit(unlikely coz they said they will
reinvest revenues earned by club), or if BR is sacked and the owners ending
compensating by 8m.
So Cheer up LFC fans.

Hey guys i got good news,
ReplyDeleteUnless we end up finishing 10th and sacking Rodgers we shud have Net 30m budget next season. And 50m gross possibly. Lets get behind BR and hope we finish 5th or 6th(possibly 4th) and we will have money. This season BR has net budget of 15m. The main reason is that we had 50m loss coz of the stadium. The owners had to put some of thier money to give us a budget. Anyway if there are no more Stadium loss we shud get a hefty budget next season.
Dont Blame FSG, blame H&G. YNWA cheer up guys.
he is no RVP mate
ReplyDeleteBR does need to act fast and get rid of Cole, Downing and Adam. He also needs to sort out his team selections Borini needs to play in the middle of the front 3. HE DOESNT need to sign Dempsey.
ReplyDeleteVery disappointed at the result yesterday. Chances in the first half but nobody capable of putting them away. Dempsey has a proven track record and would make an ideal short term solution i.e. able to hit the ground running ! At £5 - 7 million he would be a great investment. I would suggest throwing in the likes of Adam, Henderson and Downing as well, but that would probably scupper the deal completely !
ReplyDeleteAgree....Morgan and Stirling straight into starting lineup for Borini and Downing.....and quick!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletewere that useless and slow with transfers he will probabaly go to arsenal. just disapointment like most transfer times
ReplyDeletewhy is everyone picking on Downing???? I think He could do better but give it time and He WILL gel!
ReplyDeleteI dont like Dempsey I dont care how many goals he scored hes no Torres we need a Torres NOt a Demspey! I hope them Americans have deep pockets Coss We need another Torres Suarez Is not a Torres Borini is not a Torres and Dempsey is not a Torres.
So Dig DEEP and buy another Torres!
PS with the display Gerrard put on on Saturday I think We probably need another Gerrard aswell!!!
Didn't u sign him already? u can have him,. he's a lazy yank diver who will get found out at a 'so called' big club
ReplyDeleteDowning has already had a year without putting in a single quality performance - how long are you really willing to wait for a 28 year old to come good??
ReplyDeleteneed raffa back at the club in some role, that involves him getting top talents back to anfield, sooner rather than later, think telo and sahin would of already signed had he something to do with it
ReplyDeleteDempsey is a WINNER and that's what we need most!!
ReplyDeletewe need WINNERS and that's exactly what he is!!!
ReplyDeleteWe've opened up the position for him, got rid of a players he doesn't get on with and he's currently the "american superstar" that FSG surely want to promote the club as their posterboy in the states? everything points to him coming but nothing? this is just chess of the businessmen if you ask me, FSG know only 1 year left on contract and 29 years old so Fulham have to sell and Fulham know all of the above so they are waiting too, nuts! this will be resolved at 11.59 in a couple of weeks
ReplyDeleteWe need to get rid of the rubbish, not buy more rubbish.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe there should be any room for sentiment. We started sliding when hicks and gillet took over and now the repercussions of that have taken hold and now we are spiralling. We are stuck between a rock and a hard place because we need quality to grt back up the league but don't have the finance. We have to balance the books first. Our wage bill is astronomical for the quality of the squad. This is being addressed with the departures of maxi, kuyt, aurelio, aqualani. We need to ship out adam, downing, Henderson, Carroll and cole because I'm sure they are on approx £300k a week between them and they don't produce nothing to warrant that IMO. We should take £10m for carroll. £5m each for hendersen, adam and downing and terminate coles contract.I'd rather cut losses on them and promote suso, sterling, Morgan to our first team. Then there is £25m from sales to put towards buying some players who have some quality and end product, like Dempsey, Adam Johnson and rondon (Malaga) or demba ba if his £7m release clause is to be believed. Even a player like gio dos santos at spurs would improve our attacking options. He does the business for Mexico frequently.
ReplyDeleteTello played for Barca yesterday, think they won 6-1, he played well, I read.
ReplyDeleteWhat potential has Downing shown in his time at Liverpool ?
ReplyDeleteThe problems players : SPEARING, DOWNING, ADAM, HENDERSON,CARRAGHER,CARROLL.
ReplyDeleteThe solutions is sell :DOWNING,ADAM,SPEARING,CARROLL.
Loan out: HENDERSON
Retire : CARRAGHER
POOR PLAYERS ON SATURDAY:
GERRARD, LUCAS, SKERTEL, DOWNING & KELLY.
PLAYED OK ON SATURDAY:
AGGER,BIRONI,JOHNSON,
PLAYED WELL ON SATURDAY:
SUAREZ,REINA,ALLEN
Let hope that Agger's red card is rescinded otherwise I fear Carragher will play.
Love your optimism!
ReplyDeleteYup! 28 should be a peak year for wingers. Downing is far from a good winger.
ReplyDeleteI will allow Lucas more time since he just came back from an injury. Without Agger Skrtel does not look as good as he can be.
ReplyDeleteDon't even get me started on Downing. What a waste of £20M!
We need Dempsey!
brendan rodgers is making the same mistake kk made.how can u rely on suarez for goals.get dempsey or even daren bent.how do we buy these.sell dwning for 8m,cole for 5m,adam for 5m and raise 18m which is enough to buy even jovetic, bent.if rodgers sticks with joe cole and downing, then he is digging his own grave.the sooner he buys another striker b4 the window closes the better.dont say i didnt warn him
ReplyDeleteTrust me unless things go horribly wrong BR shud get as much money as Kenny had in the summer(not january).
ReplyDeleteThe Dempsey affair has been handled with LFC's unsual 100% incompetence. I won twenty quid betting Liverpool would lose by two goals at WBA - three surprised me as I was sure it would be 2 - 0.It will be the first of a fistful of defeats Liverpool suffer this season and I have already bet all I can afford they will finish no higher than tenth. See no grounds at all for optimism for LFC fans - none whatsoever. Stand by for the usual hitting the woodwork, Reina howlers and endless excuses as season progresses.
ReplyDeletebest post ive read in a while.
ReplyDeleteimo i think its time to move SG on,he is the sacred cow on this team i dont think he inspires the younger players any more,it must be like playing on glass with him as capt.If a captain admits to being partly to blame for loss, what does that say to the team,? screw up i,ll cover your arse.Said he wont change his style,so whats the point in trying to form acohesive unit, also injury prone.I thought we were past the local hero era.C,mon BR SHAKEM UP
ReplyDeleteExcellent post, truly an inspired piece of thinking, get rid of SG, brilliant!!!
ReplyDeleteReally loving the start of this season, i wish there were more LFC fan's like yourself, absolute class mate, such wonderful vision, such perceptive awareness it brings me so much joy reading post's like this, best fan's in the world at Liverpool, most intelligent to boot, love it i do, just fcuking love it!!!!!
Can't wait for our next game, hope Brendan shakes em up and does like you say, Suarez deserves better service, SG is useless, Suarez is proper quality, great personality as well, unlike MR so far up himself he can't see the wood for the tree's Gerrard....
C'mon Brendan lad, get rid of SG, stick him in the reserves to rot.....
Dempsey would be a great addition as an attacking midfielder but we need a striker that can finish in the box and that would be Chicharito. Word is he wants out of Man U. Suarez, Gerrard, Chicharito and Dempsey should solve our goal scoring problems.
ReplyDeletewhy carroll?? would have burried 2 of the chances suarez had at the week end.
ReplyDeleteil laugh when he goes to spurs or back to newcastle and he shows what a good player he is. hes been a good player all his career, depends how much youve followed over the years eh
Dempsey would have been the most valuable addition to the team this summer. I know a lot of people want a younger cat, because they believe that there is more value for your money with a younger signing. The problem now is that a lot of the young signings are still in their "developmental stage" and will be really good in the next coming seasons but lack the quality needed to really take the league by storm. Dempsey is the real deal and is a player that won't break the bank. Costing 10 million he is worth the money and much cheaper than Joe Allen. If we could pay 15 million for Allen we could pay 10 million for Dempsey.
ReplyDeleteOur first game has served as an eye opener to Brendan Rodgers. I don't actually believe that he had the galls to get up in-front of the fans and say that we could expect more games like the one against West Brom. The only reason he was brought on board was to change results so that we wouldn't have more games like the one we had against West Brom. We need proven goal scorers, I like Borini, and Allen , and the other new signings I don't see them as proven goal scores though. Once again at Anfield I believe goals will be hard to come by next season. Thank you Brendan Rodgers.
I have no idea what the manager is thinking . I know he really can't be pleased with the performance of the new signings from the last game.
Sarcasm......A way to avoid the real truth, and we all know what that is,he,s not as effective in his role any longer, cant blame him for not wanting to change his style ,i dont think he can,nor carragher. But thats ok they,re set for life.
ReplyDeleteagree 100% with 100% of what you posted
ReplyDeleteI understand this isn,t an oppion or question;I would like to offer an appology to MITZU,i have just found another of your posts and on reading it you appear to hold the same belief as I,there is only one clique...its called THE TEAM.i am sorry for the sarcasm remark
ReplyDeletei agree 100% carra and gerrard are holding players and the club back they yeild to much influence if jordan or adam had played like sg at wba there would be uproar
ReplyDeleteLol a way to avoid the real truth....Haha not so much avoid the real truth as somehow put my utter frustration and bewilderment at the level of awareness or lack of....somehow into words that wouldn't be quite so angry and offensive as they would be had i not used sarcasm.....
ReplyDeleteBy the way your comment or little dig about "it's okay they're set for life..." what is that all about? Are you TRYING to say something more...? I wonder if you have the balls to come back to me re that and explain yourself...???
Such a shame that you and others can't see the wood for the tree's but i don't suppose Gerrard and Carra will mind afterall they're set for life arn't they.....
Both Gerrard and Carra are legends, long life servants who have helped bring wonderful achievements to the Club, arguably without Gerrard there would have been NO ISTANBUL GLORY.....
NO FA CUP WIN....
AND def NO 2nd place the year Rafa opened his gobshite against Fergie and lost us the title....when it was deffo within reach....
For sure Gerrard and Carra have only ever done what they consider to be right by the Club, they're love for LFC is without doubt, they deserve they're money just as much as Rafa did when he left with a pretty penny....
Naturally you and others are looking for someone to blame, look elsewhere my friend, look to those players who were/are very good friends with Rafa..................
I dont intend on getting in any pissing contest with you over my opinion of sg or carra, from what i have read from you so far i cant tell what your stand is.IN regard to the 'set for life' quote;I would never begrudge a man his true worth, they plied a trade were paid well for it and hopefully saved or invested. Why would i need balls to say that.I think it a shame that someone like you,an obviously ardent fan has to resort to sarcasm to mask his bewilderment and anger,I,d get that looked at...Oh dagliesh was a legnd too was,t he.
ReplyDeleteI'd say we have no intention of ever signing him unless we got him on the cheap, like you said laughable. Most likely it's a smoke screen so BR can sign someone no one is even looking at, take Assaidi for example, who was predicting that.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more, in 3 years our youngsters will be coming into their own with the likes of Suso, Morgan and Steirling in the fold and a couple of years of solid squad building with 20-25 year old's we will be able to work our way back into the CL.
ReplyDeleteI for one am patient, lets just not be hasty and end up going backwards.
Dalglish not Dagliesh...and yes he IS a legend and always will be in my eye's...
ReplyDeleteRe the "they're set for life..." comments, don't you think that it kinda implies that it doesn't matter to them because they're set for life...i.e that they can't fit into BR's system....?
The reason i pulled you up about it is obvious....either you have worded it wrong or you meant to say that they're not bothered if they don't fit into BR's system because they are set for life.....
Thats how it comes across, perhaps IF you didn't mean that then you should have been a little clearer about it so as to avoid any confusion....
As it stands i think it was dig because of the context it was written in, so maybe you DO actually begrudge them for some unknown reason.....just not being honest about it when questioned....
Anyway, you keep banging on about Gerrard not being able to fit into BR's system and i wholeheartedly disagree, so we can agree to disagree...
Lol, as for getting myself checked out for use of sarcasm.....well, that's just laughable, in fact im sure i could even make up a joke about it on the spot....
Man goes to the doctor and says doctor doctor i can't seem to help being sarcastic, the doctor says yeah i bet you can't.... :)
BADDA BOOM!! Sonny OUT.....
