Brendan Rodgers Stats 2008-2012: Entire career to date. Good enough...?

New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is renowned for his progressive football philosophy and insistence on playing the beautiful game the right way, and Reds fans will be hoping he can replicate Swansea's style of football at Anfield. With only four years of management experience behind him, Rodgers is not the most experienced of managers, but that is offset by almost 20 years of coaching experience, including a stint at Chelsea, where he learned from the likes of Jose Mourinho. How has Rodgers fared in his managerial career to date? Here are his complete managerial statistics.

I've compiled these stats purely for information purposes; they're not available in this format anywhere else, and I did the same after the appointments of Rafa Benitez, Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish.

Brendan Rodgers: Total Career Stats

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers stats

Clearly, Rodgers will really need to up his game to improve on the above stats, specifically:

* Averaged 1.2 points per league game (PPG) with Swansea last season; Liverpool managed 1.5 PPG last season, and to get into the top four, Rodgers will need to achieve at least 1.8 PPG, a differential of 0.6 PPG.

* Every one of Rodgers' teams has a history of leaking goals. His teams concede an average of 1.3 goals per game (GPG), and Swansea ended last season with a negative goal difference and an average of 1.4 Goals conceded per game.

* Overall, the stats suggest that Rodgers' teams are not the greatest defensively. Alongside the high goals conceded ratio, there is only a 4 game differential between games won overall (61) and games lost (57).

The stats are revealing on a number of fronts, but at Liverpool, Rodgers will have better players (particularly defensively), and more money to spend, which means he'll be able to buy a higher quality of player.

Just to be clear: In my view, Rodgers is an excellent choice to manage Liverpool; he has all the attributes to be a long-term success at Anfield, and I'm very excited about the upcoming season.

  1. I think in terms of actual tatics, set up and general manager stuff, Rogers  has what it takes. Its true he needs to up his game, but he seems smart enough to know that. My only concern is his transfer dealings. Does he have the pull that another manager would to get in the very best players considering we don`t have CL football anymore. It was rumoured Van Gaal was going to be given the DOF role, and while I`m not sure if that woud have worked out due to his temper, it might have been a good option in terms of players to come in.

I think his style will always leak goals, but hopefully less so with the better players we have. It must be noted he has managed poor teams (no disrespect mean`t there) who`s players weren`t top top players.

He has a lot of work to do, and so far on the transfer side he seems very slow, which is a concern for me. I think it will all depend on who actually does come in and at what price. If he is slow purely to keep haggling then fair play, but if it takes all summer to get Joe Allen and then we still pay 15mil, seems a waste of the summer window when we could have just offered that on day one.

  2. In regards to the wins / loses thing, I think its due to him playing to win not draw. so your either going to win the game or lose. I actually think that`s how it should be played too.

  3. Rodgers has not been given the job of improving liverpool  his job is to do as hes told by the board thats why agger is being hawked like a tenbob hooker and we havent signed any proven players Brendan cannot attract players with funds currently available liverpool are crying poverty but that is bullshit we made 300mil in sponsors last week in usa i fear for the future of our beloved club makes you wonder whats really happening behind the scenes

  4. With those stats you can clearly see that BRs teams leak goals at the back.  If he sells agger or agger wants to leave would you have faith in BR to bring in the right replacement?  Suppose only time will tell.

  5. Any manager who wants to build the club, has to look after club's finances like it was his own money. Efficient dealing in transfer market and lower wage bills are very important to keep club healthy. Money spent should be wisely invested in good players. One top quality addition a year and little other adjustments over a few years can make a good squad which can lead the club to success.
Rogers has to show that he is a good tactician and shrewd businessman in transfer market. He has shown all characteristics for that. Lets hope he is given enough time and not judged straight away!

  11. Hopefully this might help to bring some fans back down to earth. BR is not a messiah by any stretch of the imagination. He is a mid-table manager and careful to do what the owners say.

  12. Blender Doggers is actually a manu spy sent to destroy Liverpool forever. First its agger, then suarez, then Reina, then skrtel, then Johnson, then carroll and finally he will force gerrard into retirement. Alas, the end has come.

  13. they are using liverpool as a feeder club

  16. he wont achieve much as his hands are tied behind him by NESN if they go any slower in transfers we will still be here in january

  17. Wow, the guy has ONE freakin game under his belt at Liverpool and the vultures are already circling... The fans have a responsibility here too: get behind you manager until he can implement his tactics or watch the club continue to spiral out of control. If his approach fails then call for his head, not while he is still warming up his seat. Unreal...

  19. I think BR is the right choice for LFC at this stage, but it doubt he will bring results the first two seasons. I am musch more concerned about FSG. To be able to compete at the top  level we need owners who are in it for the love of the sport, not the love of money. Loosing Gylfi to Tottenham, because of meger 10 or 20 thousand dollars proves that FSG is a  profit making establishment that only thinks about the buck. They wont move the club foward.

  20. i dont think its brendans fault but it dosent bode well when board didnt back him with his first transfer of course he wanted a pay rise to play for liverpool after all the media put so much pressure on lfc players and the pressure playing for lfc is harder than at tottenham and it now looks like we will lose ramirez through board dragging their heels if he can improve squad they need to pay they have not spent as much as they like to make out most was recuperated through deals

  21. would you stop commenting on this website you clearly are not a liverpool fan in fact your profile says 'The end of liverpool'. You continuously slander BR by calling him Blender Doggers so do us all a favour and piss off! We can all accept realistic criticism and open minded debates but you are just ridiculous.

  22. BR was an excellent choice, and my first choice out of all the publicised options.

Looking at the stats above, the Reading stint stands out. It is important that there is patience for the first few months if results aren't immediately transformed.

The media will be hoping for a bad start, so they can hammer him and get the forums going.

We can count on the only critics that truly matter, The Kop, to back the team through any initial hiccups that may arrive.

Suarez signing a new deal is sensational news, he is our only world class player in his prime. If this doesn't encourage alleged want aways to stay, nothing will and good riddance to them.

Be optimistic, try to get to Anfield this year and no bitching!!!

  23. BR knew Sigurdsson's salary request at Swansea. Why did he deserve more with us?

What a way that would have been to start off - publicly cave in to wage demands increase of 50%!!!!

Meagre 10 or 20k is a million per year. Why not just give everyone 50% more than they're worth?

Oh yeah, we don't have unlimited oil reserves or have owners that made their bones in the Moscow aluminium wars..,..

  24. Why do players sign for big clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham etc. Salary number 1. Trophies number 2. Gylfi is a big club player, why should he ask less then everyone else playing for the club. With your reasoning Torres, who had at one time 40 thousand per week with Atletico madrid, should he ask for the same amount with Chelsea. Get real.

  25. Brendan Rodgers has the attributes to be a Succesful manager. Its going to be a long term plan and he requires time and patience from the club and fans to get this football institution back on track. Therefore, I'm sure he has identified the players at Liverpool that he needs to ship out but that isn't so easy without it causing financial implications. Just as it ain't easy bringing in quality players at a reasonable price. Surely by now the club fully realises this.

  26. I agree the important figures for me will be the ones that we achieve this season. Its the here and now that matters.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Salary is number 1, trophies irrelevant when it comes to Spurs - what are they going to win that we won't?

BBC reports that Suarez has just trebled his salary to £100k per week. TREBLED....

So he proved himself and has had a bumper pay increase.....

Sigurdsson would have been earning as much at Liverpool as Suarez did in his first year and he was £22 million player!

Sigurdsson is relatively unproven, let's see if he warrants his salary at Spurs...... Money talks for some people, and footballers have a short career so good luck to him.

Torres is world class, playing for an oligarch who can afford to throw £10 million + after tax per year at him. There isn't a comparison there

  28. Have you forgotten about our former owners, Gillett and Hicks? Or how about United listing on the NYSE, only for a small portion of the proceeds to be used to pay their massive debts? Our owners are saints compared to those clowns. Fact - Liverpool have no debt. Fact - the owners pumped in huge amounts of money last summer (not their fault it was wasted in shite, given they dont know as much about football as Europeans do). Fact - they're giving BR funds this summer despite massive losses in the transfer market (ie Aquaman). We're not run by oil billionaires who buy titles and ruin football - lfc needs to be run like a proper business in order to survive in the current environment, and if that means telling sigurdson to piss off for 10k a week, then so be it. He's not that good.

  29. For once I can disagree with your optimism Jaimie. BR’s teams have consistently completed seasons with a negative goal difference (borne out by the stats). How exactly is that going to change (including GPA of 1.5)? Tika-taka is not the cure-all for football woes – witness Spain in the Olympics. Swansea players were well versed in the style and may have ‘overachieved’ in the eyes of many but this doesn’t necessarily mean Liverpool will surpass their achievements. The supposed ‘better quality’ players have yet to materialize with only Fabio Borini being brought in and BR looking to delve into the loan market because of failure to sign said players. Understandably FSG is shy to spend after being bitten by KK last season and until BR has proven himself. I’ve seen very little to convince me that BR is the one to lead us to EPL glory. Our start to the EPL will be a baptism of fire and I’ll reserve final judgment on BR until the end of the season. That being said I’m somewhat deflated by his appointment.

  31. Get real with d fukn stats man, Reading,Watford and Swensea played good football under Rodgers with very average players at his disposal, lets give d man a chance with quality players spread tru the team!!! YNWA

  32. But come-on! Every manager is a mid-table manager until they are given a chance at a non-mid-table club. Its crazy to think that its all about the manager only. Even Ferguson had a slow start, and he was at a massive club. Even when he took over, ManU may not have won for a while, but its like taking over at Liverpool now. We may have not won for a while, but its a massive club, and a totally different thing to taking over at Wigan or Swansea or Fulham for that matter. And before you crucify me, I don't mean massive as in we have a glamorous history that fans wont let die. I mean massive as in financially. LFC as a business dwarfs most mid-table teams, and so purely on grounds of resources (and not just fan nostalgia) one would expect Liverpool to be near the top.

  33. Big club player?? Man, he was not wanted in Germany, and loaned to Swansea. Sure he did well, but we have enough £10mil player who look great when at smaller clubs, outshining their team-mates, but look pretty crap in red. (Adam, Henderson, Downing etc).

Sigurdsen is a mercenary, who saw he was in speculative demand, and chose the best salary. I don't blame him, everyone needs to take opportunities presented to them. But I am not sorry we didn't get him. We have had five years or more of overpaying for mediocrity and it must stop!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. So three goals in three games for Spurs and one assist, Do you call that mediocrity? In Germany Hoffenheim he was loaned out by a stupid manager, no one understood why, not even the owner. That manager was fired, shortly afterwards.
Another reason that i  think Sigurdsson choose Spurs but not Liverpool is that he is Man U fan. If he had signed for Liverpool his chances of ever  playing for Man U would be very slim.  Transfer from Spurs to Man U is another matter.
