Magic! A brilliant piece of skill by LFC starlet Suso for Spain U19s (VIDEO)

Earlier this week, former Reds manager Rafa Benitez revealed his excitement over the talent of Anfield youngster Suso, and judging by the skill he's showing in the Under 19 European Championship, Liverpool fans should also be excited about the Spanish starlet's potential.

In his column for The Independent this week, Benitez said:

"Keep your eye on Suso, the Liverpool player who will now be playing for Spain Under-19s at their European Championship.

"I tell you, he has promise!"

It looks like Benitez was right. Check out this brilliant piece of skill during Spain's 3-3 draw with Portugal:

The depressing reality is that, Suarez apart, there's no one else in the current first team who has this kind of skill.

Perhaps the commentary will turn out to be prophetic?

"Wonderful from Suso. Two in the middle, back to Suarez..."

Here's hoping we hear the same commentary for Liverpool games next season.

  1. Fantastic, can't see many premier league full-backs being mugged off like that but if he could replicate some of the form he has shown at various levels with Liverpool's first team, we could have a real gem on our hands. Let's hope he doesn't turn out to be another Pacheco, who really is on his last chance.

  2. Great piece of skill but doesnt seem to set the reserves alight so not sure is he ready to step up.  Would like to see him given some minutes when we are already winning games to bed him in see what he can do. He def is one of our more exciting prospects.

  7. To be honest if he doesn't get minutes, he won't improve will he? The tough thing for managers of lfc is that we demand instant success, so it's a really find balancing act between introducing fresh talent from our youth academy and trusting our first XI/ senior squad. If players like Audi can grab 20 mins here and there regularly and perform well then it bodes well for them and for lfc because we won't have to go out and spend £20m on a quality attacker (in suso's case).. Here's hoping suso sterling coady are as good as what we've heard?!

  8. Sorry pre text on phone. Not Audi - suso

He should have been in our 1st team at the age of 14.  Hope Pacheco gets a run this season to.

  13. I think, one day Suso 'll replace Iniesta in that Spanish side, may be as early as 2016 Euro.  Outstanding talent, the perfect prospect to play "in the hole".  However, in last few years under Woy & KD Liverpool had not been a good place for non Brits; be it senior or junior level.

That French Left back Euro U19 winner, was sold for 1mn, & now he starts for Rennes at 19, Pacheco had been a prodigy at U18,U19 level (Golden Ball/Boot winner in 2010 Euro U19), Suso had been tricking for the last 2/3 years, the Spanish young CB (forgot his name) was off loaded last year.  These had been easily the best talents at the Academy, but super hyped British boys like Ececlleston, Robinson, Flanagan, Starling, Coady etc. has the first team game time, Selvy got regular opportunities, Henderson & Spearing limbered for the entire entire season.

I don't think Suso 'll stay after this season, if he is not roster-ed in first team.

  15. Couple of years ago, was not Pacheco doing heroics for spain U19? what has he achieved 2 yrs later? It's not same level guys, it's only a prospect and the most important thing is for him to move to next level. But I believe in Raheem Sterling, he seems to be stepping into next level.

  16. This boy is the next Cesc Fabregas in the making? Cesc played 30-odd games for Arsenal first team at the age of 17. Fernandez Suso is already older by now at 19, though still a very young kid. Hopefully BR can learn some player identification and player development tricks from grandmaster Arsene Wenger. Then we will be not far below Arsenal in the league table.

  17. sure he will

  18. Suso has been showing such skills regularly in the reserves. But the problem with managers in the premiere league is demanding players do chasing and defending first which is not Suso's game. The boy is a wonderful talent and certainly better than the likes of Henderson and Downing who are flops in the first team. Kenny would have saved his ar-se if he had brought in Suso into the team last term as the boy excites the players around him. I thought he would make his debut for the first team before Sterling but this was not the case. Kenny only brought in Sterling as a last throw of the dice at the end of the season just like Rafa did to gain support of the fans before the axe fell. Hope Brandon will give the boy his chance as accept for Suarez no one else in the first team as such great ball skills and the ability to look up and play while ball is at the feet.

  19. The difference now will be the manager,i reckon the young
spanish starlets will be rushing to join Brendon

  20. I've said a few times that I thnk Suso deserves to be brought in to the fold before Sterling. Not that this one good thing vindicates that. Hopefully the pair of 'em will be given a go under Rodgers.

  21. Good point being able to do tricks with the ball without
looking at it is a very difficult skill

  23. Suso is much more talented than Fabregas, if he is nurtured properly he would be one of the best players in the world and future Ballon d'or contender.

  24. since BR was appointed manager n the owners made it known that winning trophies isnt a priority, i think the club should take this opportunity to bed the youngsters like suso, sterling ,coady, ,texeia, morgan etc. the cup games should be used to give these kids achance  to  experience the pace and atmospheres so they gel wel so in two seasons we can hide the cheque and hopefullw they would hav truly developed by then.

  25. Youngsters can only develop when given playing time. I do not want to bash those KD signings all the time. But I seriously don't think any attacking in the reserves can do any worse than SD. All we need is to give them time on the pitch, not only in unimportant cup games but in the league, especially important games like derby matches, games with the top teams. Let's hope BR is a manager that is willing to groom young players, unlike Benitez and KD, only want to buy instant success with money.

  26. Seriously? Even Premier-league centre backs get mugged off pretty easily by a simple drop of the shoulders!

Irt Pacheco, he had a little bit of time playing first team football with Norwich, and showed some of the talent that was expected from his performances with the reserves. As he did when playing with the Spanish youngsters. The only first team games he's had for Liverpool were playing out wide, in reserve line-ups, in Hodgson's all out defensive systems - even Iniesta himself would've struggled to shine in those circumstances...

  27. Suso was starring in the reserves initially upon his arrival, until he started getting shifted all over the pitch...

  28. Sticking all the kids together in one team doesn't work as then the difference in pace and power is easily exposed. Sprinkling a few of them amongst senior team-mates on the other hand would be ideal for me

    e.g. something like...
    Doni
    Kelly-Skrtel-Coates-Enrique
    Suso-Lucas
    Sterling-Pacheco-Bellamy
    Carroll

with Coady, Wisdom, Ngoo etc on the bench for a cup game would give several kids starting experience, while still ensuring there is enough experience on the pitch to help them along and keep the team focused on getting a win

    ReplyDelete
  29. That is why the last few seasons have been particularly frustrating - we've been so far off of the pace in the league that we've been in ideal situations to give some of the kids game time without results really meaning anything, but instead we're left with them still having little to no experience of first team football.

Of course, it didn't help that Hodgson was attempting to systematically dismantle the top end of our reserves at any and every opportunity, leaving behind just a bunch of teenagers, but even then Dalglish could've given a few of them a chance while his senior players continued to let him down every week.

  30. It's impossible to step up to the next level if your manager never gives you a chance to do so. Whatever happens with Pacheco's career from here on in, that doesn't prove that he never had the talent to step up at all

    ReplyDelete
  31. I only saw the second half of that game, and tbh it wasn't one of Suso's better performances for me.
The guy clearly has talent though, and hopefully he and some of the other more gifted kids in our own ranks will be given a chance to step up, instead of us continuing to spend big on players who are no more talented but were just lucky enough to be given the chance to play first team football from a young age elsewhere.

  34. What, you think that just putting out a team entirely made up of reserves in the cups, and the likely losses that would follow, would be better for the development of our kids?

Or even worse are you suggesting that the kids should continue to just play reserve football for another season??

Whatever a 'rafflers' is, I sure hope that Rodgers hasn't got it either if it leads to either of those suggestions above being selected!

  35. Sterling has maintained a higher level of performance and produced more stand-out games than Suso over the last year or so.

The change in role for Suso is probably a major reason for that, but all the same...
