Serie A Champions Juventus continue to be linked with a summer move for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, and now, Napoli and Italy star Salvatori Bagni has fanned the flames of speculation by claiming that the Uruguayan is Juventus' 'number one' target.
In an interview with TMW on Tuesday, Bagni - who was part of Italy's 1986 World Cup squad - argued that Juve should sign both Suarez and Robin Van Persie:
"I think Luis Suarez and van Persie would be great for Juventus.
"They have different styles but they are players of great movement and skill.
"The Uruguayan striker is the top target, but they would both be a perfect fit with Antonio Conte's plans"
This is the second time in two weeks that a prominent ex-player has publicly urged Juve to move for Suarez. Speaking to Tuttosport recently, former-Juve and Uruguay star Daniel Fonseca - who won two league titles with Juventus in the mid-1990s - argued that the Italian club would be making a great choice by signing either of the two players, but added:
"Of the two, I'd prefer to see Luis Suarez go to Juventus. Suarez is more powerful and deadly [than Cavani]. Both have been proving themselves as lethal finishers in the area.
"Suarez would fit easily into the Juve system: he is a mobile forward with great goalscoring instincts. Juve should make a great effort to sign him. Uruguayans are always a success in Italy and the pressure of playing for a big team is not a burden."
With a conversion rate of 10% for Liverpool, I'm not sure Suarez could accurately be described as a 'lethal finisher' (!), but that description is definitely accurate when it comes to Suarez's form for Uruguay.
Juventus is probably an attractive proposition for Suarez, but a move seems unlikely, especially in light of Brendan Rodgers recent comments on the subject:
"I've had a brilliant chat with Luis. He's really looking forward to being here and we are obviously hoping that we can get him on to another new contract. He's really looking forward to the new season."
Actions speak louder than words, however, and you never know what might happen over the next month.

No chance of it happening this season anyway. Suarez may indeed look for other clubs next year if Liverpool don't progress. But I think we can rest assured that there won't be movement on this just yet.. Unless of course a silly amount of cash is offered. Everyone has a price eh?
ReplyDeleteO and how bad was Jose Enrique last night.. Looked so far off competitive pace, it was really worrying.
ReplyDeleteThe guy is definitely a lethal finisher, we saw glimpse's of this last season. I dont think Kenny got the best out of any one of his attacking players, Brendan will give them freedom to show there best!
ReplyDeleteCalm down junglove, only preseason!
ReplyDeleteHe's been bad since middle of last season. By the the way strong rumors Gaston Ramirez might be heading to Spurs.
ReplyDeleteJuventus don't have balls to buy anything for more than £10 million. Look at whom they bought and what price. Its all talks. They are not PSG.
ReplyDeleteThey had a good last season and they have almost replaced the whole squad now. It will be interesting to see next season. I guess they are going to derail themselves with so many new signings.
Because his agents in london don't mean he going to spurs. Everyone meets in london. Because its the capital and easier for people to get to. It could be liverpool watch this space.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I have a gut feeling it might be Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteI think for Liverpool Suarez had to do too much to get himself into goal scoring positions, usually wriggling through two or three defenders. For Uruguay He has a well functioning team beside him so it leaves him with less work to do to score.
ReplyDeletePlus I think he is better positioned on the right of a front three that's where a lot of his best play has come from
It is liverpool.. Neither spurs or inter want to pay his price tag...
ReplyDeleteHow do you know? Brendon denied he was a target. Besides the owners are pretty tight at the moment.
ReplyDeletehe was dreadful, looks like he's carrying on from second hald of last season.it's a big worry.
ReplyDeleteWhen has breden ever denied he not a target???? Show me I've never seen it. An the owners said they are not goner spend 50 million on one player... They goner be wiser... This guy value is 15-19 million...
ReplyDeletehe is very wasteful at times.
ReplyDeleteremember the chance against norwich where he tried to chip the keeper?
a natural goalscorer would have that buried in the back of the net.
i'd be surprised if juventus signed van persie and suarez.
ReplyDeletethere isn't that much money in the italian game.
milan want kaka on loan becaus ethey can't afford to buy him outrihght apparebtly and that's after selling 2 players to psg for around 50-60mil.
Hey Jaimie,
ReplyDeleteYou might know Villareal is relegated from La Liga.
As a result of that there is a mass exodus of players from that big club. Some of the big names still available for cheap are defender Cristián Zapata and striker Giuseppe Rossi.
What do you think about Zapata ? I think he can be a good replacement for Skertl (In case he goes).
He has played plenty as the main central striker for Uruguay and done a very good job at it. Yes, for Ajax he played on the wing well in the mighty Dutch league but he can and does play well through the middle. Just needs more support in the last third to make it a more in-sync attack for us but still no excuse for rubbish finishing. He was doing all that 'wriggling' for Ajax yet he scored aplenty at the end of it.
ReplyDeleteEven if Liverpool were willing to sell Suarez i just don't see how Juventus will afford Suarez because he would cost atleast around 35-40m.
ReplyDeleteFrom Liverpool's perspective getting into champions league spot will be of cardinal value if Liverpool want to keep player of his quality because Suarez is too good a player not to play in champions league.
Would love Rossi here but who knows whether he'll be able to pass a medical, as he does have a serious injury. A minor one would have been less complicating, I think, for a medical to be passed. The guy re-injured the same ligament in October, again in April.
ReplyDeleteTwo big operations in 8 months. Who knows how good he will be after recovering, as some players are never the same after such injuries. Has spent and will continue to spend a long time injured. Don't see him playing again in 2012. Wonder if any club will go for him whilst he is recovering from injury.
I think Suarez is the one player at the club that FSG won't let go easily just yet, unless its for silly money. I'm not a big fan of Suarez but I don't see the point in selling him just yet as he seems a good fit for Rodgers' style and if FSG have any ambition, they'd keep him for a while yet.
ReplyDeleteyeah i remember that but think it was down to mentality rather than his goalscoring ability. Dont think the Kenny instilled the right mentality in the squad, i doubt very much he would have done that with Brendan in charge.
ReplyDeleteThe other 3 in that game go a long way to that 'lethal finsiher tag'
Its all about mentality within the club and Kenny istilled the wrong one. I dont think under Rafa or Brendan he would have been wasteful or tried ridiculous shots like last season.
ReplyDeleteI very much doubt anyone at the club would have pulled him up on that ridiculous chipped shot he tried against Norwich after the game. Hat trick or not things like that need to be addressed or they keep carrying on.
I gurantee his goal to shot ratio will be almost double this season
Rossi and Borini share extremley similar attributes.......
ReplyDeletewe'll get to know soon...hope its liverpool...spurs have vdv and gylfi...
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't really cut it as a excuse for his poor finishing, for me. That is more poor than his finishing itself, the weak excuse.
ReplyDeleteIf he/his finishing is that easily affected by mentality, than that is very weak and a silly flaw to have to his game and character. That says more about him, than it does about the people you are trying to palm the blame off on.
Im not trying to palm the blame elsewhere. At the end of the day the blame lays with the manager which why they are held accountable at every club across the land. Suarez's finishing clearly is better than he showed last season and its down to the manager to get the bst out of thier players is is not?
ReplyDeleteThe mentality thing eqautes to the whole squad rather than just Suarez, just effects players in different ways.
'At the end of the day', when a player misses a chance, the blame lays with the player. He is the one that wears the boots when shooting, not the manager, not his team mates, not Evra, not Evra's hand, its him. I think its bemusing and weak, your excuse but shouldn't be surprised as some people worship Suarez. My initial point was that Suarez finishing was poor last season and the blame lays upon his head for that, no one else.
ReplyDeleteI'll leave it at that, as its starting to get repetitive from both and I don't see myself ever agreeing with your weak excuse for his poor finishing. Cheerio.
"remember the chance against norwich"? Mate, dont u got any other game to prove your point? He scored 3 awesome goals the same day that any striker would dream of... Yes he was wasteful at times but most of the occasions he creates the opportunity for himself.
ReplyDeleteThink he's talking about the game at home which we drew 1.1.
ReplyDeleteYou left it at that because you no you are wrong!
ReplyDeleteAgain someone who know's football but nothing about the game!
Good day :)
Don't see Juve being able to afford him.
ReplyDeleteIf you are a adult, I worry as that is some silly behaviour Stella. Take it on the chin, your opinion isn't factual or objective. Funny when people like you lord their opinions around like facts, insult people for having a different opinion and have the nerve to accuse someone of not knowing the game. Like it or not, people don't like to go around in cirlces, instead state their opinions and leave it at that. It is people like you that ruin forums with your big childish ego. That annoys me. Here is something for you, internet warrior: ':)' and 'cheerio'...oh and grow up.
ReplyDeletethey would probably have to fix their matches to afford him
