Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates scored a controversial goal for Uruguay on Sunday as the Copa America champions beat Peru 4-2 in a World Cup qualifier.
Luis Suarez also took part in the game, and the win means that Uruguay are now only a point behind Chile with a game in hand.
Coates scored his goal after 15 minutes, and although it's a lot less spectacular than his debut goal for Liverpool against QPR in March, it's probably much more important in the grand scheme of things.
The question is, did the ball cross the line?

ReplyDeleteDefenders clearance wasnt verticle and hit the underside of the bar so its a no brainer really... Goal!
ReplyDeleteOfficial Site : Coates nets first Uruguay goal.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool Kop : Sebastian Coates scores controversial phantom goal.
Compare and contrast.
MORE IMPORTANTLY - WHY WHY WHY ARE LFC NOT IN FOR NICK POWELL CREWE ??????????????????????????????????????????????????
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't a goal. The whole ball needs to cross the line. Do you people have bent eyes?
ReplyDeletewas a goal but seems like Suarez got the last touch..
ReplyDeleteYes... Yes we do, and they're looking at you sailor-boy ;)
ReplyDeletewhy phantom goal???????????? clearly a goal to me!!!!
ReplyDeleteOne sites goal is to bring the team up, the other is to brin it down.
ReplyDeleteIf you see the defender feet.... both are inside n the way he hit the ball. its a clear goal... no doubt.... would be more easy n not goal if he use his head...
ReplyDeletewell behind
ReplyDeleteanyone else think the whole 'goooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllll' thing has got extremely old and rather annoying!!
ReplyDeleteOne site is trying to bring the team up and shed a positive light on things.
ReplyDeleteThe other is hellbent on destroying the club with a constant stream of negativity.
Hmm.. So whats next? JK to go on a rampage in his campaign to accuse Coates for cheating because he celebrated for his "phantom" goal?
ReplyDeletecoates or rather the whole Uruguay team should be banned, they are celebrating a goal which wasn't, this means they are cheating and are conning the officials and fans.....
ReplyDeleteRight Jaimie!?
Or even an accusation of racism, because the commentator apparently referred to the opposition as 'Peru'.......
ReplyDeleteYes Uruquayans are cheats, ban them all, kick out all the cheats from South America, we of course in England have honest players who never cheat and never dive like Ashley Young
ReplyDeleteyes ball did cross the line without any doubt billy ur comments are crap
ReplyDeletemy reply was sarcastic as we condemn other countries but never our own, but sorry if you are not able to understand that wherever you are from
ReplyDeleteref said goal .... NUFF SAID!!!!

ReplyDeleteNot sure why Guest's comment was removed. It wasn't sniping, just ironic.
