Sigurdsson to Anfield? Liverpool fans give their emphatic verdict...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers recently hinted that Gylfi Sigurdsson could be his first signing of the summer. The Icelandic international also seems destined to end up at Liverpool, and with the departure last week of Dirk Kuyt, there's definitely a vacancy for another attacking midfielder. Do Reds fans want Sigurdsson at Anfield though?

£7m-rated Sigurdsson grabbed seven goals and three assists in seventeen starts for Swansea last season, and he's mad it clear he wants to stay in the Premier League:

"I expect not to stay at Swansea. My desire [is] to continue playing in the Premier League and Liverpool...is a big club that has a glorious history.

"English Premier League is the platform that I want to be [playing on] and hopefully I will continue to play in that division".

I conducted a survey on the site last week asking if fans would like to see Sigurdsson in a Liverpool shirt, and the results were emphatic:

* 7300 people (Approx) voted.

* 88% of participating fans voted YES to Sigurdsson's signing.

That's an emphatic result, and shows that Sigurdsson will have lots of fan-support if and when he moves to Anfield.

  3. I think he will be a fine addition.

  4. If he comes in will be a good player for the first team. Looks very good at delivering free kicks andfinal ball too. Stevie G can be retired from taking free kicks and corners that are usually wasted. Brandon may play him mostly on the right replacing Duracell battery Kuyt. We may have a player who has ball skills, pace and ability to go past a man, unlike some dross that were parading as first team regulars last season. Seem very much like the Juventus, Milos Krasic we are linked with.

  6. nice thats how you see the fans as children, I agree with the rest his age and his flare will be a fine addition that will only improve over time, can't wait to see the lad play

  7. Sigurdsson is quality. Don't know if I can say the same for Kalou and Krasic.

  8. Ok, hope we can sign a left winger and striker. That should make the team looks complete.

  9. I don't really agree with the rest of the 88% of fans, for me he looks average nothing exciting about him IMO but i could be wrong.
I don't think 7 mill is right but hey we paid a fortune for very average players last season, so we have to live with that from now on.
I just don't rate him as high as Rodgers does but he has seen more of him i, so we have to trust BR.

  10.  amazing results. you guys never cease to amaze. hala Madrid and hope Liverpool conquer the BPL next season....I am with you!!!

  11. But what exactly IS managerial expertise?

I suppose buying Henderson and Downing for 40M and leaving Kuyt and Maxi on the bench is what you are referring to.  Maybe it is you  who needs a RIP salute then?

  12. if you get siggurdsson  mark my words he is possibly one of the best young midfield players in the country at the moment especially from corners and free kicks and he will only get better,  it's just a shame that your prizing him away from my club swansea city. where he was on loan last season.
he has great vision and I think he can get 10 goals plus next season when he signs for you, just remember "some say that he's the best young midfielders in the country" others say he can hit a good dead ball,
all we know is he's called the "SIGG"

  13. This product is much better and cheaper then our current midfield who only know how to pass side n back.

  14. He's low cost, he's young, he has experience of the EPL and knows exactly what BR wants. he'd come with relatively little pressure, and could make the position behind the forwards his own.
selling adam and buying sigs, therefore not touching the transfer budget, would be perfect.

  15. fellas we need real talent and players with attitude, seriously i think he is average no better than Adam,(we need lorente or gaston ramirez, higuain ,jose callejon or granero ,affellay.confidence at anfield is really low and i think  with lucas , maxi n adam n bellamy set to feature next season all we need is a confident top class striker and midfielder .remember last season we had most possession and balls on target but our inability to put all those balls in the net cost us ...u will also remember how we finished so well last two seasons with  maxi kuyt. and how terrible hendo and downing have been but kenny kept playing them . at times i feel if kenny hadn't purchased hendo, downing and Andy we would have been better off, if we dont find game changers we shall remain a mid table team, confidence is real low at LFC.please fellas.

  17. you lot dont know a good footballer whem you see them--you need all the help you can get if you want to improve your midfield so dont knock skillful players--liverpools midfield is full of so called good engine players(the type sam allardyce likes)-cant pass water.brendon rogers will do a good job for you-he will make you the best team in liverpool next season

  18. sounds like sour grapes. He will become a legend if he signs

  20. Let's not forget that Charlie Adam looked great for Blackpool but when the chips are down he's nowhere near good enough for a top team.

  21. He looks promising, would be good to sign him, Tello and, now that it has been revealed he has a £17m(approx) buy out clause, Huntelaar as well.

BR is going to have a season of no expectations. I can't see FSG hitting him with the "Champions League or else" ultimatum like they did with Kenny. This is, therefore, the ideal time to bring through the best from the Academy and indoctrinate them in the way he wants the team to play so that you can have a system in place, and the players to implement it, for the next decade and beyond. The mancs did it almost 20 years ago, they won it with kids, why can't we? The likes of Suso, Sterling, Toni Silva, Coady, Morgan, Texiera etc should be integrated into the first team and played as much as possible to get them working as a unit with Suarez, Gerrard, Johnson, Carroll, Lucas, Shelvey & Henderson. We don't have to be held to ransom by other clubs now, we should just dip into the pool of talent from the Academy and build a team for the future out of it.

  22. while top clubs are getting top players or even chasing them we're chasing sigurdsson dempsey krasic hahahahah this is too funny, this club has no future at all, poor manager poor players poor owners, how embarrassing is that, lfc cant attract big players anymore, I fear this season will be the worst ever lfc had.

  23. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by this season.

  24. More like poor fans when it comes to the likes of you. Then again i doubt you are a Liverpool Supporter and more likely a Bitter or a Manc.

  25. It seems Rodgers is so intent on being seen as Mr Nice Guy in the football world Liverpool cannot begin to restock until Sigurdsson revisits Swansea and goes through the motions of saying "thanks but no thanks" to their offer. Mr Nice Guy has after all stated he is going to be his stellar signing.
I believe it's just his way of inviting a better option before moving to Liverpool. - Remember Xabi's replacement who went to Man City!
C'mon Rodgers you're in the big league now. - If you want a player go and get him, otherwise shut-up. Read about Bill Shankly whilst you dither and make up your mind. - At least you would gain from that.

Cannot believe that Sigurdsson is the rock on which to build 'The New Reds'. Swansea must be laughing their heads off at getting £7.0m for a tenderfoot and enabling them to employ Michael Laudrup instead.

There is still time to go to Spurs - we would happily bring in Harry in your place.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You'r having a laugh, right? Redknapp instead of Rodgers? I sincerely doubt many LFC fans would be up for that.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Look! Let's face it. We are not going to get 'Llorente, Ramirez or Higuain' at Liverpool. They will be at clubs in CL. So we have to look to pick up players who have potential to improve & develop at liverpool, players who have the DESIRE to play there. This coupled with good coaching methods will see LFC improve. Players who can't step up need to move on. ( i.e. Adam).

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well said Jaimie. I also think we have a manager who will get more from players & have players 'hungry' again. I also want to see the back of a few though.

    ReplyDelete
  29. You kidding? If we signed Sigurdsson and Dempsey, we'd have a truly amazing attack, either with Carroll or a new striker up front, Sigurdsson behind him, and Suarez and Dempsey on either flank - given the way Rodgers will have them playing, I believe our goal returns will skyrocket.

  30. I'm quite hopeful about this season, in terms of the progress I think we will show. Its a long term project I hope, this new chapter.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I sincerely believe more than 70% of lfc fans would welcomed redknapp as the new manager, his experience is way larger than rodgers, he knows whats like to manage a big club unlike rodgers, inst that true? I think rodgers is a huge gamble, harry would of been perfect for this club, lets hope he wont land a job before january or so because im totally convinced rodgers will get the sack at that time due to scandalous results.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wholeheartdly disagree! In terms of big club Tottenham is not one of them. Redknapp is tactially inept, hes record against the bigger team's is laughable.

Rodgers is the future and I for one am excited and more than happy for him to lead the club forward.

So what / who would you propose instead? I'm assuming from the tone of your post that you don't agree Sigurdsson would add to the squad.

I'm not saying you're wrong but I'd like to hear your actual opinion.

Maybe he won't make the step up, maybe he looked good in a team of players that we're all assuming are not as good as our squad (debatable though), maybe he'll drop off as he's only had half a season in the EPL a bit like Carroll. But... is there anyone better for the reported price, and that has already worked with Rodgers?

    Agree 100%. YNWA

  36. I really hope we get the lad. His movement and vision looked fantastic from those clips. I was on the fence until I seen that. He's got the same eye for a pass as Stevie has. Also, I would pick Rodgers over Redknapp any day of the week. I think most would agree as well!

    ReplyDelete
  37. liverpool should sgn him, for he is a crafty attacking midfeilder

    ReplyDelete
  38. In all honesty I hope he doesn't sign for you....because I know he is the real deal. As a Swansea supporter I hope we keep him for at least another year t secure our Premiership survival, then I wouldn't mind him moving on to Liverpool...but at least we get a profit, Liverpool get a player of real attacking ability for the future who knows Brendans game. Win win all round.

    ReplyDelete
  39. didn;t you say in a different post, that you would "walk away, while rodgers was at the club"???? why are you bothered what happens?

    ReplyDelete
  40. "scandalous"....that word represents harry down to a tee.

    ReplyDelete
  41. wasn't he only on loan with you?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Redknapp refused to accept a challenge for the title when Tottenham clearly had one of the best squads in the league. What makes you think that things would be any different at Liverpool??

I wanted somebody ambitious and with a little arrogance behind them, instead of an excuse maker. Redknapp is a good manager, but his ceiling is clearly below where Liverpool (should) aspire to reach.
