"Let me go" - €10m LFC target reveals Premier League "dream". Bid?

Last week, Kenyan star Victor Wanyama confirmed that Celtic had received 'many bids' for his services, but remained tight-lipped about a potential move to the Premier League. It's all change now though, as the 20-year old midfielder has given the strongest indication yet that a move could be on the cards this summer.

Wanyama's agent recently stated that the 21 year old wanted to play 'at the highest level', and in an interview with the Daily Record yesterday, Wanyama confirmed his desire to move to the Premier League. He said:

"I think the Premier League is the dream of so many players, so I'd be happy to play there.

"There are a lot of good clubs in England, and it would not be a terrible thing for me if the club agree to let me go, and they were to get a good offer.

"I'm proud I'm the first Kenyan to play in the UK and I'd be very happy to be the first Kenyan to play in the Premier League"

The Reds have been linked with Wanyama several times over the last month, and with Lucas Leiva the only dedicated first-team defensive midfielder at Liverpool right now, signing a back-up/competition must surely be on Brendan Rodgers' agenda right now.

€10m [£8m]-rated Wanyama cost Celtic less than £1m a year ago so if Liverpool go in for him, a transfer shouldn't be too difficult to conclude.

  1. Gutted to know Liverpool target Sigurdsson is going to Tottenham. Wake up Rogers.........

  2. I wouldn't believe that - it's just paper talk.  Why would Sigurdsson choose managerless Spurs over an LFC team run by a manager he respects?  Makes no sense.  I have no doubt he'll sign for LFC.

  3. money? if there offering 20 grand a week more anyone would think about it.... tbh not bothered either way if he comes fine but he doesnt excite me

  4. If sigurdsson decides to join Spurs instead of us then i guess it will be a huge blow to us in our chances of reaching top four. Feeling gutted that we still haven't concluded this deal. All our rivals the likes of Arsenal(already signed Podolski, Giroud); Man United (Kagawa) ; Chelsea (Marko Marin, Eden Hazard) have signed some key players. Looks like our chance of top four this season looks even more thinner as days passes bye.
No doubt i will support the manager fully fledged but i think we need to sort our weak positions fast. With us playin europa league we need our bench to be strong enough as well.

  5. Where is the 'let me leave!' part of his quote?

    The lad also said:

"It will be difficult to leave Celtic because I have just had a good
season here and we are now playing in the Champions League.

"Celtic are one of the biggest teams. I've been happy here, and the fans have been brilliant to me.

It's typical press-stirring of a non-story.  If the press ask him "would you like to play in the Premier league?" is he really going to say "no, never.  The standard is really low and nobody wants to play there".  Granted a transfer could happen, but then anything is possible. I would imagine one more season north of the border and then a move somewhere south.

  6. Its not a paper talk. His actually gone, Tottenham will announce within this week.

  7. It`s not a done deal yet, so I wouldn`t take much notice of media reports. Until we see him actually signing on the dotted line for any potential club, "and dont forget" Tottenham haven`t got a manager at the moment, so I tend not to think too much into these latest media reports.

  11. This is third time in two weeks that Wanyama has said that he's open to a PL move. His Agent has also stated - on his behalf - that Wanyama has asked Celtic to consider any offers from big clubs.

Wanyama is fanning the flames of this story himself.  He obviously wants to leave. Obviously, he's going to be respectful to his current club when he discusses the matter (!)

  12. As a Celtic fan, wanyama had a good season but lets see how he handles the champions league, its ok playing well against Kilmarnock and hearts, no disrespect to those clubs, but there are no easy teams in europe anymore, unless they come from scotland.
another good season up here and then he can move, just now he's still a one season wonder.

  13. If the spuds get sigurdsson it will just give me more reason to hate them. They have really been beating us in battles in recent years!

  14. Allnthe hype over possible players for LFC are all news fun! Let BR do his job

  15. This is the first time that Wanyama has said anything on the matter and I don't think it reads as a 'let me leave!' which was my original objection.  The first time the story was mentioned was complete speculation by the press (no quotes) and other time was agent talk (you believe them?).

  16. If Sugurdsson was that good he'd get into Hoffenheim team. Hoffenheim are not the biggest player in Germany so if he cannot get into their team and can only go to a small club like Swansea (and I mean absolutely no disrespect to Swansea whatsoever) and that there is no rush from other 'big' clubs, tells me that the boy is not that good anyway. I never understood LFC's fascination with him

    ReplyDelete
  17. I suspect sigurdsson agent has agreed terms with spurs. Whether he signs is another matter but it's a little disappointing he is prepared to even negotiate when originally it was touted he wanted to play for us.

  18. if we loose Sigurdsson it won't surprise me. Liverpool never does anything quickly. Rodgers has been trying to sign this player for a long time. I don't know what taking so fucking long. We have seen Arsenal sign two new strikers in the mean time. We have seen United sign Kagawa, we have seen Chelsea sign Eden Hazard and Marko Marin. All these signing are higher profile signings than Sigurdsson. These other players are higher up the totem pole than our transfer target is yet the other clubs were able to conduct their business and in a timely fashion. Love or hate the other big clubs you can't help respecting the way they do business. When Sir Alex or Arsene Wenger wants some one they go after them and get their man. If Rodgers couldn't close this deal then i will have my doubts that he is indeed the right man to lead Liverpool forward. He was a big fish in a small pond at Swansea and now he is a big fish in a big pond at Liverpool . I hope  he get's his act together.

Heard what i hope was also a rumor than Borini decided to stay with Roma. I could care about that rumor one way or the other because i am not really impressed by him anyway i think we could do better in the striker department. If the stories about the Sigurdsson and Borini both rumors then it is a wake up call from the media Rodgers to get his act together. Shit or get off the pot Rodgers.

  19. Couldn't agree more JK. Rogers man management is one of his strongest assets and Sig wants to work with him. Tottenham also not in Champions league, so really no reason he would choose them.

  20. If he wants to play at the highest level why would he go to Liverpool ?. Let's be honest they are a small fish in the big EPL pond nowadays .I hope he stays at the Tic for at least another year and get some European experience under his belt and then move on to one of the bigger European clubs !

BTW JK. A while back you posted an article about how crap we were at corners. I thought this a great article on corners, you may find it interesting reading.

  22. Did he whisper in your ears.

Your comment is as good as me saying that the world is gonne end tomorrow.

You need to have facts and proof.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Because he would be playing in a team with the 4th largest fan base in the world ... & he would NOT be playing at a much lower level with the 'tic'. Simple.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Waynama would be a good deal for Liverpool, although if that happens we all can say bye-bye to spearing!
Regarding Gylfi, this could be the agent stirring up news to get Liverpool to increase the contract offer. I would be quite surprised if Gylfi signs for Spurs.

    ReplyDelete
  25. To start with Celtic has a massive fan base world wide as i am sure you know , and your point is ?. You can only get 45000 into your place at any one time so again what is your point ?. All i am saying is why would he want to go to Liverpool and win nothing when he could stay with the Tic another year pick up a few medals , get European experience and then go to a big club that has a chance of silverware .

  26. Wanyama is still a kid but I have no doubt he would be a success in any league, good in the air strong in the tackle and also likes to have a go at goal. I hope he gives us another year, but if he leaves then I hope it's for Liverpool.

  28. Here's something for those who feel Siggurdsson signed for Tottenham:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gylfi_Sigur%C3%B0sson. In his "senior career" there's a mention of "Liverpool 2012-present". And whatever Wiki has posted till now, be it disclosing Rodger's appointment about 2-3 days in advance or Sacking of Dalglish, its never been wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  29. He had originally agreed to play for Swansea before the paper talk linked him with us instead.
What is good for the goose and all that...

  30. How can you say we are a small fish, ludicrous statement. Massive club, worldwide support, cup winners last year, in europe and financially strong. Your comments make no sense.

  31. duh....go to wiki n search for the player man...

  32. Doesn't it all smell like Liverpool is a mid-table team now. They have to sell before they can buy, and it is bloody obvious. Skertle, Agger and Suarez will all be sold and Rodgers will be given about 20 million pounds to buy some players and get some bosman players. Manure, Arse-nal and Chelski have all shown their intend with their purchases. They all want to catch up with Man City, next season and ensure they do not lose their Champion's League position. All the teams have one or two top top  players linked and these players are already doing their medical and have agreed terms. Meanwhile Liverpool have been linked with players that can form three teams and none of them is any closer to signing.

If the minimum target is a top four finish, how can a eighth placed team achieve it without any top purchase. Mansour City, Chelski, Ar-se and Manure, Spurs and Newcastle will all be having a good fight to secure the top four places. Depresses me that Liverpool is not even at the fight, so aiming for fourth place is going to be the joke of the season. Spurs will sell Modric and use the money to buy a couple of outstanding players. They have already got a head start on Siggurdson going by the rumours. With new manager Laudrup, they will be competing for a top four finish with a sustained challenge.

How do you expect Liverpool to get into the Champion's League without buying some outstanding talents? Word is out that Liverpool are bringing in Huntellar to replace Suarez. How does this improve the team. Suarez practically created all his seventeen goals last season. Huntellar does not create his goals. He needs someone to create form him and I can't see anyone at Liverpool doing that regularly. Anyone else filling depressed already?

  33. Kev i am not denying the fact you have a huge support . All i am saying is you support a team that is not as big as it was and i think this boy could do better . Maybe Man City , Bayern , Barca you know big teams.

  34. do u no that there is an agreement that liverpool cant sigh swansea players for a season.......just like u wont get wanyama for the 2/3 million u were saying 2 weeks ago..............u are a right good source of infromation u...........not. ya mug

  35. Since when did Celtic had massive fan base 'worldwide' ? LMAO

Are you talking about Local Scotsman living worldwide? lol

Get your facts right buddy,Celtic when compared to Liverpool is peanuts.

    ReplyDelete
  36. And my dads bigger than your dad . " Local Scotsman " what does that even mean ??. I think it's you that needs to get your facts right , both Liverpool and Celtic have massive wordwide support i think you will find, but both are now teams that wont win the big comps anymore . As i said the boy can do better than a mid table EPL team .

  40. Fair point although he agreed his move before the manager left which might be considered justification for changing his mind. Either way we need players who are desperate to play for the club, the manager and the supporters. If he doesn't tick those boxes and is tempted more by a bigger salary or bright lights then let THFC have him.

  41. I've checked the Hoffenheim website and there's no mention of any deal with Spurs, or indeed any deal with anyone. The Bild article is pure tabloid speculation, and if you read the article itself (I am fluent in German), it's structured as a purely speculatory Q&A exercise, with Bild asking and answering the questions.

  42. My point is if a European super league were formed tomorrow Liverpool would be in it. They remain a big club irrespective of the last 3 years. Remember since 2005 we have been in 2 champions league finals and 3 semi finals. Over the same period how many other big teams have the same or better records. A couple of poor seasons doesn't wipe out history which is why we are still a big club.
