Liverpool have a whole host of promising young attacking players being developed at Anfield right now, but Reds striker Craig Bellamy believes one particular youngster stands out from all the rest.
Bellamy recently toured Singapore to promote the club's new home kit, and during an interview, he was asked which Liverpool youngster had the most chance to succeed over the next few years. He said:
"There’s this boy called Raheem Sterling. Fingers crossed that if he can knuckle down and focus on his training, he can grow to become a real star".
A glowing recommendation, but reading between the lines, Bellamy seems to imply that Sterling needs to work harder in training in order to fulfill his potential.
Bellamy isn't the only one with high hopes for Sterling; fellow Welshman Ian Rush is a big fan of the youngster, as he revealed recently:
“There are a few young kids coming up. There is one young lad, Raheem Sterling. He is only 17. He is similar to Michael Owen at that age..."
I would love to see a creative flair player come through the youth set-up for a change, and Sterling looks like he has great potential. He's small, but so was Owen, and he made it. Let's hope Brendan Rodgers finds space for Sterling in the first team squad next season.

We bought him from QPR as a 15 year old so technically he hasnt come through the youth set up although we have nurtured him over the last few years.
ReplyDeleteHopefully his chance will come next year, possible candidate for WC 2014 Squad!??
everybody talks about Sterling, OK he is a good player, but there are 3 or 4 other lads that must be close to a chance at the first team, Cody,Morgan, jack Dunn,Silva, Ecclestone to name a few, one full back there but my point is we have some great youth players, wether they get a chance is another matter!
ReplyDeleteHeres hoping him and a few others come through the ranks, actually know Conor Coady and talked to him about some of our young reserves and said raheem's only major problem is when the going gets tough in a game he disappears completely said similar of suso, told me Jack robinson likes his ale too much and michael ngoo is one of the worst players he's ever seen, only rumours he'd heard of regarding transfers was that of sigurdson(not sure on spelling sorry) but will he'll know more info after the england under 19's tournament he flys out to next week... i asked him who he'd have transfer wise and he said he knows dempsey from fulham contract runs out next year and you could buy it out for 4million (his words not mine) with regards to himself he's been training with the liverpool boxer david price to build up his strength and had recently been to barca to see thier staff with pep segura and they've given him a programme to follow to build his core strength, he's got a good head on his shoulders and i really hope he breaks through as he's putting all the graft in thats required....ps he has a younger brother that also is signed to liverpool and he's the "dog's watsits" ive been told so remember you heard it here 1st harrison coady his name is btw
ReplyDeleteI am more excited about Suso and hoping both him and sterling get some opportunities this coming season
ReplyDeleteunder rafa woy and kenny the great kids we have never got a chance, people like henderson played all season and an awesome talent like sterling has only played 15-20 mins all the season, just how sad is that? Im looking forward to see how rodgers' strategy will be with these kids, is he gonna be same stupid like the past 3 managers we had? one thing is sure, sterling and suso must break into the first team this season, otherwise they will want to leave, like many others did before.
ReplyDeleteliver pool is in the europa league this season and i think he will play all 6 games there
ReplyDeletemy liverpool team for europa
doni
flannagan kelly coates robinson
maxi aqualani spearing sterling
suso morgan
Are you serious? You want to play Suso (AMC) and Morgan up front?
ReplyDeleteWow.
it will be good for the players to have first team European experience
ReplyDeleteone question... moli and morgan. what conor think bout him? btw, suso and sterling should be sold on loan 4 one year in a lower team where they could play with regularity and where tey can mature like players. sorry 4 my bad english, but i'm italian and everyone knows that italian don't know how to speak other lenguages (i'm lucky, i'm slowen too)
ReplyDeleteit would be great if these youngsters are exposed to high level games such as europa league and let the senior team members focus on league games
ReplyDeleteOnce again is KD prob..when certain player cant deliver wat he expected...Downing Kuyt Hendo...y not try use this kid...KD is too stubborn on his tactical (in flexible my P.O.V)...
ReplyDeleteE.g. L.Srz lack of support alway lure out so always of of position, A.Crl lack of Supply n too long distance for him to running into opponent...SDwn got pace but no target to deliver...Hendo too much tension scare to break in opponent as RM...
My POV: not 100 % d player prob...is tactical no utilize them...
Coady must be a real good mate then if you reveal how he bags everyone, something he must have told you in confidence. May be better to keep the mouth zipped than leave the poor lad with a reputation. Well done but at least you have big named yourself
ReplyDeleteKD?????
ReplyDeleteYou feeling alright Jamie, you actually posted an article with only a hint of negativity about Liverpool rather than a full blown assult. Im surprised you haven't written the kid off and tried to get everyone on a downer about him or the club.
ReplyDeleteWhat are you talking about? Kenny Dalglish was sacked a month ago.
ReplyDeleteGets on really well with morgan, thinks hes a great finisher poacher, their very good mates, i never spoke about moli im afraid sorry
ReplyDeletebags everyone.... lol whatever he just said its the one thing their lacking he also said they're both very talented but theyre weakness is they need to show that grit when things get tough which can be said about at least half of our 1st team.... a bit of honesty in our ranks would do the team good in my opinion hes captain he should tell them when he thinks their slacking... the only rep im giving him is hes a hard working lad who tells it as it is and someone id have in my 1st team instead of spearing who i thinks shit
ReplyDeleteI very much doubt Maxi, Aqualani, & Spearing will be here
ReplyDeleteat Xmas...along with Carra, Cole, Adam.....if they cannot sell
pay them orf.
If true what your saying, not sure Coady will tell you anything
ReplyDeleteelse,so you can tell the world.
Take it or leave it mate, some of these kids are just not quite ready yet....thats basically it
ReplyDeleteeven bellars says he has to knuckle down if you read the article has he got a reputation for it
ReplyDeleteIn an ideal world lfc sell- Adam, downing, spearing, maxi, aqualani, cole, Danny Wilson, re-invest in actual kwality first xi players like - jovetic, dzagoev, Christian Eriksen, gaston Ramirez, llorente, munain, Tello, jordi alba M'vila, moussa sissoko, for example. Then all substitutes positions go to our young players- suso, sterling, Morgan, coady etc. that way they get regular and frequent game time thought the season in the league, Europe and play the younger players in the capital one (lol) cup and fa. Cup. Simples lol
ReplyDeletemaxi and carra will see out his contract with carra taking up a coaching role
ReplyDeleteaqualani and cole most probably go but i would like them to stay
i think liverpool will only be able to get tello because he might not make it to the barca first squad from the list because most the others have CL football
ReplyDeletetello is very impressive first CL game he played he scored 2 goals after coming on as a sub
I'd hope we don't just seek to throw the Europa League away again. Most of our players now have little to no European experience, and just sending out a team of reserves to be given the run-around wouldn't do them any good either.
ReplyDeleteSold on loan? That's a contradiction if I've ever heard one, should they be sold or sent out on loan?
ReplyDeleteyour comment failed the moment you typed spearing..... not worthy enough to play for LFC
ReplyDeletei like this to be tactical tell me a CDM in liverpools youth ranks they have and ill gladly edit the comment if i can
ReplyDeleteCouldn't Coady do that roll?
ReplyDeletethen imagine coady there instead of spearing
ReplyDeletesterling also got 2 different girls pregnant in the space of a couple of months, and started to agitate for not being given any game time. as is the case with a lot of super talented players, they come with baggage.
ReplyDeletesterling plays very much like owen but on the left instead of centre. he doesn't finish like owen but the way he controls the ball and runs is almost exact.
everyone is going to get a chance under BR, but as BR has said, it all comes down to who is willing to sweat blood and tears to prove they want it. i can see players like henderson, carroll and coady revelling in the graft and raising thier game, but who knows how the super skillful players will like it.
A mix of youth and experience is the way forward. I wouldnt like to throw a team of youngsters into such a competition. Feel it could have a detrimental effect on there progress.
ReplyDeleteHopefully Maxi, Aqualani and Spearing aren't around in any case!
id rather have him in than sterling.... i think hed make an excellent ballplaying centreback which is why hes working on his strength
ReplyDeletei agree
ReplyDeleteNot a massive fan of Adam but looking at the stats for last season he was our most creative player with more assists than anyone. Don't you think we could give him one more year? He may yet turn into the player we want him to be.
ReplyDeleteHey y prick! Conor here. When did i meet u nugget? I'm sorry guys, this lad is badmouthing my name. Actually, there are 4-5 really good players in reserves who can make it to the 1st team, hopefully the coming season. And Sterling leads the race as he has done very well for england's youth team. It's not up to everyone to score such spectacular goals. And regardiing myself i'm hopeful i can follow spearing to the 1st team, maybe this season is mine.
ReplyDeleteCoady's quality is lacking, wont make it at LFC....
ReplyDeleteNot in a million years has Coady told you all this LeeEvans. Conor Coady may be young but he is being trained to be a professional and he will already be far too savvy to tell 'mates' like you that a fellow professional drinks too much and that another is the worst footballer he's ever seen. The real lee Evans is a cracking comedian, you're not even funny!
ReplyDeletethat is a mix of youth and experiance and why does everyone want maxi out of anfeild
ReplyDeleteBecause it only limits the chances of one of our promosing youngsters. If he isn't scoring he isn't doing ANYTHING! 15 goals in his time here says he wouldn't be a massive loss although I appreciate he's given us some great days.....
ReplyDeleteHave a little understanding. I bet his english is better than your english!!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever watched ngoo play.... if you had you'd agree
ReplyDeletei meant back then y KD dun use our young talent....coz his stubborn.....sack KD is a good move
ReplyDeleteHe will be a big player one day. I'm not going off it by claiming "next messi" or "new Ronaldinho", however I do think he's got the potential to be a Walcott or a Chamberlain. Suso is also a good shout, but no one has mentioned Jack Robinson!! I saw him play numerous times and honestly he will be great, mark my words. He's only 17-18 and he was originally used by Rafa against Hull a few seasons ago. More recently he played against Arsenal (Kenny told Wenger to piss off). He didn't look out of place at all. Give this kid some time in the Europa or Capital One Cup and he will perform.
ReplyDeleteAlso I'd sell Cole and keep Aquilani. Cole is (apparantley) earning anything from £80-£120,000 per week. Which is an absolute disgrace!!! He started well in France but went flat. Check his stats, he was SHIT. As for Aquaman, he's been treated like shit. He did well under Rafa, scoring against Atletico Madrid, and gaining a MOTM performance against Portsmouth. Spent last year at Milan, they had a good season however he had his best season at Juventus, they had to replace him when he left with Pirlo.
ReplyDeletewhats wrong playing an amc in a strikers position
ReplyDeletei used to do that in fifa 09-11 pairing gerrard with torres for teams that went ultra defensive and take more advantage of gerrards clinical finishing and powerful shots
and when i need to go defensive i use his hollywood passes L1+triangle to torres and 9/10 times i get a goal
FACE FACTS - Sterling nor any LFC youngster would make the Ajax or Lisbon teams who humiliated our kids last year - THEY ARE VASTLY OVERATED and reading between the lines Sreling needs to grow up - He is o k at best
ReplyDeleteLove the Fifa analysis..... Are you next in after Comoli??
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to bleat on about how good players are but they all have weaknesses. And, until they can iron out those weaknesses, they'll never get better.
ReplyDeleteWhen Gerrard played in the hole behind Torress, their striking partnership was the most fruitful in the club's history.
ReplyDeleteapart from recording the actual conversation i cant actually prove it can i but im more than happy to post the pictures of him with my daughter or signed shirt he gave me, the lad loves liverpool and wants more than anything for the club to succeed sounds to me like you can't handle the truth
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be pretty tough to live up to the hype building around Sterling. That is why I believe it is so important to bring in some actual quality on the wings that he can follow through, instead of fans expecting him to instantly come in and be our match-winner because his senior counterparts are so underwhelming - having Suarez, Johnson, Sturridge & Elia as our wide forwards would allow Sterling to come through at a natural pace over the next few years, which would be good for him and for the club. Otherwise expectations could just lead to him being derided as a flop by the time he's reached 19!
ReplyDeleteLee seriously delete these comments. From
ReplyDeleteSomeone actually looking out for Conor's best interest.
Lee Evans ... Delete these comments. From someone actually looking after conors best interest!!
