New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is renowned for his progressive football philosophy and insistence on playing the beautiful game the right way, and Reds fans will be hoping he can replicate Swansea's style of football at Anfield. With only four years of management experience behind him, Rodgers is not the most experienced of managers, but that is offset by almost 20 years of coaching experience, including a stint at Chelsea, where he learned from the likes of Jose Mourinho. How has Rodgers fared in his managerial career to date? Here are his complete managerial statistics.
I've compiled these stats purely for information purposes; they're not available in this format anywhere else, and I did the same after the appointments of Rafa Benitez, Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish.
Brendan Rodgers: Total Career Stats
Rodgers will really need to up his game to improve on the above stats, specifically:
* Averaged 1.2 points per league game (PPG) with Swansea last season; Liverpool managed 1.5 PPG last season, and to get into the top four, Rodgers will need to achieve at least 1.8 PPG
* Every one of Rodgers' teams has a history of leaking goals. His teams concede an average of 1.3 goals per game (GPG), and Swansea ended last season with a negative goal difference and an average of 1.4 Goals conceded per game.
* Overall, the stats suggest that Rodgers' teams are not the greatest defensively. Alongside the high goals conceded ratio, there is only a 4 game differential between games won overall (61) and games lost (57).
The stats are revealing on a number of fronts, but at Liverpool, Rodgers will have better players (particularly defensively), and more money to spend, which means he'll be able to buy a higher quality of player.
Just to be clear: In my view, Rodgers is an excellent choice to manage Liverpool; he has all the attributes to be a long-term success at Anfield, and as I've stated many times already, I'm excited about the upcoming season.

Hope we can conquer Europe once more. That moment is better than winning the premier league.
ReplyDeleteonly 2 had more than 50% possession against swansea last year and that was wigan because swansea was down to 10 men and manchester united because they had to win to keep there title hopes alive
ReplyDeletelfc have never won the premier league so a comparison is a hard to make.bring back the old first division.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that any supporter can look at those stats and think this guy is even close to being qualified to manage Liverpool is an absolute joke... I'm predicting an 8th to 10th place finish this season..
ReplyDeletewell done jammie, I thought you had become positive lately, keep digging and keep your comments as negetive as you can
ReplyDeleteKeep it nice and positive why don't you! Lets just wait and see,he can't do any worse than KK who by way was a Legend as a footballer but didn't quite make that status as a manager.Time will tell, meanwhile BR will have my backing.YNWA
ReplyDeleteLets hope that Rodgers signs some decent creative and pacey attackers so he can implement his style and we can move away from wishy-washy inconsistent performances and string together decent 4 game winning runs instead of WLDDWWLLDWLD etc
ReplyDeleteediting comments again I SEE
ReplyDeleteepl and 1st division. same teams no difference just less games and 3 pts instead of 2 for a win .what is your point..
ReplyDeleteI think you may have forgotten his title wins and specifically double win as a player manager!
ReplyDeleteHi jaimie, been reading all about you on **** I can't believe people dislike you so much. What a joke. For the record I took it all with a pinch of salt. One question though. Were you really liasing with Tom hicks and were they feeding you non public information? Also in light of what Christian Purslow said about us being one day from administration I think you should admit that you were wrong about them.
ReplyDeleteTime will tell if he was the right choice.
ReplyDeleteHopefully at bigger club with different and bigger resources, he will be able to balance the home and away performances because at Swansea, their home performances were great generally but away performances, they struggled to impose their ethos. Not expecting immediate results and willing to be patient, especially if there is signs of promise but the minimum is to make Anfield a formidable fortress next season in both defensive and attacking aspects. As the user above said, 'time will tell'.
ReplyDeleteand so it begins .......... before rogers has even selected his first team for lfc........he must up his game. The criticism begins .......Veiled but its there
ReplyDeleteIf you post any more sniping posts like this, you will be banned. You conveniently ignore all the positive stuff I said in the article. The tagline of this site is 'critical realism about LFC' - Just because we have a new manager doesn't mean he's exempt from that. The points I've made are valid; if you disagree, state your case; don't snipe, or don't bother at all.
ReplyDeleteRodger's approach will take time to show consistent results at Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteSo the stats may look bad for a while. I am prepared to wait, it is our only way back to the top.
The model to break into the elite of Premier League is to splurge money like there's no tomorrow, with seemingly no requirement to run clubs like proper businesses.
Financial Fair Play will hopefully resolve this and we will have built a playing strategy in the mould of Spain and Barca, a winning strategy....
dont you do everything anonymously as well JK because of the controversial nature of your comments you disguise your identity as well. I wouldnt condone any threats made against anybody particularly were threats are made against family and minors but until the law is changed we have to put up with internet idiots. I hope the laws are changed so that it is easier to find and identify people who make defamatory comments about people or organisations
ReplyDeleteHow do I anything anonymously? I post my name after every article; it's my real name - how is that disguising my identity?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Simon. I think you will talk me around on the cheating issue...when hell freezes over ;-D
ReplyDeleteI stumbled across the other site while googling jaime kanwar becasue of new pc and no bookmark, surprised to see this was not at the top of google
ReplyDeleteJaimie, I think I know the site that you are talking about. You should continue to do what is right by giving objective views on LFC. As for threats posed to you and family, please refer them to the authorities. I'm sure there are enough for the authorities to take serious actions.
ReplyDeleteYes, I can't wait for the financial fair play thing to happen though it might be easier said than done.
ReplyDeleteThanks
ReplyDeleteI never said there was anything wrong with you liaising with Hicks. Won't ever visit again don't worry, as I said, i stumbled upon it
To be fair to BR, he was a fledgling manager at a small club, so of course his stats aren't going to be that great. At least his W column is higher than his L column. His philosophy will suit LFC as Kenny had us playing good football last season and the players are used to pass & move. I thin BR is going to take that to the next level and we'll see the right results on the board this season. Andy Carroll is going ot be fit at the start of next season and, if he can bang another goal or two in at the Euros, then his confidence will be sky high.
ReplyDeleteBe realistic....BdRgr is not god...his pace n passing philosophy aka modern football may not suit LIV current team...he need time to get rid n recruit...
ReplyDeleteMY POV : if we losing or playing bad b4 winter buys...as fans try dont give too much pressure to d team...he need time to see str of his player against opponent not during training with bunch of previous mgr flop....
I've been critical of your writing many times since I started reading this site, but I just want to say, nobody deserves to have their family treated in such a way. I can only hope the culprit is stopped. Anyway, I am (for once) in agreeance with you with this article. Rodgers will have to step up but so will the players, as Rodgers said, and I think this is a brilliant phrase: "when you
ReplyDeletecome to a club like this the shirt weighs much heavier than any other" Aslong as the players can pick the performances up I see no reason why we can't have a good season.
Joe Allen had most passes completed not only in epl but anywhere in the world, beating someone like Xavi.
