Agent: £12m 30-goal LFC target is 'perfect' for the Premier League. Sign him?

Despite scoring an impressive 30 goals last season, FC Twente striker Luuk De Jong spent Holland's ill-fated Euro 2012 campaign warming the bench, watching on as his countrymen capitulated in the group stage. Failure to get any pitch time will probably be a personal disappointment for De Jong, but he can console himself with the knowledge that a move to one of Europe's top clubs seems to be edging closer.

Last week, Louis Laros - De Jong's Agent - invited Europe's top clubs to put in offers for the prolific striker, and last night, Laros provided an update on the transfer situation. He said:

"There has been a lot of clubs from all over Europe showing interest. More than five or six. He would be the perfect fit for the Premier League. Now the most important thing is to find the right club for Luuk, which is what we will do."

Worrying for Liverpool, Laros also confirmed that Newcastle have expressed interest in signing De Jong, with reports alleging that the Magpies had put in a £12m bid.

£12m? At that price, surely Liverpool should be pulling out the stops to sign the player? The club needs a goalscorer, and to be honest, I would take De Jong over Fabio Borini, mainly because of the Dutch striker's prolific strike rate.

In May, Laros confirmed that Liverpool were 'closely following' De Jong, a player who Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert believes will become "the No.1 striker for Holland in the very near future"

Let's hope LFC are still 'closely following' the player...

  1. I'm not sure that I'd take him over Borini. We all know that goal scoring in the Dutch league does not equate to goal scoring in the Premier League. Borini had a 50% strike rate for Swansea in the Championship and then a bit better than 1/3 for Roma. That's solid.

Not to mention that he's a known quantity for Rodgers who has worked with him at Chelsea and Swansea.

de Jong definitely looks like a good prospect but I don't think he's head and shoulders above Borini and therefore I'd rather trust the manager on this one.

  2. I disagree. 15m euros on borini or the same on de Jong. I'd have de Jong all day long. What about matias Suarez? He has an impressive record albeit in the Belgium league. Players have got to start somewhere , so it's prob hard to gauge who would fair better in the prem?

  3. We need quality and we need numbers. We are going to end up playing probably 60 games this season. So either or i just hope they work out

  4. i will like to have DE JONG and BORINI including MILO KRASIK in our new season campaign and am worried why Rodgers uptill now he has'nt sign any player when other clubs are busy buying new faces into their club but we still continue reading in the website about Lfc going for so many players every day pls this is not what we want in these coming season.

  5. It's interesting to put in our two cents but I do always say that we trust the manager and what he comes up with. If he signs De Jong or Borini, it will hopefully be his choice of player and if it is then you'd have to think he knows what he's doing. Anything that we or any other fan can see with regards a player, a manager like Rodgers and his team of staff have about 1000 times more information. And maybe it's just not going to be a choice at all. In these situations you make your shortlist of players and then just do your best. If they don't want to play here then you forget about them. With no CL football we're not always going to get our pick.

Sometimes I wish managers would be a bit more forthcoming with the information they have on players after they make a signing. There is no doubt that by the time a contract is complete the manager and scouts together could write a book on the player, but in the end the most we get is "he's a good lad and we have high hopes for him". There is so much that goes into analysis these days, I think it's a shame that managers need to be relatively secretive about the whole thing.

  6. De Jong is fine talent. He would compete with Andy for place. This 2 hungry young strikers could guarantee us 30 goals combined, which is ok.  Krasic if come will provide asissts from right wing,as he is ortodox right winger,no playmaker or leftsided. Barnetta is free agent and he played with Sami,we must use it.

  7. If the reported £30Mill transfer fund is true, could we not go for both?
I mean, most top teams have mor than one striker, and more than one set of options to change a game. Our approach play was fine last year, and in the majority of games the standard of play was good - all we needed was an out-and-out goalscorer. So why not buy 2? And keep Carroll for games when we need a target man or someone to hold the ball up.  Or against Stoke...If we do get Sigurdsson, then that provides a few goals from midfield (as Maxi seems destined to be overlooked), Aquilani's possible return provides some much-needed guile and creativity for the Home games, and Cole could do a job on the wing. Henderson will improve and we seem to have adequate cover at full-back and central defensive positions, so no strengthening is required there.

And if Reina decides to pull his finger out of his arse this season, we still have one of the best goalies in the league.

  8. Liverpool's midfield and wings are populated by wannabes, hasbeens and  never-wii-bes. Lucas has to recover from his injury and Gerrard can't go on forever. This is where Liverpool need to spend, not take a punt at an unproven striker from a declining league.

  9. A new top striker is a must and De Jong or Huntelaar is good choice.BR should try to offload Carrol otherwise use him to clean Suarez and De Jong' boots...

  10. Don't you think your being a bit harsh? Yes Carroll wasn't worth the 35 million but it's not his fault the club payed that for him, so no need to blast him every given second. and towards the end of the season he started to show signs of what his true potential really is, scoring in the F.A cup semi-final and final. I think De Jong is better, but no need to bash on Carroll, its not his fault that Dalglish over paid for him

  11. Your a idiot. Carroll is getting better each game.just need better crosses for him to get onto. Je jong scored that much in the dutch league. Players who come from their don't really set the premierleague alight... Neither player excite me tbh... Rather go after doubia would be better :)

  12. De Jong the next Holland #1? Only if Huntelaar decides to play for a different country. Give me the pace and touch of Borini (better celebration too). Gaston Ramirez is still my #1love target though.

  13. Suarez came from the dutch league and Huntellar moved to german League and was a success last season. What we need to see is if the player has technical skills, pace, game intelligence and if he is going to make the team better than what we have. In that respect we see that De Jong has all the qualities and his price will be cheaper as he is not a first team player with Holland. Like wise Borini is another player whom the manager has worked with before and is an up and coming sriker with pace and skills. So now it has to be left with the manager to decide as both will cost about the same price.

  14. kuyt had a scoring goal of 1.1 goals per game and suarez had 46 goals in 48 games both of them havent exactly been prolific in England

  15. also the reason why luk de jong didnt play for holland because is because van persie and huntelar scored more goals in a harder league

how many crosses did caroll get from downing?or even from henderson?and you still blame him for nor scoring?we need effective wingers to supply him!maybe you didnt notice, every england supporter (even from man u,man c,chelsea or arsenal)were hailing him after world class header for england my friend.he is now finding his boots.look at torres nowadays

  18. LFC should offload Henderson not carrol.Carrol is lacking supply otherwise lets give him time.B R shd go for Adam.he is a good lad

  19. Good comments mate. I think we've got more chance of getting Borini - and I'll trust Rodgers to get the players he feels will compliment the style he will try and implement. Sigurdsson and Borini look nailed on and will be a good start - young stacking quality. Dead right bout the dutch league; for every RVP there are 10 Kezmans!

  20. LFC needs to spend investing in an attacking midfielder and a proven goal scorer, dont think caroll can fit the managers style of football

  21. I'd really love to be proven wrong...TBH.I think BR is a lot smarter than KD.

  22. Your a idiot aswell. Henderson is a young english talent. He is getting better aswell he will learn from gerrard.

  23. And his you tube compilation is not really impressive, I mean he scores but it doesn't really look he has to work for it a lot.

I like Matias Suarez more, he seems to have skills as well as decent goal scoring record and good assist record too.
Probably would cost less and be more able to adapt to play in wing position if needs be.

  24. Liverpool have an English las in Carrol as their 35m striker so they will do all that they can to nuture his talent at 23 years old.  De Jong is about Carrol's age.  Borini @ 21 will give the competition required that wouldn't upset the striking squad too much, he has that extra bit of potential and above all else, Brendan Rodgers trusts and knows the player to work in his system.  I think Borini would be fine.

  25. Sorry but you're wrong Williams, NOBODY has signed anyone yet. The transfer window opens on 1st July, everything that happens before then is people agreeing deals some of the time and big fat rumours most of the time! The Liverpool way is not to comment on rumours but to issue a press release when we have something to say. All the prattle about 'they've got de Jong and we've got nobody' is just nonsense. We will make the signings that BR thinks are right for our team and the way he wants them to play. I can tell you one thing for a fact: no big deals will be done until the Euros are over as the top players are involved and won't do any club deals until their national team is out. Behind the scenes BR and the rest at the club are doing plenty of talking. Just wait and see :0)

  26. Just wonder how much money do we have this season? Do we need to sell before we buy?
