CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia is once again linked with a move to Liverpool FC, and according to his latest comments, it looks like the prolific Ivory Coast International will consider a move to the Premier League this summer.
Speaking to Reporters a few days ago, Doumbia - who finished as top-scorer in the Russian top flight with 32 goals - confirmed that he was thinking about moving on.
"I'm...willing to go to Spain or to England, the top leagues. I'd certainly be taking a leap forward in my career".
There's one snag: Doumbia also admitted that he'd like to play in the Champions League, a competition that 'fascinates' him, and that would appear to rule out Liverpool.
However, the influence of a new manager - whoever that may turn out to be - could be a decisive factor in convincing players like Doumbia to come to Anfield.
According to The Daily Mail, CSKA have put a £26m buy-out clause in Doumbia's contract but his representatives 'are hopeful that can be reduced'.
£26m is vastly overpriced IMO, especially for a striker whose only top-level experience is in the Russian league; but with 32 goals, Doumbia is definitely a goalscorer, and for the right price, that's exactly what Liverpool need.

In the Russian league he is but what about in EPL? We don't have that much money to risk excess of £20M on ONE player as well!
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen anything of this guy but it seems like a lot of money. I would like to think if we was gonna buy someone at that price we could go for somebody like Soldado who has scored goals in a top league. Or failing that De Jong who could be a cheaper option.
ReplyDeleteWell let leave the decision to our upcoming manager.
ReplyDeleteJordan Henderson , seems silly not to give the lad a go . No lose situation could be a real diamond if not lower league club would take him like a shot
ReplyDeleteLooks like he'd be a great partner for Suarez. 32 in Russia, that could convert into 20 in the Prem, £26 million for 20 league goals a season would represent good value in todays market. Looks very much Drogba like, and we definitely need some steel in the side.
ReplyDeleteNo Money No Manager No Director of Football No Seydou Doumbia.Last prolific striker to come out Russia was a bloke called Jo.
ReplyDeletegive him a go at what
ReplyDelete20 m is the whole kitty isnt it rest of the money has to be self generated.
ReplyDeleteLFC need another striker thats a fact, but most imortant is midfield. Gerard is not in his top form as we used to see him on the pitch ,how LFC will find another G. that is the problem THE man who create goals and scores . Liverpool will never find another S.G at list mot for 20 years.
ReplyDeleteIs that true? I haven't seen that anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteRhodes I meant
ReplyDeletethere are two strikers that could of been bought in January for a combined total of 15m ie Jelavic and Cisse. Also a Russian Pogrebynak who didnt cost an arm and a leg who scored a few too for Fulham.
ReplyDeleteI can see John Henry now ringing up whoever is left at Anfield at the moment, hey guy them three relegated teams see if you can snap up a few of them for nothing, Wolves have a guy called Karl Henry you can sign him for starters as I like his surname. Bolton have a guy called Eagles that is a great name Eagle the national symbol of the good old USA.
And oh by the way next time I come over which will probably be the week before Christmas can we get a franchise for Papa Johns Pizza going as Mrs Henry is partial to their slimline thin and crispy pepperoni.
Looks like a half decent player, has pace to burn obvisously knows where the back of the net is, the price is a bit high but we paid a lot for average players so why not, 15 mill would be better.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how old he is?
I really can't see us buying anyone till they organize a manager, then i think he would want to bring in whoever he wants, but he looks good and he looks tough.
Isn't someone else looking at him as well from the EPL, i'm pretty sure i read it some where?
have read it in a few internet sites and papers, selling Aquilani and Cole will help generate more cash too.
ReplyDeleteDid Suarez 48 goals in Holland convert to 20 in England? Shocking assessment!
ReplyDeleteDon't we need a new mngr first and than by players. At 26 million I'd rather have Fernando Torres back, thanks.
ReplyDeleteyes good shout I have said here before to go for Rhodes, other bargains are Junior Hoilett and Matt Phillips.
ReplyDeleteRather have Victor Anichebe
ReplyDeleteDoubt we'll make any money on Cole though, we may even end up having to supplement his wages as part of an agreement. :(
ReplyDelete£18m sounds about right.
ReplyDeleteOh really. You'd make a good mngr.Is shame that Hodgson didn't call u as his assistant cos he liked to buy rubbish like Anichebe( Poulsen, Konchesky).
ReplyDeleteDon't know much about him but that does sound like a heck of a lot of money.
ReplyDeleteOh really. You'd make a good mngr. shame Hodgson didn't call u to b his assistant cos he liked to buy rubbish like Anichebe( Poulsen, Konchesky).
ReplyDeleteGood prospect, but he could end up as the next Jo if we're unlucky and the next Vagner Love if we are slightly less unlucky.
ReplyDeleteBring Torres back for 18-20 mln, sign Hoilett from Blackburn and Diame from Wigan and may be on more Defender if the bugdet allows .
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've seen of him, Doumbia isn't like Drogba at all - more like Papiss Cisse as a goalscorer with a little bit of skill that looks to shoot at every opportunity, rather than a power target man
ReplyDeleteSuarez will score a lot more with better players around him - I still haven't given up on his goal-scoring ability
ReplyDeleteBuy-out clauses are designed to be prohibitive and are rarely paid. I doubt Doumbia would cost any more than £15m, and I expect he'd be well worth that, plus a lot more.
ReplyDeleteGetting in some quality widemen that can actually beat a man in the final third is more important to me though.
Johnson, Elia, Affelay, Hoillett, Quaresma etc - we desperately need two more quality flair players still, as Downing clearly isn't going to lead the team to glory.
chill out lad I wouldnt sign Anichebe if he was the last striker on earth
ReplyDeleteQuaresma!
