AC Milan or LFC? £18m outcast provides an update on his future...

Injury-prone midfielder Alberto Aquilani was expected to secure a permanent deal with AC Milan at the end of this season, but it now appears that he could be on his way back to Anfield. In a recent poll on this site, 68% of the 5000 fans who took part voted for an Aquilani return. Milan finished the season 2nd in Serie A, boking a place in next season's Champions League in the process, and after the game, Aquilani provided an update on his immediate future.

Speaking to Milan TV last night, the Italian International admitted that it was an 'emotional' day, and that he was 'proud' to have been part of the Milan team. On the subject of a return to Liverpool, he added:

"My future? There's still a chance [to stay at Milan] - the door is still half-open, so we'll see what happens".

Last week, the player's Agent, Franco Zavaglia, admitted that he was unsure whether Milan would make the midfielder's deal permanent, and Kenny Dalglish said something similar in a press conference.

Aquilani has not played enough games to automatically trigger the buy-out clause in his contract, and with only 1 goal in the last 22 appearances, he hasn't really made a strong case for a permanent deal.

Aquilani is a quality player but he's just too injury prone, and if he returned to the Premier League - a more physical league than Serie A - he would inevitably get injured again at some point.

  3. As you say, Aquilani is a quality player, but being injury-prone is not the only reason to offload him. Equally important is the fact that he seems to favour playing in Italy over playing for Liverpool. If he's not motivated, he is of no value to Liverpool.

  8. If he really has gone, which I haven't heard anything of. Martinez, Capello, Flores or Rikjaard. Not Rafa, I can't take a return of the dull defensive football where he won't give a striker playing time because he doesn't defend well enough. Look to the future and stop living in the past.

  9. Aqualani doesn't want to play for us. If he doesn't want to play then he's not gonna give everything for the cause. Sell him and put the money towards Benega or Sissoko.

  11. Aqua was injury prone. Not anymore. AC Milan mostly didn't play him because of his auto buy clause. I for one would love for him to come back. He could be our Modric.

  12. Mr J Kanwar can you confirm that the King has resigned, what a sad chapter because he was supposed to be fired because he will never return again .But I used to fancy the King a lot.If it is true its in owners hand to appoint proven Manger rather than to experiment with news of Wigan Boss, those average managers of average teams.

  15. I reckon it could just be AC Milan doing what the Italian clubs are best at. Trying to get the best possible deal they can by paying under the odds. After Juventus, he should never have gone out on loan again, to be honest. Next season it should be permanent deal or he goes nowhere. He'll soon be on a bosman and he would have spent more time away from the club than at the club.

  16. Milan asked for Aquillani because they wanted someone to replace Pirlo who left on bossman as Milan offered to renew his contract for only 1 yr, Juventus offered him 3 yr deal and more money .
Now Milan got Montoliva from Fiorentina for free-on Bossman .They have no need for Aquillani.
Italian clubs always look for free lunch and love free transfers.

Zulu he didn't want to play for us because he wasn't getting any games. He had to compete against Mueriellis, Lucas, Adams, Henderson. Kenny went with his guys he had brought in so Alberto had to leave. If he get's playing time and stays injury free he could be the string puller we have missed in midfield . That player with eyes behind his head capable of making that killer pass
