Kenny Dalglish and Steve Clarke made a flying visit to the Stadium Municipal in France last month to watch Montpelier beat Toulouse 1-0. According to Reports, the Liverpool pair were there to watch Montpelier striker Oliver Giroud, and despite talking up a move to Bayern Munich recently, the French striker has revealed he would love to play in the Premier League.
Liverpool have been linked with Giroud several times over the last couple of months, and in April, he said that he was 'obsessed' with English football.
This week, in an interview with Telefoot, the striker once again talked up the possibility of moving to the Premier League.
"I do not know yet what I'll do next season, if I leave or stay in Montpellier, but English clubs make me dream, and the Premier League makes me dream".
Giroud - who has scored 33 goals and assists for Montpellier this season - also made it clear that his next move will be motivated solely by football:
"Money is not a motivation in my career. I make strategic choices of a sporting point of view."
Giroud is coveted across Europe, and in an interview with Canal+ recently, Zinedine Zidane - who is Real Madrid's Director of Football - was full of praise for the player:
"The entire [Montpelier] team is good, but Giroud [is] doing extraordinary things."
Montpellier owner Louis Nicollin recently slapped an outrageously inflated pice-tag of £40m on the the Frenchman, but that is clearly just wishful thinking.
With Liverpool slumming it in the Europa League next season, Anfield may not be the most enticing destination for Giroud. However, depending on what happens over the next few days, if Liverpool get a new manager, things could change. Liverpool may yet become an attractive destination for Europe's top players...

cavani for 30 mill is better option for any club, rather the two bit french money grabbing cunts
ReplyDeleteif he makes his decision for sporting choices and has lots of options doubt he would choose us atm
ReplyDeletewe have to stop dreaming about 'top' players. we are a mid table outfit with a manager who would not get a job anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteNever gonna happen... The most we can expect is Darren Bent...
ReplyDeleteHey don't laugh i would have taken Bent over Carroll this season.
ReplyDeleteAccording to some, they are not splashing out any money this year
ReplyDeleteIf they are looking to push out Higuain (crazy I know!), there would be space.
ReplyDelete40 million? That a whole lot of BS
ReplyDeleteCant see this happening as he will have an offer from a club in a position to offer him champions league football and the 40 million evaluation is a joke, look's a descent player but will we have them type finances in the summer..?? I'd doubt it after last summer's addition's. Another point worth making about buying players would be 2 buy before the Euro's as if an individual has an exceptional tournament his price will increase considerably, so get the finger out and bring these players who we badly need asap!!!!
ReplyDeleteHe would be a huge improvement, he moves well can score with everything head and feet seems quick, the price tag is a bit high even if they are wishing. For that money i would like Belhanda and he would probably less.
ReplyDeletewelcome 2 liverpool
ReplyDeletewe need young manager to take us forward, pep would be excellent but its a big ask, should try though and maybe the likes of avb, joachim lowe, dechamp, blank, and rafa
ReplyDelete.
