€15m 30-goal LFC target admits: I'm 'ready' to leave. Sign him ASAP!

The Agent of Luuk De Jong recently confirmed that Liverpool are 'closely following' the FC Twente star, and this week, the Dutch youngster - who has scored 30 goals for Twente this season - made it clear once again that he is open to a move abroad this summer.

De Jong has been linked with Liverpool several times in the past year, and last month, Louis Laros - the player's agent - indicated that a potential transfer 'could happen in the summer, after the European Championship'.

De Jong - who is rated in the €15m range - admitted in the past that he wants to play in the Premier League, and in an interview with De Telegraaf a couple of days ago, the coveted striker reiterated that he's open to a move away from Holland:

"If something interesting comes up, I will either leave, or think seriously about it. I've developed well and I feel ready to make a next step if the opportunity arises".

Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert, Steve McClaren’s No.2 at FC Twente, has high hopes for De Jong, and when asked about his potential, he raved:

"Luuk [de Jong] is going to be the No.1 striker for Holland in the very near future. He has everything a striker needs. Here at FC Twente we are grooming him for a future with one of Europe’s biggest clubs. He can become a European giant"

In my view, Liverpool should make De Jong a priority transfer. If he's available for such a comparatively cheap price, where's the risk? After losing out on Marko Marin, Lukas Podolski, Papiss Cisse, Nikica Jelavic and Xerdan Shaqiri this year, I sincerely hope the club gets its act together in the transfer market this summer.

  1. Is he really that good though? Never been overly impressed whenever Ive seen him play!

  2. and suarez was a goal machine before he came to liverpool too..didn't even get to 20 this season, although I know he was out for a bunch of games.

  3. Jaimie, you do a great job finding these stories but I do wish one or two would come to fruition.

  4. I would be cautious, Suarez had 49 goals in the Eredsvie when we signed him and his finishing hasn't been great this season

  5. he would be first player i would try to get this summer (that we could realistically sign)

  6.  sigh marco van basten, RVP, dennis bergkamp came from dutch league they were ok

  7. That's exactly what i was going to say. Seen him play twice and was not that impressed, watching the entire game. But, of course, two games is nothing and maybe he is going to be a great striker. I wouldn't want to be taking the word of one of his coaches, though. A bit like the coaches who told us that 'Adam could put a corner anywhere' and 'Downing was an outstanding signing' or that 'Henderson will take Gerrards mantle in future'!

would he come to us? if he really is as good as people say, i would be very surprised, especially where we are at the moment.

  9. Still would prefer we took a chance on Jordan Rhodes for a third of the price, or worried more about getting a playmaker to build the team around, bearing in mind that Gerrard's time will be coming to a close soon.

  10. I'm just reporting what various players, managers, agents, chairmen etc say - it's unrealistic to expect that most of these transfers will come to fruition.

  11. First of all, EPL is different from the Dutch League and you cannot score at will. More importantly, though, LFC lacked creative players that can feed good balls to Suarez. That is why, while we need De Jong or Adebayor up front, there is an urgent need to bring creative midfielders. We also need a DM (Diame on free is good) and someone like Elm (as a CMF) to release Gerard forward.

  12. Hey Gab - totally agree re Rhodes. It sickens me to think we could miss out on him. We could both get both De Jong and Rhodes for less than was paid for Jordan Henderson, so go for both I say.

  15. Some of the defending here would have Hansen puking p his own spleen in disgust!!

  16. he hasnt the pace we need and he isnt all that good in air. still, at his age he looks a good prospect, and its the way he takes his goals which impress me more than anything- cool, calm and collected. £15m is too much to pay though; £8m is more like it. and dont expect him to set the premier league alight in his first season!

  17. Any news on Gaston Ramirez Jaimie? Is he available for LFC?

  18. Luuk is a very effective, technical and smart striker. He's very strong in the air but also smart in duels. He easilly keep the ball in possesion of the team. He makes goals in a very simple, effective way. That's probably the reason that he seems to be an average player, but he really is a top striker... As a FCT supporter I've see him play many times. That's also the reason that I hope that Luuk will stay to FCT next season.....

Girum I like the gospel you preach. We need a really creative string puller in the center of the park more than an alcoholic needs a new drink. Adams certainly was not that man. Henderson is work in progress. I know we have never really replaced Alonso. Aquilani is one of the more creative central midfielders we will have available to us next season (if he is not sent packing). If he stays injury free he could open up annoying defences for us with his great passing.

  20. Jamie,
What do you think of Rodallega? He is also on free from Wigan. He can play on the wings and he can also play centre forward. If he can come through the medical that is one other player FSG and Kenny should consider to sign. We can then use the transfer kitty to go after Elm and Gaston Ramirez. What do you say?

  21. to be a scoring machine you need to have good supply from the midfield with out that no matter how good u are it can be very frustrating saurez has showed more spirit to win games sometimes single handedly so I wouldn't classify him in the low quality department with lucas fit and gerrard we wud def see the best in him although we do need a quality striker personally wud love to see atletico madrids falcao in liverpool colours next season

  22. Actually, when Raul Meireles was brought in it seemed like we finally filled Alonsos shoes, but again we can't seem to hold onto our talent.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Im a Twente fan and he is a great player. He probably needs some time to adapt at Liverpool, because the Dutch league is quite poor and you don't get much resistance of the defenders. But he is still young and he will defenitly become the best striker of the Dutch team.

I hope he stays very long at our side Twente, but i would advice Liverpool to buy him for the future and maybe could Liverpool let him develop some more at Twente on a loan basis.

  24. His end product is not good enough. Stats for the last 4 seasons:

    * 1 assist every 11.9 games
    * 1 goal every every 4 games

Whether it's as a winger or a striker, those stats just don't cut it. Stats for this season only:

    * 1 goal every 6.8 games
    * 1 assist every 4.5 games

    Again, not good enough (IMO)

When it comes to attacking players, end product is all that matters, and Rodallega is not the answer.

Horrenderson! Ha ha, nail on the head. Rhodes is just the kind of future
prospect we need. Apparently Mertens has been linked to us again in the
Dutch press, has anyone seen much of him?

    ReplyDelete
  26. yes perfect if we can sign him and rhodes for a combination of around 15-17mill that would be great as that will leave us with a very competitve strke force carrol, suarez, de jong and rhodes then gaston ramirez with aqualiani staying and joe cole our attack will be complete with stregnth and depth defensively a new defensive midfielder and left back will complete a strong side that can challenge on four fronts with youngsters such as rhodes sterling coady and suso getting runs outs in carling cup and early fa cup

  27. LETS BE REALISTIC...

we have just finished 8th in the league level on points with Fulham, we have been told that there isnt much to spend and we have a very poor squad, if Luuk De Jong has any ambition he wouldnt come to Liverpool.

Unfortunately what we need we wont get, we need top class talent but none of them will want to come to us when the top 5 in the league are miles ahead.

I think we have to take the best footballing talent from teams below us in the league such as:
    Dembele- very good technical player
Hoilett- Winger, we could guarantee him first team football
Joe Allen- One of the best passers in the league
Dempsey- Could solve our goal problem

    ReplyDelete
  28. Horrenderson mmmm... seem to remember a lot of similar stupid comments for years about Lucas but strange that all seems to have gone quiet.

Henderson will do a lot better the more he plays CM like  he did vs Chelsea. Oh and before people quote the transfer fee, that's nothing to do with him.

Yes we need better players in the squad but why do we always have to slag off young players who will get better with the right development.

Appoint Luis Van Gaal as DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL.
Appoint Frank Rijkaard as LIVERPOOL MANAGER

    SIGN:
    Higuain (Striker)
    Ibrahim Affaley (Right Winger)
    Eden Hazard (Playmaker)
    Kagawa (Left Winger)
    Lucas Biglia (Defensive Midfielder)

  30. You are right about Dutch league.
Rule of the thumb is that you expect a player coming to EPL from Eredivisie would score around 50%-55% of number of goals he scored in Eredivisie .

    ReplyDelete
  31.  Roberto Soldado. Proven Number 9. Thats what we need. He would be able to play with Suarez or Carroll. We need a proper No 9 to just stick the chances away.

  32. akash wake up and smell the coffee we dont have mega rich russians or arabs with more money than sence... get back to championship manager

    ReplyDelete
  33. Maybe that says more about our midfield than about Luis

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thats what Andy Caroll played like for Newcastle but look what happened when he came to us,we need a world class striker .

    ReplyDelete
  35. Its not the lack of supply that has made Suarez missed the chances he has had this season. That is on Suarez himself.

The midfield should be creating more and scoring as well but at the end of the day, Suarez's finishing hasn't been good and that is his fault.

  36. bloody hell

  37. du jong reminds me alot like kuyt...which means not to rely on him for a his goals but being like kuyt is not neccessarily a bad thing

  38.  You're not playing FIFA you know

    ReplyDelete
  39. Get better with the right development? Than Liverpool FC could develop all the players that didn't make into the top half! It won't happen.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I guess you're pissed because NO English was quoted?

    ReplyDelete
  41. As bad as these stats are, they're better than half our squad! In saying that I'd hate him at Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  42. agree. henderson had his best games in the centre and thats where he should play. he and lucas could do well lots of energy good passing and tackling from both. adam and downing should be sold before kuyt and maxi dropping those 2 is where it began to go  wrong this season they should have played the home games at least. we were so poor at home this year.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Strikers are as good as the midfield!!! remember Andy cole from Man Utd?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yes, and Rhodes scored his 40th goal of the season yesterday. Absolutely phenomenal. I wonder how much money the club intends on spending this summer. I think that, as much as anything else, the club needs a Modric, Silva, Mata type in the centre, particularly with Gerrard's powers not getting any stronger at this point in his career.

Horrenderson, like it!! At least he scored last week, but, come sunday, it was back to the usual uncommitted showing by the majority of the team.

    ReplyDelete
  45. How much did we pay for Lucas. The fee might have nothing to do with him, but it still constitutes the club being ripped off and the fee being, erm, horrendous. For every Lucas there are four Bruno Cheyrous as well.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yes, i like him as well. Would very happily see him coming to us. But the way Valencia get raided every year, i doubt they would sell for cheap until they are desperate for funds again. In the last couple of seasons they have sold Silva and Mata. 45 million spent on those two, instead of the midfielders that we did buy, and we'd be in champions league, without a doubt, and we'd have a player, particularly in Mata, who we could rely on to run games, albeit in a different way, once Gerrard has called time on his career. Mata and Silva for the same price as Adam, Henderson and Downing. Makes me want to weep.

    ReplyDelete
  47. eh? why would I be pissed that there are no English quoted in there?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Seriously dude, that is way over the bar and overly overly ambitious. We couldn't have bought them even if we were title winners. Let alone top 4, we are 8th dude!!! None of them will want to come to mid table club when they are enjoying CL football. Be realistic like Jaymeariel! I think he speaks the possibility. May be we can finish 4th next year and prolly think about buying half of your players.-samir
