last week, Liverpool loanee Joe Cole compared his old Chelsea team-mate John Terry to German legend Franz Beckenbauer, claiming the much-maligned former England could organise a team just as well 'The Kaiser'. I'm sure most would agree that Cole's view is a gross exaggeration, but ahead of Chelsea's crucial Champions League second leg tie against Barcelona tonight, Anfield legend Alan Hansen has joined Cole in praising Chelsea captain.
Speaking to The Telegraph yesterday, Hansen - who has been highly critical of Chelsea's defenders this season - enthused:
"Tuesday will be the biggest game of Terry’s career. He has been incredible over the past six weeks with his performances, but the way he has organised his team defensively has been crucial.
"He always knows where the defensive line is and he organises everything. If he was playing for Barcelona last week, they would not have conceded the goal that gives Chelsea the advantage ahead of the return leg".
Hansen has changed his tune from earlier in the season, when he labelled the Terry-David Luiz partnership as 'catastrophic', and accused the defender of 'making more mistakes in the last 8 games than he has in the last 8 years'
Hansen also invoked the ire of former Chelsea boss Andre Villas Boas when he labelled Luis and Jose Bosinwga 'embarrassing' defenders.
Terry - who was recently stripped of the England captaincy, and is now awaiting trial for alleged racist abuse - will have to be at his career-best to keep the likes of Messi, Iniesta and Xavi at bay, but like John Aldridge, I really hope Barcelona give Chelsea a real hammering tonight.

Till they are whipped tonight then hell be back to catastrophic haha
ReplyDeleteterry is a dispicable thug.
ReplyDeletesuarez was villified for the evra incident yet terry has had an easy enough time from the meida.
a good player but the over the top praise is ridiculous.
Easy time? Stripped of the captaincy and fucked by the media more than Suaracist ever was, without being found guilty of anything yet!!
ReplyDeletenasty bitter pikey soucers, you deserve to be where you are with that attitude.
ReplyDeleteTypical comments from supporters of a once-great team which now clings on for a top 10 finish!
ReplyDeleteI hope Barca beat them, mostly because if Chelsea somehow manage to win the CL, they'll get the last qualification spot and I think that either Newcastle or Spurs would be more deserving this season.
ReplyDeleteSuarez was not "proven" guilty, he was "found" guilty there is a difference. In a court of law it would not have ever went to trial as there was no evidence. can we not put this to bed once and for all. Terry was filmed saying certain things on camera yet Suarez gets boo'd by opposition teams and Terry gets the odd bad word in the media.
ReplyDeleteI really hope Chelsea get knocked out and I'm a Chester fan so I'm not biased either way.
showing his class again tonight.ha ha ha.
ReplyDeleteblueboy did you see the thug get sent off tonight a real disgrace lethis club and the fans down big time
ReplyDeleteMeireles leads Chelsea to the champions league final.Cant people see the King is interested in the King,he wanted to rip a great LFC team up,put his mark on the team and claim all the credit.Well where finished now,the King got rid of Meireles then slyly blamed him, when it wasnt Meireless fault,LFC said to Meireles after one year we will double your wages, the King and LFC decided to go back on their word.Weve now lost a world superstar who has destroyed Barca, just so the King can sing I did it my way.Well your way is a failure King
ReplyDeletefuck off u cockney cunts
ReplyDeleteI think the comparison with Beckhanbauer is stretching it a bit tbh, Cole obviously respects Terry as a player and a leader, Terry is a talented CB for sure and has captained the side whilst winning a few trophies along the way BUT he deffo ain't no Beckhanbauer IMO.
ReplyDeleteHis captaincy for England was more problematic than it was worth...tonight against Barcelona he let his team down BIG time.....baffling decision on his behalf one that left even his team mate Lampard scratching his head.....
Anyway, i won't get personal about the guy, i don't agree with Cole and Hansen (bless him..:)) has made himself look like a bit of a numpty.....
lol.
So what's ur opinion now that we ko'd dirty barca withjust 10 men?
ReplyDeleteYou don't know squat about football, chelsea, Terry or anything/anyone for that matter. Just sit down, turn the pc off and shut up. Mugs.
Coz CHELSEA's off to Munich!!!
Thats a bit harsh no one was privy to what was going on at the Club during the summer break....so no one can say with any authority why Kenny made the decision to let him go....
ReplyDeleteCan't you just enjoy watching him play without getting all pissed off?
I don't see it as a problem tbh, he's moved on, we've moved on....simple as.
btw- i watched the game tonight and i thought that whilst Mereiles played well he was only part of a whole team playing well.....
If anyone i would say that it was Ramires who was responsible for leading Chelsea to the final with a completely brilliant goal.....that gave them back the advantage....... then up steps torres to finish it off.... after almost allowing Barca a through route to goal down the left side by not hardly bothering to stay on his marker and defend....
Funny game really, plenty of drama but i wouldn't go too OTT over the performance of Raul myself, let him enjoy his moment and let us move on.....as i said earlier there must have been a good reason for letting the guy go IMHO.
talking about Everton right?
ReplyDeletelol....
ReplyDeleteyeah great, it will be great for you, to visit the fatherland where you can throw your nazi salutes. english football being represented by a club that houses ignorant, thick, dumb a*ses. headhunters, combat 18,loyalist f*ckwits. even if (and i hope to f*ck you lose), you do scrape the champs lge,you will never be considered great. you won't even be as good as nottingham forest, you w*nkers. so f*ck off back to your w*nk palace in fulham, you nazi scum.........for the good of football, everyone must hope you lose......chelsc*m.......I s*it them. oh, if you do want to come across all danny dyer, make sure you come from within the sound of bow bells, you 'mockney' c*nt.
ReplyDeletefully agree certainly no beckhanbauer more of a poor mans Terry Butcher without Butchers fantastic personality obviously. and lets not forget there is a pending court case to deal with. John Terry decent footballer but thats about it.
ReplyDeletewhat a disappointment going to Munich will be. you will never beat the self styled chosen one and if its Bayern they will be playing at home. You will only have half a team can only see 1 loser whoever you play.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, oh dear. Certainly showed the subtle class of Beckenbauer yesterday(!)
ReplyDeleteCole may not be the wisest nor as consistent as he was two seasons ago but boy did he put in two top performances against Barca.
Were you hit alot as a kid.
ReplyDeleteUr an angry man.
Take a Valium...
. . . . and back to catastrophic , could'nt happen to a nicer fella , that'll be another thing he'll have in common with Roy Keane
ReplyDeleteMakes me laugh, a 21 year old who gets sent off for Man City is a liability and the reason they would not win the title, yet this thug is captain fantastic and people like Souness are on telly asking what the other guy must have done to make Terry attack him on a football pitch. Then, they praise him for putting the record straight and admitting he did wrong. No, he didn't, he said that he admitted 'it looked bad' on camera and then gave the old 'I'm not that kind of player' excuse when the whole world knows that he is exactly that type of player and man to do such a thing. The man is a disgrace and the bias of the English press towards him, and against others who are clearly far more decent human beings than him, is just as disgraceful. Hope they win it without him to make it worse for him. He's possibly the most selfish man to walk onto a football pitch and I doubt he would enjoy missing the glory should the team win.
ReplyDeleteyou can always watch your best bits on the history channel. LFC-King Kenny, I still haven't stopped laughing
ReplyDeleteat least we have one to be proud of. i notice you are too much of a coward to say who you follow. pr*ck.
ReplyDeletewe have one to be proud of. i notice you are too mouthy or embarrassed to say who your club is.
ReplyDeletekeep knocking at chelsea. scouse glass houses eh?
ReplyDeleteas a chelsea fan I watch chelsea games a lot (obviously) and john terry gets a good booing in every one of them.
ReplyDeleteoh that's right. chelsc*m? the club that without your rich little oligarch was NOTHING but a little nazi sc*m infested, club in fulham. all your history includes is crowd violence, rangers c*ck s*cking, various relegations and F*CK ALL ELSE.
