In February, South America football expert Jose Alberti made the bold claim that Napoli's Argentina striker Ezequiel Lavezzi would be a Liverpool player next season. Lavezzi recently insisted that he is happy in Italy, but this week, Napoli Chairman Aurelio Di Laurentis has conceded that he may have no option but to let the coveted striker leave at the end of the season.
Speaking to Radio CalcioMercato in February, Alberti claimed that Lavezzi 'will definitely leave Naples at the end of the season' and that he would 'move to England and sign for Liverpool".
A few days after that, Lavezzi told Sky Sports Italia that he would 'be at Napoli next season' and confirmed that there had 'not been any offers from other clubs".
Yesterday, Di Laurentis - who has regularly contradicted himself over Lavezzi's future - seemed to suggest that a move could be on the cards:
"He wanted to have that [30m buy-out] clause inserted when he signed, so there's a big chance it will be used at some point. We will just have to wait and see whether there are clubs ready to match his clause. Lavezzi is in my heart, but if he wants to leave, we will have to let him go if a team meets his buy-out clause"
Liverpool's interest in Lavezzi is well established. In 2009, former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez tried to sign him as a striker partner for Fernando Torres, and this was confirmed by the Argentine's Agent in an interview with The Telegraph.
According to TalkSport, Lavezzi has a £30m release clause in his contract, but since Champions League football seems to be a pre-requisite for the striker, a move to Liverpool seems unlikely.
Anything can happen though, and as we all know, in the world of football, money talks. Kenny Dalglish was at Stamford Bridge last month for a Chelsea-Napoli CL game, and it's conceivable that he was there to run the rule over Lavezzi, and his strike partner Edinson Cavani.
Napoli are currently 4th in Serie A, one point off the third Champions League place.

Nonsense!
ReplyDeleteLiverpool aren't playing Chelsea in the near future?! Really?
ReplyDeleteNot playing Napoli or Chelsea in the near future? Are you positive about that?
ReplyDeleteeven if he does leave, he pointed to the fact he wants champs lge football. we won't be in it for a while,so he won't come to us. next article please.
ReplyDeleteWith King Kenny at the helm; Liverpool wouldn't be in it for a while.
ReplyDeletehey jamie- capello has expressed interest in managing a premier league team. if kenny dalglish is pushed aside do you think it's work going for him?
ReplyDeleteFlying a kite here!!!!
ReplyDeleteNO , why go after capello ? there are 10 better managers out there . RAFA RAFA RAFA
ReplyDeleteHis release clause is more likley 30 million euros and YES money does talk City managed to sign Robinho and other "world class" or very good players when they had not been in European Football for years.
ReplyDeleteFSG must now know the time to invest in a few top players has come and Lavezzi must be a target along with Muinian and Saldado.
Lavezzi does not have a great goals to games ratio does the club need another non finisher and over priced Italian flop.
ReplyDeletewhy are you asking jamie's opinion ? - he posts the most ridiculous stories every few hours and is possibly the most annoying person on the internet
ReplyDeleteA trained monkey's opinion would be less annoying
I think one of the two strikers mentioned in the other article about Soldado and Llorente would be good for us along with Texeira.. That is we buy soldado/Llorente and Texeira.. I would personally go for Llorente.. It would not disrupt the way of playing when Carroll comes back.. Carroll is the younger version of Llorente and how many people knew Llorente when he was younger?? And these types of players like Llorente and Carroll can play longer than say Torres. There is Abel Hernandez in the Italian league..
ReplyDeleteI think we should 4-3-3.
With Suarez, Llorente and Hernandez up front
Diego(quite cheap as his parent club doesn't want him), Gerrard and Lucas..
Same back line and Keeper..
Promote Sterling, Suso, Coady, Eccleston, Wisdom..
Too expensive.
ReplyDeleteJAMIE STOP BEING AN ATTENTION SEEKER
ReplyDeletewe can only dream of having cavani and lavezzi in our lfc team right now. Cavani with Suarez on left wing, dribbling, cutting inside. gerrard behind cavani supplying the passes like he did for torres, driving in the box and lavezzi on right wing, direct and clinical. if only this could happen! If it happens i'll eat my hat. i'd have to buy one first, as i don't own one.....
ReplyDeleteDi Laurentis = rent-a-quote
ReplyDeleteeveryone needs to stop going on about sacking dalglish you bunch of glory hunting manc tw*ts , bet half of youse are sh*t at footy or never even played for a team and talk like you know it all. was everyone expecting miracles that we would all of a sudden be up there challenging after the last few seasons weve had you bell*nds. not going to get anywhere sacking managers as soon as things get hard look at chelsea. oh an always hes already done more than what fergie did in his first full year in charge
