LFC Line-Up vs. Everton: Carroll starts; Bellamy not in squad. Injured?

Steven Gerrard returns to the Liverpool starting line-up tonight for the Premier League game against Everton.

Craig Bellamy is not even on the bench, which means he's either injured or being 'rested'. Here is the full team:

Full Team: Reina, Kelly, Carra, Skrtel, Enrique, Henderson, Spearing, Gerrard, Downing, Suarez, Carroll.

Subs: Doni, Maxi, Kuyt, Adam, Coates, Flanagan.

This team does not fill me with confidence at all; it looks like - yet again - we'll see Henderson played out of position on the right, with Gerrard stuck in central midfield where he'll probably be marked out of the game.

Probable formation:

---------------------- Reina

Kelly ---------- Carra -- Skrtel ------ Enrique

Henderson --- Spearing --- Gerrard ---- Downing

-------------- Carroll -- Suarez

With the players available, I think the following formation would be more effective:

---------------------- Reina

Kelly ---------- Carra -- Skrtel ------ Enrique

Gerrard ----- Spearing -- Henderson ---- Downing

-------------- Carroll -- Suarez

David Moyes has decided to leave the likes of Tim Cahill and Nicola Jelavic on the bench, which should give Liverpool the advantage. Hopefully, the team will be able to capitalise.

  1. Kuyt is just the right man for this type of game, he should have started this game.

  2. How is it that Hendo is starting all the games when he is as much useless as a tent-peg/kit model? Maxi is there, Kuyt is there, what the hell is going to happen I can only close my eyes and pray for a good night, thanks Jamie for the quality articles, Rafa Back

  3. He has been terrible the last two games no thanks

  4. Cahill being on the bench favours Everton- he offers nothing if he doesn't score and whilst his record is good in derbies, how often does he score nowadays?

Jelavic is still an unknown quanity whereas we know that Stracq and Anichebe will work incredibly hard and be a general pain in the arse. Good aerial presence too.

    Good selection by Moyes.

Kenny has picked the right team too. Maybe it would have been better if he had picked Gerrard on the right, but with some proper movement, he could well move there. If we play as fluid as against Chelsea, for example, this is the best set-up.

Not sure why this team doesn't fill you with confidence 'at all'- care to expand on that?

I think Bellamy aside, who has to be injured or not fit, this is the best side we could play. On current form Maxi should probably get in ahead of Hendo as well, actually.

Happy to see he has dropped Adam finally. He has been, for the most part, diabolical since Lucas got injured.

  10. Glad to see we are winning. Yet again, Stevie G is the focal point. Though I was expecting us to win this game, as we turn up for big games.

  12. Yes. 32, ravaged by injury and Liverpool are still over reliant on him.

Jimmy, do you ever write ANYTHING positive about the club? You must be a miserable person to be around.

  15. Gerrard marked out of the game?????
    Suarez not important to Liverpool????
    English man scoring a Hattrick????
Pity one of the others couldn't weigh in with a goal but a good team performance should keep Kenny in a job for a few more weeks!

Jaime, would I be wrong in saying you´re more quiet when Liverpool win than when they lose. That was a marvelous performance. There´s been a lot of doom and gloom in the last week on this site, and understandably, but things aren´t as bad as they seem. I know you don´t rate the League Cup, but I´m glad Kenny does, and some of us suppporters are proud to win it, and proud to have the record of 8 trophies. I grew up watching the Liverpool team of the 80´s, possibly the best team in Europe, and they were winners, all of them, and any trophy we were in they would do their best to win it. Would you be happier if we won the FA Cup?

Anyway, just wanted to say a great performance from the so-called "over-rated" Suarez, who I want to keep at Liverpool, because he´s capable of being truly world class, and any player we sign with the money we would hypothetically get for him would be a gamble. I´m sorry, but I know class when I see it, and he is class.

Nothing like a bit of positivity. The team can help with that, but so can us fans. That´s one of the things that´s made Liverpool so special down the years, and for me, that´s The Liverpool Way, and Kenny brings that. I have faith. There will be ups and downs, but at least, for the majority of the season, he´s got us playing the right way. We clearly need to be better finishers, and we´d have a lot more points on the board.

There´s plenty of potential there for this team to be a great team. We were dreadful last week vs Sunderland, but against Arsenal, we were by far the better team.

Just wanted to get that off my chest, and offer a bit of balance. I enjoy reading the site otherwise. Keep posting. All the best...

  23. Nice to have some balanced comment on the site.  Probably doesn't fit in with Jamie's tsunami of negativity but there you go

  24. Does tonight!
Let us try and enjoy a decent home win for once which like you says doesn't mean anything unless they carry it on for the rest of the season. My be the pitch on Saturday did him no good? Most probably be back for Sunday unless of cause he threw a strop for being subbed on Saturday?

  25. Enjoyed the game, good to see passion from the team but I wish Carroll would bin those ice skates he wears and put a proper pair of studs on.

  26. Criticism should be there anyway regardless of our situation regarding a run of wins, but still nobody should point fingers and come up with bogus solutions as if they've managed a top flight club themselves

  27. I think we are still in with a shout for the league title

  28. JK do you feel a bit more confident about the team selection now :) !!!!

  30. Makes me more certain that Rafa would bring the best out of these players added with some real quality ....kk is a joke and tonight proved it even more

  31. Silva scored the winner for Northampton as well tonight!

  32. It worked tonight, and that's great, but as I said in another comment, one victory does not define a season. We've still dropped 19 points at home and won only two of the last 9 league games. We've had other good victories earlier in the season ( Man U/Man City etc), but where did being overconfident after those get us? Nowhere. Let's see where we are at the end of March.

    ReplyDelete
  33. couldnt agree more its been a terrible season in the PL but I have witnessed some encouraging performances as well as all the poor ones where we have dropped points. SG was dead right in his after match comments. Nobody ever knows which team is going to turn up if at all (Sunderland) Lets see where we are in 10 games time and take stock. 4th definately a bridge to far imo.

  34. Downing and Enrique do a fantastic job of keeping our left flank safe, even if they aren't much of a goal threat. The chemistry between Gerrard, Carroll and Suarez is beginning to happen. There are also nice partnerships taking shape between Suarez/Henderson, Henderson/Kelly. We just need for our left flank to integrate with the rest of the team abit more.

Did you notice there were 4 bona fide homegrown players and 3 others who qualified as homegrown by FA rules? From the Oldham game, Wembley, the Arsenal loss and this game, I'm really liking what I see. After what has been a horrible season in terms of the football, our boys are finally playing like the team they're bought to be! Kenny rocks!

  35. I like how Gerrard dispossessed Suarez for the second goal. No one saw it coming!

    Class.

  36. "KK is a Joke and tonight proved it even more" Could you expand on this please Mali341 there is only 1 joke about your post mate and its not KK

  37. no chan it doesnt make things godd it makes things better

  38. Bloody hell, some fans are easily pleased. Though I guess the standards have dropped that low.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Fair play to you for such a brave post on here!
Think we need a few more results like that before we can start feeling really confident!
Henderson played well but he doesn't give Kelly/Johnson the cover because of his habit of wandering from the right wing Sunderland and Everton tried to take advantage but you can see his quality when he plays those balls through the channels but we haven't the forwards with pace to make use of them like he did at Sunderland.
The left wing like under previous managers need to attack the byline the number of times Enrique/Downing get forward and then stop or cut inside is annoying but Downing and Enrique cover each other well. Downing put one on a plate again and it was missed!
The first league start for Carroll,Gerrard and Suarez, Carroll beginning to show he can hold the ball up and beat a man Gerrard pushing forward so Suarez's dribbling doesn't go to waste and our biggest win against Everton since 1983 at Anfield first hattrick since 1935 at Anfield.
A great night but we need more like it!
Just hope that team starts the next league game .
