Agent: Exciting £18m LFC target is "wanted in England". Should Kenny bid?

Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko has been linked with Liverpool several times over the last year, and his Agent has today confirmed that there is 'every chance' that the France International will leave for England in the summer.

In July 2011, the 18m-rated box-to-box midfielder revealed that he was flattered to be linked with Liverpool, and claimed his style was suited to the Premier League:

"To have my name associated with these clubs [Liverpool and Man United] is very flattering, and I think my profile would correspond more to the English style of play"

Yesterday, Sissoko's representative Bakary Sanogo told calciomercato:

"He [Sissoko] is wanted in Spain, England and Germany and we have received interesting offers. There is every chance he will leave this summer because his contract will expire in 2013 and it is not in the best interest of Toulouse to lose him on a free transfer".

Liverpool arguably need a top quality, strong, athletic central midfielder, and Sissoko seems to fit the bill.

* At the age of 22, Sissoko fits Liverpool's transfer policy.

* He plays for a club that's not in the Champions League, which should make him a more realistic target.

* Liverpool lack real strength and athleticism in midfield.

* Lucas will need time to bed into the team again, and another season with the likes of Spearing, Henderson and Adam as back-up doesn't sound appealing.

What do you think: worth a bid?

  1. Definitely need a player of that type in our midfield, don't know enough about this guy, or seen enough on the video, to know if he would be the right player, though. I worry when I see any player priced over 10 million now, after what we did last year. Those failures have given me an irrational fear of expensive players.

I wouldn't write Adam off. In fact, I totally believe he's a different class entirely compared to Lucas.

  3. All Charlie Adam has done is kick people and give the ball away. Lucas is on a different level and he needs someone along side him in Midfield to help out defensively and also set us up to attack. Charlie Adam seems to have left his Left foot on Blackpool beach and his attitude on the pitch seems to be of one who doesn't really care too much. Charlie Nicholas has laid into him a few times this season for his attitude etc and I can see now why he never made it at Rangers. Clearly if he was good enough then Rangers wouldn't get rid of him right? Sissoko retains possession well, can tackle and he works hard. Would be a good option, but I wouldn't spend £18m on him.

  4. first of all jamie, i love this forum, it's one of the few liverpool sites on the net which offer rational and realistic views.back to the topic, getting a strong box-to-box player sounds like a good idea, however i think a winger is number one priority. we can't play with only one specialist winger who albeit hasn't really wowed people this season. but we can't rely on lucas in terms of his backup. charlie adam concedes WAY TOO MANY fouls and more often than not thinks he's alonso. henderson is like the teacher's pet who is always favoured by kenny but looks rather lost on the field. and yes there is definately not strength and athleticism. or speed for that matter. we have such a slow squad aswell. even suarez isn't that fast!

  5. Hi Nick. I'm glad you like the site; for me, the many intelligent fans with their interesting views are what elevate the site :-) I totally agree with you about getting a top winger. It seems like we've all been saying the same thing for the last twenty years, yet Steve McManaman and Patrick Berger aside (and those two weren't even dedicated wingers), it's ridiculous that the club hasn't prioritised this position in the team.

  6. I think Spearing has been very very good, both this season and last season he plays the ball winning midfielder role very well and gives his all every time he goes out. Adam has been disappointing, completely different player to last season.

Henderson has shown flashes of potential in the middle but clearly needs time and is awful out wide. I think we need to address both wings and a clinical striker to compliment Suarez and Gerrard. Which class players will come to us is a different matter as we don't offer champions league football or ridiculous wages like City.

  7. to be honest i used to think it was a bit negative ( don't get me wrong i still enjoyed it) however i do agree now with 95% of your views because i've become fed up with dalglish and his squad. he should leave to lessen the risk of majorly tainting his liverpool legacy. i now admit the suarez fiasco was poorly handled, and his comments this year have been so cringe-worthy ( especially the excuses about lack of luck and tiredness). do you think he should step down or be sacked?

  8. spearing is not a natural player with flair however he does offer the team alot. adam needs to get back to basics and learn how to tackle. he's been trying to replicate alonso with beautiful long passes with much less success. there is still plenty of talent that could come to liverpool, they just have to know where to look.

  9. Still believe we should have gone for Diego over Adam. Difficult to see Sissoko at the club, despite his obvious qualities, because he would be direct competition for Henderson. We also have Teixera, who at his age should be pushing for a first team berth next season, and of course Shelvey, who seems hungry for more first team action.

  10. we need to give the youngsters a chance. sterling offered more in 10 minutes than downing has all year. we have talent that we cant just let wash down the drain. shankly will be turning in his grave if sterling goes to spurs

  13. If John Henry really wants LFC to model itself on Arsenal then he should not give any money to KD to spend this summer (if he remains manager) unless it's for a world class player and force KD to start playing the youngsters.

  14. Hey Jamie what are the chances of getting Tello from Barca on a loan deal or even buying him? he has great spend and is very tricky with a ball, KK could play him on the left he would be dangerous and is 20 years old.

  15. He is right about Adam being in a different class to Lucas...
    A class below!!!

  16. Yeah, you are right there.. a different class. One that is not required at Liverpool FC.

  17. its been a couple of bad results lately, but i dont think the squad  deep down is as bad as results have shown ,ok adam has bee a liability, hendo has been poor & suarez has been stop/start.downing has not performed to match his pricetag, kenny needs to play & try out a couple new younger players.sterling, shelvey suso, the sad part is when we get a winning formula together, we turn around  & change it again, bellers, maxi ,shelvey. should always feature even for last ten minutes ,they could poach a winner,i think carra should bow out in the summer ,he has been at fault several times since agger went out.and skrtel game has been affected .we need 1 or 2 decent additions ie. a winger, competitive midfielder.

  18. I agree with Tornike. I think we have a lot to come from him. He haven't been as good this season as we have expected but everyone with a little knowledge of football can see, that he has quality. We have a hole team that have underperformed - including Lucas (though he's last to or three games was excellent).
Adam and the rest of the team will come good next season.

  19. Spearing is naturally a box to box midfielder who is also being played out of position as a holding midfielder. He is an 'adequate' player, but he is well suited to our current position in midfield.

If Liverpool's ambitions truly are to rejoin the elite (as I'd hope), then a major upgrade is required in a number of positions.

If on the other hand we're just aiming for the same sort of 'progress' that we've seen this season, then sticking with the current options through the middle will do just fine...

  20. I'd been suggesting that we should pick up Moussa Sissoko for the last 3 years now, and my opinion still hasn't changed. I haven't watched him play this year tbh, and apparently his quality of play has regressed, but eitherways I can't see his price tag reaching £18m.
I'm sure that Sissoko would cost no less than £12m when he finally moves on, and I'm equally as sure that he won't be joining Liverpool. Unfortunately.

  21. Definitely agree - Dalglish let natural playmakers in Aquilani & Pacheco go, had Gerrard revert to a more restricted role in central midfield and then somehow decided that Henderson and Adam were the guys to provide the thrust from midfield.

Tbh, I just want to see more pace and flair in the team - Diego would've provided this in a manner that Henderson and Adam never will (although Henderson will hopefully develop the confidence to be an effective box to box midfielder asap)

  22. We have the perfect opportunity now to give Coates, Shelvey, Sterling and maybe even one of Suso/Coady/Ngoo/Wisdom/Morgan too, the requisite experience to prepare them to fulfill squad roles in a CL contending team next year.

Assuming the youngsters are brought along to be dequate squad players, then the club would just need 3 addition - a tricky winger, pacey goalscorer and a dominant central midfielder - to close the gap and be amongst the front runners in the Premier League again.

  23. need him bigtime the midfield is a joke spearing isn't good enough but runs his heart ou and a adebayor would be great
