Liverpool's home against Arsenal today means the club has now dropped a staggering 19 points at Anfield this season. 19 points! Those of us don't live in a state of perpetual denial could see weeks ago that 4th place was a pipe dream, and today's defeat just rams that harsh reality home with a sledgehammer. It's okay though - who cares about Champions League football - Liverpool won the prestigious, much-respected Carling Cup, and that makes everything okay :-)
People have criticised me for not writing any congratulatory posts after Liverpool's Carling Cup victory over Cardiff, but how can I when I don't feel the players deserve praise?
The Carling Cup means nothing; it’s a hollow, meaningless trophy, and to add insult to injury, Liverpool couldn't even win it fairly on the day, and had to rely on penalties to beat vastly inferior opposition.
For me, that's nothing to shout about; it's arguably embarrassing, and I just can't bring myself to celebrate a symbol of mediocrity. If that makes me a bad fan in the eyes of LFC 'superfans', then so be it.
All we've heard over the last week is how the Carling Cup win would spur Liverpool onto to greater heights in the league and blah blah blah, but, clearly, the opposite has happened. The brutal truth is that after spending 115m on players, Liverpool have regressed in the league, and the club is still in the same position it was in at the end of Rafa Benitez's reign.
We all know that if anyone else was in charge, there would be blood on the streets right now. If, for example, Roy Hodgson had presided over this season and dropped 19 points at home, the baying mob would be demonstrating outside Anfield calling for his head, and I sincerely doubt that 'But we won the Carling Cup!' excuse would assuage the vitriol.
A few observations about the game:
* Liverpool played well at times today but it was a case of same sh1t, different game. Forget possession statistics and shots on goal; the most telling fact is that Arsenal scored all three goals.
* Craig Bellamy left on the bench again? It's friggin' ridiculous. Why leave your top scorer on the bench?! It's not like he's been playing lots of games recently. At least give him 20-30 minutes to come on and make a difference, not a poxy 5-10 minutes at the end.
* Surely Pepe Reina could've made more of an effort to stop Van Persie's shot at the end? Reina had time to see the play develop, and to see RVP get the ball, but his reaction to the shot was half-hearted at best; and surely he should be covering the near post?
* I'm a great fan of Jamie Carragher, but he was arguably at fault for both goals (less so for the second, but still partly culpable)
* Arsenal were awful for most of the match, which makes the result even harder to take. Dalglish's signings - including Luis Suarez - let him down once again: poor crossing; lack of genuine midfield creativity, and the likes of Henderson, Downing and Adam rarely looked like scoring.
* Luis Suarez has a conversion rate of 8% this season, and it's easy to see why. His finishing is terrible; even when he's one-on-one with the keeper, Suarez just can't compose himself to finish under pressure. It's a massive shame, and underlines again the need for Liverpool to buy at least two more *prolific* strikers over the summer.
* The less said about Kuyt's penalty miss, the better. It was probably poetic justice after Suarez looked to have dived to win the penalty in the first place.
* Downing and Henderson have now gone over 50 league games between them without scoring a goal, yet despite that, they still start practically every game.
Fans can moan about bad luck, hitting the woodwork etc, but at some point, the excuses have to stop. Liverpool are just not good enough, and - for a variety of reasons - that is down to Kenny Dalglish.

Suarez was your best player imo.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, glad to win @ Anfield, bad luck to you.
Spot on. On every point. Despite what we have been witnessing all season, all the paranoid delusionals have tried to tell us that we were in good shape for 4th and having Arsenal to come at home was a good thing.
ReplyDeleteBut, hey, lets push on for 4th, we still have Chelsea at home to come and they are having a nightmare!! And there's still the FA Cup!!
Sure that people will talk about stats and the fact that we hit the post more than other teams, etc, etc, all excuses. The sooner we realise that we just are not good enough and are not moving forward at any great pace, the better. As long as the club stays in denial, this is as good as it is going to get.
100% agree
ReplyDeleteLiverpool absolutely murdered Arsenal, that result is incredible....................Liverpool were superb but we need a poacher more than ever!!!!
ReplyDeletein fairness ur the type to see the glass half empty
ReplyDeletewat is WRONG with dalglish he is the worst tactician ever!! wat were adam henderson and downing doing on the pitch and why on earth did he not use his subs earlier liverpool after spending £115 mill couldnt even beat cardiff!!! plz real liverpool fans wake up dalglish and his very stupid signing are just not cutting it!
ReplyDeleteYou're the most depressing supporter I've ever seen. I like and I'm more than capable of being critical about our team.
ReplyDeleteBut you, you just see and outline the bad side of every game.
I'm sorry, but we played well today. We are all depressed by this result but we deserved to win that game, and you probably know it.

ReplyDeletebad defeat to take, but its not like we should have lost. we need a goal-poacher in the Team to get the goals. So frustrating, as are most of our Home games this season.

Well said. I'd haul his ass out of Anfield in the summer. Great respect for Dalglish but if mourinho wanted the job and became available i'd hire him. Big fan of ur views and site Jaimie. Very refreshing. His signings have been terrible
ReplyDeleteI'm an Arsenal fan in peace . Bad luck today you played well in the first half and we were awfuL. I'm no expert on Liverpool this season but I think you spent a lot of money on very mediocre players and you clearly don't score enough goals at home.
ReplyDeleteYou have terrific fans I thought your warm applause or an ex-Everton player being carried off was very commendable and I'd love to see both f us in the Champions League next season
Flat 5, South Parade, Chew Magna, BS40 8SH
ReplyDeleteTeam worked hard and played very well. Sure, we had bad luck (again) but the absence of a finisher is our most glaring problem. I think you are being unduly harsh on the whole team. They dominated and played well. If we can get ourselves a Van Persie (that's the only thing that's missing) then we'll win the league. Keep the Faith.
ReplyDeletewhy does KD wait until the 80th+ plus minute to bring in Bellamy? was he going for a draw?
ReplyDeleteZero ad revenue for you!!
ReplyDeleteThere are dozens of us all around the world and we can post and click at any time of the day and night.... enjoy!!
ReplyDeletewe deserved to win to win but was unlucky. we created enough chances but was just lucky. im sure if we managed to grab that winner today( which we definitely could and 100 times more propable than arsenal scoring) just because van persie goal, you would have said the perfect match. so stop it lit kid
ReplyDeleteI think it's time for King Kenny to retire.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree. I am a Liverpool fan but couldn't even be arsed to watch the Carling Cup final as the cup is worth nothing to me and I feel it should not be worth anything to any football fan. Clubs don't even field their strongest team. It's like a Formula 1 race in which teams voluntarily decide to use three wheels only. If anything, having to play Europa League as a consequence is a punishment for a club like LFC.
ReplyDeleteHowever sanctioned to spend all that money on Carroll, Downing, Adam, and Henderson should feel embarrassed. The owners are on record saying that not finishing in the top4 would be a disappointment, so hopefully we will see Kenny stepping down in the summer, as he has clearly proven that he can't be trusted to spend the owners money well.
Better block this IP as well!
ReplyDeleteEver heard of a Sisyphean Task.... hahahahahahahaha
we full deserved to win today, even van persie admitted it. we created enough chances but was just lucky. im sure if we managed to grab that winner today (which we definitely could and was 100 times more probable than arsenal scoring) just before van persie's goal, you would have said the perfect match. so stop it, u being hypocrite to yourself
ReplyDeleteIf you were watching the game it was jamie poor attemp for the first goal and the second pepe dident want or care or try to save it. I see you not blaming the king k, hes the blame the dogs in the streets known that. you mark van the man out of the game simple as that. same old story should of could of, its the manger and over rated over paid players who are bring down lfc.YOU WANT A MANGER AND PLAYERS WHO ARE NOT AFILLIATE TO THE CLUB HISTOY START AFRESH.
ReplyDeleteWhy,Why and why,KD keeps (stubbornly) playing the likes of Adam,Henderson and Downing in every game?, and with no substiutions in sight, until it's far tooooooooooo late?, only KD knows!!!. Sorry, I am a KD fan, (as a player) but as a manager??, a big NO!!!
ReplyDeleteWTF happened there! With all the great chances created, it should have been 4-1 by the half, at least.
ReplyDeleteWe need a finisher to play alongside Suarez. I would play Luis behind the main striker with a Higuain, Cavani type player up the middle. Adam is a liability. He can't even put a cross/corner/free kick past the first defender anymore, can't tackle, is slow at recovering and gives the ball away too easily. Spearing is improving but we really miss Lucas in that position! I'm afaraid Carroll also has to go this summer with Adam, because he does not fit the way Liverpool are playing.
I DONT AGREE
ReplyDeleteSuarez's dive was disgusting. I find myself looking at him and expecting all kinds of wrong behaviour in every single second.
ReplyDeleteThe only positive for me was that Kelly played as right back, and from the start.
Sorry Fuzza but how many times should we look at the "good" points and ignore the actual results?! It is simply pathetic what is happening out there and KD has a lot to answer for. Adam was once again terrible. Henderson is basically just a wall pass, Downing could have assisted the game winner but passed it to the keeper...when it mattered most.
ReplyDeleteWhat got me most was that KD showed his cards today and now it is clear. He refused to bring on Maxi and Bellamy...the only guys who actually score goals in these types of games to EARN us points! BUT, it was that he scrambled to try to win us 1 POINT after we went down at the end...WHAT ABOUT TRYING TO GET US THE 3-POINTS?! He played not to lose rather than to WIN...that was laid out for all to see today, So damn frustrating and disappointing...but not surprising is it? Honestly...
PEPE CAUSE THE MATCH, WHAT GAME WERE U WATCHING
ReplyDeleteDalglish, according to the official site (which laughably begins the match reaction article with news that Gerrard will soon be back), said: "If you want to gauge it on points there'll be disappointment; if you
ReplyDeletewant to gauge it on performance then I think we were fantastic". So, according to him, 'performance' is only what happens before goals are scored, and goals themselves don't play part in gauging performance. If this is the logic we're going to stick to, we're in BIG trouble.
It's not a hollow win a or meaningless cup, that's a stupid comment.
ReplyDeleteHowever, today was the worst result of the season. Ignore the fact that their name was Arsenal, the opposition today were the worst team we have played at home apart from Bolton and failing to beat them was criminally bad.
Today was a microcosm of the whole season. Totally dominate opposition-check, miss loads of chances-check, miss a pen- check, oppo keeper has a blinder and is man of match- check, defence has almost nothing to do but still makes a poor error and they score - check, hit woodwork - check.
Thought Henderson was better in the middle but Adam was abysmal.
Comolli and Dalglish have got far more wrong than right, but , nothing 2 good signings wouldn't sort. Question is whether I would trust them to get right players in and I don't think I would to be honest.
Also, I have to say that if we are offered any sort of profit on Suarez I would take it and use the money on 2 top players, his contribution is limited when it really counts I'm afraid.
You must be deluded then!!!
ReplyDeleteThe fact is Kenny knows that Liverpool are not scoring enough goals but he still persists with players who are not scoring and not giving chances to our most clinical goalscorers in Bellamy and Maxi. In order to justify his signings he is playing Downing, Henderson, Adam but none of them feature in the best Liverpool 11. Liverpool should never have let Aquilani go who was class apart, from any of the signings we have made in the summer. Summer business was the worst piece of transfer business we have ever done and maybe anyone has ever done. The Champions League spot is not in our hands anymore, now hopefully we win all the remaining games and hope for the best but can't see us winning many because we have not shown any consistency at all.
ReplyDeleteI don't really see the progress we have made this season, apart from the results we haven't played great brand of football either.
Kenny shouldn't be the manager next year if Liverpool finish outside top 4 because he has shown that he is not up for it.
Liverpool with RVP are League winners!!!
ReplyDeleteBlah Blah Blah, when Kenny took over relegation was a reality, we were out of the cups, albeit the day after kenny took over but to soon to change anything and the damage was done. Now we are back in europe and have won trophy and may still win another. People forget so quickly how close we were to going under, relegation was real. This Kanwar lad, I remember he was benitez's worst critic and when he went tried to defend Hodgson, also I think benitez's class was shown when he left coz the bottom did fall off under hodgson. I base my opinions on the oposite to you coz you write some rubbish. I remember your our finances aren't that bad post, look H and G haven't put debt on the club rubbish. That's why I know that things will be ok because your always wrong!
ReplyDeleteYNWA
Correct mate, we battered them!!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree they are the worst team we have played at home, Im absolutely gobsmacked.....................highway robbery!!!
ReplyDeleteIs it a massive success for this historic club to just securing the carling cup and not be able being competitive in the premier league? Is it just enough securing the FA cup and not qualifying to the champions league? I said it many times, I will repeat it for once more and I just hope that John W. Henry, Thomas Werner, Ian Ayre, and Damien Comolli will finally after the today defeat to take it seriously: Kenny Dalglish cannot turn the fortunes of this club and transmit it to a title contender! Is it just enough all the time to be emphasizing, "if you want to gauge it on performance then I think we were fantastic?" But fantastic performances and points drop do not bring any success! We need Jose Mourinho who has the ability to transmit practically and not theoretically the players into real winners. We need moving up to the next level and it is the right time for all of us that we love this club to finally understand how we can achieve that. If not, every season we will be experiencing the same frustrating emotions!
ReplyDeleteWinning any Cup is always a good thing but it has just helped to cover up a poor season. We are out of the mix for Champions League in March which is unacceptable for Liverpool. The problem being too much money has been spent on the wrong players. We are not Man City and need to be wise with how we spend the money we have so wasting millions on players we don’t need or are poor value for money is unacceptable. Jordon Henderson may come good but did we really need to spend 16 million on another centre midfielder, when we are crying out for a right winger? Downing is the type of player we needed (a left winger) so I can understand why we bought him but again he has been poor and over priced. Carol has to be the worse out of the lot. If we were going to spend 35 million on him we have to play to his strength’s which is to get wingers down the lines and whip in good crosses for him to get on the end of. He was never going to play well in a pass and move play style. It was a knee jerk reaction after selling Torres. The money should have been kept till the summer and a suitable replacement sourced. People can go on about how we got £50 million for Torres who has scored fewer goals but why should we compare ourselves to Chelsea’s problems? The money could have been used much more wisely. Overall poor decisions in January (buying Carol) and last summer have resulted in a poor season. What is the answer, I don’t know!
ReplyDeletehenderson was shocking-he seems incapable of thinking on his own.suare put him in a great position to shoot-what does he do? pawns the ball off,it's like he's scared to shoot.extremely frustrating player who looks a complete waste.
ReplyDeletedowning and his heavy touch when he was under no pressure to put suarez through summed his day up.
spearing left his own half once, adam has gone backwards and has no influence on the game.
it was embarassing to see bellamy coming on in the 87th minute!
what was he meant to do.
why not give him 20 minutes.
Can't agree more!!! Well said.
ReplyDeleteFor people too passionate enough to not sea. KK has zero tactics. Proof, first match after winning the mickey mouse club which was supposed to be our finding the yellow brick road step ended with a disaster, playing against Arsenal today who were out for the taking (with all respect to Arsenal fans) also having 2 players subbed for injuries and with us scoring first, just sums it all!!! If KK thinks this game is not urgent enough to have a risk and use that momentum of winning that cup then when will he!!! As soon as we have a player who is almost finiding a bit of form they find them selves on the bench!!! Playing Suarez up alone was a bigger surprise to me than SP captaining England last week!!!
Please wake up and admit that KK is a motivator and knows nothing about tactics, he wasted our only chance to have a chance this year. Imagine what would have happened if any of our other managers wasted that amount of money!!!
And it's not time that Kenny needs it's a tactician by his side. We are going nowhere with this. BTW Commoli pointed to progress, what progress?
Thanks Jamie for making this night easier to take. You were spot on as always.
Ironically Birmingham were relegated after winning the Carling cup last season, not that for any second, Liverpool will be relegated. But my point is that some teams who fight for their life to get this cup, often take their eye off the ball in the most important tournament, the EPL. Top 4 is the goal nowadays, without the Champions league entry, teams are not as financially rewarded and then struggle thereafter unless they are taken over by a Sugar Daddy! The better players then want to leave the club so more turmoil! Arsenal have not won a cup in 6 soon to be 7 seasons, but in all those years(and more) they have enjoyed CL football, but as I say to do this, they sacrificed the Carling and FA Cup. Unfortunately if your not in the tune of several millions in debt, you will always struggle as Arsenal do and they are the best financially run football club (probably) in the world, but cups: zero? Be careful what you wish for.
ReplyDeleteagree about suarez,he's in the team to score goals.his finishing is dreadful.
ReplyDeleteSomeone should tell Kenny that this isn't the 1980's. You can make 3 subs. When you can make 3, why wait till the 87th minute to make the first. We dominated at the start, as we normally do, and then as the match progressed, players looked tired and the opposition grew in confidence. That's when you should put in your subs. Why Kenny, why? Please, don't be so stubborn.
ReplyDeleteJaimie, sounds like you've well and truly spat the dummy out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for blocking my post the other day, was I being too positive or was my berating of the nay-sayers too much for you?
Can you post up just who you would like to be Liverpool's manager?
I didn't know of this site before Rafa's tenure and I saw you slagging off almost everything he did. I didn't pay much attention to this during Roy's debacle but, for some reason this season, I've been coming here regularly to read whatever posts you have taken the time to write. Some have been good, some interesting and others have been pretty harsh.
But what perturbs me the most is that fact that you tolerate the disgusting and disrespectful trash which gets written about Kenny Dalglish. No Liverpool fan would do that, EVER!
So I ask again, are you running an experiment for a sociology class?
If you feel that you have to block this post, feel free to email me and we can discuss it there, like adults, as opposed to binning the post and sweeping it under the carpet, so to speak.
They have shown on the replays that Suarez's and Szczesny's shin made contact. Did Szczesny call Suarez a diver in his interview?
ReplyDeletePity Johnson wasn't on the pitch when Kelly missed kicked from 2 yards out.
iam an arsenal fan, the last few years arsenal was dominating the pitch in every game they played, and last season manu was completley rubbish, and what happened at the end of the season they won the epl and arsenal, was in pool postion to lose thier place in the champion leauge, so if we talk about it now every body will remember manu won the epl, and iam sure no body will remember arsenal performance, so i believe reults talk not performance even after couple of weeks every body will say arsenal won the game not liverpool has the better performance, i wish u a hard luck in ur upcoming fixtures and wish u to replace totenham in the top 4
ReplyDeleteWasn't it Henderson who crossed it for the og with Suarez ready to shoot?
ReplyDeleteI'm not one of Henderson's fans he seems to be missing forwards like Bent,Gyan and Welbeck who play on the shoulder of defenders and seriously lacks confidence but did try and impose himself today. Would like to see Shelvey be given more of a chance and wouldn't even have brought Henderson in the first place.
Arsenal were their for the taking even though they have won
ReplyDelete3 of their last 4 put 5 past Spurs week after being 2 nil down?
Didn't Kuyt partner Suarez up front today? It wasn't Dalglish big money signings but an old signing in Kuyt who missed the penalty but had good game linking up with Suarez again.
Great post and 100% agree
ReplyDeleteHenderson actually played with some existence today, I like his contribution and Downing wasn't that bad but he could do better. Kuyt played very sharp today, some of the passes he made should warrant him a place ahead of Carroll who doesn't have that ability at all. But Adam was just beyond awful. He is so badddd. I don't understand, I think hes playing this bad on purpose. His corners were off, his whole passing game was off. On the few occasions Arsenal did attack he was bypassed so easily. He needs to use his arms to get past players, and he attentionally fouls because hes awful at tackling. The worst thing is we didn't have a player to replace him. Honestly as a fan, I'm not as bothered to much with the results because it became apparant that they would never reach 4th. Believing and hoping can do nothing really, when it comes to the inconsistency of the new signings this season. Guess we gotta look forward to Europa League.
ReplyDeleteThing about RVP that it has took him till the age of 27/28 before he has come prolific in the Premier League up until last season he had never scored more then 11 in the league.
ReplyDeleteStill hope for our forwards!
Winning the League Cup has got us back into Europe which is a step forward from last season any Cup win after going 6 years without winning anything is a success.
ReplyDeleteThe ones who really enjoyed last weeks Cup win were the players brought by Rafa like Skrtel, Agger and especially Kuyt if we had treated the FA Cup and League Cup with a bit more respect under Rafa after 06 may be we wouldn't have comments putting down the club and the 40k that went to Wembley and enjoyed Liverpool winning again.
As soon as I saw the teamsheet without Agger and Gerrard I had a nasty feeling that we are in trouble and Carragher was in for a tough ride. But then we play better than I expected and we still lost. Someone please tell me........can we have so much bad luck for not having proven 20 goal a season goalscorer. Its kind like a curse is upon us now, but then again do not want to say that too loud as some of our players and some deluded fans with start to use that as an excuse. I think Champs league for us was always going to be tough after 1 year, atleast we are in europe and FA Cup we have to win now to make up for not getting 4th place.
ReplyDeletePETITION FOR: JOHN W. HENRY, THOMAS WERNER, DAMIEL COMOLLI, IAN AYRE
ReplyDeletehttp://www.ipetitions.com/petition/jose-mourinho-should-replace-kenny-dalglish-as/
Us LFC fans must wake up and stop accepting average players.
ReplyDeleteHendo, Carroll, Downing and Adam have been the worst transfers i have ever seen bar Shevchenko and konchesky.
These players belong in an average team.
100mil wasted.
Please don't give me that crap that they are for the future.
You need good players to build a future on, not mid table players.
Give Suso, Sterling and Morgan a chance.
YNWA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who are the deluded fans? The ones that support the club what ever happens? Or the ones that thinking spending money guarantees fourth place?
ReplyDeleteWHAT DID I SAY AGES AGO ?
ReplyDeleteI warned here on your excellent site that we would not get 4th spot based on the players we bought.
Too many fans want there ears tickled and INSIST on not realising the mistake is the MANAGER.
Dalglish was RIGHT to come in at the clubs darkest hour.
Dalglish was RIGHT to be appointed until the end of last season.
It was WRONG awarding him a 3 year contract it was a backward step and we are seeing the results of that now.
You cannot BLAME players as they were BOUGHT by DALGLISH and are playing as they played before.
(Please don't mention Comolli as its been stated many times final say is Kenny Dalglish)
John Henry and Tom Werner need to take URGENT ACTION in removing Kenny Dalglish at the end of the season and replace him with a Manager who HAS NOT BEEN OUT OF THE GAME FOR TEN YEARS.
The FANS on this and many others NEED TO TAKE OFF THERE ROSE TINTED GLASSES ABOUT DALGLISH.
I'll say cus it appears too many of you are scared to say it.
Kenny is suing up the goodwill of the fans and no matter how much you fans who continue to support failure say it.
4th Spot is more important than the Carling Cup.
Finally, note how MUCH ARSENAL HAVE NOT SPENT THIS SEASON AND HOW MUCH WE HAVE.
This is an unfolding disaster in terms of finance/ player purchasing/prestige/goodwill.
HONESTY OVER HOPE
Blame the Manager

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely correct!!!!
ReplyDeletePeople like you are baffling!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe ones that can't take criticism of the club and the players
ReplyDeletebring rafa back!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, the standards have dropped so low, if that is the 'best' we have done this season. Failed to score against a shocking Arsenal side.
ReplyDeleteIt was quite a below-par cross that the defender should have dealt with but fluffed it. So puh-leez don't get desperate and give Hendo big praise for that.
ReplyDeleteI really do think that we need new players, not a new manager. With Meireles in the team instead of Adam or Henderson we would have won for sure. I think we have a good base in form of the defense (if Agger can stay fit) but we have problem in the striker department and an offensive midfielder that can score goals - like Stevie G of old. Adam, Carroll and Henderson are good against Championship-teams in the cups but against Arsenal, Manure etc..? Oh no. I have more hope for Downing.
ReplyDeleteWe really need to buy high profile players come summer but how on Earth do we convince a Cavani or a Huntelaar to come to a mediocre club? Europa League is a weak argument. LFC is a great club but we really need to shape up if this slide downhill is going to stop.
suarez didnt dive as agreed by all pundits on sky tv after the game the ref got it spot on.
ReplyDeleteTruth hurts, its never nice, by the way if u cannot read properly then let me get you some private lessons in your own language (ENGLISH)!!! Read properly and get ur facts right before wasting my time. You can let ur standards drop but some of us have a winning mentality with do or die attitude. Bunch of pussies you lot...
ReplyDeleteThe defender didn't deal with it. Think Henderson has to take any luck/praise that comes his way.
ReplyDeleteHe did have one of his better game today and you can't deny it but then again it wouldn't be to hard after some of his performances this season.
It is easy to criticise and slag players off.
ReplyDeleteErrrrrrr WHAT WAS THE SCORE TODAY DELUDED FAN,ADAM SHITE TODAY CARR out of his depth!! TALK FACTS - WHERE ARE WE IN THE LEAGUE AND WHERE ARE NEWCASTLE, ARSENAL WHO HAVE SPENT HOW MUCH OVER THE LAST 12MONTHS. COME BACK WITH SOME REAL FACTS BEFORE MAKING PUSSY COMMENTS DELUDED FAN AND I REST MY CASE!
ReplyDeleteFinally a fan with some standards, thank you, is it me but have some fans become immune to losing and are referred to as loserpools!!
ReplyDeleteToo-shay, I will say now if Downing for example becomes a natural winger than an ASSIST PERSON before the end of the season, I'll come online, hold my hands up and admit my fault....take it like a man. Not sure I'm seeing the same from the otherside who live in a fish bowl.
ReplyDeleteToday was a MASSIVE setback for Liverpool FC. I've backed Kenny all season, given him the benefit of the doubt. However, after today, I've come to the realisation that maybe this job isn't for him.
ReplyDeleteTo lose a game after you've outplayed a team convincingly and when the game stats read the home side should have been the eventual winners, I'm sorry the players and the managers should be ashamed.
All this talk of playing well and unable to convert chances is now boring and not excusable anymore. Dalglish prepares the team and selects the players and therefore he has to take full ownership of results.
I can't for the life of me understand why it took Kenny 80mins to bring on his best player? it's suicidal. Both Maxi and Bellamy should have come on at 70mins. For heavens sake 4th spot and champions league is on the line! instead we waited until van persie to score for Carroll to come on to rescue us.
Why does Kenny persist with Suarez? he can't score goals so i can't see what he's offering the team. This kid is a slightly better version than Chicarito but less deadly. Whats does that say? overated?
Worst day of our season was today, 4th spot is gone and most likely we'll be out of the FA cup. I can't see us score more than 2 goals in 90mins.
What standards and winning mentality are you talking about then which era ? Over 20 years now since we won the league been watching Liverpool throwing money at useless players for the last 20 years now foreign and British under British and foreign managers.
ReplyDeleteThe post wasn't an attack at you but a lot of people like to use the word deluded, the modern fan thinks you can wave a magic wand and everything will come right after 2 years of pain now that is deluded. I defend the players but I would n't have brought any of them Adam is to slow,Henderson wasn't needed(Shelvey),Downing, we could have blooded Tom Ince,David Amoo and Eccelston even kept Babel, Carroll what I saw of him at Newcastle he has got it he just needs to find it again. I wouldn't have made Kenny manager would have gone for Louis Van Gaal.
Thanks KD you are a legend and you tried your best. Now lets pick up the phone and call Rafa.
ReplyDeleteKenny Dalglish is a Liverpool legend. I don't need to list what he has done for this football club, both as a player and a manger. He led the club and city through it's darkest hour after Hillsborough and left after the stress of that became too much. We should all be thankful for Kenny to be ours, he defines the club. Seeing him come back after Hodgson was amazing. As a 23 year old fan, I had always dreamed about seeing him as manager, just to get a feel slightly for a the 1980's. I loved it the second half of last season, we really progressed and was playing some good football and Kenny installed passion and love the like hadn't been seen since the Benitez era. It was just great and the Fulham game remains the highest point of that, memorable, everyfing seemed to fit.
ReplyDeleteBut I always though throughout, from day 1 to when it was announced that he shouldn't be made full time manager. I don't know what it was, something didn't seem 'right' about making him full-time manager. Not to repeat all that's gone before, I think Dalglish must resign at the end of the season. Time for LFC to bring in a new manager, reinvigorate a sqaud that is flat (Carling Cup win covers A LOT). This summer, Mourinho, Guardiola and Benitez are potentially available. Managers of that calibre being available in abundance in future summers may not be in supply. I'm not saying they will all come to us, but I am just saying, there is a potential "world class manager" merry go round to happen.
Time for Dalglish to do the job Rafa wanted him to do when brought him back (and not what Purslow fobbed him off doing) and that is to continue to be a great servant away from the managers seat. Thank you Dalglish, you came when we needed you but it's time to do the best for Liverpool Football Club
Redman TV asked the question put your hand up if you have seen Liverpool win the title?
ReplyDeleteHe went neither have I!If you are talking league titles we have been loserpool for 22 years and counting.
Most young fans live of our history and how great we were! Kenny is trying to fix 22 years of not having a winning mentality not 6 years or 7 years.
never would i bring back rafa. he was worse than kenny. If we want the league title, then we need to swallow our pride, pick up the phone, get on our knees and ask Mourinho. He can win the title for us.
ReplyDeleteOK, we'll wait until they are in their late 20s shall we and before that time comes, we should up with their rubbish finishing(!)
ReplyDeleteExcuses, excuses, excuses
Quite desperate really, for anyone to claim that as some sort of 'yeh, i'm the man, i put the cross in, so its all on me'. He got lucky.
ReplyDeleteIf you can't support us when we lose or draw, don't support us when we WIN -Bill Shankly- YNWA!
ReplyDeleteVAN PERSIE'S goal scoring return of average 11 was due to his injury history..since he came to arsenal he has vever played more than 20 games a season cos os injury...fortunately he has been able to stay injury free this season...it was nt that he was not good
ReplyDeletewas the contact enough for him to jump and hold his sheen like a hammer waS USED ON HIM...IT WAS A BLATTANT DIVE......THEATRICAL!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteEasier to wait for a player that cost £3m (especially when their are other strikers in the squad that score goals), than it is for players that cost £20m+ and £30m+. Liverpool can not afford such wastage in the short term.
ReplyDeleteThat's Barcelona's mentality too btw.
ReplyDeleteI will agree with whoever said it was our best or one of our better performances of the season. We played Arsenal off the pitch. They hardly got a meaningful sniff as a team. It was in this game however, that individual performances made the telling difference. One lapse by Pepe, one blunder by Carragher and an excellent day for a service starved Van Persie won them the match. The new boys are finally beginning to gel together nicely and we zipped the ball faster around the pitch than Arsenal. It is inevitable that any team will lose the ball at times, and it was Arsenal we played against. Full credit to our boys and management we made Arsenal look poor.
ReplyDeleteNonetheless, I will also agree with the call for a natural finisher in the mould of RvP, RvN or David Villa. Maybe RvW could be our answer, but we'll never know. I never thought we should always blame poor luck for our failure to finish chances, but I think we can definitely say that about this game. We've been creating the 'good chances' against Arsenal that fans like myself have been baying for all season. By contrast, Arsenal took full advantage of the type of half chances our boys typically created throughout the season - one man, a split second. RvP is indeed in a class of his own and if not for him, Arsenal would have deservedly lost. However, making such a signing is also down to luck, and as we all know, RvP had never been too lucky with injuries.
If you did watch the match, you would have seen we proved we were the better team with the superior tactics; but they showed us what we were missing in that 1 player who could make the difference in the results. However, we mustn't forget that good performances will always increase our chances of winning and but for very rare individuals like RvP, it would be unlikely we'd lose. We've never played like this the rest of the season and that itself is an encouraging sign. If we can play like this for all our remaining games and then take it into next season, I believe we will be winning more games.
we battered arsenal but that game sums up our season, we are not confident in front of goal and something needs to be done. if you look at arsenal, they had only 2 clear chances and they fell to RVP, what did he do, he stuck the ball in the back of the net. liverpool need a clinical finisher, someone who gets a chance and puts it away. At the momnet we are dominating teams in terms of possession, shots, corners, and general football played. when it come to putting the ball in the back of the net we miss a fowler, rush, owen; a player that finishes these quality moves off. Against the top teams this season we have domintated all games bar the game at tottenham. the one thing that we lack in all of these drawn games and hard to believe losses, is clinical finishing. I have never seen us miss so many chances and penalties. As a liverpool fan the confidence is so low in terms of finishing that i feel we will miss a penalty more than we will score it, it has got that bad. Our defence is good , our general play has been good but the one thing that has defined liverpools season has been a lack of clinical finishing. In my mind KK has got us playing good football and competing, no longer do we just defend against the top sides, we attack and have seen we play the better football. Liverpool are not in crisis as we all know are major failing and it is clinical finishing. We can have a go at certain players but if you look at the overall picture, it is putting the ball in the back of the net is why we are not up their challenging for the title. If KK can get a player that can finish these moves off then we will be a force to be reckoned with next season.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I thought Kelly was positively awful going forward. The amount of times he crossed and hit the first man, or didn't cross early enough was atrocious. Suarez was shouting at him eventually and apparently they hada little tiff in the dressing room.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention he missed an open goal.
ReplyDeleteNo, no it's not. Considering Barcelona score 3-4 goals per game. To even compare Liverpool to Barcelona is laughable.
ReplyDeleteWe were worse than Arsenal all game. Pepe had to pull off two or three saves that would have otherwise made it 4-1 to them.
ReplyDeleteHe's a crap finisher, but he's playing with some absolutely appalling players. This guy plays with some special players for Uruguay and then has to work alongside players who should be at mid table clubs or even the Championship.
ReplyDeleteIt's Damien Comolli who oversees transfers at the club. That means he's responsible for these crap signings. Dalglish is equally as bad for continuing to play them, though and therefore they should all be sacked.
ReplyDeleteI never said he wasn't good but has still took him till the age of 27 to become injury free and prolific scorer on the levels of Torres,Shearer,Drogba, Nistelrooy or a Fowler if you look at RVP record he has played more then 20 games in a season 6 times out of 8.
ReplyDeleteIf a player has potential and if Arsenal are prepared to give a player a chance why not,are you saying Suarez and Carroll don't deserve more then 1 season to prove themselves?
ReplyDeleteWe needed another forward one that is more forward running.
West Brom are 4 points behind us. That's the same Roy Hodgson who was a failure at Liverpool. Dalglish is a fricking muppet. so is Comolli and so are CHAD. Total clear out is needed this Summer.
ReplyDeleteFIFA rules for a free kick/penalty you don't even have to make contact to give a free kick/penalty if the intent is there for a foul a free kick/penalty can be awarded seeing that your keeper charged at Suarez which in it self is a foul and TV replays have proved there was contact then a penalty was the right decision.
ReplyDeleteArsenal were able to wait as they had Bergkamp and Henry ahead of him performing to a high level while RVP developed. We have Dirk Kuyt...
ReplyDeleteWhy did Dalglish, yet again, wait until so late to do anything at all??
ReplyDeleteIt's not unlucky when you're players are just proven not good enough to score goals
ReplyDeleteBergkamp left in 06 Henry left in 07
ReplyDeleteArsenal haven't won anything since 05 even now RVP is firing they still aren't going to win anything but look the team who will grab 4th.
Not really that bothered the reasons why in the end RVP is going to 29 in August how long would we have given Torres to prove his class again in the end Suarez and Carroll deserve a chance to prove themselves if RVP has been given 7 years to really prove his potential.
How can you say we were worse than Arsenal all game when Arsenal have said themselves they were not in the game first half.
ReplyDeleteReina saved them so they don't really count just like us hitting the woodwork and the keeper saving the penalty and follow up don't count.
Im sick and tired of this "rebuilding" story how about "building on". Forget top 4 think noy below 7th place! Carling cup a joke, FA cup NO hope.
ReplyDeleteKelly is first and foremost far more reliable as right back than Johnson. I (and many others) have said/written many times that Johnson would be far more useful as winger, which in part answers your statement about Kelly having been poor offensively v Arsenal.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to disagree on the clear chances and better football. We did play the better football this game, but our team play had been terrible up to this point. To me, Brighton was the turning point where our new signings were suddenly beginning to realise how to fit in. Domination, stats and a solid defence are all down to hard work and we cannot fault our players on that because aside from Carroll, we've only signed players with such a work ethic.
ReplyDeleteKenny getting our players to play better is both a myth and reality at the same time. He certainly did so during the 80s and when he took over from Roy last season. However, for most part of this season, our boys have been dross going forward. I've once complained we do not create solid chances the way Manure, and only Manure, does. This changed in the game against Arsenal. The fluidity and sense of purpose is finally there. We created fantastic chances, but failed to score.
Arsenal fluffed their only clear chance - which fell to Walcott. RvP only had half chances, the type we create consistently, the type even Torres cannot score from. But RvP buried them because he's RvP.
Daglish: Adam, Henderson, Carroll, Downing. Rafa: Torres, Alonso, Reina, Macherano, Lucas etc. Now lelts pick up the phone and call Rafa.
ReplyDeleteHe might be a slightly better defender than Johnson, but fullbacks these days need to be able to go forward too. Look at Alves, Cole, Rafael, Evra, Sagna etc. in that sense he's a very limited option. He would make an excellent centre back but nothing more than an ok right back.
ReplyDeleteJohnson would be a good winger, but if you have Kelly playing right back at the same time you lose the threat of an overlapping run that Johnson would bring if he were playing fullback, because Kelly just doesn't have the skill.
What it really highlights is that Liverpool desperately need a skillful wide player on the right, who will cut in and allow Johnson to overlap, or go wide and allow Johnson to shoot on his left foot.
You don't deserve to win unless you put the ball in the back of the net. The object of the game isn't to see who controls the ball the most, or who hits the post the most, or even who can score the least penalties. It's about scoring more goals than the opposition. There is only one man responsible for these shit displays and that is Kenny Dalglish because he bought the players and he continues to play them. They belong in lower leagues
ReplyDeleteHow Maxi can start for Argentina last week and play well, and then not be able to get a game ahead of Downing and Henderson is crazy. Dalglish so obviously has a fetish for British players.
ReplyDeleteReina kept us in it with two sharp saves against Walcott. We were our same old crap selves. Ok build up, but then an aimless cross that hits the first man, or someone trying to hit a shot so hard it hits the post when it would have been so much easier to square it back to a team mate and score. Kuyt missed another penalty for Pete's sake! We were awful. Please don't listen to what Kenny says.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how football can change so easily. If we had won yesterday everyone would be saying what a great performance it was completely outplaying arsenal, after having won the first trophy for 6 years the week before. We'd have been 4 points behind with a game in hand. Then Chelsea lose and Newcastle draw, we'd be laughing. But two great goals from rvp and now we're 10 points behind them and many fans are slating the squad despite the performance. The seasons been poor generally but there are signs that we are getting there. We have been unlucky and it makes me laugh that when we do play well it's only because the opposition have benn 'terrible'. Not that we have made them look bad
ReplyDeleteI would definitely prefer a defensively minded reliable right back+winger than a right back who in almost half of the 1-on-1 situations lets the attacking players past him and into the box for killer crosses+winger.
ReplyDeleteAlso, don't just judge Kelly's attacking skills from the Arsenal game, especially taking into account that he doesn't get many games in a row to keep his shape (and in this case, overlapping skills) up. I can recall him making very good overlaps and crosses in 2010-2011 season.
If Johnson's such a bad defender, why do Liverpool have the second best defensive record in the league?
ReplyDeleteActually I was listening to what Arsenal players said.
ReplyDeleteAshley Young - cost the same or possibly less than Downing...destroyed spurs today own his own, scores goals and takes players on. Now u would have to admit its a bigger step up from villa to man utd but u dont see him or the fans making excuses about giving him a season to settle in. i think again our buying/negotiation abilities are to be questioned bigtime. Carroll 35m and Aguero the same price and we all know the impact he has had at city. Once the season is over i hope we learn from theses examples before making any further big investments otherwise it will be many more years of suffering of not being able to compete in the champions league or for the premiership title.
ReplyDeleteoh dear, oh dear
ReplyDeleteWhat about games 'started' in PL per season? Its not that high at all.
ReplyDelete£3m is enough for people to be patience for ages. Whereas £20m+ and £30m+, there is less patience and rightly so. Rather desperate to suggest otherwise.
ReplyDeleteSuarez chance was easy for any good striker, including a peak Torres comfortably. The RVP header goal was easy as the cross was good, decent movement and rubbish defending. You don't have to be RVP to score that goal. Odd excuses you make for Liverpools strikers ineptitude and failings.
ReplyDeleteYou are prepared to wait 6 years for RVP to get fit and start firing but you won't pass on the same patience to our own players! RVP is 29 this year, Carroll is 23 and Suarez is 25 and have not even played a full season of 38 league games yet.
ReplyDeleteAbout 19 games started a season. When you look at RVP record it's no surprise Arsenal have struggled since Henry/Adebayor left. We kept waiting for Torres to get fully fit and Rafa paid the price for not having another first choice forward.
ReplyDeleteThat record is down to many factors, and if Johnson was a better defender, that record would be best in the league. Also, he's been personally and directly responsible for several goals this season after making mistakes a right back shouldn't be making often.
ReplyDeleteExactly!! FIRE DALGISH NOW!!! This clown has proven time and time again that he is a clueless inept manager and does not have what it takes to manage in the EPL. The game has passed him by and the clueless morons at NESV are placating the fans at the expense of the club! ... FIRE DALGLISH NOW!!!
ReplyDeletePlease do not personally insult KD, or anyone else. Make your point but without name-calling. Thanks (Post edited)
ReplyDeleteJohnson > Kelly
ReplyDeleteFor £20m+ and for £30m+, one would expect a decent level of finishing and overall performances, from the word go. At the end of the day, when you spend that amount of money, you expect something substantial in the short term, not just the long term. To suggest otherwise, is simply to make a disrespectful mockery of the money that was spent on them.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, its all down to Johnson as to why Liverpool have such a good defensive record(!)
ReplyDeleteO'Shea was a regular part of the record clean sheet run that the Mancs got a few seasons ago, you going to tell me that O'Shea is a world class defender based on that?
There are plenty of comments in the public domain by both Dalglish and Commoli that illustrate that Dalglish is responsible for transfer policy/signings too.
ReplyDeleteJohnson is a much, much better player than O'shea. He's nowhere near as bad a defender as you're making him out to be. And yes, he's PART of a four man defense, I never said all.
ReplyDeleteKelly is a typical British defender. Good size, speed, strength, but no touch. He will make an excellent centre back but he doesn't have the skill to play as a fullback in the modern game. Unless you want to do a four man centre back defense like Stoke.
I'm just surprised how many people still resort to saying how well we played and how we deserved to win. Many of us said that things were wrong with the team months ago, but, after being painted at traitors by some supporters, those supporters are now scratching their head saying what a 'funny game' football is and how we would only be four points behind Arsenal with a win. That was the problem in the first place. No going back, Benitez had his time, we should move Dalglish on and bring in a new manager in the summer. I'd sooner have Villas-Boas running the team, to be honest. Don't see things getting better anytime soon. The standard of the teams breathing down our neck is embarrassing. With no league place to play for, just the cup, a European spot in the bag already, I can see the team slipping down the league. The trip to Sunderland is not going to be a walk in the park.
ReplyDeleteAndy-
ReplyDeleteFrom a attacking sense, he is better than O'Shea, much better but defensively, not much between them and would say O'Shea is marginally better in that regard. Johnson is dodgy defensively and for that amount of money, one would expect better defensively, much better.
We have a very good defensive record this season but Johnson and Reina have been error prone this season. A defensive record is a testament to the overall back four and more importantly, the team, rather than individual players.
Liverpool cheated quite a bit. The challenge on Arteta was one where it went too far!!
ReplyDelete
