In January, Liverpool legend Bruce Grobbelaar tantalisingly revealed that Kenny Dalglish was tracking a Holland-based Uruguayan striker. FC Groningen's David Texeira is rumored to be the player in question, and this was confirmed by Tim Vickery, the BBC's South American football expert. Now, the young striker himself has responded to the Liverpool transfer rumours.
In his interview with TalkSport, Grobbelaar hinted that Liverpool were interested in signing TWO strikers in the January transfer window:
"There are two strikers [Liverpool are interested in]. I know that [Kenny Dalglish] is looking at a South American striker who is playing in Holland and I know that he’s quite close in getting another striker".
After his hat-trick against NEC in Decemeber, Texeira spoke to reporters, and shrugged off the effusive praise being thrown his way. He said:
"A phenomenon is a big word. Football is a team sport, so we do everything together. I always try my best for the team and try to make contribution with goals. I am just happy that things are going well for us."
This week, Texeira was asked about the rumours linking him with a move to Liverpool, and he told TuttoMercato that he was not yet ready to move to England. He said:
"I have heard rumors, but they have nothing to do with me. I think it is too early to go to a big club, I need more experience".
Texeira is only 20, and it seems that he has a good head on his shoulders with those comments. He's a regular for Groningen, which means he's learning and improving every week in a competitive environment.
If he came to Liverpool now, he's probably spend most of his time on the bench, which would be no good for his development.

We certainly need to sign quality strickers and midfielders, someone like Cavani and Levezzi... Its clear we are going no where withthe likes of Carroll and Henderson..
ReplyDeleteLike how he says football is a team sport as some modern players play for themselves!
ReplyDeletesell caroll, downing, hendo then sign him david texeira, lavezzi, cavani or higuain
ReplyDeleteExcept to Wembley, possibly two or even three times.
ReplyDeletei think we should get rafa benitez back and then let him decide our transfer policy
ReplyDeleteDont want to come to a country where is a sadistic press...and some people too
ReplyDeleteAll you people still slating Carroll, have you not been watching Liverpools recent games? Hes improved dramtically. His touch, his hold up play, his passing, hes scored and got assists and has also been chipping in with some good tackling and tracking back.
ReplyDeleteAs for Henderson, he is young and improving, why on earth would you want rid of him.
Some of you make me embarrsed to be Liverpool supporter.
no! we don't a mid fielder, a box stricker would be a signing for liverpool.
ReplyDeletewe do not need a mid fielder coz Lucas is still sidelined with injury which will be like a new singing for Liverpool if he comes back. get for us a box striker or bring for us Torres back to Anfield.
ReplyDeleteHe'd be great at playing in the hole.
ReplyDeleteWe need another good holding midfielder precisely because of Lucas' injury. It is the position most likely to earn a player suspensions as well, as we've seen with Spearing at Fulham. Some of us are fine with Spearing, but most of us are in agreement he is more of a squad player than someone who should start regularly. Much of our play is reliant on a holding mid and it was disastrous for us with both Lucas and Spearing out.
ReplyDeleteArsenal has shown us at the start of the season you can never have too many holding midfielders with Diaby injured and Song suspended - and lo and behold, Frimpong got suspended too.
No such thing as ' coming too early'. Either you come or you dont.
ReplyDeleteDiaby has never ever played for us as a holding midfielder. He is a attacking midfielder who has played for us a central midfielder. Has never played for us at in a holding role/defensive midfield role. Bemused.
ReplyDeleteiam one of liverpool suport then i want
ReplyDeleteby cavani..............<3
ReplyDeletehere here lad iv have not been the greatest fan of them both but been watchin lately and carrol looks like a different player the game the othere week he fell over 1 time in 45 mins now that not all hes improved all of the above you stated is true and with hendo i didn like him at first but hes growing i think adam shud be shown the door hes garbage mite have a corner or a dead ball on him but cabnt track back slow as fek bit of a t*t get rid i say.
