Bad news for Liverpool as €40m winger reveals 'interest' in Spurs...

Lille winger Eden Hazard is the type of player Liverpool fans would love to see at Anfield, but based on the player's latest comments on his future, it seems he has a preference for playing in London.

Speaking to Belgian TV channel RTBF yesterday, Hazard - who plays alongside Liverpool loanee Joe Cole for Lille (and was optimistically rated at €40m by Lille director Jean-Michel Vandamme recently) - clarified his position on a rumoured move to Spurs:

"Spurs is a rumour. It is a club that interests me, of course, because they have great players and a great coach.

"I think that I can learn the best there [in the Premier League] because there are big matches every week, even with the little teams, big matches with great atmospheres.

"I have not signed anything yet - it is too early. At the moment I want to focus on Lille."

Hazard also conceded that it would be difficult to go to Spain at this stage of his career:

"Spain is perhaps the best place for my style of play, but I think that you have to be at either Barca or Real Madrid to win titles there. It is harder to play at a big club at my age."

So, what have we learned:

* Hazard favours a move to the Premier League.

* He wants to play with 'great players' and be managed by a 'great manager'

* He accepts that it would be difficult to make his mark at one of the world's top clubs right now.

Spurs appear to be in pole position but Liverpool should (IMO) definitely pursue Hazard. If the club makes it into the Champions League (fingers crossed!), then the chances of signing the player would increase exponentially.

Liverpool legend John Barnes is not convinced though, as he revealed on LFC TV recently:

"We have to be realistic about who we can get, and while we have been linked with a lot of big names, such as David Villa, Eden Hazard and Bastein Schweinsteiger, At this moment in time, I don't think they will be coming to Liverpool"

  1. Liverpool should have signed Shaqiri who was a realistic target and just as good but Hazard would be very difficult to get and almost impossible without champions league.

  2. Totally agree. I still feel sick that such a great opportunity to sign Shaqiri was missed.

  3. agree and ask myself why didn t we sign him or dyer?ynwa

  4. If Spurs are willing to cough up the £40 million they are welcome to him. I am getting a little tired of "mercenaries" floating around from cash-pile to cash-pile. he is definitely NOT worth that sort of money.

  5. I think with the trend of signing young and british, we are going for Dyer and Sinclair type of players this summer..

  6. he is saying it now but when offers start coming in he will overlook spurs their wage cap is too small probably will go to chelsea or madrid

  7. We can still have Marko Marin who is as good as Hazard or Shaqiri. Hope Comolli is reading this!

  8. No chance that he would come to us, never.

  9. We simply haven't got a chance.

Lets hope Spurs get Hazard, than we should go for Aaron Lennon.

But boy, what a midfield they will have

    Hazard-Parker/Sandro-Modric-Bale

That pees all over our midfield, that is for sure.

Good shout about Marin, don't know about him being as good as Hazard will become as the Belgian has got huge potential, huge but definitely a busy tricky wide player, at least on the level of Lennon.

Reckon KK will be interested in Dyer of Swansea, right up his street.....British.

Even if we make Champions League football, I do not see us spending all that money on one player so soon into getting back into Champions League.

Its either Spurs or Chelsea, me thinks, for Hazard. A very slim chance of it being either of the mancs.

  10. None of you are prepared to admit that the reason we are not attracting players of Hazards quality is partially down to the Manager.

Kenny Dalglish is out of touch and in my view will be moved on in summer.
Rightly so considering the money he has spent and the lack of quality shown by those signings with the exception of Suarez.

    HONESTY OVER HOPE

  11. Spurs' great manager won't be there in likelihood next season

Hazard won't go to Spurs or Liverpool, if he as good as the hype makes him out to be

City, Chelsea, PSG or big 2 Spanish sides are probably the only ones who could afford him

  12. Does anyone really think Spurs can afford £40 million for a player?
They can't even afford to pay Adeybayor's wages with out help from City!

  13. What do we know about Shaqiri's personality / willingness to move to the UK?

He probably has fluent German so no surprise he's made his first big move there

He looked amazing whenever I saw him this year but always seemed like a pipe dream that we might get him

  14. One thing paying for wages, and another paying a transfer fee. The two are not always linked together, in terms of how much a club can pay in terms of wages or transfer fees. For example, Arsenal spend less on transfer fees than Spurs but Arsenal have a higher wage bills than Spurs.

  15. He his going to want £125k a week! £6 million a year 5 year contract £30 million plus £40 million Spurs the next Rangers! Not being in this years Champions League Spurs have been balancing the books with the players that have left either on loan or sold, give them a few seasons in the Champions League and the new stadium then we might see Spurs spending £70 million on one player. Don't think their owners would spend that sort of cash even if they did have it.

  16. Certainly not worth that kind of money.. Id pay that for messi or villa.. Wont pay a third what we foolishly paid for carroll or henderson as well..
Shagiri wd hv been a very good signing, dyre will be as well..

  17. Again, wages and transfers aren't always so closely related.

It all depends on whether Spurs get CL qualification, than they will be able forecast that they will get beyond the group stages (no one is guaranteed to qualify from group stage but in terms of budgeting, they consider the value of getting past the group stage) to get more money and who they sell in the transfer window (both in terms of value of transfer and wages).

So its not unrealistic and its not easy either but any club with ambitions to be a regular top 4 club and to increase the gap between themselves and non-top 4 clubs like Liverpool, will consider making a big buy, if the circumstances are right. So don't laugh it off just yet.

  18. Think football has had another wake up call with what  ambition can do to a club with Rangers going into administration if it can happen to a team that gets 50k home crowds Champions League Football it certainly could happen to Spurs in trying to punch above their weight like Leeds.

  19. we should get llorente

  20. The only player I think Liverpool should get is Fernando..... Fernando Llorente

  21. Spurs are far and away run in a different way to Leeds and Rangers and are consistently in the top 20 richest clubs list(this year 11th). The revenue is there, make no mistake. Spurs have had bids in excess of 25m knocked back in the last year for big players. The money is there. Spurs are a shoe in for the CL next year and i can assure you that a bid of 30m and wages to Hazard for 100k a week is a real possibility. There is not a lot of difference to Spurs as club, as was to Arsenal as a club when they were growing under Wenger. Whether HR leaves Tottenham or not, there are a lot of good managers available who can pick up where HR left it.

  22. Agreed...kk has blown over 110 million and has two players to show for it ...enrique and suarez to an extent because as a goal scorer he is lacking...bellamy came on a free.

Thanks to kk we will suffer in the summer because if we don't make it into top 4 suarez ..reina ..agger could be tempted to leave...we have no money because if we did kk would have bought in January.

Come summer we will have to sell to buy and the only commodity we have to sell is Agger ..reina ..suarez....nobody will come in to buy Adam..downing..Henderson..and Carroll.

  23. We have no chance to buy

    we have no money

thank you kenny for making us a midtable team

  24. Rangers have been in financial troubles for years but they can't handle it anymore. Secondly, they are in the SPL, so its a totally inferior league in terms of financial gain. Thirdly, Spurs chairman runs a good ship financially (look at their financial articles/reports if you can understand them), is nothing like Ridsdale of Leeds and they haven't been in bad financial trouble for years. I do truly hope your comparison to Rangers was a joke...because it has to be, as its just laughable for you to bring in Rangers as some sort of wake up call for Spurs. Comical.

We were a lot more closer to financial trouble a few years ago (g&h) than Spurs ever have been in the past decades.

I know your scared of the competition for our club but face facts, we are no longer top dog in this country and not even close anymore, sadly.

  25. We are a top 7 club thanks to kk

  26. Did n't I point that out that Spurs have been balancing their books and I can't see Spurs spending that sort of money even if they had it ? They have sold £35 million pounds worth of players this season can you really see them spending £40 million on one player?
You think Premier League Teams can carry on spending like they have? Rangers is another warning to the Premier League,we weren't far from it ourselves!  With the money being spoke about being spent by Spurs which would be more then double then there transfer record(£17 million) wouldn't put them on a slippery slope if it goes wrong? Don't forget where Spurs were when Redknapp took over BOTTOM of the Premier League!

    ReplyDelete
  27. You are having a laugh. Such jealousy. First the price is only 40million euros and secondly if you can pay £35 million then I am sure spurs can afford hazard. I know which one is the value buy.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Totteringham don't have that sort of money and the so called great coach will be long gone...Purely paper talk and who believes that ???

    ReplyDelete
  29. Talk of EIGHT PREMIER LEAGUE CLUBS going the same way as Rangers! Not saying Spurs are one of them but shows the Premier League is not immune from what has happened to Rangers!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh my god, its like you don't even read my post and regurgitate the same waffle you spouted earlier to the other fella who answered you correctly as well. I give up, you do this kind of silly behaviour on other threads too I have noticed.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This news does absolutely nothing to back up your point on Spurs...at all. Its like you saw the word 'finance trouble' and premier league clubs' and got all excited...for no reason

    ReplyDelete
  32. It's fans like me that make others feel so good about themselves(!) I like to put threads people bite at other wise what's the point of writing a thread! I could blame Jaimie and his leading headlines that get me going but I won't:)

  33. yada yada yada always soooo many excuses about why Liverpool never buys (or plays) talented young flair players!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Nobody really is worth £40m. Aside from guaranteed match winning machines like Ronaldo or Messi.

There's no point in calling a player a mercenary just because he moves to where he can make the most money though. Unless you're going to accept that the LFC squad is likewise full of mercenaries too...

    ReplyDelete
  35. You allude to one of the reasons I was desperate to see us bring in Riijkaard. Talented players would take a punt on such a manager, even if the rest of the package on offer might not be immediately as attractive as what may be on offer elsewhere...
