Aldo tells Kenny: These 4 players must start *every game* for LFC. Is he right?

With an incredible sixteen points dropped at home this season, and only one win in the last six league games, Liverpool's chances of achieving a top four spot this season look increasingly slim. It goes without saying that Kenny Dalglish must play the best team at his disposal for the club's remaining league games, and according to Anfield legend John Aldridge, there are four players who must play every single game from now until the end of the season.

Liverpool are seventh in the premier league at the moment, and still within touching distance of 4th place. However, a closer look at the club's league form reveals that Kenny Dalglish's team has failed to win (i.e. drawn and lost) more games that it has won this season.

In his column for the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge - who won two league titles with Liverpool - warned that any further defeats for the club could be disastrous, and urged Dalglish to play his best team as often as possible. He observed:

"Liverpool can't afford to have any more defeats between now and the end of the season. We just need to start winning games again and not play conservatively as the side have been guilty of this season.

"Kenny has to play Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll up front together in every game with Steven Gerrard and Craig Bellamy in support. They are the players who are capable of winning us games".

I agree with playing Suarez, Bellamy and Gerrard every game, but Carroll? Liverpool are clearly a more effective unit when Carroll is *not* in the team, and in my view, Maxi Rodrigues - if fit - should start ahead of the big man whenever possible.

Of course, this won't happen. Despite the Argentinean's goals, Dalglish doesn't seem to rate Maxi for some reason, which is strange considering he's good enough to be picked for Argentina national team.

My favoured line-up for the rest of the season:

--------------------- Reina

Johnson -------- Skrtel ---- Agger -------- Enrique

----------------- Adam -- Henderson

Maxi -------------- Gerrard ------------- Bellamy

------------------- Suarez

  1. i totally agree since we dont have another target man carrol is Ok 4 now n mind u he is improvin then if not him maybe Kuyt but he has not been himself of late so i guess i will go with Carrol,Suarez,Gerrard and Bellamy

  2. I agree with JK's lineup with the exception that I'd play Kelly as right back and Johnson as winger.

  3. To be fair on Carroll, in the last few games, for all our passing on the floor, it was the long balls to Carroll that was far more penetrative than our normal passing game such as the game against Spurs and the mancs  in the FA Cup. But of course, Suarez missed quite a few of those games.
Whatever happens next, Suarez and/or Carroll must start hitting the back of the net regularly as that is what is stopping from owning that 4th place. We have the defensive strength as a unit but we need goals too.

  4. I'd agree with Aldo, Carrolls improving by the game and the only game we've lost recently is the one he didn't start. He offers an outlet and needs to be given a run alongside both Suarez AND Gerrard. Of agree that Maxi should be utilised a bit more though. But the main person I want in the lineup or at least off te bench more is Shelvey, he looks like he'll make things happen when he's on the ball.

  5. I agree with you but I put gerrard instead of henderson and play kuyt and leave hendo out. I think hendo never played a decent game, scored only once in all this season, this speaks for itself and KK almost play him in every game.

  6.  We need to play Carroll along with Suarez as Aldo says

Maxi is a good player alright and, although you over rate him a little, he is well worth his place over Downing. I'm sick of Downing, he is pony

And his call up is probably just to make up the numbers, it can't be based on performances - he hasn't played much for Liverpool, and he hasn't played for Argentina since World Cup 2010

  7. I totally disagree! First of all Henderson is not a central midfilder, He's a nauralborn Gerrard's replacement. Next thing Adam is a terrible player according to his defensive skills. His place should take Spearing, who's a great defensive midfilder and also a much better playmaker. About Maxi it's true he should gets more time on the field, but in my opinion he can't play on the right side. I would switch him to the left side with Bellamy. The right side is still Dirk's space for me. There's no doubt that Suarez and Gerrard need to be in every each game, but I would definately give chance to the Shelvey in the centre and loose the Adam and absolutely forget about Downing

  8. Maxi had a foot problem and should be available for selection in the next game, I've read today

  9. Have you even watched liverpool's last few games, spearing cant pass!!! Better playmaker than Adam, you are having a laugh. Adam's defense has improved this season, and if you remember correctly it was his pressing and winning the ball against chelsea that provided maxi with the opputunity to score!!

  10. Jk I know you love Maxi and he does have a part to play but that part is not imo from the start in all games he was awful last time he started he can only be an impacy player

  11. Jamie kanwar shut the fuck up, Kenny makes the decisions, he knows how good Maxi and all his players are, he decides who plays not you. If Maxi is to get games it should be up front or behind the striker, he's absolutely useless as a winger.

  12. Henderson
    - Most average, ineffective, no mind , no creativity and no contribution to the
game in Liverpool squad for years!
Adam - good footballer for small clubs and not for Liverpool caliber.
Take the wrong decisions most of the time, losing lots of balls. les then
average! (spearing much better and will get better)
Maxi  - no pace nor creativity, medium squad player and much
better to bring young player instead.
Bellamy - is not a winger! he can play as a winger but that's not
his most effective position. he should play along up front with Suarez

    ReplyDelete
  13. Bellamy should be playing as a striker, he's wasted on the wing he's the only one that given chances you know he'll put most in the net. Suarez and Bellamy together = movement and pace and Carroll can be the one coming on after 60 minutes.. Downing can go play golf he's probably better at that. Maxi definitely ahead of him..

    ReplyDelete
  14. That formation should work and has done in the past but when we play it this season it just seems to turn into a 451 no one supports the forward no one breaks from midfield we end up with Adam, Gerrard and Henderson just standing in the centre of the field not moving forwards or backwards!
Carroll has done enough in his last few starts to prove he his worth his place, moving Stevie out to the right with Suarez playing behind Carroll, with Maxi missing out.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Love maxi but he's had an injury hence his ommision, Carroll has started to look sharper and sharper. He's taken a while 5 of his games in Suarez absence were a bit poor but recently we've started to see exactly what kenny saw last year and I think he will turn out to be a strong addition to the team! Downing..... Omg, when we were in for him it was like wtf??? Then I watched the friendly when Mata played at anfield and didn't get a touch but downing looked really good and at that point I thought, maybe just maybe he's what we needed but since then I can't remember a single performance that's been good enough for us! Adam is one of the guys I really wanted here but he seems to be playing as though someone's told him NOT to go forward and NOT to shoot at goal... He looks a shadow of the barnstorming player he was at Blackpool?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Not sure why Henderson gets such a raw deal on the site, young lad with plenty of attributes but taking time to find his role in the team, which is not all his fault, he'll come good. However, Maxi is essentially not good enough, while Adam was a punt at around 8m has proved not quite up to it. Downing is the biggest disappointment, and without real signs of improvement won't be there next season. Over the last few games Carroll has started to look a handful and in this form might forge a decent partnership with Suarez. Saying all that, the best peformance by one of our players this season was, by a distance, Bellamy against City, on his own, up front.

    ReplyDelete
  17. henderson is a disaster. The decision to buy him was poor. Now that he is with us, the best thing is to use him in the reserves not in the 1st team and in summer we loan him to a small/medium club to gain experience because he is young. I hope KK do not use him again because we play with 10 instead of 11.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree that Carroll has started to show some form and will only get close to what he was doing for Newcastle with a run of games it seems. That is the conundrum though, Liverpool have been better with Bellamy, Maxi and Kuyt up front. But Bellamy can't play too many consecutive games apparently, even though he has been far the best player this season. One would imagine Suarez could slip into that trio. For a one off game, do you go with the best team, or try to make the league team with Carroll work, but keep some faster players on the bench for later in the game should you need them? Carroll makes little difference coming on as sub.

For the season so far, all the new players apart from Bellamy haven't done anything. Maxi and Kuyt have been treated poorly as they've been dropped when they didn't deserve it, and players who have been much worse have continued in the team. They've all been dropped though, to little effect, but Henderson continues to
play. Baffling. I wouldn't have him on the bench from what he has shown
    so far.

    For Sunday's game I would have;

    ----------------Reina----------------

    ----Kelly---Skrtl---Agger---Enrique

    --------------Spearing---------------

    Johnson-----Gerrard----Bellamy---

    ------------Kuyt---Suarez-----------

    ReplyDelete
  19. Spearing and Adam just have very different styles. Spearing is never going to make tricky clever passes and Adam will never be able to exhibit the same energy and verve. Both players read the game very differently too as Adam is clearly attack minded and Jay tends to read the game like a defender.

I believe it was perhaps a tactical blunder that made Spearing look out of his depth against United. He seemed to be tracking Rooney all game, which meant he and Rooney were always in close quarters. As the kind of footballer he is, Rooney will press Jay as much as Jay presses Rooney. Their 2nd goal was the accident waiting to happen. He should have man marked Scholes instead.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I dont rate Adam, but even I know he is a better player than Spearing. But its true Adam is not a good tackler. And Liverpool don't have that natural tackling holding midfield player. Its the Alonso effect all over again. We looked very solid when Lucas was in the team, and the guy was improving by leaps and bounds in his attacking game too.

    ReplyDelete
  21. its better than playing Downing that has a awful game every game. His only good games were against Sunderland and Aston Villa. Points out how much effort he puts in his game.

    ReplyDelete
  22. For years? The kid has been with us for lass than a year! I will agree he hasn't been effective yet, but his skill and pace are there for all to see. Granted, he keeps playing it safe and we consequently can't benefit from his quality, but we could say the same about Lucas in 09-10 where almost every pass went backwards. We signed Lucas in 07 and he came good 3 seasons later, at the age of 23. How old is Henderson again?

I agree with your current observation on Adam, but it's not fair to say he won't get better. For him to be effective, our frontline and wide players have to perform and those players have not connected. No surprise his decisions aren't the best yet. Like Spearing, he will get more effective.

What Maxi lacks in pace or creativity he makes up with industry and ruthlessness in front of goal. Maxi always puts himself online to be the extra body in the middle of the park, which we almost never see from Downing and that Henderson forgets to do when played out wide. With your critique of Henderson and observation that Jay will get much better, is it truly better to play a young player in place of Maxi? We need his goals and experience.

As for Bellamy, I personally feel he is equally effective as a player on the left as up top. Let's not forget that while his experience is valuable up top, we won't get to utilise his pace very much. He is currently our most effective option on the left for the team, I don't think anyone can dispute that.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm sorry, but Spearing is 'a' defensive midfielder, not 'a great defensive midfielder'. If Spearing wasn't from Liverpool, he wouldn't be near the 1st team, and he probably wouldn't be at the club imho. Only because Dalglish went for British (so far a mistake) and giving some of the young players a chance (so far mixed results, and not something he has done enough of) that Spearing is playing. That and a lack of defensive midfielders at the club. If Lucas was fit, Spearing probably wouldn't be on the bench.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Know what you mean. When he misplaced his pass against Man U he sprinted back the half length of the field to get it back. I see alot of effort in his body language, kinda like Lucas was in his first few seasons. I see alot more commitment from this young lad than I see from Downing and Carroll put together. But I disagree with you about Maxi. He may have a bad game here and there, but I think its more down to age than anything. He can't produce the goods game in game out. But he has the "essential" skills to read the game which is something Downing knows peanuts about.

    ReplyDelete
  25. There's no trust and cohesion in our midfield. Adam, Gerrard and Henderson is a combination we should avoid at all costs, unless our philosophy is to outscore the opponent, which we can't do yet. Both Adam and Gerrard want to impact a game and will always impose their games. Henderson is indeed of the right personality to link the 2, but he is no defensive player. Gerrard and Adam would be perfect if Lucas also played.

However, familiarity of the midfielders with one another is still a massive issue. Gerrard simply had no one to pass to in our last match, no one to play 1-2s with, no one anticipating him and moving accordingly. Henderson was always going to go for the safe option. Adam is most effective just standing in the middle and being the last attacker to join an attack, but no surprise that's what all of them were doing.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Aquilani brings out the best in Downing and Carroll. Adam is still getting used to the team. He could dominate the play at Blackpool, but he's now part of something bigger. He's not out of his depth, but the trust and understanding around him and within him aren't there yet.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Spearing is poor. Go back and watch the game against Spurs. He gave the ball away time and again. He was woeful. I wouldn't mind, but I heard him interviewed earlier in the day, and he talked about the need to keep it simple and retain possession. In the actual game, he tried stupid passes and couldn't even play the simple ones. if Spearing is the standard of first tem midfield player Liverpool now have to relay on, the the Champions League is getting ever further away

  28. I see what Aldo is getting at. These are 4 players in particular you cannot leave unmarked and all are players defenders hate to come up against. The only problem is these 4 players aren't all on one another's wavelengths just yet, but I guess giving them all the remaining time together should remedy that.

It is a shame we never get our attackers combining well consistently and it's only our experienced attackers who do a decent job of reading the play. There is almost no connection between Suarez and either of Gerrard or Carroll. Gerrard and Carroll seems to be developing nicely. One could even say Carroll's improvement coincided with the return of Gerrard who has been giving him the service Nolan and Barton used to when he was unplayable at Newcastle. Interesting how both Nolan and Barton were ditched when Carroll was gone. Bellamy is the only one of Aldo's fantastic 4 who combines well with all other 3.

If we actually want a cohesive attacking quartet, it is hard to look beyond Suarez, Bellamy, Maxi and Kuyt. Their combination play is stunning and has certainly allowed Maxi in particular to shine. Problem is all of Kuyt, Maxi and Suarez are too slow for Gerrard to be effective with either of them. Kuyt and Maxi aren't players who typically worry defenders too much either.

If we have to play all of Gerrard, Bellamy and Carroll, we're best off with Downing on the right with Suarez benched. Without Enrique screaming at him and demanding to play pretty football, Downing will have more license to make forward runs, and he has the pace. Given the styles of Kelly and Johnson, it is unlikely Downing will have to pass backwards either. Anyone else wonder why he looks better on the right? Still the same Downing, still playing the way he knows. For all their interplay, Enrique and Downing is a poor combination. They limit and frustrate each other. But to bench our best player for our worst? Downing does look better on the right and has decent pace. The fact he's a left footer and will cut inside will enable him to take full advantage of Carroll's flick ons and Gerrard's through passes. His sole goal for us came from the right, as did all his shots that hid the woodwork.

In theory, Aldo's fantastic 4 should have what it takes to pull any defence apart, because all 4 are goal threats. However, it is still a team game and the balance between these 4 specifically just isn't right or right just yet. The only common link between our 2 best options is Bellamy and we are all aware he can't play the full 90 minutes of every game, so we will always be denied our best attacking options. Would love to see it work, but I can't see it happening. Suarez will have to make way.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It is precisely because Kuyt has been himself of late that we find him so mediocre.

    --------------Carroll------------------

Suarez, Gerrard and Bellamy would be interchanging positions with each other. I've gone for Adam for his ability with long range passing.. And Spearing can cover him for his defensive liabilities... Suarez and Bellamy would be cutting inside much often that going to the byline to cross the ball, so the need of Johnson and Enrique in the team.. Kelly can be better than Johnson defensively but not going forward.. Spearing and Adam can cover them when they are bombing forward.. They should be going to the corner flag not cutting inside and shooting as has been the case with Johnson.. He's cutting inside too much and having a shot with his left foot.. He had wasted 2 great chances in the MANU game in the first ten minutes doing that!!

  32. Mate, I like your selection but I would drop henderson and replace him with Carragher. Adam and Henderson get always get caught out of position and that forces Gerrard to play deeper then he would like. With Carragher in the holding midfield Adam And Gerrard can be free to roam and dominate the midfield

  33. Anyone that says that Hendo has to play dont know shit about football
complete and utter waste of 20mill thats that. Should be in reserves or out on loan it is disgusting that he has walked in to a club like ours and is a starter. KK must have something on the side with a member of Hendo's family or he has something on KK because this is bullshit, just think what our club has achieved and the players that have played and this is what we start in our first team now days please.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Agree with Aldo , I've said it before changing the team every other game just to give everyone a game is stupid , we don't do it with the goalie and back four so why do it with the midfield players and forwards . Pick your best eleven and stick with them , let the team blend and create understandings partnerships etc it works at the back , goals against column proves that as goals for column proves proves what we do with other does'nt , other players would still be used when injuries , suspensions , loss of form etc happen . Yes loss of form , players who don't play well enough would be dropped , they would know they have'nt been good enough , it should be an honour to be in the first team a reward for playing well , your in the team cos your the best , your proud to be in it , not because it's your turn on the rota . Also think its a bit naff of Kenny to say progress in cups shows improvement , we have always and will always let our league position be our judge , don't get me wrong it's great to be at Wembley and let's hope we are there again in may , but don't let it paper over cracks , we are 21 points off the top of the league , 14 points behind Spurs who we basically had a play off with at the end of last season for Europa place and 4 points behind Chelsea and Arsenal who are having there worst seasons in years , and 3 points worse off than Newcastle " the mighty toon " for ####s sake . That's improvement , so things are going well ? 8 draws at home , improvement ? Almost warrants another apology . We are not stupid .

  35. Jaimie Kanwar I totally agree with you.Carroll should be dropped to the bench and should be fielded at say the 70th minute or later when we are winning.Maxi should take his place. However as you said, KK is still trying to justify why he paid such  a huge amount for an underrated Liverpool rater.
If we seriously need 4th spot,KK should play Maxi ahead of Carroll

  40. A 433 might suit better then with Bellamy through the middle with Suarez on the right and Maxi on the left

you will have to drop Henderson though with Gerrard/Adam/Downing the 3 in the middle.

  41. Look at Adam´s work rate. Every game his has the most km. I´m not saying he´s a great player but there is more movement when he is playing. If you saw the Man u game there was NO movement.

  42. LFC Blinkers have you blinded mate...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Its abundantly clear that LFC have alot of DEAD WEIGHT. Until we cut out the cancer that is Downing, Spearing, Henderson, we are never going to challenge for anything substantial!

    ReplyDelete
  44. It's an awkaward one, we have so many players that are good, but aren't quite good enough. Bellamy has been outstanding this season therefore he can't be dropped. However, Carroll is strting to show some form, and if that is the case, then there is an argument we have to keep playing him to gradually work him out his shell. I'm looking forward to the summer to see what happens with certain players. Can't see Kenny getting rid of more than 2 or 3 (not including the loaned out players). However at this point, I don't see anything wrong with a midefiled of Maxi, Gerrard, Adam, Bellamy and strikers Carroll and Suarez. very attacking but it's time we started scoring a few more.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Surely Henderson is a non starter. The guy has made no significant contribution at all this season. I would play Caroll a head of him. If Caroll doesn't play how can we expect him to improve his game, confidence and understanding with his teammates.

    ReplyDelete
  46. So far a mistake, but not when the homegrown rules evolve. We all know most English players are dross, but their value will skyrocket in coming years, especially those hovering just above average.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I like that front line, but IMHO, that midfield and that front line don't quite match. Once again, if we had Lucas, it would be very different. I have been suspecting since Downing, Henderson and Adam were signed that the new team has been built around Lucas, but lo and behold, he damages his cruciate ligament...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Pre-season. Nick's referring to when we hosted Valencia for a friendly.

    ReplyDelete
  49. You usually speak sense and I agree with some of your points but 'most English players are dross', hardly fair is it? Were in the top ten footballing nations and ok we haven't won a major tournament since 66, but how many others have? For every crap English player there's an equally crap foreign player, the difference is a lot of the better younger ones are over priced.

    ReplyDelete
  50. To be honest Spearing, Hendo and Downing are of reserve team quality and Liverpool must act fast to clear these deadwoods in the summer.I don't think they could even start for Swansea,QPR etc such that their poor quality.Apart from being a scouser, I don't see any other reasons why Spearing is in the team.In the game against the Mancs our midfield with Spearing and Hendo really embarrassed the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Their value will skyrocket? I think we've already paid way over the odds for so far mediocre talent. Values will rise if people are willing to pay stupid amounts. £20m for Henderson! A replacement for Gerrard! On what evidence? To think for similar money we maybe could have got Juan Mata.

Adam looked quality at Blackpool, but maybe needs a team built around him. That's not going to happen at Liverpool, so what do we do? Downing has just been disappointing. Maybe he needs the run in the team that Henderson has bafflingly had. That can be the only hope. You would think he'd be trying to shine to get into the European Championship squad, but if he can't raise his game for that at least, never mind just to be playing for Liverpool, then what hope do we have?

I think Carroll needs continuous games to get back to what he was doing at Newcastle. I don't think he is a player that can come in and out of the team. And he is not really an impact player from the bench, so bringing him on as sub would be of little benefit to him, (fitness and integrating into the team) or to the team on the day.

I don't think anyone would pay, or would have paid anywhere near what we paid for these players (Adam aside), and definitely wouldn't pay it now. So their value to the team is low, and there would not be a queue to take them off our hands for at least what we paid. So much for British players having more value.

The youth players are the planning for future. (if they ever get a chance) If we are not anywhere near challenging for the top of the League or in Europe, then attracting anyone of quality will be more difficult, no matter where they come from, even with money. (which I don't think we have) The Liverpool name will progressively become less of a draw to young players without continued success.

The planning for the future looks good on paper, but performance on the field now is not working. It is just because it is a poor league this year that we are still so close to the top.

  54. Can Bellamy play every game? I suppose if we only have 1 game a week he will be ok but anything more and he has a problem. Also, Dalglish clearly likes to use him for the last 30 mins against tiring defences sometimes so I imagine that will continue.

Henderson will be fine, he's very young and needs some time. Reminds me a little of Lucas in his first few months when he just wanted to do only the simple things because of a lack of confidence. Lucas grew into it so will Hendo. Downing has no such excuses though, just not big enough or brave enough to play for Liverpool. Get rid.

  58. While Adam hasn't been as effective as at Blackpool, he's still worth a place in the current side, when he came on against United in the Cup the team improved loads and we actually kept hold of the ball. Spearing is a worker but not a lot more. We are missing Lucas as pointed out by several posters. I don't personally rate Maxi that highly, he scores the odd goal but I think he goes missing a lot, I'd prefer to see him off the bench. Carroll has to become a 'game in game out player', he's been looking much more dangerous lately but needs the right balls to get the best out of him and needs to get a proper run of starts, his game improves, then so does his confidence and it should continue to flow from there. On the Kely front, while he may not be as natural attacking as Johnson, he delivered our best cross by a mile in the terrible Old Binford game. He played a great ball in with pace into the centre of the box. We could do with more of that.

  59. Harsh on Henderson, yes he's not hit form yet, but he works hard and has energy, he's only young and playing in a side which is struggling. He's one of the 'junior' players in the side and if the senior players aren't pulling up trees then I think it's harsh to slaughter a 20/21year old, he needs to be given time, take a bit of pressure off by not starting him as often and he'll get better and he'll benefit from the team as a whole gelling and the 'big' players performing consistantly.
Shelvey should certainly get more time on the pitch, that lad will be class in a couple of years.

  60.  "Spearing is poor" yeah sure against tottenham and United He hasn't shown his best side, but he just came back to the squad after injury, remember that! Right after Leiva's injury He was the most stand up guy in in midfield. On the flipside is Adam, a player with terrible stamina, always late with cover, He loose most of the balls moreover He always commit some stupid faul in the worst possible moment! As someone said Spearing is a defensive midfilder, and don't tell me he can't be a good one. Just look Lucas - 2 years ago You all wanted him out, but now He's great! Give Jay some time on the field. Adam is not a playmaker, my call is Jonjo!

  62. Shelvey has been unlucky, and should have been in the team before a few others. He has never shone that much for us, but for what he did on loan at Blackpool, he has deserved more of a chance since he has come back.

  63. kenny has always been making big mistakes in his selection of players since the start of the season,i was expecting kenny to have this players as his starting line up in any game lfc played,REINA or DONI-GERRAD or ADAM -SKIRTEL-JOHNSON-AGGER-ENRIQE or AUREILIO or DANNY WILSON-LUCAS-KUYT-SUAREZ-BELLAMY-maxi-but CARROL and players that just came in this season surpose to start from bench for them to understudy lfc partern of playing, compared to MAXI's form at the end of last season i think kenny drop him (MAXI) on the bench you see it that it's the wrong starting line up that kenny use in most of the game that made lfc drop down to this 7 position on the table, compare to the money kenny spent in signing players then take a look at arsenal that does'nt spent half of what kenny spent on players.

  64. harsh m8 am sorry but for 20million pound he has to start to justify that price tag,the young fella from sunderland mcclean danny wellbeck juan mata martin kelly and many others have played and preformed well for there clubs all aged no more than 22,,also henderson has had two seasons playing in the premier league before joining liverpool , my point is that he has yet to show any skill in going forward tackling shooting and passing ,something that regardless of age you should have with a price tag of 20 million,,,at present liverpool take to the field with 10 instead of 11 players while you admit to henderson trying to find his feet because he,s to young ,in a season where getting to the champions league is paramount ,he needs to either grow up fast or kd needs to drop him for someone else

  65. i disagree, carroll shouldn't it doesnt work out

  66. I like the lineup too. But I would not play the man with two first names. (Charlie Adam) Adam is a squad player. Backup for Captain Fantastic. I like Jay holding. He makes better decisions on the ball, he also has more pace and is much better in the tackle as well.

  67. You obviously havent been watching. Every ball Jay makes has purpose. The only mistake he has made was against united. He doesn't try and make hollywood balls all day like adam does. Jay has much more pace and way better in the tackle than adam too. Charlie is just backup for Stevie. But I do agree with you about downing. He has been absolutely worthless.

  68. With all the posts on here, this is the only one I totally agree with. Suarez should be playing a little deeper with Carroll as the front/target man. Bellamy and Downing providing the pace and crosses and Gerrard and Adam controlling the midfield. Just let Suarez play a free role and do his thing.

  69. Exactly - everybody love to go on about his 'big goals' and ignore his consistently mediocre performances that leave us with so few 'big games' to play in the first place!

  70. I don't understand what is going on with Shelvey. He was sent out on loan and performed, then was recalled to just sit on our bench??

Henderson may technically be a better player than him, but Shelvey has MUCH more confidence atm and so is willing to take the risks on the pitch that will lead to goals. Keeping it neat and tidy is all well and good, but for some inexplicable reason Henderson is being handed the free role of the midfield trio (ahead of Gerrard!?) and so he has to be creating far more goal-scoring opportunities than he is doing

  71. Spearing isn't even a natural defensive midfielder at all. He's being played out of position in the holding role just because he has slightly more discipline (and less attacking talent) than his central midfield counterparts

    ReplyDelete
  72. And how do they get the ball, seeing as Carragher obviously isn't going to be the man to link the play back to front?
Furthermore, surely Carragher's severe lack of pace and agility limits the freedom that could be afforded to his midfield partners?

  73. If you're playing week in-week out, then as far as I'm concerned you're a senior player and should be performing as such to justify that position

  74. Carroll starting every game? What on earth for? Just to provide a laugh for the supporters - they'd probably rather have the points. I love it when people say 'Lucas came good...' Good at what exactly? Scoring goals? Nope. Making goals? Nope. Dribbling. Nope. Heading? Nope. The only thing Lucas can do is to stick out his leg and try to deflect the ball to someone who might be able to use it. He's the living proof that not all Brasilians can play football. Still, even talking about Lucas is better than wasting time on that Suarez fiasco. What a fuss about nothing. And zero marks to the Liverpool fans for fanning the flames. They should have just refused to comment.

  75. I would give Carroll a run , think he would benefit from a good run in the side , but agree totally with your comments about the other fella .

  76. Agreed. Henderson will come good but I get the feeling that Shelvey is a naturally confident lad, you can see it oozes out of him even by the way he warms up an walks around he seems really at ease. I think he'll be a top player.
