Liverpool striker Andy Carroll is probably the most criticised player at Anfield these days, and given his disappointing performances over the last year, it's not hard to understand why. Not everyone thinks that Carroll is waste of money though, and Bolton Boss Owen Coyle believes that the big man will eventually come good for Liverpool.
In his press conference earlier today, Coyle - whose Bolton side face Liverpool this weekend - enthused:
"He [Carroll] is an outstanding young player.
"I don't think there is any doubt he will reproduce that form [he showed at Newcastle].
"The thing is, when you get that kind of criticism you have to come through it with a smile on your face. It will serve him well.
"His quality is unquestioned, but we have to make sure he doesn't show it against us."
I don't know about anyone else but I've seen no evidence so far that Carroll is 'outstanding', or that he's capable of reproducing his Newcastle form at Liverpool.
Let's hope Coyle is right though; at the end of the day, an on-form Carroll must surely mean goals for Liverpool, and that can only be a good thing.

If you are a true fans stay behind the team. Kenny is still developing this side and some of the players are here only from 4 months. We play very good football, we are in CL places fight, hopefully we will pass through City in a week. Hendo is a great prospect, Downing will show his class soon and Andy Caroll just need one or two more goals to make people happy. Don't forget - players like Suares are very rare in the world football - we have him, have Stevie, Agger, Reina and Enrique. Johnson and Skirtel are excellent this season but Leiva will be ready for the next.
ReplyDeleteJust need 2 or three worls class player and we will be as strong as the very best. The problem is - abovementioned players are very expensive and we may take them may be for 2 transfer windows, not one. But i like Kenny project - add Sterling, Suso, Adam, Pinto for the next season and the sun is shinning again!

We need an super creative playmaker if we want the team work.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant comment to all the negative knockers who keep slamming 21 year old players for not setting the world alight immediately.
ReplyDeleteI LIKE KENNY PROJECT TOO
ReplyDeleteKK should his sights lower on Carroll.
ReplyDeleteCarroll would do well to be as good as Crouchie. He should forget 'outstanding' or Shearer-esque levels as I don't think he has it in him but who knows.
Although nothing special or 'outstanding', Crouchie is solid
Crouchie's touch and hold up is a lot better than Carroll, another thing Carroll needs to work on a lot as a player at Liverpool, regardless of position, needs to be good on the ball.
We were probably better off going for Crouchie and using the left over money to add onto the money we spent on Downing on a better winger.
Another day another knock at Carroll. I appreciate he hasn't set the world alight, but he's a young lad who needs encouragement an a good run in the team. Shearer, Dalglish, Pardew, Hughton, Comolli, Wenger, Comolli and Capello all rate him. Support him an he'll grow.
ReplyDeleteOn a separate notice good luck to Anne Williams
And well done to everyone for signing the petition, see what happens when our fans pull together, an other members of the football community.

The way Kenny is playing Carroll is unbelievably wrong, he only scored 2 or 3 goals with his head, he doesn't need crosses he needs a good attacking midfielder to supply passes, he only scores with his head if he can get enough of a run so he can power the ball with his head, don't believe me, watch all his goals from last season.
ReplyDeletespot on. And he has a decent left foot as well, as we well know from last season.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, getting another striker to stand around getting no service is a waste of time. And there is no need for us to overplay this 'Carroll is good in the air' business, yes he is but that means that we shouldn't be looking for a playmaker who can tee him up on his left foot. Maybe Suarez is the man to do that, he played off Forlan for Uruguay, so why can't he do the same for us? His 5 goals this season is not exactly outstanding either.
ReplyDeletejamie i read what you have to say and most times i agree but i really hate when you take the piss out of players who for this is a part player in a squad! too much is being placed on andy, everyone needs to take a step back and think he is a young player with a big price tag who is trying to agjust, too many fans think they know best when they dont know at all! he will come good like the rest of the team the big problem expecting too much too soon!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteit annoys me how articles are still coming out to slag carroll off from so called liverpool "fans". whats the point? are they trying to kill his confidence even more? he needs people to give encouragement instead of berating him all the time, we shouldnt need an opposition boss to do that for us.
ReplyDeleteBrian - how have I 'taken the piss' out of Carroll? I'm just reporting what another manager said about him because I know fans like to read what people in the game say about Liverpool players. I've said nothing about Carroll that's insulting or derogatory; I've just been honest. Plus, I end the article with a positive thought, not a negative.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm sure Carroll is on the computer 24/7, reading our articles and opinions (!)
ReplyDeleteIts the fans in the stadium that are the most vocal to these footballers, not some random fans online.
I would love to kill off more than his confidence!... he earns MILLIONS.. he should be able to get his "confidence" up just by stepping on the field!!... get a grip .. if he needs a freakin nipple in his mouht and to be hugged daily then he should not have gone into football!
ReplyDeleteI find it peculiar that football legend and premier league winning manager, Kenny Dalglish, describes a player as, "an outstanding young player". Yet the random pundit who wrote this article describes Andy Carroll as a flop. Its not worth comparing credentials.
ReplyDeleteCarroline is garbage.. he has had plenty of chances to score and has CHOKED every time! .. People need to wake up and realize he is just another overpiced Brit flop brought in bcuz of his passport...
ReplyDeletewe need a few players still we have no speed on the pitch at all no one to go past people
ReplyDeleteAndy not scoring with his head is debated heavily...according to King Kev, he is the best header of the ball he has ever seen! I saw another comment that Andy prefers to run in from deep or takes pot shots with power, which is why he was such a success in Newcastle.
ReplyDeleteHere we play he right in the box and to be honest, i really don't rate his heading (for his heading ability to be compared to Shearer is a joke).
That aside, i agree we shouldn't codemn him further since he didn't set his ridiculous price tag. All i ask and hope to see is the big bloke stays on his feet and work hard. To be honest, i easily see him on the floor at least 5 to 6 times every single game! Till date i have yet to truely see enough of his 'power' to rate him as a powerful player, i think Crouchie looks stronger than him! If i'm the ref, i will be shaking my head tell him 'look BIG boy, its not really convincing that a player of his size and build is falling like a ton of bricks all the time'...even if it is genuine (such as a few of the stinky tactics Stoke pulled on him).
Imagine ref not awarding decisions to supposed divers who are not big such as Luis...Andy will probably only get spits if he continues to not demonstrate the strength he is supposed to have in abundance.
Where Carroll is concerned, it is all about FORM because he is one player who simply has no CLASS. Never had it in the past and never will.
ReplyDeleteYou are right Bob, we were taken for a ride by Newcastle.
ReplyDeletefans are slamming him because he is 21 and cost de club 35mill, i feel sad for carroll to me was an excellent player for newcastle bt u all ar backin Kk becos of his legendary status bt de truth is he is no where near de class Rafa had wen he was in charge, wat annoys me de most is his press conferences. Kk did well wen he took ova bt has shown dat he is a wasteful manager
ReplyDeleteCarroll is obviously feeling the pressure! Lay off the lad, he didn't ask for the rice to be so high, if it was 5 million would you be laying in to him? No I don't think you would.
ReplyDeleteFor once Jamie please stop criticising the team and get behind them!!
Y.N.W.A
Owen Coyle did buy Ngog off us didn't he?
ReplyDeleteI see that you have now adopted tabloid style headlines. As a liverpool supporter i dont believe the word 'flop' is appropriate, the headline would not be out of place on a Man Utd blog site. Up your standards. I agree with a realistic critical approach but this is purely to get website hits, you have sold your soul.
ReplyDeleteRemember what Lucas was like a few years ago .. Carroll is very young still so give him time..... Every1 should know by now that his 35mil price was inflated by 15mil , thats why we got 50 for Torres instead of 35 mil . All we wanted was a 15 mil profit in the transaction
ReplyDeleteI think you will find it was Owen Coyle who described Carroll as, "an outstanding young player" but agree with your sentiment.
ReplyDeleteCarrol'ls not hit the ground running ,nor really got going. The main thing to me is that he has been pulled booked and given no real help/protection by the Refs. Its not a excuse but like Crouchie before him every 50/50 every jump barge etc has seemed to be at his expense.
ReplyDeleteAt Newcastle he was getting a lot in his favour,This season at LFC spotlight on the refs have not been so partial.
Stevie playing might just be the catalyst after all he made Torres look like a 50 million striker didn't he? C'mon Carroll get among them and maybe dare I say it take a leaf out of the Dider Drogba book.

Andy Carroll needs to do what Niall Quinn did. When Quinn played for Arsenal he was good in the air but his touch was awful. Arsenal sold him to Man City. After about six months I noticed (being a fellow Irishman) that his ball control had improved enormously. He went on to become an excellent striker and formed a great partnership with Kevin Philips at Sunderland. When I read his autobiography Quinn discussed how the players at City used to play doubles 'tennis' for small money every day and his ball control improved from there. If Andy Carroll could improve his ball control he would get that extra 0.5 second or so he needs and his game would improve.
ReplyDeleteThe most criticsed player for over two seasons was Lucas, he took it all and worked hard, and Liverpool believed in him. This season up to his injury he was our best player, I remember Gerrard writing in a national newspaper about 3 years ago that Lucas was the future of Liverpool, and he was right. Now he also thinks that Carroll will come good, lets all get behind Carroll, stop all this negative talk.
ReplyDelete"Crouchie's touch and hold up play is a lot better than Carroll" -
ReplyDeleteWow !!! that really puts things into perspective.
I agree about the press conferences - KK needs to be a bit more personable. I apprecaite he may not like the media, but at the end of the day, they ask the questions that we as fans want answered and he does himself no favours
ReplyDeleteBolton's manager would laud praise on Carroll. All he wants it to ensure that one LFC opponent who is toothless takes the field against his team.
ReplyDeleteTruem and People must also understand that Dzeko hardly scored last season and whats he sitting on now? My point is give Carrol a chance guys, the lad will come good.
ReplyDeleteDzeko has one goal in the last 10 games; hardly prolific (!)
ReplyDeleteCant really understand why liverpool bought Carroll. His goal scoring record for Newcastle looked better than it really was due to all the goals he scored in the Championship. Then he was the focal point, every time Barton, Nolen Enrique etc got the ball their first thought was to get it to him.
ReplyDeleteThats obviously not the case at Liverpool, what with better players areound him who are equally as (if not more) likely to score. Kuyt, Suarez, Bellamy are all better player IMO.
Regards their other signings, Downing is a speedboat without a driver and Henderson looks a bit in awe of it all at times. Enrique is a class act at LB and Adam can play 45 yard Hollywood balls all day, bit slow though. It says a lot that LFC's best player has been Lucas, a player who I remember being abused throughout his previous seasons.
Benitez was a much better manager than Dalgleish in the modern game. Seems Kenny is just a bit grumpy in his old age and is more interested in fending off questions about Liverpool's high draw % at home than he is actually rectifying the situation.
Shame to see you using the same sort of language as the gutter press...............so he is a "flop" is he???
ReplyDeleteYes, Carroll is a flop. If he isn't, please explain how.
