£7m WINGER: "I am aware of Liverpool's interest". Should LFC sign him?

Liverpool desperately need one or two creative attacking players and Werder Bremen winger Marko Marin is once again being linked with a move to Anfield. With only two days of the transfer window remaining, what are the chances of a transfer actually going ahead in January?

One thing is for sure: Liverpool have definitely been interested in the played in the past, as Marin told Bild a few months ago:

"Yes, I am aware of the interest from Liverpool. However, I am just keeping my focus on Werder Bremen. We had a very difficult time this season and it was a struggle, of course, I still like being at Werder Bremen. I suppose we are out to play a better campaign next term."

The fact that Kenny Dalglish was interested just a few short months ago lends more credence to rumours currently doing the rounds.

The German International - who cost Werder Bremem €8.5 million (Approx £7m) - is under contract until 2013, which means his contract is up for renewal very soon, something that could hand Liverpool an advantage in any potential negotiations.

Marin has 18 goals 37 assists in the last three seasons, which is a pretty decent record. Should Liverpool try and sign him?

I still maintain that Liverpool should sign Xherdan Shaqiri from Basel, who is definitely available in January.

  1. KK has just been on Sky Sports News confirming we are not signing anyone in this window other than a young keeper for the Academy. Bit disappointing but if Carroll keeps improving and Suarez can bag more goals when he comes back... Well, then I'm happy tovtrust the club, KK and the players to get us 4th place.

  5. i think daglish is goin out on a limb here,we need a pacy winger at least to help the strikers and try and nail a 4th place finish at the moment they need huge improvement to win an f.a.cup the last couple of results have put a gloss on things but scratch the surface and we are bare.

  6. Dalglish definitively came out to say that Babel was going nowhere a day or two before his transfer...

  7. if kenny has money and is not going to sign anyone, he is risking his job. there are decent players available, players we need-its madness to continue with the squad we have when so many are under-performing.
competition for downing and carroll may be the kick up the ass they need.

  9. i agree apart from the risking his job thing. im not sure he can do anything bad enough to risk his job to be honest (the whole legend thing makes it hard for him to be fired now). but for sure our squad needs improving and we apparently have the money so surely its a no-brainer. two wingers one forward and a dm are essential. we really should be cashing in on players like kuyt, maxi, downing and spearing to make way for required new signings. and on a side note, why the hell do none of the youngsters get chances. the likes of morgan, silva, suso, adorjan, coady, sterling will all go to waste if dalglish ignores them. we have already wasted potentially good talent like nemeth, mavinga, pacheco, leto, el zhar, kacaniklic, ajdarevic, dalla valle etc etc and for what. we had nothing to lose then and nothing to lose now. shelvey also deserves more game time than adam and certainly more than spearing but hes constantly overlooked. he should leave to save his career. they all should if they want games.

  10. He is worth more than £7 million. Liverpool will be lucky if we get him for even £14.

  11. That is why he blew all £35 million on Carroll to get himself permanent job!

  12. As far as Kenny knows, but Comolli may have other ideas!

  13. How? Score in place of the strikers? Whenever we have someone speeding up either flank, there are never any of our strikers within shooting distance of goal. We don't need a pacy winger - we need a winger who knows how to set forwards up! Somewhat like Silva/Mata who aren't really out and out wingers.

  14. I agree with your views Jamie about signing Shaqiri, i haven't seen him much but the games against Mancs were enough to convince me about his quality. Shaqiri has the potential to be one of the best players in his position, and when he will peak, he will definitely be among top 10 players in the world IMO.
Marin is also good player and will provide a touch of genius which Liverpool lack, i wouldn't mind either of them playing for Liverpool but i would also prefer Shaqiri.

  15. Don't really know this guy but i like the look of a lot of the prospects coming out of Germany at the moment and feel it won't be long before they have overtaken spain, again, as the best in europe and, possibly, the world. If he is as good as some of their other youngsters, definitely give him a go. I'd still take Shaqiri as well. If we could get two decent wide men for 20 million that would be good. What are the club's plans, if any, for our youngsters? Any of them within a year of making the squad? That ought to influence the transfer activity. We need wide players and we need another striker and defensive midfield back up. But if the club thinks that Coady and Sterling, for example, are within 6 months of joining the first team squad, then they may decide that all we really need is another striker. Still feel it is  lack of creativity which is our downfall and needs to be addressed first.

  16. Marin is an excellent little player, similar to Modric, Ozil and Silva in many ways although I've only seen him play a couple of times

    We should definitely sign Shaqiri

  17. Think he fall out of german national squad after WC and game against Serbia, there are anegdote that when Marin come on the pitch as substitute because Germany losing 1-0,one time Lfc player Jovanovic asked him:Are u Serb,he replayed Yes,then Jova said:Ok,slow up,dont push to much:)And it looked at the moments like this,Serbia won that one.But he is very good player,as they call him a German Messi.Think Lfc shold sign him and Krasic, both for 20mil,it will be much better job than for Downing.

  18. Considering last year's January final hour transfer coup, I think Liverpool would play Shelvey on goal, if all of our keepers were out, rather than to spend any money.

  19. I don't think the majority of our youngsters are ready to come in and battle, cause that we need, in the premiership yet. Watch the reserve and u18 games and you'll see struggle sometimes against other boys. I'm sure once they have another year and a bit more physical presence they should be ready to be slowly introduced. We may also think we have wasted talent from previous youth squads but where are they now? None of them have really lit up the world where they are now - Nemeth is a great example, playing in the second division in Hungary back at his first club

  20. Liverpool buy a player that has pace and gets you off your seat - never!!! we buy functional players like Henderson, Adam and Downing mediocre players

  21. Don't be blinded by the flick-on. How the hell is Carroll improving? He is crap a huge panic buy and worth nowhere near what 35mil should of got us. Don't use he's age as an excuse either. I for one don't buy into give him time he's gonna come good. He shoulda been good when we bought him. All this one for the future crap he over 20 right? Thats why we have the academy. I rest my case!!!!! We need to accept that mistakes were made and fix them by bringing in the right players for the right price.

  22. Interestingly McCarthy said that Dalglish had requested the Wolves game be put back 24 hrs, wolves refused but MCarthy believed liverpool wanted the game moved because they were hoping to do something on deadline day.

  23. To get to 4th we'll have 2 rely on the bad performance of some major clubs and at least 7 out of our first eleven fulfilling their potential and on a lot of luck. Suarez, our best player, is not prolific enough so far. At the rate Caroll is improving, he will hit the net in 3-4 years. Come on!! Miss out on the Champions League means missing out on World Class Players. It will be a major Set-Back! The money we spend on a good striker will be retrieved by next season.

I read in the club website KD said no senior players are coming in or going out that's the worst news i've heard so far when we really need a striker now more than ever even with Suarez coming back he wont be banging goals so im resigned to the fact that i won't be looking forward to CL matches.Sucks to be an LFC fan right now

  26. Common guys how many players we dreamt of having at Liverpool but never happened.

Instead we got Adam, Henderson, Downing et el.

If it's not British we ain't going to get them. Sad but true.

  27. Hoillett, Elia, Shaqiri, Honda - even without scouring the market, these are all guys who have clearly displayed to talent to be massive improvements over what we've got at the moment, all have tremendous upside and all are (apparently)available for bargain basement fees (relatively) well below $15m!

Even if it is just to stockpile assets to sell for a profit later on, LFC should be making moves and picking up some of these guys. The fact that they would so greatly improve our chances of short term (and consequently long term also) success, just makes it even more unfathomable that we are just watching the window play out while we continue to stick with our one specialist senior winger (Downing) competing with the likes of Kuyt, Maxi, Henderson and Bellamy every third game
