Liverpool's CHARLIE ADAM admits: I failed...

Charlie Adam has been fantastic for Liverpool since his summer signing, and he's already contributed two goals and seven assists for his new team. The Scot is happy at Anfield, but in a recent interview, he revealed that he has regrets about how things ended at Blackpool.

Speaking to the BBC, Adam outlined how he still feels a sense of personal culpability over Blackpool's relegation from the Premier League:

"It would've been great to come to Liverpool [in January] but keeping Blackpool in the Premier League would've been massive, and we were disappointed at the end of the season that never happened.

"I was brought there to try and achieve that, and it never happened, so I'm disappointed with that".

Adam was also keen to stress that he owes a lot to his former manager, Ian Holloway:

"I still speak to the manager [Ian Holloway], and I know he's proud of what I'm achieving.

"When I went there, he said I'll get you to one of the big clubs, and he was true to his word".

Adam cost only 8m, but he has scored/created more goals than Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson combined.

  1. Fantastic player who is improving all the time. Great signing who will only get better and better. He has his detractors. They are largely idiots.

  2. Big question mark over how much better he will get though! I agree he is a quality signing, but the primary reason why he's doing better than the English signings is he's got larger balls. He's come in and played his game because he understands that's what he was signed for. You can see he believes he deserves his place and plays like it, as do Enrique, Bellamy and Suarez. Actually, in the QPR game, Downing was finally playing like his price tag too. But in all fairness, Hendo and Carroll are kids, and are they performing any worse in their positions than Lucas was at their age? Was Carra as good a defender at 21-22? I'm of the opinion most players start to perform to their potential consistently between 24-26 and at their best from 27-29. In that sense, Lucas, Suarez, Adam and Enrique are where they should be.

  7. wheres Redredandredder?????? nothing to say on adam now. Charlie Adam has been our best summer signing no doubt about it and i cant wait til he and stevie form a formidable partnership in the second half of the year.

  8. charlie adams first few games did not show much except his passing, but through training (looks like mainly fitness work) he has shown a lot more to his game starting with the man utd game. that was the first time i had seen him actually run past a player. now we can see he has been a god buy for us, i do have doubts with how much better he can get, but nevertheless i believe he can have a good career at liverpool.

  9. No doubt he's been one of our better purchases and has certainly filled a void at the club.
However I still have questions regarding his long term role at the club.

My main concern is the way the team continues to fade in the second half of matches.
It generally stems from loss of control in midfield, and it happened again versus QPR.
Its a concern that needs to be addressed, as better teams will punish us for it.

If we're looking to challenge the best in the EPL and Europe, then we need a midfield combination that can exert a vice like grip for the full game, not just the first half.
Previously we had that with Mascherano, Xabi & Gerrard... we don't anymore.
A meaner and more dynamic midfield is required.

However for 8m, he's still a great option coming off the bench.

  10. It is very noble of you to remind us of Carroll and Hendersons ages which means they need time to come good.
Having said that, I would also like to point out that Ngog, El Zhar and Ryan Babel were also young players who also needed time but the present management team made a decision to move them on so sometimes we can tell from early on if some players will come good.
It could also be argued that while we have good youngsters like Suso, Morgan, Sterling and even Pacheco, the management choses to persevere with players who have scored more than 2 goals in a game only once in 15 league games so far this season.
To me it seems they are very cautious and scared to take drastic action and the star signings know if they get dropped it will be for a game or two and be right back in so they don't even bother to raise their game.
Against QPR, Downing toiled most of the time he was on but I felt the game was raised in the short time Jonjo came on. Maybe it's time to bring in one or two youngsters to show the way and prove that the runs that Flanagan and Robinson got last season was not the exception to the rule.
I believe if you are good enough, age does not come into it as a young Michael Owen proved all those years ago.
We seem to collect a plethora of young talent that seem to go nowhere near the first team picture and are then farmed out never to be heard of again with Pacheco being the latest to come to mind.

  11. You are improving all the time and does justify your price tag.

  12. He has got much better of late.  I was concerned at first as he is so poor in the tackle and seemed to tire by 60 mins.  Was brilliant yesterday though, but I still think he tires towards the ends of matches.

Sometimes people forget, this is a 'new' project and will probably take this season to get going and for the new players to get to know each other.  The signs are promising though, first half yesterday we played some excellent stuff and Adam and Henderson were bossing it.

  14. our best midfielder since alonso.
he's getting better every game,he looks more mobile aswell-he must have been put on a new fitness programme.
in an attacking sense he provides more than alonso did.7 assists already this season.a brilliant signing,i personally think we'd have made it to the champs league if we signed him last january.

  15. if they are farmed out and never heard of again doesn't that tell you something about their talent?

  16. I have to admit, he's surprised me in recent weeks. He's working harder at his game and his assist for Luis yesterday on his weaker right foot was excellent.

  17. Yeah it does tell me Liverpool gets much sought after talent from time to time but fail to develop it.

  18. Ngog was given more than 2 seasons, Babel more than 3, El Zhar even more. Hendo and Carroll don't even have 1 full season yet. I am also going to maintain age figures for most players - Owen is a classic example of why my claim is about most, but not all players. Owen, like Torres, relied very much on a burst of acceleration prior to his first major injury. These 2 peaked much earlier, and I would even go as far as to say so did Joe Cole and SWP.

I agree Downing was still toiling, but it was his best game for us by far. He was cutting in and also putting in alot more diagonals rather than just getting to the byline and crossing which never really yielded anything for us. He popped up in and around the box more often too which he seemed very reluctant to do in previous matches.

I'm with you on Jonjo. He is our new Gerrard in that he will be all over the pitch trying to make things happen. He wants the ball and knows where he wants to put it. Hardly surprising he did raise our game. I'd expect to see more of it! It is this desire to make things happen that separates him from Henderson, who is more of an opportunistic player with good skills and has the creative vision but doesn't make himself constantly available to make things happen.

As to Pacheco, he is overrated. He is an ambitious player, once again with great vision, but he doesn't have what it takes to pull it off. He's a player you'd feel very frustrated watching because you know what's on his mind, but it's well beyond what he can do. He's very much like Luis Garcia. I'm gutted about losing Nemeth who is very much the poacher we currently crave. If Morgan is similar or better, I too hope he gets a runout soon!
