VIDEO: "There's absolutely no evidence of these outrageous slurs..."

The post title is a quote from a Liverpool FC spokesperson after Steve Finnan was cleared of racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra in 2006. Let's hope that the club is saying something similar about Luis Suarez when the investigation into Evra's latest claim is completed.

It's hard to tell from what little video evidence is available if there is any substance to Evra's claims, but in the following snippet, Suarez clearly says something to Evra:

In this snippet, Evra definitely reacts (facially) to something Suarez says (See 0.08), but the game continues before he can do anything about it:

Suarez is, of course, innocent until proven guilty, and we can only hope there is no substance to Evra's accusation.

However, if this turns out to be true, then Suarez must be punished to the full extent of the game's laws, as racism in football in any capacity is inexcusable.

At this point though: Innocent until proven guilty.

  1. IF false this is now the 3rd or 4th time Evra has made these kind of false accusations...

I'd like to see what will happen to him? Nothing for sure.

As bad as racism is and has no place in modern day world, falsely accusing fellow human for something this bad should be punished with a long ban!

I'm not saying he didn't say it, but sadly Evra has the reputation of bringing out the racism card when the going gets tough!

  2. if it is not true then surely Evra should face heavy punishment as it is not the first time he has claimed this

  3. How do you adjudge the true content of a conversation on a football pitch between a Uruguayan and Frenchman? Do they even understand each other? I'm absolutely for punishment of players who make racial slurs but what can we do? Put microphones on them?

  4. Definitely cannot condone racism; IF that's what happened, but does Patrice Evra NEVER say anything controversial?
For example, has he questioned any players parentage, or has he ever knowingly benefited from a team-mates cheating? We all know the answers to these questions; & also should players be cited after the fact, as in Rugby, for infringements like simulation, or accusations tantamount to calling the referee a cheat? You should be careful what you accuse people of, Mr. Evra

  5. Nope. At no other time has Evra made this kind og accusations.

Chelsea-case: "The United leftback admitted he did not hear a racist comment from Bethell, but evidence from a United player and a member of the coaching staff claimed Evra was abused.
The commission found that Bethell conducted himself in a 'disorderly fashion' and that his language 'had been abusive and provocative'."
NOT EVRA.Finnan-case: A police investigation has been launched after deaf football fans complained they had lip-read Liverpool's Steve Finnan making a racist remark towards Patrice Evra of Manchester United.

    NOT EVRA.

So, at what other time has Evra made this kind of accusations?

  6. Evra should banned for life and kicked out of this country, If he can't substantiate this. He has a long history of this, funnily enough after defeats or poor showings???. We are to belive that Suarez used the N-word 10 times?, yet he never once reacted on the pitch or told the ref?..............I smell a big fat rat here, If this is untrue get him out of this country now!!!

  7. What kind of history does Evra have with these kinds of accusations?

  8. You are clearly a clown Gano....banned for life and kicked out of the country.  Do us a favour and disappear you idiot.  It's an objective and fair article that sums it up exactly.  If there's any proof then he should be punished but no proof does not mean it didn't happen.

  9. Ban him for life he is a liar!!!!! Funny no other black players seem to be abused only him!, Why doesn't Ferdinand, Smalling, Young etc get it?, only him. In France he is hated by the nation as a trouble causer, I hope Suarez and Liverpool sue him and the Police prosecute him........LIAR LIAR LIAR!!

  10. Yes he does say something but it's certainly not ten racial remarks, he must utter about four words.... it could be "ya can't keep up"

  11. Why is a race slur any different than a fat, bald, ginger, granny lover, bum bandit, queer, plus any number of swear words?
It annoys me that a player can be called all the above and it classed as emotion  or player banter yet the second you mention the players race all hell breaks loose.

Its quite hard to believe but Liverpool was built on the horrendous torture and abuse of minorities.  So in answer to your question the difference to between "bald" and "race" is history and white upper class shame.

  15. Suarez may not be a saint but lets not forget that Evra has previous form of making race allegations which, when investigated, have been found to be false.  He also has a history of getting stroppy and then using the race card to get him out of trouble.  Remember the incident at Stamford Bridge a couple of years ago when he claimed a Chelsea groundsman had racially abused him but the inquiry concluded that Evra and Mike Phelan had invented the whole "racial abuse" allegation to try and avoid a misconduct charge ?!!!  Remember Evra's behaviour at the last World Cup when he was one of hte ringleaders in the "refusal to train" fiasco ? ......and what about Evra's disgraceful diving around yesterday ?  Andre Marriner spoke to both Evra and Suarez several times during the game and yet Evra did not make the allegation until after the game had ended.  Doesn't that seem a little strange to anyone ? I know even plenty of United fans who are embarrassed by this guy !!  How many times does he get to cry wolf before action is taken against him ?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Absolutely correct and that is why his invitation to live and work in this country should be taken away, If unsubstantiated he must be prosecuted by the Police. Too often this guy is doing this!!!!

  19. Amused to death.  U need to go back and check your history mate.  The FA inquiry found against United and AGAINST Evra and Phelan and that there was no RACIST abuse of any kind from the Chelsea groundsman.   Any admissions Evra made were only dragged out of him after he and Phelan had made the initial, FALSE allegation.  Incidentally the FA found no case to answer against Finnan either and those deaf fans you mention who made the allegation against Finnan..........needless to say you FORGOT to mention they supported United.  Typical Manc trying to rewrite history to suit himself

    ReplyDelete
  20. Let's just keep this simple, shall we?

Evra has never before accused anyone of racism.

    Facht.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Agreed. If he's done this he has to be punished. The odd thing is if it were anyone other than Evra I would believe there was probably something in it because why would you make something like that up? But, it is Evra and (sorry amused to death) but he DOES have history. And, if he's making it up again then he needs punishing.

  22. let's wait and see until all the facts are established.  My questions is if Suarez is found guilty what action do LFC take?

    1. fine him
    2. Release him from the club.
    3. Other

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mate you can't even SPELL fact let alone state one......as your last post shows.  My advice to anyone who wants to know the truth about the Stamford Bridge matter is to ignore Amused to death and just do a google  search.  Evra incidentally got the 4 match ban that United were trying to avoid by falsely raising the race issue after he had become abroiled in a post match spat with a Chelsea groundsman.  Mike Phelan, among other United staff, was found to have given dishonest evidence about what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  24. this serial liar, said he does not want to make a big deal of it, yet went into the refferees room to complain with stirrer ferguson who would love to see our best strker banned, evra was a disgrace to his country at the world cup causing all sorts of troble, he also kept trying to get players booked holiding up imaginary cards, he was looking for trouble all through the game, lfc should insist the fa watch the whole match and his antics.

    ReplyDelete
  25. No! My point is, name calling is just that, name calling. If it's deemed ok by the referee to call a player anything else besides a race slur then it's absurd. Gay people have been persecuted for hundreds of years, in some countries they are being tortured and killed yet if a player calls another player a faggot/queer/ etc then the referee says nothing and the FA aren't interested. But heaven forbid any one mentions someone's race in a deragatory way. It's double standards, so if the FA doesn't crack down on all comments on the pitch then it can't crack down on race comments.

liverpool was indeed built on slavery but not the way you think, liverpool was built on cotton and slaves picked that cotton, there were over1,000 watchmakers alone in liverpool at that time so commerce was diverse.

  28. Evra certainly has a history as far as being an idiot goes, but he does not have a history when it comes to accusing others of racism. He cannot control accusations from people in the stands.

Chelsea-case once again: Evra admitted the charge during a two-day hearing at which the commission heard powerful evidence from both clubs. But Bethell has escaped the charge of 'engaging in racist conduct or language' after the FA failed to prove the case.
The United left back admitted he did not hear a racist comment from Bethell, but evidence from a United player and a member of the coaching staff claimed Evra was abused. Bethell has always denied making racist remarks.

Yes, Evra was acting like an ass, but has he ever been caught not telling the truth? Has he ever accused anyone of racism falsely? If he has not, why make it out as if i has?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes, Evra was acting like an idiot. He was not falsely accusing anyone of racism though.

And if you do not catch the "facht-referance" I guess you're not really following Liverpool very closely.

  30. I look forward to J W Henry hitting Evra and Mancs with a lawsuit this week, this is serious enough for the Police to prosecute Evra if he can't substantiate this rubbish. He is a vile creature and even the French hate him, to lie about such matters is worthy of jail.....4 times he has done this now!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. And what will you do if Evra is lying?

    ReplyDelete
  32. and even the French hate him

thats a pretty extensive survey you've carried out then...

    ReplyDelete
  33. That's Man Utd's and FA's decision.  As LFC fans we have little influencing power over what sanction they will impose on Patrice Evra IF he's lying.

However, we can exert some influence on what sanction our club would hand if Suarez was guilty of directing racial abuse towards Evra.

So I'm asking what action should LFC take if Suarez was guilty.  It's not a trick question!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Its clear from the video the evra was provoking suarez. Evra treated arsenal players as 11 kids playing against man u adults. What do we expect from a person like evra.

    ReplyDelete
  35. and barcelona is waiting for u to teach you a football lesson in the champions league.hahahahahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't think there's too much acting required because Evra IS an idiot and a nasty piece of work to boot.  As was said earlier the "admission" by Evra was dragged out of him under cross examination.  Would you prefer us to rephrase it as "your club (Manchester Utd) has a history of using false allegations of racism to protect Evra".

    ReplyDelete
  37. am new to this kind of stuff but can someone explain to me what it means when people say white trash...i feel bad for Suarez we never have any issues back home about black people...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Powerful evidence ?!!! WTF Are you a comedian ? The inquiry found that United's staff had made up an allegation of racist abuse against Bethell in order to get Evra out of trouble.  Evra himself only admitted there had been nothing racist when put under pressure to fess up to it.  This is quite clear from the Inquiry's findings.  What's powerful about that ? Even the French can't stand Evra and there is a reason for this.  Just to be clear Evra's allegation is that Suarez racially abused him about 10 times during the Liverpool game and yet, unless I'm mistaken, no-one else (including a number of other black United players) heard anything racist at all.  What a coincidence !!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. there's many meanings to 'White Trash'

    lowest common denominator
    lowest social class
    immoral
    Backward
    uneducated
    inbreds
lives a poor standard of life
    Poor

White trash is commonly referred to 'white people'.

  41. What a load of bull! You state that Liverpool - the one time largest port city on earth as being built entirely on Slave money and you expect people to take you seriously??

Get a grip - and learn some real history in it's context - before you generalise 'like a racist yourself' and condemn an entire city and it's people.

Tell us all - oh master historian - who were the instigators of abolishing slavery and which city did they come from?

Maybe you don't know the answer - or maybe it doesn't suit your twisted agenda.

The fact is - racism is wrong - but so is using it as a weapon to discredit others, and it's about time someone felt the full force of the law.

Accusing someone of a racist comment is something anyone can do - yet it seems if you are of African, or Jewish origin - you get far more mileage out of it! Maybe that is to do with White Western Guilt - but it doesn't justify it on any level.

Patrice Evra is no angel - anyone watching the match could see he was spoiling for a fight - he made gestures at the Liverpool fans and was bad mouthing several Liverpool players and at least 2 of the match officials. Why then are we taking his bogus ( unspecified to date ) claims with any seriousness?

    ReplyDelete
  42. if Suarez was racist then the FA should act accordingly - it is unacceptable. If Evra's claims cannot be substantiated then he should face a similar punishment. Falsely claiming someone to be a racist has much more serious consequences.

If you are a racist and are shown to be one then you probably have no shame anyway...being punished may deter you from being outwardly racist - but you are still a racist and I have no time for these people.

If you falsely claim someone is a racist then the damage you can cause that individual is far more than any punishment that can be given out - that innocent individual's integrity and values have been slurred in public and the comment will always be out there.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Fine him, and maybe give him a 3 or 4 (or more match) ban. Why would we release him from the club? Make him apologize, require him to attend anger management classes, or to learn more about historical/social injustices, so he better understands the depths of his offense. Releasing Suarez, one of LFC’s best players, for a remark that was likely said in the heat of the moment (and possibly repeated 9 more times), knowing that it would rile and agitate an opponent-- not necessarily because Suarez is racist-- seems a bit of an overreaction.

    ReplyDelete
  44. LFC claim to be the people's club,  and they proclaim to not tolerate any form of racism whatsoever. So to ban him for 3 games is a suitable punishment?

What's more serious Tevez allegedly refusing to play or Suarez allegedly making racist remarks.  Logic suggests Suarez's action is more serious because its much more than football which is at stake here.  Clubs reputation, affects diverse fan base around the globe etc.  YET we are the same people when Tevez refused to play for City we were spouting various suggestions on how to punish him- play him in reserves, dismiss him to name but a few.

It seems to me some of us on here need to check our priorities.

  53. You should look at what Evra is saying to Suarez,he quite clearly says something before Suarez turns,he was in his face, provoking him, what was said by Evra the lying French scumbag.Oops sorry are we allowed to call it as is it is or not, they want Suarez banned because he made fools of their defence.

    ReplyDelete
  57. So? Players mouth off to each other almost constantly during matches. That doesn't excuse the alleged racism. Why make a point of Evra being French? What does that have to do with anything?

This is a very serious accusation and I sincerely hope that it isn't true. If it is then I don't want Suarez at the club. On the flip side, due to making the accusation in the public arena I expect significant proof or else Evra needs to face punishment as well.

In the meantime I just wish that we could stop seeing ignorant commentary coming from the masses but that's probably on par with expecting good faith on the part of the woman who just needs my bank details to help free up the millions of dollars left behind by her dead uncle.

  60. I'm still perplexed as to why calling someone ni--er is totally unacceptable but most other insults are ok. What is it about one particular word?
From watching the clips it appears Evra is having a right go at Suarez many times during the match, is this ok?
Evra should get on with playing or leading the national team of France out on strike again.
I thought it was quite funny he says to the leading TV station in France, ' I don't want to make a big deal of this'
Of course he does, otherwise he would have spoken to Suarez privately.
If Evra cannot substantiate this accusation, I think a long ban is the only solution.

  61. With the greatest of respect, and as an Irishman, whose country is still partitioned, and whose people have suffered more than most as a result of British Imperialism, you can't blame either white people nor British people for the sins of the past no more than you can blame ordinary Germans for the atrocities of WW2 or Hitler. When the truth rears its' head then apportion blame, until then it's all merely speculation. An eye for an eye would make the whole world blind. No race nor creed is without history but every race and creed can build a future. If you knew anything more than a blinkered version of history you'd realise that many Africans were sold onto slave ships by Africans themselves. The world has changed, about time you changed with it.

  66. Mikearms totally understand your point. The reason this is, is because once an issue can be made political for a parties gain they will heavily put it forward under the guise of things like "equality" or where I come from a "fair go". This is totally double standards by all involved in society. And (fraudulent on the parties part)! If you are interested in true equal rights you will treat each slur mentioned above with equal punishment especially in situations where you are born with the perceived defect or difference.

In this case usually the middle or high class feed the "racism" fight to the lower class and they lap it up like they are some sort of dalai lama or Martin luther king Jr reborn. Without really attempting any kind of true equal rights thus serving their need to feel morally fantastic while missing the true point entirely. Totally agree with you Mike.

  67. I agree he should be punished if Suarez didn't say the " N " word ... But to kick himout is a bit harsh ...

Dont forget it goes both ways ....

    ReplyDelete
  68. Adam, Suarez speaks Spanish, and Evra French, both of which are closely linked 'romance' languages - they'd probably understand each other better than you or I.  However, I suspect that any comments made would have been in English.

What we  know is that Evra is a bit 'sensitive' to these types of comments and that Saurez can be a bit of a hot head - but that does not equal racial comments.  I'm not prepared to sweep the claims under the carpet as we have to remember that a comment is offensive if someone is offended by it in this land of tolerance.  If Suarez had referred to Evra as a N***** as quoted in French media, then he needs the book throwing at him.  But lets have a proper investigation to understand the facts before determining any punishments.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Thats a bit of a broad statement, suggesting that all frenchmen are arrogant.  My experience of working in both London and Paris is that there is almost no difference between the levels of arrogance between English and French men.  There is a mutual disslike on the whole of what each other epitomises (English feel French are arrogant, French feel English are aggressive and ignorant), but the reality of the people they meet seldom backs this up.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'm going to spare embarrassing you any further on here, you seem quite capable of doing that yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Mike, you're missing the point on why racial slurs are so offensive to so many people, and as white anglo-saxon/celtic men, these are things that we have not needed to be familiar with.  The bottom line is that for 1000 years Africans were taken from their homes and forced into slavery by wealthier Europeans (and others).  They had no rights in society and in too many cases they were treated abhorrently.  Whilst slavery was banned 300 years ago in the UK, nothing was really done to address the consideration that people of African decent were still a sub-class until the 50's/60's.  Its a terrible past and something nations should be ashamed of.  Whilst gingers et al are verbally abused, there has never been such wide spread abuse or persecution of them just because of their hair colour.  Next to racism, then next bad abuses are anti-semetism and homophobia.  Both unacceptable, but things like this need to be tackled in order of priority (IMHO)

    ReplyDelete
  72. In the Chelsea case he left the MUFC coaching staff to make the comments to keep himself out of the picture. It's no coincidence that Evra is at the centre of all of these incidents!

  84. This is not a club v club issue. This is about decency. Some of you on here seem to want to dismiss it regardless. None of us know for sure what was said, but Suarez said something and it doesn't look nice. And, some of you don't seem to realise, the fact that Evra has accused people before, so what? Guess what, some people have been racially abused more than 3 times in their life. What are you people saying, there should be a limit to the number of times that you speak about it? The fact that Suarez has never been caught doing it before does not prove innocence either. And this stupid idea that if it can't be proven that Suarez was guilty, then Evra should be KICKED OUT OF THE COUNTRY (!?), well those kind of comments show where some of you stand on these issues immediately. I hope Suarez is innocent, but it would not shock me if he was not. His comment about being a child who comes on the pitch with innocent enthusiasm, or whatever it was, doesn't ring true, either, I'm afraid. What, when he is not biting ro handballing on the line?

  85. So, your comments prove what, exactly? On that basis, the first day that someone called Hitler racist, people would dismiss it. If players cannot hear what is said, over 45,000 voices from the crowd, why would they back it up? And how, exactly, do you think that a player could refuse to play on? You are so keen to show/prove it did not happen you are saying things that make no sense and do not prove anything.

  86. Sure, so what does that have to do with the claims? If they are true, does that justify what would have been said? Maybe Suarez was not calling him a sportsman either.

  87. I think you will find that Nikolas Anelka was the troublemaker in the World Cup. The whole French squad were unhappy with Domenech and Evra, as the captain acted on behalf of all the players when the dispute went on. His job as a captain is to represent the players and be the vocal point between the players and the management. I think it must have been a difficult situation as Anelka had called Domenech a "son of a whore" in the dressing room and was being backed up by the other players.

And with regards to Evras previous claim against the groundsman at Chelsea. The Chelsea groundsman was convicted in that case and found guilty of abusive behavior.
