Stephane Henchoz: "I won so many times against Manchester United!"

Former Liverpool FC defender Stephane Henchoz played in seven victories against Manchester United during his career at Anfield, and he recently revealed his two favourite wins over the club's arch-rivals.

Under Gerard Houllier, Henchoz formed a formidable partnership with Sami Hyypia, which was vital to Liverpool's dominance over Man United between March 2000 and March 2003. Henchoz fondly remembers the 2-0 win at Anfield in March 2001:

“I won so many times against Manchester United! I remember Stevie scoring a wonderful goal - probably one of his best goals for Liverpool - and then Robbie scoring the second. The Man United game is always special, just like Everton, but…beating Man United gives you more happiness than Everton because Man United is the better team.”

The 1-0 victory at Old Trafford in December 2000 was a personal triumph for Henchoz:

"We won 1-0 against Man United at Old Trafford, which is always a great result, and it was probably one of my best games for Liverpool, as a defensive unit and as n individual.

"We prepared for this game in a special way on the training ground; we really had a gameplan, and it was effective. We defended very well, and flew straight at them. United were used to scoring 2, 3 or 4 goals every home game, but they kept coming at us and couldn’t find a solution.

"Danny Murphy scored a great free kick, and it’s not the only one he scored, so it showed he was a free kick specialist"

Here's hoping for more of the same on Saturday!
