LUIS SUAREZ: Is Kenny Dalglish playing right into the hands of Barcelona?

Luis Suarez was visibly upset after being substituted against Wolves yesterday, and as soon as the final whistle went, he sped off down the tunnel as quickly as possible. Players get subbed off all the time, and there's absolutely no shame in being replaced by Steven Gerrard, so why was Suarez particularly upset? For me, the answer is obvious, and I can understand his frustration.

The answer to the question 'who is Liverpool's most substituted player this season?' should not be 'Luis Suarez', but unfortunately, it is: Suarez has been subbed off more than any other player. Let's look at the facts:

- Subbed in 6 out of 8 games this season (75% of games)

- Scored 4 goals this season; Subbed off 3 times after scoring.

- Overall, since January: Scored 8 goals; Subbed off 5 times after scoring.

- Scored against Sunderland earlier in the season then dropped for the next game against Arsenal (a prestige game, so it's more frustrating than being 'rested' for, say, Swansea City)

Suarez has clearly been Liverpool's most effective player this season so I can understand his frustration at persistently being yanked off.

If it happens once or twice, it's normal and understandable; when it happens 6 times in 8 games, it's arguably disproportionate, and judging by Suarez's reaction after going off, that's probably exactly what he feels.

Additionally, it must be galling for Suarez to be repeatedly subbed off when playing well, whilst players making no real contribution get to stay on.

Take the Wolves substitution, for example: Suarez went off after 81 minutes. What exactly was the point? Given the fact he scored, and was a major threat all game, where was the harm in letting him stay on the field an extra nine minutes?

There were several other options Dalglish could've considered, the most obvious being Charlie Adam, who was clearly running on fumes by that time anyway.

And please don't give me the 'but we have to take care of him because he played in the Copa America' excuse. If that was true, then he wouldn't be starting Carling Cup games against lower-league clubs. If Liverpool really want to protect Suarez then surely he should be rested for such games?

The last thing Liverpool needs is for its best players to become frustrated by questionable man-management (admittedly, a rarity for Dalglish). We've seen enough of that over the last few years, and it has led to many good players leaving the club frustrated.

There have been rumours in the recent past that Barcelona will try and sign Suarez in January. In July this year, Suarez himself was quoted in Spanish sports weekly Don Balon, saying the following:

"Before meeting Pere Guardiola, my current agent, I had this desire, this dream of a chance to play for that team [Barcelona],"

It is a cast-iron inevitability that at some point, the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid will be in for Suarez, so one of the club's priorities should (surely) be keeping him happy.

That doesn't mean kowtowing to demands or treating him differently, it just means making smart decisions, like allowing Suarez to finish a game more than 25% of the time (!)

Was it really worth annoying one of the club's vital players for the sake of nine measly minutes? Was that the smart decision there? I personally don't think so.

I'm not condoning Suarez's reaction, but whether we like it or not, he was annoyed at being subbed off, and that could develop into a bigger problem if he continues to be removed from games (when it's not warranted), especially after scoring.

If things continue this way, then Liverpool are undoubtedly playing right into Barcelona's hands.

  2. Maybe because Suarez has played football all through the summer, havivg only 1 week break, hes 23 hes not superman, so he needs to rest. what a load of rubbish this article is, not being funny but Barca were haggling over Cescs fee at 35 million, how will they ever be able to afford at leat 65 million pounds on Suarez?

    ReplyDelete
  3. For once, I agree with you., KD's favoritism for these under performing British players is gonna cost us dearly.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Marc - your views are welcome but cut out the needless derogatory comments.  (I've edited your post).

If Suarez needs a rest then why not rest him against Brighton?  Did he *really* need to play in that game? It doesn't make any sense: Carroll needs goals to build confidence yet he's rested in a game where he has an easier chance of scoring, yet Suarez, who needs resting, starts?

As I said: makes no sense.

  5. The betting market was giving 1.5 ball to Wolves. Suarez cannot afford to score another goal. That is why he is taken off so that Liverpool can win 2-1 while bookies still win the pot. That is also the reason Carrol did not shoot at the last minute when he was open in front of goal. It's all fixed.

  6. Give over.  How is this doom and gloom?  Should we all just live in a bubble and ignore the realities?  This is a valid issue of discussion, whether you like it or not.

  7. Sorry, but I think this is nonsense again from you, Jaimie. The reason he is subbed off time and again is so the crowd can show their appreciation for his contirbution. This is a common tactic which KK employs, and its meant to be a reward for him, hes not "yanked off" as you put it.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Any you know this to be true, how...? That's just an assumption. What is factual is that Suarez was upset about being subbed off. That is a problem - it doesn't matter who is right or wrong, or whether Suarez's reaction is acceptable; the fact is he was upset, and that is a concern.

    ReplyDelete
  9. don't bother Jaimie, too many fans have blind faith in KD and are deluded.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Why is that such a concern to fans? KK can deal with that surely? Havent you noticed that some players are just like that? Should Mancini be worried every time Mario Balotelli seems disgruntled? This sort of thing happens almost every week with one player or another. Look on the bright side for once!  And its not an assumption, he has Gerrard warming up by the touchline for the same reason. He has also subbed Carroll earlier this season when he had his first good game.

  11. very good point mate i totally understand his frustration. he is eager to play with stevie G as you can see when he was subed twice he hugged our captain instead of handshaking. stupid decisions by the manager its going to cost us!

  12. If Liverpool is on the up why would he want to go to Barcelona? If John Henry and KD have there way Liverpool will rule again. And I don't think it will be all that far away... If we're winning and he has a guaranteed starting spot, why risk it to go to another club?

  13. Doesn't mean he will leave...... Just means he loves playing football.....

  14. Brighton away in a cup match is arguably more important and more difficult than wolves at home should be

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jaime There's no news like bad news eh?

Suarez was tiring in yesterday's match giving the ball away just as he was at Brighton.

Due to him not having a full pre-season due to the Copa America it is widely known that the Liverpool fitness coaches have advised that Suarez is taken off towards the end of a match. Luis is aware of this and I'm happy he wants to stay on, we need that determination to succeed. They are trying to stop Luis getting injured which is more likely for a tiring player. So this act by Dalglish is in fact trying to ensure he plays more games and doesn't miss them through injury.Take it from me this is the truth.

Suarez has apologised for his fit of pique. Lets stop the nonsense about this forcing him to Barcelona, I doubt they can afford him.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The reaction from Suarez was a bit worrying.

However, leave for Barcelona or Real and you might find yourself on the bench. Dalglish himself would have noticed his reaction and probably already has had a chat with the player. I myself would not have taken him off but being subbed for the club captian should not end in such a scene. You are wearing a shirt with the Liverbird on it and players should behave when they are wearing it no matter how frustrated they become.

  18. Im gonna throw one outta left field here and ill probably be caned for it but my reasoning is Daglish to drive Suarez out to the biggest suitor that way he gets an extra 50 mill pound to spend on his rubbish British buys. Getting totally sick of watching his British flops take the field week in week out.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I disagree with that statement in about 100 different ways :-)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Im not saying he will leave; I'm just saying if he continues to subbed in 74% of games, he could grow more frustrated, which is obviously not good.

    ReplyDelete
  21. In response to your concern KD says "not anyone player is bigger than Liverpool Football Club." If they don't want to be there then they can leave, there is always another Suarez just like he replaced Torres! No doubt it would be some big money made in only a year too. Although I don't see this happening Luis is a passionate player that can not control himself when he is in game mode, once he cools down he gets his head straight and is a lot more mature and understanding....

    ReplyDelete
  22. Spot on post, don't normally agree with your posts but this is spot on.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Where is the evidence that he would go to Barcelona. A highly speculative article designed for hits. Suarez is a passionate footballer, he wants to be on the pitch that was the reason he looked pissed off.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Tom it is no secret that he has professed his dream to one day play for Barcelona. It is a real possibility and subbing him off when hes on fire while others are just making up the numbers is a sure way to pushing him out.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Any player should shed his pride and play for the team and not for himself. I really hope that we do not rely on a couple of players completely again and again  ( and later call him a traitor when he leaves to another club ). Seriously I would be happy if we win a couple of games without suarez's help

    ReplyDelete
  26. typical jamie kanwar article stirring up trouble when theres none there. suarez was playing all though the summer and was outstanding, ie he exherted himself very hard through the summer. He's played nearly a whole game and the manager wants to rest him as well as protect him. imagine if suarez had stayed on til the end and one of wolves palyers went straight through him and injured him. youd be the first to criticise KD for not protecting him. The game was all but won and we had enough attacking options on the pitch to maintain a goal threat. The sensible option is to show faith and confidence in carroll who needs to know the manger has faith in him to get his confidence up as well as he needs game time. Carrolls biggest criticism is that hes not match fit and lacking sharpness and although i'm a little worried its taking carroll some time to get match fit again, he has been injured for a long time. Carroll needs match time, suarez doesnt, he needs a rest. Stevie G needs slowly re-introducing to games to get his match fitness up. and if suarez is so shallolw and fickle that he'd rather go to barca then redevelop the reds team, then let him go. Ian Rush went to Juve to everyones distress and then we had one of the finest teams ever produced.

  27. i think Luis lost all respect for kenny there is more to this story then we know...
and for brittish players that is the epl so the players from outside looking in get use to it, they have no class...barsa here we come, unless kenny is gone.

    ReplyDelete
  28. There seems to be a clamour to make a mountain out of a molehill in the media nowadays. It's often more for the notereity than the subject itself. The fact is that we're talking about a man who bit someone on the shoulder. A damaged water bottle is the least of our potential problems with this guy. Footballers are paid to 'kick ball, score, go home. Managers aren't. Luis as a player wants to do that from the start to the final whistle and to his credit he does that all game, every game. Kenny has to curtail his enthusiasm especially in the hustle and bustle of the Premier League. Maybe he should be made to see that the reason he is most substituted is because he is the most protected. The reason he is most protected is because he is the most valued.

The bottom line is however that he has publicly apologised for his minor reaction prior to this piece being written. Hence you have to question the reasoning for the sensationalism contained in it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. i disagree with u..because our chances of winning the cup is higher than the league..and kenny itself said he takes the cup competition seriosly...and your complaining about 9 minutes...what happened to gerrard when his hisa subtiution was late..he got injured...EVEN 1 MINUTE MAKE ADIFFERENCE...SO DONT START THIS RUMOUR THAT HE IS NOT GOING TO BE HAPPY BLABLA..IF HE IS NOT...THE DOOR IS LEFT OPNE...THE CLUB IS BIGGER THAN THE PLAYER...WHEN WE CAN REPLACE TORRES...WE CAN STILL DO THE SAME WITH SUAREZ, n im not saying than suarez should be sold...im telling that its his nature that to get angry for coming out...all players so have that.,.but dont start a new conspiracy that Kenny Dalglish playing right into the hands of Barcelona!!

  30. If he gonna go he will no matter what....kenny will find better.

    ReplyDelete
  31.  haha....I wouldnt pay any attention to "internet lfc fans"...neither does KK. The real fans back him over ANY player any day. After all if saf could let becks go at the height of his game and rebuild a winning team, KK can do it better, an no amount of couchebag internet fans will stop that. Besides how many of these so called fans here are united fans trolling? Hoping enough negativity will get KD fired? NOT GOIN to happen....This aint chelsea with player power crap nor arsenal with fan power crap. KD is here to stay and he will take LFC to sustained greatness (again) in his own way.

    ReplyDelete
  32. And then spend 65 million pounds on some other junk forward just cause we can.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Why has the bit about this being part of an increased media sensationalism been edited out? My point is that it's fine to be critical, but starting a groundswell of doom and gloom is a sensationalist media tactic that I had hoped had left the club with the departures of Hicks, Gillett and Benitez. In fact Charlie Nicholas said himself that Kenny would have felt exactly the same way had he been taken off. No need for a sensationalist 'Suarez to Barca' piece. We're all fans and we all have a responsibility for the well being of this club. When we start up blogs that fan instability and uncertainty over so little it feels like the 2009/10 LFC circus again.

As much as debate and critique is welcomed maybe it would be more responsible to include Luis' Facebook comments after the game and to state that Barca, having already signed Alexis Sanchez, and having Messi, Villa and Pedro have not even been rumoured to have expressed any interest in Suarez. Also that all of Suarez' recent comments have stated that he is more than happy at Liverpool despite this relatively minor incident.

    ReplyDelete
  34. "but being subbed for the club captian should not end in such a scene"

OR it could be that Suarez was humiliated.  When Suarez was shaking his head on
the touchline he was examining Carroll's first touch and how Carroll is able to control
it further and harder than Suarez himself can shoot it.

Suarez will be off sooner rather than later.  No amount of love for any job will keep you somewhere if you kind find the same level of enjoyment and appreciation for your work in a warmer climate where the culture is closer to your own.  I have no illusions regarding Suarez.  He has shown himself to be world class in his play and also in his attitude on the pitch.  When he leaves Liverpool fans should take a leaf out of the Ajax fans book and give him the send off he will inevitably deserve.  LFC bigger than ANY individual.

  36. Just because he's KK, does not mean he's god and immune to mistakes or criticism. SAF has proven to be a great manager with united usually challenging for the title every year, How can "KK do it better" when we've spent over 100 million on new players and yet struggled against wolves at home. I wish you were right, I wish we did attain greatness under KK, but judging the performances thus far, we'll be lucky to even be in the top four come May. Suarez seems to be the only player capable of getting us anywhere near the top, if we lose him, i doubt we'll see another champions  league night at Anfield for years.

  39. If Kenny keeps taking him off then yes he will be off in a Flash, he wants to play football so for god sake leave him on the pitch!

Suarez is our "main man" we have to build around him, because Andy Carroll aint gona fire us up the league.

Suarez is our "go to guy" if were gona do anything this season. Kenny has already wasted around £100mill on utter garbage like Henderson + Adam, oh + Andy Carroll.

If we dont get 4th this season then im afraid Luis will be off. Kennys spent all that money he has to make it work.

Its 4th or nothing for us this year

IMO 4th is gona be very hard especially when we got a reality check from Tottenham a few weeks ago. The players he has brought in are not good enough IMO, Downing + Enrique are the only 2 that have come off so far

    Henderson is utter garbage

    ReplyDelete
  40. you missed my point, i said based on our performances thus far, but fair enough, you're right and i cant argue with your logic on this. Frankly I'm not worried. The owners have stated their aims, top four this season. If Kenny fails, he'll be out. Simple. If he succeeds, we'll all share a pint and look back on this thinking how silly we were.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Better than a top player at his best when he is 24? I honestly don't see many now except a few who are too expensive, so please treat him well, he has showed he is worth every pound they paid for him.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree with Jamie - I don't see why KK has to substitute Suarez so often. As much as I am a fan of KK, I think his bias towards British players is evident and its a matter of time, before players like Suarez take it to heart.

It's one thing if KK had bought good British players, but Henderson, Adams and Carroll are crap. His actions will only alienate the foreign players.

kenny has started showing his disappointment to lfc faitful and the way kenny favoured only the british players, its going to make other europe stars to leave lfc and am sure with the way kenny is gambling now SUAREZ is not going to be some how happy at lfc and anything can happen and if kenny continue to make good players whom could've help to take lfc to were it belongs then it will be difficult for lfc to have a player of LUIS SUAREZ in lfc for a longer time.

    ReplyDelete
  49. We don't need to worry about suarez.....its when barca..real Madrid ...Milan and inter come looking for carragher ..spearing ..Henderson ..Carroll and even Adams

  50. Obviously only the scum would say something like you just have? Pity you do not have a Suarez playing for you and so much for Clooney who wanted to go to City for a bigger paycheck.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Agree with you...Could not put it better ...its time people saw kenny as a Kevin keegan waiting to happen

    ReplyDelete
  52. Everyone needs to calm down. We are a work in progress, hes got his mate Coates to come to livepool. We may add another uruguay playmaker. We can all asume that hes going to leave but i would like to think he is here for the long hall. Put it this way I feel more positive about this team than I did 12 months ago. We will have more good days than bad days and Suarez will be here enjoying most of the good days.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Don't see the point of this article other than to clearly peddle another anti lfc story. He is being subbed cos kenny wants to save him. He's had a busy summer & has started most games already for lfc this season, even v Brighton
He's south American & a striker, he will never be happy gettin subbed.
Kenny was exactly the same in his day.
Please stop making up unsupported & suggestive rubbish & look at some of the more positive sides to lfc. Our newly constructed team is playing good attacking footy & we have a manager that is building with fans that are on the whole very supportive.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Jamie K......Firstly, I just want to say that even though I have criticised your articles/comments on a number of occasions, I actually think you do a good job raising online debate amongst us fans. I actually don't believe you believe everything you write and just use an opinion that you know will get people writing. So keep it up! Secondly, when you write your next blog please ask your readers to add to their comments whether they actually attended the match (or indeed any match) that day/this season. It'll be an interesting study come the end of this season how many of the 'doom and gloom' fans went to a match, or have ever been to a match. If you can, log their names so that when Carroll, Henderson & Adam start to come good, we'll see how quickly these so-called fans change their tune.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I said Adam tires in the second half of matches, this means Lucas has to cover more ground because Adam is struggling for fitness.  Nothing sensational there is there?  I am not saying Adam is a bad player.  Ian Holloway and Craig Levein use him in a three because they know he's not a 90 minute box to box man.  We will soon discover this the hard way.

    ReplyDelete
  56. And you have conveniently ignored the fact that he hasn't had any rest over the summer? Dalglish is actually doing a fantastic job managing Suarez.

You have a right to express your opinions and I have a right to express mine. This is the worst Liverpool blog EVER.

Mali341, yours is a stupid comment

    ReplyDelete
  59. I know that you were reffering to Adam getting tired, that is what you wrote isn't it?

I however cannot agree with you that Lucas was acting like a wheelchair for Adam. Maybe you should watch the match again and see what Charlie contributed towards it instead of praising Lucas the whole time. Could not see myself that Adam was actually tired but if he was it is because he worked his socks off.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Its down to over use of the player and football tactics. Luis has played all through the summer and will suffer later in the season if he is overused. I can understand other players doing less and should be replaced on performance, but replacing Luis will perhaps fit in with tactics at that time, and also look after him.

Arsenal came on the back of a performace against Sunderland where Luis looked tired after half time having been back in training about a week or so. I don't think that counts as dropped? Rested is a better and more fitting term for this seasons best player.

I think Luis realised this but the press just make it sound like he is complaining. Just get off his case.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Again, I ask the same question: why not rest him against Brighton and play Carroll instead? Does that not make more sense. And do you really believe that missing the last 9 minutes of a game means Suarez has been 'rested'? Come on, let's get real here (!)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Kenny needs to use his players better Skrtel at R.B after the Stoke game never thought i would see him there again but voila.
Players like young Henderson playing out of position not helping his confidence and why Bellamy and Kuyt arent used more is beyond me.
I am not sure though Jamie that Barca are chasing Suarez as at times his finishing  is not what it should be, a very good player though and no doubt in 2 or more seasons they may come calling.
I really wonder too if Carroll is to be successsful  he spends a few weeks in the reserves to gather a couple of goals.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Suarez was the only player on the pitch capable to keep the ball upfront during that crucial moment,so KK make a wrong coaching.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Kenny did exactly the same thing to Peter Beardsley so there is an element of consistency.  Beardo and Suarez hardly ever play safe.  A trick or shimmy in the last 5 minutes that doesn't come off coupled with lethargy in the side both mentally and physically more often than not results in a break away goal.  Beardo got subbed and now like a haunted tale that begins '20 years.... to this very day' Suarez is getting subbed.

    ReplyDelete
  65. If Flanno hadn't turned into Josemi during our pre season matches i'm sure Kenny would have played him ahead of Skrtel at rb.  I'm sure Flanno will be decent in the future but at the moment he is reckless and dives into to tackles to hear the roar of the appreciating crowd.  When he comes down of cloud 9 he'll develop into a good player.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I like ur statement... Nowdays SPORTS ARE ENTERTAIMENT. support ur team and have fun..

  67. Jamie you really know how to start a bullshit debate. Your a sad man first Rafa now Kenny its no wonder any level headed LFC fan think your a wanker

    ReplyDelete
  68. I think KD is making a big mistake playing Henderson and Carroll before Kuyt and Bellamy. We're going to lose more games this season if KD continues like this. Hope KD will see some sense in what he's doing and leaving in bench his flops.

    ReplyDelete
  69. There are two possibilities: Dalglish was protecting Suarez or Dalglish is making the point that Carroll isn't shite & There are no stars at LFC. Famous for his "man-management" Dalglish clearly did not speak to Suarez either before the match or at half time and discuss with him why he'd be coming off. No two ways about it Suarez was furious. So to me it looks like Dalglish was making a point. Logically Bellamy and Suarez are the primary strikeforce: one didn't play and one was subbed. Carroll has been shite since day 1 yet he gets the full match. Henderson and Adam have been shite also and really should be benchers. Yet they get full matches also. There's more to this than meets the eye. You cannot argue he has bought shite and keeps playing them. Without Suarez we are a middle table team at best. So for me, I'd give the guy what he thinks he wants. Pacing him = him fucking off. Then we are truly fucked. No one bigger than the club? True but Suarez is the only player we have that isn't average. (SG notwithstanding)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yes mate, like Carroll, Henderson and Adams !!, stick to American ''football'' nob

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think he will be subbed in the next game vs everton as Kenny wants to unleash te Suarez gerrard partnership against man united. United won't be able to have a plan for it and they will be unstoppable - better than Torres gerrard of 08/09
It upsetting but I hope Kenny can keep him happy as he is one of the future leaders and stars at LFC

    ReplyDelete
  72. It means that kenny will end up losing the plot like Kevin keegan because he ain't good enough.....not win the league.

    ReplyDelete
  73. We should be worried if stoke come for Carroll ...we can live without useless foreigners

    ReplyDelete
  74. I can see what you're saying with playing into Barcelona's hands but unfortunately I think no matter how happy he is he will at some point leave for Barcelona he's always wanted to play there and he is definately good enough to go there but yeah i think if it was 4/5 - 1 then bring him off with nine minutes to go (he'd still probably be unhappy about it because that's him) but I think Kenny should have kept him on because he could of got that other goal and we may have needed it but right now I think he is happy with the team winning but like you said more just pulling him off for the sake of it and he will get angry but he did talk the club up to Coates so he can't be too mad so lets just enjoy the fact we won eh?

    ReplyDelete
  75. At least he's unhappy to be coming off rather than unhappy whilst playing like Torres was. At the end of the day, if/when Barca do come calling, he will go there as its his dream (regardless of whether he gets subbed a lot or not). Clearly Coates was brought in with Suarez in mind, and it seems like we're in for fellow Uruguayan Gaston Ramirez in January, so I hope Saurez will be happy for a long time to come!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Agree with you for the second week,Jamie, whats happened.Suarez will leave if he keeps seeing second raters stay on and he gets subbed.I didnt realize how high his sub rate was, shocked, thats all I can say.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Another sensationalist, negative post Jamie. How's that search for another team to haunt coming?

    ReplyDelete
  78. I can tell you this, if Barcelona goes in for Suarez then there's no way we'll be able to keep him here, whatever we'll do. Barcelona is his dream club, he's said so numerous times during his period at Ajax. He even already owns a house there, and his family in law lives there. But I don't see that happening any time soon. But if we aren't title contenders within 2 season then it'll be hard keeping him.

That said, I do think KK is trying to protect him. Last season he came back from a long suspension and winter break. We were lucky because when he joined us he was fully rested. Before that he was exhausted at Ajax because of the World Cup, and it showed. But Suarez doesn't know when to take a break and he'll never admit to being tired, he just keeps going and going.

  79. wtf if he went we'd go through  bout 5 more strikers before we get on like him again, surez obviously has ambitions of being top goal scorer or breaking club records as any striker would so to lose a lot of game playe its hard to compete with augerio and rooney.

  80. In so far as I have noticed, Kenny is bent hell to lay down Liverpool. firstly against sunderland where we can get 3 points he persisted with Carrol. against stock he again persisted with carrol. In all the game where Liverpool got points it was tanks to surez. Everyone know that carrol is not a player worth more than 1 mllion. than why kenny is bringing him forth all the time and not allowing to set up a undersanding between surez, Balmey, Downing, Kuyt, Henderson, Jucas. He just want to bring forth carrol to justify his nonsense purchasing and starts boosting of whatsoever a little effort carrol made forgetviely. Liverpool Back is a real concern. even vary ordinary teams scoring against liverpool and nullyfying all the goals scored by our forwards. I think it is a right time to change kenny and bring some wise manager to handle the ting properly..

  81. It’s disheartening to see a player in the mold of Henderson keeping
the likes of Bellamy, Kuyt, Maxi, Meireles, Aqua, and recently Stev out
of the team. It is more disheartening to see Kenny gamble with our team
all in the name of restoring confidence on some lads while the entire
team suffer loss of confidence, and by extension loss of points. I put
it to Kenny that non of his summer acquisitions with the exception of
Jose, has added anything particular to that terrific team that ended
last season; rather they depleted their standard. We had to struggle
against Wolves because we played 9 against 11 for the better part of the
game; because Adam too got missing after the deflected goal. I wouldn’t
know what is going on in the minds of Kuyt, Bellamy, Maxi and
particularly Stev, who is constantly swapped with the same Suarez he has
been yearning to play with. Body language makes me believe Suarez is
not enjoying the services/results he is getting, and we all know he is
not a very patient person, so who knows....?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Adam worked his sock off!! What game were you watching ?
He did nothing ..but your one of the few that seems to think we was a workhorse...lol

    ReplyDelete
  83. I find it amusing that you NEED to attend a match to have any clue as to how a game is played out. Like im supposed to fly over to England to watch a match...you knitwit. Only smallminded people who live in a little bubble would think like that...Get it through your thick skull LFC is bigger than the city of Liverpool itself. It is an instituition and thats the reason FSG  decided to purchase it. Its like your saying only the English know how to play football cause they watch the EPL ...if that is the case why have England failed to win anything in the past 50 yrs. If we are gonna talk stupid comments then anyone who goes to EPL matches has no idea about how tactics are played out hence why their national team is utter crap!!!

    ReplyDelete
  84. You have a player who wants to play, demand to play, so you play him but for 80 minutes or so. well known fact injuries occur in last ten minutes when muscles are tired, particularly in ap layer who hasn't rested all summer and who is a high energy player. You'd all regret it if hew pulled a hamstring or adductor and was out for 6 weeks....And so would he!

    ReplyDelete
  85. All I have to say is this. Suarez wants to be top goal scorer in the Premiership. Deep down he knows hes the best player in the team atm. He has come out and said its down to teamwork and not individuals but that's just to protect the egos of players like Carroll and Henderson who are struggling to hit form. Suarez has that special ability just like Torres had. When he gets sniff of a chance he can score. He may have wasted a few chances already this season, but it wont affect his game but fuel him. The man is a genius because he doesn't need to think when he gets the ball and is always alert and involved, where as other players are shuffling and watching their teammate with the ball and not making any significant runs. Its not only strikers that can learn from Suarez, its midfielders too. This man is goal obligated, and it shows the way he plays. People talk about how role models have to be ethically correct (deliberate handball at W.C) and show good manners (yelling at the ref). This players doesn't need to do that, he inspires people by the way he plays and that a better role model than anyone who wants loves football.

    ReplyDelete
  86. and thats the best role model for anyone who loves football*

  87. Not often I agree with you Jaimie - but I do on this occasion. I obviously have huge respect for KK, but a couple of decisions leave me scratching my head at times. Why is Henderson starting over Kuyt? Why is Bellamy not starting over Carroll?

Having said that, KK has years of experience and I'm sure he knows what he's doing - and who the hell am I?!

    ReplyDelete
  88. The club is also bigger than the manager who is causing this unnecessary problem.

    ReplyDelete
  89. They are so deluded that they have forgotten that he was sacked at Newcastle United.

    ReplyDelete
  90. His actions will also get him the sack soon. The American owners will not put up with any problems that might emerge as a result of this very open biased behaviour by Dalglish.

    ReplyDelete
  91. KD is here to stay if he finishes in a top 4 spot this season. He wasn't the owners choice to be manager. Judging by Liverpool's constant poor performances, I 'll be very surprised if he is still in this job by this time next year.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Suarez is only playing like this because Andy Carroll is bringing the best out of him on the pitch . that's why king kenny bought Carroll and Jamie carragher is inspiring him from the back

  95. You mean british players mate, and i agree carrol, henderson and adam
are pretty useless would like to know if commoli sought these players
because if it was kenny that would really worry me.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I am liverpool born and bred, and i agree that the british players we
have bought are crap! now if you atr going to use british players i would
try and bring in some more liverpool born players who would give you more passion and determination having a love and desire to perform in the red
shirt of lfc, after all thats what drives the local lads as in the past, fowler case
    mcdermott,thompson etc.

  97. Suarez is a brilliant player that has brought a freshness to the Liverpool squad.  After losing Torres in a heart braking deal to Chelsea the only thing positive in that  was the fee (also his poor form).  Consider how we started last season losing Mascherano in a similar fashion to Barcelona.  We cared a massive hang over into last season that led to our confidence collapse.  FAST FORWARD........... new owners, new manager, new investment and bigger and better squad.  What we have missed is leadership on the pitch.  With the return of our skipper I believe the future is bright.  Henderson has been frusta little Earlie into the first team and should be given time before judgement.  Andy Carrol has a sweet left foot and good aerial ability.  Unfortunately we have not seen enough of there use.  He clearly lacks sharpness that we associate with a player the has cost us £35m.  Given time and confidence he will come good.  I am more concerned with Jamie Charager at the moment as he is costing us a lot of goals.   I'm not happy with losing Meireles but I don't blame king Kenny for that.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Thanks to Suarez for the good days. Take him out of this average team and they will be exposed against much stronger oppositions.

  99. Suarez is a better player than Beardo.

  100. Liverpool are not strong enough to keep subbing their best player. The be all and end all of Liverpools season is the qualification for the Champions League. This will not be achieved by undermining the top player and playing players who are simply not of a standard to achieve this goal.UTD earned 45million from UEFA plus 100million from other sourses during the champions league last season competiton, these are the facts. The 100m Dalglish has spent is to bridge the 21pt gab with UTD[without them improving] and if anybody thinks that has been created well I know nothing about football.Facts and figures do not lie so next May will tell all the stories that need to be told.

  104. it is interesting that the comment I made yesterday has since been removed.  Now it wasn't inflammatory, overly critical or agressive in any shape or form.
This does however reveal a very REAL issue with this website and its author.  One who is clearly unwilling to take any critique made in a diplomatic manner.
PLEASE STOP WRITING ARTICLES THAT DO NOTHING BUT SUGGEST YOU ARE ANTI LFC & IN SEARCH OF ANY HINT OF A STORY FROM PERFECTLY REASONABLE REALITIES IN THE DAY TO DAY RUNNINGS OF A CLUB.
If you consider this post overly critical or insulting it says more about you the author than anything anyone could dream of writing.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I cant disagree more with the article....

Suarez has had basically zero time off the last 2 years , we should learn from how Gerrard's body has deteriorated over the last 12 months to realize we need to start protecting our best players.

Why sub Saurez....well 1 could be that we were a goal up and were playing mostly on the counter and needed another body in midfield . SG needs game time and  to break up your center midfield with 10 min to go is a bit risky . Suarez was busy the entire game and with fatigue comes and greater risk of muscular injury.

Not starting at Arsenal was mostly due to his late return from the Copa and a great tactical move of using the muscle of Kuyt and Carroll to fatigue the Gunners defense, then have Raul and Luis come on against tired legs.

At Spurs we were down and out why risk him , with no chance of any kind of a result.

Kenny is handling Luis very well , one just has to look @ Torres & Gerrard to see what impact the lack of rotation has done to them over the last 18 months.

    ReplyDelete
  106. i would have loved if Suaraz would have stayed on the pitch for last 10 mins but i was happy that Andy  was still on the pitch for the whole 90 mins as if kenny would have subed Andy after 81 mins then may be his confidence would have been dented , and if andy would have scored in the last 2 or 3 mins of the game his confidence level would have been increased, which would have been a great thing for the next game, so i was happy andy was on the pitch and disappointed that Suaraz was off.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Actually, Suarez had at least 2 months off last year after the biting incident when he was suspended. Even went for a vacation to Uruguay during that time. He was completely rested before he joined Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Kenny was the one who sought them; not Comolli. Dalglish even had a preference for Baines of Everton and thirty year old Bridges of Manchester City. Desperation and the goals conceeded during the pre season left him with no choice but to sign Enrique.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Which game was this?

    ReplyDelete
  110. Spearing and Kelly are two classic cases to back up your point.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Knowing Dalglish, if Suarez decided to leave, he will replace him with either Kevin Doyle, Shane Long, Aiden McGeady or Connor Wickham. Pity he didn't sign Wickham instead of Carroll.

    ReplyDelete
  112. You cannot see the wood from the trees :)

    ReplyDelete
  113. Suarez has only replaced Torres in the afection of the fans. Dalglish's direct replacement for Torres is Carroll.

    ReplyDelete
  114. No i dont follow Kenny like a black sheep that has lost his herd..I have my own opinion and open my eyes to whats actually happening out there. There are others who are blinded out there ...not reffering to anyone in particular :)

    ReplyDelete
  115. Top 4 in the league is the most important so you are wrong. Winning the league cup does nothing for the owners. They have invested heavily and they want results. By results they mean Champions League. Football is a business and Champions League is BIG business. Its not only prizemoney its sponsorship and prestige and with those two cash flow is greatly increased.

    ReplyDelete
  116. One of the very few that have shown his worth :) and im not trying to be sarcastic...but the others are just awful.

    ReplyDelete
  117. guys don't you get it? the reason we're so obsessed with suarez is coz the rest of the squad is so fuckin shite! on every game he's been our star player and that's worrying. a great team has to have at least 3 or 4 match winners. we could have had these players with the amount of money we've spent. FUCKING RIDICULOUS!!

    ReplyDelete
  118. so u r a source from the inside?

    ReplyDelete
  119. And u r delluded cos rate whiskey nose higher than kd

    ReplyDelete
  120. Actually Carroll should be the one to be substituted in the game..this performance this season so far..is suck..i dun see he running with ball..what he can do is just wait there and use his header to try luck..thats all
Henderson is still young, if KD wants, he can definately buy some better player..

    ReplyDelete
  121. I would've disagreed with this article, as I think that any player should be open to be substituted - even if he is easily the best player on the pitch.

However, I hadn't realised just how regularly Suarez has been subbed though. I agree with you Jamie - if Dalglish wants to rest Suarez then he shouldn't be playing him in early stage league games, as these will obviously be far more draining than playing an additional 10-20 mins in games where he's already in full flow. Suarez clearly wasn't knackered and should remain on the pitch to help the team get more goals/chances rather than being sacrificed while lesser teammates continue to plod around in his place

    ReplyDelete
  122. Agree, Jay - all players should accept being subbed, irrespective of how good they are.  There are plenty of ways to rest Suarez - not playing him in the early stages of league games as you suggest, or having him on the bench for the Carling Cup.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Absolutely spot on ! Couldn't agree more. KK really needs to wake up on this issue. some of his decisions this season have been weird to say the least and I do pickup that he DOES favour some players more than others. I love the man but I really am not a fan of favouritism.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I think he's being sarcastic.......

    ReplyDelete
  125. What does your managerial CV look like then? He won the league with 2 clubs which is an achievement. I understand the point of the article but I do feel that some fans, including you. if you are in fact a fan, should be behind the team and the staff until situations arise where it is no longer reasonable to do so. As we are only 6 games into the season, I don't think it's time to say KK is rubbish and should go.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I would like to see you do a better job. It's quite obvious that Dalglish sees Suarez as his star man and doesn't place others before him.

If you think Carroll and Adam are crap, even Henderson to an extent, then you are talking out of your arse... Go watch the team instead of hiding in your room having a go at them.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Dear o Dear so much negative comments by people who are clearly all professional managers or footballers and of course a direct line to KK's phone because you all know what you are talking about. AHUM

Seriously have you all watched the interviews with KK Comoli etc?? If you listen to all of them up to Henry is that this year is a transition year a year where we rebuild not just our 25man squad but Liverpool FC as a whole. All this about this player over paid and crap that player what a waste he is yaddayaddayadda.

As a lifelong LFC Supporter I have learned patience I remember several so called football fans and experts when KK became manager/player it will never work he will only play himself benefit himself and they all ended up eating their words.
Jaimie like your writing in most cases and the frustration with Surez is something he has always had. I was born and raised in Holland and still have many friends there. They warned me about him. A fantastic footballer and made youngest(i think) captain of Ajax and they all said the same his passion takes over and even when he was younger he looked frustrated being subbed its passion nothing else.Look at the training sessions he is all smiles. Do you or any of you listen in to KK when he speaks to the players in private. Besides what an honour to be subbed for StevieG.Suarez is a fantastic player who will be turned by money Yes he would love to play for Barca but then again who doesn't He would love to help LFC to glory and is reaction is passion not frustration he understand the reasons better then us as he HAS direct contact with KK.So to all you doubters and negative speaking DO NOT think that we are going to win the PL this year so we go for top 4 and cups. Did you all forget that we got Suarez without the promise of European football and do you really think that LFC was the only one when AJAX offered him higher pay and still being the captain?

No cause all you see is yesterday and tomorrow.

    jamie keep writing #YNWA

  128. totally agree mate.  Too many short-sighted people with a lack of knowledge on here who are scared of upsetting Suarez, and think they know better than KD. Toshack left, Rush left, Fowler left, Owen left etc etc. No one is bigger than the club...  If you want to support Suarez FC then do so..  If you want to support liverpool, then support the club.  This new generation of fans are unrecognisable from the ones I  grew up with in the 70s.  They are hell bent on attacking Kenny,  his philosophy and our players at any opportunity. They put all their energy into starting internal conflicts, and most only got interested in 2005 because of Istanbul. Now we aren't winning in Europe, they've turned on us, but don't want to change team (again) because it's too soon for them to admit they are a glory hunter...

And to those muppets who say it's our duty to be negative if we're not winning every game (they argue that negative criticism should make them up their game!!) just think about it.... WHen you are having a bad day at work, how often does your boss shouting and screaming at you, or customers swearing and insulting you, make you improve your performance??  Answer it doesn't.  Our fans used to be special, now we are like Chelski.   I have never booed at Anfield, even when Woy was in charge.  It's a disgusting thing to even consider doing...   Thing is, 99% of these people NEVER go to see us play, they pay their fiver a month and watch clips on the website and think that gives them the right to attack us.  They are all FIFA 11 experts on the X-box, but don't have a clue about coaching or managing.  They are an embarrassment to  our club and city..  I've supported LFC for 40 years, but I can't even visit LFC's website anymore because the stupid and ignorant comments just make me too angry...
