VIDEO - Liverpool CAN beat Lyon tonight. Just take inspiration from the recent past...

Gerrard out. Johnson out. Aurelio out. Torres half-fit. Several other players doubtful. Two defeats in three CL games. Third in the CL group table. eight defeats since the start of the season. Liverpool have no chance of beating Lyon on their own ground, right? WRONG.

Liverpool thrive on being underdogs and if history has proven one thing about the club it's this: in times of adversity, and when everything looks hopeless, Liverpool can and will triumph.

As a small reminder of Liverpool overcoming the odds, take inspiration from the following fantastic results:

Liverpool v Olympiakos
(December 2004)

Liverpool needed to win by two clear goals to make it through to the knockout stages:

Liverpool v AC Milan (May 2005)

Liverpool were 3-0 down at half time. The game was dead, right?

Barcelona v Liverpool (February 2007)

No one thought Liverpool would come away with a victory at the Nou Camp, but it happened:

Marseille v Liverpool
(December 2007)

Liverpool needed to win in Marseille:

Liverpool v Inter Milan (February 2008)

The pressure was on Rafa prior to this game. A victory was essential:

Real Madrid v Liverpool
(March 2009)

Another vital away victory in the CL:

Some heartening facts:

* Lyon have failed to beat an English club at home in their last 5 attempts (4 draws; 1 defeat).

* Liverpool have won their last 4 away matches in France and five of the last seven against french clubs overall.

As long as Rafa puts out the right team, with aces in their places and no weird formations, Liverpool can and will get a result against Lyon.

Believe :-)

  4. Don't be so pessimistic. We are at our best when all the odds are against us. We can beat anyone on our day including Lyon tonight AND we will.

  5. If benitez felt brave enough to try a youngster like Martin Kelly against lyon, hopefully he will give Aquilani his full debut tonight.God knows we need some creativity in midfield.Lucas and Mash are never goin to play the killer ball in the final third.
Time for the lads to stand up and be counted!
