Nice one, Rio! More of the same now please...

Rio Ferdinand's catastophic mistake against Manchester City last Sunday surely makes a mockery of Sir Alex Ferguson's contention that he is 'the best centre-half in the world'.

Let's marvel at the silky skills of the alleged best defender in the world:

That was almost as good as Nemanja Vidic's calamitous mistake last season when Liverpool annihilated United at Old Trafford:

Ferguson recently claimed that Ferdinand was "The best centre-half in the world by far". By far?! Not on this evidence.

Jamie Carragher has not been in the greatest form this season but I'd still take him over Ferdinand any day of the week.

Here's hoping for more of the same throughout the season.

Go Rio!

  1. To be honest the way carragher is playing this season i'd have wes brown over him. He really is starting to show his age and the sooner agger gets back the better. Wouldn't consign him to the glue factory or anything like that but i don't think he remains the rock around which our defence can be built.

  2. As much as I hate to admit it, I think you're right.  Carra's time as the main man in defence is drawing to a close unfortunately.

  3. A good young pacey centre half is becoming a must get for us.. none of cb's have much pace and as ye stated carra looks past his best, he can do the Sami job of coming in and playing well for lesser games tho. As for the best in the world right now? thats a toughy, theres not many outstanding around.

  4. Sami was playing superbly well when he was Carra's age.  It's only when he got to mid-thirties that he needed to be utilised less often.

  5. As a liverpool fan I hate articles like this.  What's the point in ridiculing the defending of a team above us in the league when there's so many problems with our own defending.  Keep quiet, concentrate on our own team and show your support there.  This sort of article/attitude does nothing but come back to bite us on the ass.

  6. I agree that there are problems with our own defending (I acknowledged this) but it doesn't hurt to point out the deficiencies in our rivals' defending.  Ferdinand and Vidic are not the rocks they appear to be, and are prone to mistakes/can be forced into errors.  This can (and hopefully) will lead to United dropping points.

  7. What does it say at the top of this page?  Critical realism about LFC.  I obviously can't tell you how to run your page but if you want to provide a service to the supporter's you would do well to stick to that.

  8. What's the problem?  I've highlighted two examples of suspect defending from one of our rivals.  I'm allowed to be a little tongue in cheek and fan the (friendly) flames of rivalry.

  10. Carra has had a poor start to the season especially by his own high standards, I am sure he would readily admit that himself. But they are basic mistakes he is making - the kind that can be rectified as easily as they are made. Three years ago people said exactly the same about Sami Hyypia, he was finished etc The same people now I bet were the ones saying we should never have sold him just a month ago. It is far too ealry to say Carra's career is coming to an end, he will put it right and things will be good again.

  12. I believe that the rapid deterioration suffered by carragher may have something to do with his last ditch style of defending. Sami was able to last it out because although he was certainly robust he was more composed and consequently didn't need to throw his body on the line in a reactionary fashion as often. I still think carra has a vital role to play but as much as anything i feel that it will be in nurturing his own replacement. His distribution last night was shocking and the sooner agger gets back the better. Having a defender who can carry the ball out and has a strong range of passing really creates space against teams that defend in rigid lines.

  13. Yeah keep articles to just about liverpool, have you read the peter lorimer article about how liverpool fans clapped and cheared champions to the leeds players after they had drawn against liverpool to beat us to the league. He said this is why we are great fans, being bitter about other teams players is not our way thats something mancs do + i personally believe ferdinand is a good player going to far to say hes the best but he is good. + carra towards end of last season and start of this season has looked dodgy, but i think people who say hes coming to an end are being a little over the top. Anyway back to the fans, to back my point up utd booed tevez the other day even though he would have stayed if fergie hadn't messed around trying to get him on the cheap, granted he went to their rivals but they loved him last year and fergie constantly left him out and made him feel unwanted yet utd fans turn on him when he leaves. yet when Xabi hands in a transfer request we understand benitez made a mistake when he wasnt doing well and tried to let him go for barry. we wish him well and when he returns to anfield 1 day i expect he will get a good reception.

  14. Give over!  What part of my article is 'bitter'?! I think it's obvious there is a lighthearted streak running through it.  Plus, as I said earlier, friendly rivalry/banter/provocation of rival fans is harmless.

  15. Ok maybe bitter is the wrong word, but do we need to bother talkin bout him, specially when a utd fan could quite easily show a few clips of carra this season. If they do don't forget the tottenham utd game where ferdinand turned his back on defoe like a girl!!

  16. I see your point - I guess I should stick to Liverpool but I couldn't resist the opportunity; it was sitting there on a silver platter!  It's all harmless banter at the end of the day.

  17. TORRES!!! What a player... Nice to see that video again, always cheers me up...

  18. Yes - absolutely fantastic player :-)

  19. Rossi - Liverpool fans are not bitter about rival players? It must be just us mancs then.

Will michael Owen be getting a good reception by the 'greatest fans in the world' if he plays for Liverpool...i very much doubt it.

  20. i mean if he plays for utd at anfield

  22. Good job world football turned a blind eye to Ronaldo's penalty misses in the CL semi-final and final just a few months before he was voted the best player in Europe and the world, eh? Who knew one mistake ruled you out of contention of being the best? But TWO mistakes? Ronnie was very lucky, clearly. UEFA and FIFA should have turned to you instead to find a player who hadn't made a single mistake all year because there are loads and loads of players who fall in to that category.

  23. not the first person to say that, and prob won't be the last. you accuse him of this just because he criticises that certain team? well then, by those standards, and looking at his long list of liverpool criticism, jamie must be the koppiest reddest scouser of all time. of. all. time.

seriously though, no one deserves to be called a manc. shame on you.
