VIDEO: Keisuke Honda - good enough for Liverpool FC?

In what must be the most unexpected transfer news of the summer, Japanese international Keisuke Honda has been linked with a move to Liverpool.

I'd never heard of him either! He is a brief lowdown on the player:

* 23 years old
* 5'11
* Currently captain of Eredivisie side VVV-Venlo.
* Ostensibly a midfielder, but can also play at left back.
* 16 goals in 36 league games last season
* Overall: 21 goals in 52 games for VVV
* Has played 6 games for Japan

  2. That's the first time I've seen youtube make a player look average

  4. Why is it such an ordeal to sign in through Blogspot?

I can't see it happening, but he is something we don't have, a dead-ball expert. I don't really count Steven Gerrard, as good as he is.

  5. What problems are you having?

I agree re the dead-ball expert idea - Liverpool don't really have a specialist. I lst count of the number or corners and free kicks wasted last season.

  6. Looks good, scored an absolute thumper the other day against Den Haag. As a sidenote, has Liverpool ever had a Japanese international?

  7. i think he's a good player check on skysports the page he is a on the free or maybe few million so were not taking a major gamble plus his wages so give him a season or 2 and if he looks good well done rafa if not sell him on, so i think

    why not? sign him up,

  8. Looks worth a gamble, we are short of attacking midfielders and he can also play left back. Could be a good addition with alonso gone and aqaulaini & aurelio injured

  9. Would certainly give us another option, and he really can 'thump' a ball. Worth a risk.

  10. Those asian often works hard as fuck, and this guy also scores a lot of goals, so if we can get him for under £5 mill. I say sign him up.

Heard he has scored 3 gls in the first 2 games for newly promoted VVV, impressive stats from a midfielder.

  15. I don't think so... he's not going to produce anything and end up being another 'great white hope' or 'next big thing' (I'm thinking Milan Baros, Craig Bellamy etc.) that amounts to nothing.  Scoring the odd free kick won't be enough to warrant a first team place for a season.  Rafa will waste a few million and end up floggin him for knock down price.

  16. Rafa should buy him because his price is less than 5 millions and his wage is not much. He will have a chance to play Carliing cup and FA cup. Win Win situation.

  17. If Rafa is going to invest in Keisuke Honda then why don't he plump for the Brazilian Hernanes...Honda is one of the rising stars of Asian football but Hernanes is positioned for superstardom!

  18. I can count the amount of times Aurelio has messed up a corner or free kick!!!

  19. It dosn't make sense LFC will sign him. If it happen, LFC will lose a lot of fans from Asia such as China, Korea and etc.

  20. nothing to lose, can't be any worser than some of the other players rafa previously bought, smart move ASIAN market is huge.

  21. What do you mean by "and etc."?

I don't see any problem besides some potential lost opportunities for the knock-off shirts in those two.

  22. Rafa better get his signature before someone else does. Should be fairly easy to please wage wise since he is pretty much an unknown in europe, and if he is on a free or a fairly low amount of money is needed to buy him then I believe at 23, he is would be a very good addition.

  23. Keisuke is the best player we had in the last 10 years in Venlo.
He is even better than PSV attacker Nordin Amrabat, who has also played in Venlo 2 years ago.

  24. I like the look of him; he'd be a breath of fresh air in the team, I'm sure.  Do you think he could handle the physicality and pace of the premiership?

  25. Good left foot, can play right and left. Can be light weighted. Still young. Looks ok in youtube which doesn't mean he's good (everybody looks good in youtube). Playing well in J-league is not a good judge of ones ability in the PL. May not fit PL if in the rotation system.

The last goal was a wonder goal. If the scouts are looking at him, it means he is good enough to attract eyes from Liverpool. However that doesn't mean we're buying him.

  26. ha jamie, i can obviously see this boy has talent from the video, but many players have come from holland with talent and not been able to handle the pace power and overall play of the premiership (prime example Babel). so my main quiery is over whether a lad a 23(which i think is old enough) whohas played most of his football in 2nd division in the netherlands can really come to liverpool and make a difference, but maybe i'm wrong it just seems like a good possibility, also taking into account kuyt was scoring 20-30 goals a season in holland but never really got near that sort of scoring in england, just seems to me like he would be another player to come into the club and be gone within the first 2 years, and more money down the drain

  27. Rafa needs to sign this young man because I beleive he will score in the big games. Good price and only rising. Free kick ability and can play left back

  28. liverpool NEEDS to sign him. he's the BEST player on japan's national team and has so much potential. his ability to shoot from any position makes him such a great player. japanese people would love to see him play in liverpool.

  29. I think that he has shown now that he is ready for something bigger. I'd love to see him come to LFC, he's an amazing talent. Know this is old, but hope we still are watchimg him closely. Maybe he wasn't ready back then, just playing for a mediocre Dutch side, but now he's playing for CSKA, done well there and I think his performance at the World Cup should show that this is a very interesting talented player worth following..not to mention that his freekicks would be an awesome dangerous weapon.. and yeah..I'd love to see how he'd do in the world's best league. In Liverpool.

Greetings from a proud LFC-fan from Sweden!!
