VIDEO: Fernando Torres + Albert Riera goals against Macedonia

With only 3 days until the new season starts, it's good to see Fernando Torres and Albert Riera getting into the swing of things. Both players scored against Macdonia, with Riera grabbing the winning goal for Spain.

Pepe Reina was also in action, and the Liverpool stopper was beaten twice by Goran Pandev, who put Macedonia into a 2-0 lead before Torres and Riera saved the day.

Reina could've done better for bother goals in my view; let's hope the real Pepe Reina returns for Sunday's league game. The best news, however, is that Torres made it through game unscathed. Watch out Spurs!

  1. To be honest, both of those Macedonian goals looked slightly suspect.

  3. After Pandev's 2nd goal i thought they were hugging the linesman, wouldn't have been to suprising after both goals looked abit offside. Great to see Torres come through unscathed from an international for once.

  5. What is really funny its Macedonia's national broadcaster. They replayed both Macedonia's goals, you even can watch them slow motioned... But Spain goals didnt deserve such a courtesy...

    Thaks for video anyway.

  9. Are you drunk? What more could PR have done for the first goal - come tearing out at the players feet and risk injury / red card?

  10. Riera is class... he is so composed and understated. Hope Rafa plays him and Benayoun more. No Kuyt please ( But, knowing Rafa, that's wishful thinking).

  11. wtf?! where were you last season? Kuyt was arguably our best player, Rafa has worked wonders turning him into a right winger

  12. Worked wonders? since when did "wonders" imply huffing and puffing along the length of the pitch and fumbling around with the ball (even his fans are not a fan of his first touch)?

May be I am too hard on him, Kuyt is admittedly a good worker and useful squad member... But I don't see how he is preferred over Benayoun or even Nabi El Zhar for that matter...

  13. You do realise after Ronaldo, kuyt scored more and assisted more then any other right winger in the premier league?! And you dont see how he is preferred over El Zhar? Seriously? and benayoun played last season with kuyt in the first 11. Its all about options - benny's best position being off the striker, him, gerrard and kuyt swap positions all game. Worked wonders, hence us scoring more than other team in the league last season. Throw albert into the mix and its a healthy front line, get babel into some form and it will be a very good attacking 4 with options.

to the OP,how could reina have done better? One on One - what bring him down and get sent off??!? and the other was a superb finish.

  14. I am not sure of the statistics (which can be deceptive), so, I ask you this, will Kuyt make it to the first 11 of any of the other top clubs in BPL or La Liga? clearly not... and he is dreadful to watch (Just look at the way he scored his goal against England in that friendly, any good player wouldn't need so many touches!). That said I'd anyday take Kuyt over that Ronaldo who goes missing in the big games (against us, Barcelona, etc), at least Kuyt plays at his expected level consistently.

I don't want to be so hard on Kuyt, after all he is our player, but he would never be MY first choice winger/striker...

Benny will never play off-the-striker as long as Gerrard is there, and on the left I wouldn't want anyone (let alone Babel) replace Riera... So, the only option left for Benny (in 4-2-3-1) is on the right when Kuyt isn't playing there, and that is not fair for a player of Benny's creativity...

And regarding our healthy frontline - it depends on Gerrard/Torres being fit, Babel finally coming good on his potential, Aquilani regaining fitness and his touted skills/form instantly... too many variables there don't you think? I feel (as do many others I guess) Pachecho and Nemeth ought to be given a chance... Look how good Insua turned out to be...
