Offer Accepted: 'Impressive' €28m powerhouse wanted by Liverpool agrees 5-year transfer; medical expected soon at Roma

Liverpool are currently linked with a summer move for Atalanta midfielder Franck Kessie, but it looks like the Reds have been beaten to the punch on this particular deal.

The Reds have reportedly scouted 'impressive' Kessie 'extensively' this season (including at the AFCON), and his agent confirmed this week Liverpool are 'interested' in signing the 20-year old this summer.

Well, according to Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport:

"Atalanta have accepted a €28m bid from Roma for Franck Kessie, [who will sign] on a five year contract, with the midfielder set to earn €1.4m per season. The two sides are just waiting for signatures and a medical in order to make the deal official".

This news will be disappointing for some Reds fans. I conducted a poll this week asking if Klopp should sign Kessie, and 78% of participants voted YES to the transfer.

In my view, it's a good thing that Liverpool are (seemingly) missing out on this deal. This is Kessie's first season in top-flight football, and there's always a possibility that he'll turn out to be a one season wonder.

At the age of 20, it makes sense for Kessie to stay in the league in which he's established himself; a move to Roma is a step up, but it's a logical progression, rather than a premature jump to one of Europe's biggest teams.

Plus, the older, more experienced RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita is (arguably) a preferable option.
