Agent Confirms: Liverpool submitted one of 'five offers' to sign 'fantastic' €60m 'superstar'

Is 'fantastic' Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane a mercenary who's willing to play for whoever pays him the biggest salary?

This is the narrative advanced by the media this week, including the Daily Mail, which claimed:

"Mane almost became a Spurs player before joining Liverpool, only for club's wage structure to scupper the deal. Daniel Levy needed to be convinced it was worth meeting Mane's wage demands...and that proved impossible".

When asked this week if Mane's alleged 'wage demands' scuppered a move to White Hart Lane, his agent insisted:

“Sadio had 5 offers in the summer and financially all of them were good. We wanted the right team, with the right coach to arrive at the next level. That is the reason Sadio went to Anfield.”

This fits with Mane's own version of events, which he outlined earlier in the season:

"At the end of last season, he [Klopp] called me and told me he wanted me to come to Liverpool. I said straightaway that I want to come. It was the right time and right coach for me".

Mane is reportedly on £125k-a-week at Liverpool, which is significantly more than Spurs' reported £100k-a-week salary cap. As such, whatever the truth, it's fair to say than Mane is did better financially by signing for Liverpool. Whether that's the reason for the move to Anfield is open to debate...
