'Liverpool Came In': €49m 'superstar' confirms he 'wanted to join' LFC despite strong interest from Man Utd

Earlier this week, Sadio Mane revealed that Jurgen Klopp previously tried to sign him for BVB, and Mane has now confirmed that he rejected a move to Liverpool's biggest rivals.

Speaking to The Telegraph this weekend, Mane admitted:

“[Man Utd] were interested [but] it was only when Liverpool came in that I knew I wanted to join. I finally came to Liverpool, and now I’m happy I'm playing against Man Utd" .

Mane further outlined his reasons for rejecting Man Utd:

"I was convinced I still had to improve more and learn more before I moved to a bigger club. The extra year helped me get better, and it is important for every player to go step by step".

An admirable stance, but I suspect that Mane would've signed for Man Utd last summer if Jose Mourinho - and not Louis Van Gaal - had been in charge.

Under Van Gaal, Man Utd were an unappealing prospect, but Mourinho is a massive draw for players, and that could've been a deciding factor.
