I Want LFC: 'Impressive' attacker reveals 'conversations' with Liverpool; confirms he wants Anfield 'stay'

After four years at Anfield, Joao Carlos Teixeira has made just FOUR first team appearances for Liverpool, and no matter how well he performs, the 'impressive' Portuguese attacker is routinely overlook for a regular first-team place. Despite this, Teixeira continues sick his head in the sand and hope for the best, and in his latest interview, the 23-year old reveals the depths of his self-delusion.

Teixeira's current contract expires at the end of the season, and when asked about his future recently, he he told the Liverpool Echo:

“We are in conversations at the moment. I want to stay. I just have to keep working hard and keep doing my best in training. Whenever chances come along to impress Jurgen Klopp, it’s up to me to show him that I deserve more chances.”

Teixeira has a fantastic attitude, and no matter how many times he's overlooked or downright snubbed, he just gets on with it and vows to work hard and prove himself to the manager.

That is admirable, but the facts are stark:

* 3 starts/1 sub appearance in FOUR YEARS, but never started a game in the Premier League.

* 278 minutes of football overall, which equates to a pitiful (and disrespectful) 69 minutes of game time PER YEAR.

* Repeatedly snubbed for Premier League games, yet lots of players younger and less experienced have been granted game time.

* Last season, Teixeira won TWO 'Player of the Year' awards, and he's currently the Academy's reigning POTY, yet he still barely features.

* In the entire history of Liverpool FC, no foreign attacker has ever come through the academy/youth system to become a first-team regular.

Teixeira is 23; if he hasn't broken through by now, he never will. Signing a new contract is a total waste of time as he'll just end up warming the bench for another few years, with the occasional carrot of domestic cup appearances.

I'm a big fan of Texeira, but if he has any ambition whatsoever, he should quit Liverpool this summer and try and forge career at a different club, where his ability is appreciated.
