Liverpool are currently linked with a move for 'frightening' Southampton striker Shane Long, who is proving to be a particularly polarisg transfer target amongst fans, and ex-Reds. Phil Thompson, and Danny Murphy are totally against the signing, but Dietmar Hamann has now joined Steve Nicol in supporting the transfer.
Southampton have reportedly rejected Liverpool's bid for Long (who will reportedly cost £12m) and when asked on Monday about the potential transfer, Hamann enthused:
"I like him [Long], and I think he would be a good signing. The team lacks bite up front since Suarez left. Liverpool have enough so-called class players who flatter to deceive. Got to learn to grind out results. Long is a perfect fit".
Danny Murphy: "Shane Long? Really?! No, no, no. There’s no point bringing in players who aren’t better than what you’ve already got. Is he better than Benteke? I'd argue not".
Steve Nicol: “They [Liverpool] spent £16m on Balotelli but I would prefer someone like Shane Long. He might not have the same ability, but the fans will love him, [and] he'll give you everything".
Phil Thompson: “Shane Long has had really good spells this year but I think he’s inconsistent as a goalscorer” .
