Transfer Update: Klopp responds to €7m done deal rumours; confirms Liverpool 'will' sign players if necessary

The transfer window opens in just over a week, but what are the chances of Liverpool signing any new players in January?

When asked about transfers during his pre-match press conference, Klopp insisted that there's 'nothing to say' about the proposed €7m Marko Grucic transfer, and offered the following update on the club's transfer plans:

"This window is not the easiest. There are big prices on the market, and I'm not the biggest fan of this window. Maybe a player will leave us, or there are more injuries. If we have to [sign someone], we will react".

After four games without a win, and an ever-expanding injury list (senior players like Lallana, Firmino, and Benteke failing to consistently contribute), it's clear that Klopp needs to do something in January to stop the rot.

It's a giant mistake to rely on Lallana et al to do the business, and if Klopp continues to show faith in these underperforming players, then it'll be his funeral.

In any event, it's nonsense to suggest that it's hard to sign good, reasonably-priced players in January. Liverpool signed Sturridge, Coutinho, and Suarez during a January transfer window, and those three are the Reds' best signings over the last five years.

That said, if Klopp decides to stick with his current squad, then he surely has to start giving some of the club's young players more of a consistent chance.

The likes of Teixeira, Chirivella, Kent, Canos, and Smith should (IMO) be allowed to challenge for places, and if they perform better than some of Liverpool's expensive, overpaid stars, then keep them in the team.

After all, it's not as if they can do any worse, is it...?
