The Chosen One: 'Klopp' wants to sign exciting €15m attacker. Liverpool 'offer' made over the summer [Fjortoft]

Over the summer, Liverpool reportedly made a €15m bod for Schalke attacker Leroy Sane, and according to Norway legend Jan Aage Fjortoft - a football analyst for Sky Sports Germany - Sane is likely to be one of Jurgen Klopp's first signings for the club.

In September, The Mirror reported:

"Liverpool are tracking Leroy Sane, despite having seen a summer bid rejected".

Over the weekend, Fjortoft tweeted:

"I expect Liverpool and Klopp to go "big time" for Schalke-striker Leroy Sane".

Speaking Sport Bild in September, Schalke’s director of sport, Horst Heldt, confirmed Liverpool’s interest in Sane:

“There are already one or two big-name clubs who have expressed interest. Liverpool were ready to pay for him. The offer didn’t interest us or the player".

Some info about Sane:

* Left winger, who can also play on the right, or as a central attacking midfielder.

* Current contract expires in 2019.

* 40 goals/assists in 70 games for various Schalke youth teams.

* 14 goals/assists in 33 games for Schalke's senior team.

* This season: 9 goals/assists in 18 games.

* Mar 2015: When asked about areas for improvement, Sane told reporters: "I need to win more tackles, improve a bit physically and show more strength. These things are more necessary in the Bundesliga.”

* 2015: Helped Schalke win the Under-19 German league title.

* Schalke coach Andre Breitenreiter's assessment: "From the potential he is showing, Leroy has a big career ahead of him and is on the right path".

If Liverpool made a €15m bid, then the club is obviously pretty serious about signing Sane. However, Schalke recently sold Julian Draxler for a whopping €36m, so it's hardly surprising the German club rejected such a comparatively meagre offer.

I really don't see the point of signing Sane when Liverpool have the likes of Ojo, Canos, Kent, Teixeira et al on the fringes of the first-team squad. Liverpool could've saved £20m on Lazar Markovic by just promoting from within, so why spend big bucks on more teenagers when there are lots of talented academy players bursting for a chance?

Anfield is a graveyard for young, foreign attacking talent (just ask Markovic), and Sane would have to be insane to sign for the Reds right now, even under Jurgen Klopp.
